@@liam_a_daniel ya, I’m still leaning xh2s cuz rolling shutter matters a lot to me beyond whip pans. A low read out speed is why the Alexa feels so much like film so lower is always looking better even for static shots.

Great move from sony! For my line of work, i'll probably get 2 of them instead of buying a FX3 ( i have a A7s3, Fs7 ang GH5S). I often find it a slight problem matching those camera's (Multicam ITV or aftermovie), with cinematch, i get a sweet result but find it restrictive when it comes to make a bit of a creative look . Got also a few clients who doesn't have the time to match camera's..
The heavy 120 fps crop is a real bummer. But it seems most of these new releases share the same issue, or go straight into HD. What do you think, is it a technical obstacle or marketing decision?
yeah it's really annoying, was so hyped to upgrade to this camera from my A6500 and was hoping for proper 4k 120p in it... still pre-ordered it but yeah...
Any news about LANC protocol support in the FX30? Its a shame, that the FX3 and now the FX30 do not come with a 2.5mm remote port (or an adapter to add one over USB - Like its the case with the new timecode adapter they added to the FX3 to get the Netflix approval). The "smallest" camera in the actual FX lineup is the FX6 to support LANC. And i doubt, that they will release an FS5 successor in the future (with the FX30 being out now) ...
They both support control over the multi interface microUSB port. It's not technically LANC, but a lot of remotes designed for Sony have cables for both 2.5mm LANC and multi interface.
@@TechnoBabble Problem is: It looks like you can change some aspects (like speed / max speed) in the menu to limit and adjust the standard remotes and remote control app controls. BUT: With the USB remotes I had til now the experience, that they often either only support one speed or max. two speed steps to control the zoom. So no "stepless" control like with classical LANC controllers with a thumb lever. Possibly its a limit due to the USB controls / protocol. That actual solution is better than having nothing - Sure. But I still hope for an adapter from classic 2.5mm LANC to USB for the FX3 and FX30 (would make a ton of sense and the would make the FX30 sell even more like hot cakes ^^). LG

Does anyone know if it outputs via the HDMI with LUT applied when filming in LOG? For my streaming setups, I would like to do this to match camera and record LOG file for future post work.

DoF will appear to be ~f/6. Exposure will be f/4. Exposure (light per square unit) stays the same for a given f/stop assuming perfect transmission, regardless of sensor size. Of course, the larger the sensor, the more photons i.e. data is captured, hence better quality.
On catalyst browse; do I have to record without any stabilisation to do this magic in post? That would be, a shame:D But when I can put it on top of my standard stabilisation (the active mode is to space warpy for my taste) this would be fine! And guys, damn, you are making great videos! I was hoping for such an indepth review by Gerald Undone, literally, your quality is .. top notch.
So glad I found this very informative channel. You have to laugh though at the price increasing almost in real time as the value of sterling collapses :(
if it records raw or prores 4444 internally, then 6k to 4k downsampled footage would be a thing to consider. but in 240 to 600mbps h.264 recording? with sacrificing low light performance and rolling shutter? no thanks.
Do you even hear yourself? Look at the price of the camera, why are you talking about ProRes 4444? XAVC S-I (all-intra H.264) and XAVC HS (H.265) are perfectly fine and plenty for this camera, considering they're the same formats used in the FS7, FX9, F5, and F55.
@@TechnoBabble you don't know downsampling and h.264 known issues. the downsampling only affects overall image quality when final footage has enough bitrate to store all of the details in subpixel level. if it doesn't, downsampling means almost nothing. you may have seen the truth already in a7m3.
Great deep dive review, thanks! I defintely want one. I've been shooting with the old Sony VG20 e mount video cam and want to move into the modern world. Looks like this is it for me. Now I just have to raid the piggy bank! ;-)
Probably more for broadcast? The codecs and framerates are very specific for broadcast playback depending on each studio/vendor, or even file management systems. E.g. I can't even upload 24P or 30P because the option doesn't exist on the cloud management system. It has to be 23.976, 25 or 29.97.
@@CVPTV thx, allready wached it. i mean more precise. more deep. because they very close in several ways. aps-c, autofocus, storage. gh6 is micro43m, bmpc6k is no autofocus and more for serious filmmaking.
I haven't use a cine-camera (or recent sensor), but one of the concern I have that isn't adressed anywhere I look is this : considering that the lower base ISO isn't the best for dynamic range (and noise) and that it is pretty high (800), if you want to shoot lenses wide open (f2.0 or less), isn't having no internal NDs a big big downside? Especially if you don't shoot log?
1. Why do you think that lower base ISO isn’t the best for DR and noise? That’s not how it works 2. Lower base ISO is 800 only for SLog3, if you don’t shoot log and shoot S-Cinetone for example it’s 100 3. Currently there is no tech (and maybe never will?) that allows both internal NDs and IBIS, Sony went with IBIS for all their lower budget video oriented cameras like A7s III, FX3 and FX30
ISO800 is not high for a low native ISO in a logarithmic gamma profile. The Sony FS5, FS7, and F5 all have a native ISO in S-Log3 of 2000 and the Arri Alexa's is also 800. The majority of the time the native ISO is the setting at which you get the best dynamic range.
If i understood correctly, it has about 1 Stop less Dynamic Range? This is a reaaaal bummer. Why are there so few People talking about this? Yes also the Rolling Shutter. This seems like less of a good upgrade coming from a A6300 than BMPCC 6k (which i don't like the Formfactor of) or FX6, which is so much faster to Use in my opinion. Although my A6300 is quite fast to work with as well.
To all the people complaining about rolling shutter: did we just forget that before this latest generation of cameras almost every camera had soft line-skipped video, cropped in to record 4k, had terrible rolling shutter, or used a tiny sensor? There was literally not a single hybrid camera that was genuinely "good" at video compared to cinema cameras or even mid range camcorders... Now we have an $1800 camera shooting oversampled 4k60 10-bit 4:2:2 with 15ms of rolling shutter and everyone is complaining.
There’s been a software update that allows you to trigger the video record with the shutter button. Helps with the awkward record button placement. Excellent review. Made me switch from a BMPCC4K to this for run & gun work. Even bought it from CVP.

