Very true. My father has spent a total of about 20 years all around, and he hated the "scared straight" program. Says he refused to run and yell at a bunch of kids, and it probably made more sense to just tell them the reality of what goes on if you wanna keep on being a "badass".
I disagree. Have you seen some of the kids on that show? They would not care about this video. It would come in one ear and out the other. They actually need to SEE what it’s like in prison.

Later, I asked why and was told that I always treated them with respect and treated them fairly in medical, making sure they got treated, saw a Dr, got their meds on time, etc. It touched me. I only thought I was treating them fairly and respectfully like I did everyone else. Nobody ever tried to get me to get anything special or pull any funny stuff. Maybe it was because I was

@@LarryLawtonJewelThief what would u say to a guy that's new to prison and he is not built for that kind of life, normal guys like me or any other average guy would get punked for sure. Also,if u fight a guy for badmouthing u,don't he gang up with his friends on u? Not everyone is 6.4 tall so how would an average guy survive with experienced criminals?
Emilio Pena You’re thinking of the difference between robbery and burglary. By definition, a thief is someone who takes things without force or violence.
So just to be clear, look at people, don’t look at people, befriend the right people and the wrong people, eat in one place but don’t eat in the same place, and never not give a guy his soup
Kinda ironic, that its usually people who don't really care much for rules, who end up in jail, then there are so many rules to abide to once they are in there.
People have reasons for what they do - if that reason isn't around you then you're okay. Psychopaths are always dangerous because of this, while most people only want to maintain their safety, dignity, and sometimes power (the 'callers'). When I was in the murderers were considered most dangerous because they don't get any more time for killing you, too - but if you keep killing people you WILL fall. The most dangerous moment was when a guy 100 pounds more than me and a cop killer wanted to go through my mates items and I told him I wouldn't allow it - "go through mine" - respect was earned that day and, happy to say, I am still alive.
@эмиль к. If you haven't done anything yet, then please do not. My experience in the pen was that I had my days mapped out in front of me and the people who _really_ suffered daily were my family. I believe that post-soviet countries have tougher systems than we do, but I will repeat what I said above - only watch out for the psychopaths; after that, just do not piss anyone off. If you show respect you greatly reduce your chances of being a mark. It will be a tough decision where to "draw the line" when someone fails to respect you. Most people - in prison too - don't want to fight over nothing. You will certainly meet up with someone who will test you wherever you are, and if it is in prison then people are watching MUCH more than you know. Dont leave your loved ones because you got angry. If you were here I could suggest resources to help, perhaps there are some there. I mean help you to manage your anger. Peace
@Western Dragon probably. The question is, where's that point? For some people, that point is when you murder their family. For others, that point is when you accidentally cut them off in traffic. Not all points are created equal!
Me someone who has never been to jail or prison: "I smashed his face into a concrete wall." Oh. "I watched a man get killed for sitting in the wrong section." 0_0 "If you don't pay him, you're gonna get stabbed." Jesus! "Put a shank right in his chest, and went back to bed!" *cries in fear* "You'll see a lot of things on a yard..." Oh gosh... "...dudes sharpening shanks..." Okay, not terrible. "...drug deals..." To be expected, I guess. "...punks getting fucked in the corner..." *Yo man, WTF?!*
Step 1-find the biggest shot caller Step 2- take his seat and refuse to give it up(spit in his face for good measure) Step 3- you are no longer in prison... welcome to the afterlife
LOL Yeah, I know right? In movies and on TV and stuff, there's always that prisoner who tells the story of how when he got locked up, he looked for the biggest, toughest, meanest looking guy there and slapped him in the face to pick a fight with him. I've never been to jail a day in my life, but that always struck me as pretty awful advice...unless of course, you WANT to be beaten into a meaty pulp or killed outright.
@Jacob Stephany who you gonna brag to Lmao your cousins or someone else in the family?? Haha I can see it just now " hello everybody! Wanted to let you fellows know that I have been watching Larry since half a million subs. I'm pretty cool because of that. Do you agree?" Lol
Had to spend the night in county once, and while waiting to see the Judge, the guy next to me could see I was nervous and kindly talked me through the process. Super nice guy. A few days later I see him on the news, a super-max prisoner suing the state, who had been convicted of killing his and his girlfriends family with an axe. No more underage drinking for me.
Just shows not all criminals are 'bad people' (murder is usually a crime of passion after all), not to mention the fact there are plenty of law-abiding citizens who aren't 'good people.'
@Jeff Bridger read Rafael's post, he nails it - it's not defending a murderer at all, just that people can be driven to do almost anything if pushed far enough.
@Jeff Bridger did I say at any point that murder could ever be justified? I'm just saying that those who would otherwise be seen as 'good people' are capable of it, and likewise that 'bad people' may never commit a violent crime in their life but still be horrible.
I learned at a very young age , being told without having to be told, if you go on the wrong side of law 'you be honest'. That bit of advise has probably kept me out of prison these many years. Edit, the other piece of life advise is , 'if the cops catch you, don't say a thing and call us."
This is the dumbest s*** I think I've ever seen on RUclips. I did a year & a day. and I did it without ever smashing anybody's face against thematter fact I only seen very few fights the whole time I was there. this guy seems to hype it up to be something that it is not, perhaps you've watched too many prison movies sir. I did my time On the Huntsville Ellis unit. I got out and I didn't go back. Simple no prison mentality, it was just a chapter of my life I put behind me. Maybe this cat needs to do the same thing. MoveOn man move on. And with that I'm out of here... Damn RUclips suggested videos..
It feels good knowing that there's an intelligent, reformed ex-inmate who's making a decent living through creating content, which probably is pretty therapeutic, too. There're so many people who went through the system that end up being so miserable trying to re-adjust to a life in a society; it's good to see another one "not bite the dust".
Yeah I didn't do much time. Less than a year after credit from county and good time. But my inner conviction from 30 years of being an addict and living in the shadows also makes it a struggle at times to adapt. Don't get me wrong I'm doing well for myself. In just 3 years went from being a homeless heroin addict with legal issues to now having an apartment, truck, good people in my corner, just started my own little painting business. Plenty of work and at that point where I may be able to give out a job to someone. Hoping to even buy my first home by this time next year... But yeah I do struggle with social anxieties and feelings of awkwardness. Not always some times are better than others but it's not fun when I do.
As a 16 year correctional officer in a state penitentiary, Larry has good wisdom to share. He wraps it well with the advice, "I don't want you to go to prison. . . " That is the best advice.
24 years here , 16 months to go until I retire . Another rule , as much as you might hate the COs , don't fuk with them they might just save your life someday .
It sounds like prisons are circuses run by clowns on purpose so that the weakest prisoners who made silly mistakes like auto theft are dominated or killed off by the ones who are there for quadruple homicide. If I had to go to prison for any length of time, I'd rather be locked up by myself in an 10 x 10 cell 24/7/365 as long as I had a toilet, shower, and sink in the corner. It's cute how you say "If you don't want to go to prison". With over 70,000 pages of laws at the Federal level and over 150,000 pages if you include State and Local laws, how do you expect anyone to NOT go to prison these days. A few years ago, a man was sentenced to 8 years 1 month in prison because the business he owned for 30 years shipped lobster tails in the wrong box. Another man was sentenced to 2 years in prison because he added fruit flavoring to vodka and served it in a bar that he owned. Another couple almost got 30 years in prison for clearing a flooded log jamb from their property. With laws like these, I'm surprised everyone in the USA isn't in prison right now. A while ago, I hurt my back and I was prescribed some prescription anti-inflammatory drugs. I got over it, but still had some pills left. About 2 or 3 years later, my Aunt was knocked down by a horse and he stepped on her chest and broke her ribs, but couldn't see a doctor until the next day. My mother called me up because she thought I had some pain pills and asked me if I had any left. If I gave my mother a prescription pain pill to give to my Aunt, and a cop found out about it, all 3 of us could have been sentenced to multiple years or decades in prison for drug trafficking. 1 out of 3 American adults has a criminal record. 1 out of 10 has a felony record. Every year the prison system lets out 650,000 prisoners so they have room for 650,000 more people coming in. America is a police state and it's not going to last for much longer.
@@karozans Life is so crazy when you just think about the numbers. Do an extra 15 minutes at work twice a week unpaid and you're giving them an entire day of your life for free at the end of the year.