DoF will appear to be ~f/6. Exposure will be f/4. Exposure (light per square unit) stays the same for a given f/stop assuming perfect transmission, regardless of sensor size. Of course, the larger the sensor, the more photons i.e. data is captured, hence better quality.
Hi, did you de-noise the footage at 4k 120p?
No denoising was applied. Jake
On catalyst browse; do I have to record without any stabilisation to do this magic in post? That would be, a shame:D But when I can put it on top of my standard stabilisation (the active mode is to space warpy for my taste) this would be fine!
And guys, damn, you are making great videos! I was hoping for such an indepth review by Gerald Undone, literally, your quality is .. top notch.
all current FX3 cages are compatible for FX30?
Yes FX3 cages will work with FX30. Jake
I'm so confident, yeah, I'm unstoppable today
Sony Fx30 manual: The Movie. Thank you for this
So glad I found this very informative channel. You have to laugh though at the price increasing almost in real time as the value of sterling collapses :(
What Sony stereo microphone did you use on this shoot?
ECM-MS2, but for the interview we used the Sennheiser MKE-600 boomed above them. Jake
@@CVPTV thanks for the heads up. Looking for a short on camera mic.
Shotguns I have
Does it have clear image zoom?
Yes, Jake
I thought it would have much better rolling shutter than the A7IV :/ It's an amazing camera especially for the price but it's weird
FX3 have global shutter ?
No it’s rolling. Jake
@@CVPTV thank you jake
Your voice is so soothing
informative 30 mins on FX30 (Sony)
if it records raw or prores 4444 internally, then 6k to 4k downsampled footage would be a thing to consider. but in 240 to 600mbps h.264 recording? with sacrificing low light performance and rolling shutter?
Comprehensive informative video….fantastic details
Thanks for watching! Jake
gotta hit those sharps 18:36
Wow what a great detailled review. The FX30 is great S35 / APSC option. I only wish sony would finally implement false colors
Great deep dive review, thanks! I defintely want one. I've been shooting with the old Sony VG20 e mount video cam and want to move into the modern world. Looks like this is it for me. Now I just have to raid the piggy bank! ;-)
Great detailed review as always!
Thanks for watching! Jake
I wonder if there's any chance of getting external 6k raw out of this with future firmware.
probably not but we can dream.
Thanks for the review, as always the most detailed on RUclips !
Genuine question, why are you asking for 23.98 FPS and what difference between 24FPS ?
Probably more for broadcast? The codecs and framerates are very specific for broadcast playback depending on each studio/vendor, or even file management systems. E.g. I can't even upload 24P or 30P because the option doesn't exist on the cloud management system. It has to be 23.976, 25 or 29.97.
@@professionalpotato4764 thanks, seems logical now 😊
How's it going? Did you learn how to use it?
need a fx30 vs h2s comparison
Here you go! :) ruclips.net/video/y-H3EG4688s/видео.html
That’s not how it works
2. Lower base ISO is 800 only for SLog3, if you don’t shoot log and shoot S-Cinetone for example it’s 100
Affordable fx6 B-cam 🔥🔥🔥
If i understood correctly, it has about 1 Stop less Dynamic Range? This is a reaaaal bummer. Why are there so few People talking about this? Yes also the Rolling Shutter. This seems like less of a good upgrade coming from a A6300 than BMPCC 6k (which i don't like the Formfactor of) or FX6, which is so much faster to Use in my opinion. Although my A6300 is quite fast to work with as well.
Okay I need a firmware on my A7siii now pls Sony!
Why would you get this over A7IV ?
We are making a video to explain exactly why! Jake
4k 120 is nice but I really want a full frame so I'll get the A7IV
Even bought it from CVP.
wow... Sony did it again. Preordering this.