"Prison system pit races against each other so they don't have them team up against the guards". Sounds like a great analogy for life outside of prison too and the media.
@@ingwarostapenko6874 It's because that are our basic instincts. However if you are able to put some rationality and humanity on top, things start to change.
Every system outside of the prison is a prison system. The have the same foam beds in nurses offices in schools as they do in jails and prisons. America is a prison system. Exactly what System of a Down sung in "Prison Song."
10 years 6 months and 1 day in VA DOC race relations were fine no racial tensions and co's did not pit one another against each other. Hate to admit it but VA does a pretty good job when it comes to corrections, lots of courses, job training and groups. Number 1 rule "mind your own f'ing business" number 2 do your own time. Remember these 2 rules you'll be fine.
You don't reach over the table at all. You point and ask for them to pass whatever it is. You keep your hands next to you. Lmao I hate that I know that.
NealCassady he’s sharing stories and many of these stories help to shed light on what prison is like and what some people have to do when they’re inside to survive. Bringing awareness of the ugly side of prison is important to reforming it into something that doesn’t dehumanize and not rehabilitate people
Thanks for your valuable advice Larry. Your keen and intelligent observations are bound to help many an inmate (or person that still needs to serve a sentence) to survive without having to have to learn through their own experience (for which they might not have the time for learning).
Here's an unwritten rule: NEVER look in anyone else's cell. Whether your passing by it or even having a conversation with one of its occupants. Keep your eyes to yourself.

With the current rage and stress over the election, anyone can end up in prison. Politicians don’t care who gets hurt if they are able to succeed in winning or keeping their position. I’ve never seen such in your face corruption my entire life. I know it has always existed, but not with the boldness that exists now. Stay away from protests of all kinds, and don’t talk politics. Exactly what the globalists have been doing in the US this year, but it is so shallow, anyone with a logical mind can see it is a manufactured racial issue. If it was truly race oriented, the rioters in the BLM groups wouldn’t have a majority of white people out of control. Globalists want to weaken us, then control us.
Jim Eginoire Tbf we as humans are designed and evolved to form social groups. It really doesn’t matter what it is. Race is just the most evident and easiest group to form as it not only involves appearance but also culture. But we also form groups around hobbies, wealth class, political opinion, and etc. Groupism, what I call the overarching theme of racism, is inevitable. We will form groups over any perceived differenced bc we as humans have a strong tendency to become part of something larger and to represent that and defend that.

Peace
@эмиль к. best wishes. Seriously.
@Western Dragon probably. The question is, where's that point?
For some people, that point is when you murder their family.
For others, that point is when you accidentally cut them off in traffic.
Not all points are created equal!

@@jase_llan No, it demonstrates the complexity of the human person who can tend to be caring and gentle to a sadistic murderer.

As a 16 year correctional officer in a state penitentiary, Larry has good wisdom to share. He wraps it well with the advice, "I don't want you to go to prison. . . " That is the best advice.
I agree I worked in jails and prisons for over 20 years. “ I don’t want you to go prison “ best advice ever.

We will form groups over any perceived differenced bc we as humans have a strong tendency to become part of something larger and to represent that and defend that.

So true... idiots in the poor and middle class eating it up while those in power laugh and continue to exploit
@ Great usage of the word "idiot". I find it is overused but in this sentence it is more than appropriate.
Exactly, if only everyone would wake the fuck up
No....… That's because different groups create tension naturally. The government obviously doesn't want to keep the country unstable.
I think racial tension is unavoidable in that kind of setting. Racial tension exists, and will continue to exist. I believe “the elites” know that races naturally divide themselves.

I love binging these videos
My hubby spent 6 years in the pen he said it's just like housing cattle in cages, their is little humanity, lots of guards are criminals and exploit the system and the prisoners. He said their is NEVER A silent moment and constant screaming day and night
Pretty much, and the biggest source of drugs was guards
what did he expect? your storing all societies trash in one spot its gonna stink. Complaining about prison sucking sounds pretty immature to begin with. its meant to be a punishment...your not supposed to want to be there. that shold be obvious lol. Not sure what he did but hopefully he grew up and learned from his mistakes. Id be curios to no if you were with him before, during or after being a criminal. I know for some woman guys that are bad people can be a low key turn on....like hes a bad boy so he can protect me or hes a bad boy and ill be the one to change him or something.
@@jhartigan82 not every body is guilty. I spent almost 2 years in on remand, charged with armed robbery, kidnapping and forcible confinement. I couldn't get bail because of the offence. Finally got to court, the guy who was the victim walked in, took one look at me and said that I was 100% not the guy. And because it was in Canada, I can't even sue, I was merely given all my belongings, a pillow case to put them in, and I borrowed bus fare.
Josh Hartigan Can’t wait to see you in the pen one day
Did their victims scream, too? I don't really care about criminals.
Great channel, watched a couple of your videos and subscribed.
I've never been to prison, i came very close in my late teens but got a decent solicitor (lawyer) and a great barrister who got me a fine, an electronic tag and a lot of community service. That experience and the thought of prison put me on the straight and narrow.

It's been 21 years since I've been to prison. This video gave me chills. Especially the bit about feeling the thick tension in the air and the difference between when folk are wearing flip flops or prison issued boots. I originally thought this was going to be one of those bs videos but you're spot on.

Me: *Steals a snickers bar from 7/11*
Also me: sitting at home terrified the feds are going to bust down my door watching Larry Lawton in preparation for federal prison
If you want to go to federal prison, you better steal more than a snickers bar. We're talking Wall Street white-collar crime.
EDIT: To clarify, I'm not suggesting you should steal anything. However, if you're going to go to prison, you might as well make it worth your while.

Hey Larry, I really enjoy watching your shows as they are very informative and factual. You bring to us the unedited and down to earth realities of prison life. I have learned many interesting facts after viewing your videos. Larry, the people of this country need to know the truth about what is really happening inside our prisons. as it will eventually affect them when the person is released. Thank you very much for all your hard work. Take care bro, Jimmy.
I don't always believe in "second chances" because somebody really don't deserve one.
You look like a good person who caught his second chance and used it to spread awareness.
You are a good man

So pretty much you can get stabbed.
