From one Larry to another, I love you . You dropped alot of valuable insight. But, we don't need camera/mail-in/automated ticketing systems. That's makin' it too easy. Yeah, I made it look easy, because I always got that jab workin'. But, trust, that I put in alot of hard work, to make it look easy, not to lay the foundation for robot fighters. We don't need an electronic solution, we need to tighten up, and, of course, get that jab workin'. Big respect to you, brother Larry.

Larry, about 35 years ago, I was coming home from a friends house at about 3am. I had a terrible stomach ache, and I wanted to get home befire my intestines exploded. I was about 4 blocks from my house and I came up to a stop sign where there was absolutely no traffic on the cross road. I slowed down and looked both ways to make sure there was nobody coming and slowed down to almost being stopped and then proceeded. About a half a block later an unmarked car parked on the side of the road lit me up and pulled me over. I explained my situation and asked the officer to follow me home and I had a bathroom right inside my front door. I even told hime to come in the house and I would leave the bathroom door so he could watch me (for his safety) and give me the ticket after I had done my business. He refused and made me wait (and took his sweet old time), and the enevitible happened. He then accused me of doing it on purpose. I decided to fight this in court. When the judge called the case, I asked to approach the bench and asked the judge to hear this in chambers because of the circumstances, and he agreed. We went into chambers, and I explained the situation to the judge. He asked the officer if all that was true and the officer said it was. The judge chastised the officer and dismissed the charges. The officer was not very happy about it. About two years later, I was listening to the police dispatch channel (at the time I was a volunteer with the Office of Emergency Management) and I heard this officer's distinctive voice. He was at the local diner and was talking to one of the waitresses and didn't know his microphone was on. He was trying to impress her by telling her that he could run the town and the department much better than the mayor and the chief. He also said that the chief only had his job because he (I'll try to say it nice here) serviced the mayor's male genitalia. This went on for about 15 minutes right over the town's police duspatch channel until the chief came into the diner and said "So, I only have my job because I s$%k the mayor's #@ck?" That's when the radio went dead. Needless to say, he is no longer on the job. I love it when what goes around comes around. 😌

It's funny, I had a 1997 Saab that told me when a headlight or brake light was out right on the display screen. I've had three or four cars since that one and none of them had that feature. The conspiracy side of me wonders if police unions have a hand in preventing that feature from being included in more cars.

"Support the good cops, report the bad cops." The importance of this cannot be overstated. Good cops are good for the community, good for the police department, and good for society's peace of mind. They deserve our support, and we need more of them. Bad cops are bad news for everyone.
If a person is professional, knowledgeable, and helpful I am going to send a letter, email whether it be about a, electrician, teacher, roofer, plumber or Cop .
Most of the "good cops" are not that good. They turn their heads away from the corruption and other bshit. A lot of cops are just professional bullies.
Soon as you said license plate light, man a bunch of memories flooded back. When I was growing up the cops who patrolled my neighborhood were incredibly racist. They hated my guts, being the only one of my skin color in the hood. I can't even count how many times I got pulled over for a "license plate light". Unfortunately these were the days before cell phones had video and internet. My favorite one of all of them was when he pulled me over in the middle of the day. It went EXACTLY like this, and believe me, I know it sounds ludicrous: "I stopped you because your rolled through that stop sign" "That's a traffic light, sir, and it was green" "Oh......... you weren't wearing your seatbelt." "Sir, I'm still currently wearing it." "Well, your registration is expired" "Sir, that says August of this year. It's June." "My mistake. Your windshield is dirty so I couldn't read it well. But you also have a license plate light out." "Officer. It's broad daylight." "I smell marijuana. Step out of the vehicle." At this point I'd get slammed, and I mean SLAMMED to the hood of my car. Searched, cuffed and thrown in the back of the patrol car while they tossed my vehicle. They'd pull me over and search me every single week, never once finding anything, until finally I got the right internal affairs investigator to take my complaints seriously. One of the cops went to jail on assault and corruption charges, I also sued him in civil court and won....the other officer was fired from the force. The moral of that story: Always fight the cops in the courtroom, never on the street.
“It went EXACTLY like this, and believe me, I know it sounds ludicrous” Not saying you’re lying... but 95% of the time when people begin their story like that they’re lying.

One good tip you didn't mention is to turn on your interior lights, at night, to show the cop that you're not hiding anything and give them visibility on your hands.
I do that too. Also when I got pulled over when my car had an actual key, I'd throw the keys on the dash above the steering wheel so the cop would see the keys and see that I'm not planning on running.
I was just gonna say this. I've heard too many stories of cops pulling out their guns because they thought someone was armed... Just turn on your lights and put your hands on the wheel so they can see you're unarmed. They're gonna grab their flashlight anyway and look around the car, backseat, whatever, so might as well just turn em on

@Larry Lawton Yes please, continue to spread your philosophical ideas and practical knowledge. You are a metaphorical gold mine of info as a human ^^ Difference between humans and animals? It's CULTURE. Culture is literally the act of listening the older and wiser people of the group to learn thru them without having to do the same mistakes they did and be a better person by transmitting this knowledge and educating the youngster as your turn come.
Also military personnel. You encounter them less in first world countries but others are not so fortunate. Blows my mind that we've used drones to blow up schools in other countries.
Popular saying but also extremely false. Unless you assaulted a cop, committed a heist, or obviously murdered someone or something it’s not that hard to get away from the police. Unless of course they happen to have a helicopter readily available 😂
I broke one of those rules. I stepped out of my car when pulled over, with a bloody rag on my hand. I sliced my finger and cut it badly. It startled the cop, when I explained I needed a DR, he escorted me to the ER. This could have ended very differently. I thank the almighty God that cooler heads prevailed that night.
Hey Larry, I spent a few months in Juvie, and despite being one of the younger people in there it was the worst experience of my Life, During my first few months It didn't sink in that I was in prison, and I rarely behaved, leading to beatings from the guards that lasted my whole sentence, While in there I started doing heavier drugs than I did prior to it, which almost ruined my life, as I constantly thought about ending it, I realise that I was somewhat lucky now that I watch your videos, and I've been trying to do better, It isn't easy, but your videos, rehab, and the members of my family who love me are helping tons.
wow sean I'm sorry you've had that experience. Do your best to make good choices. I know it's hard but you hear how bad things could get plus you've already seen it. I wish you the best. You can do this! Think of me when you are in a challenging situation and make the right choice. and lean on your rehab and family - they are so important. good luck - check back in and let me know how you are doing!
My stance on traffic stops or encounters with police. Do what they say. If a cop tells me to run down the street covered in jello I’ll do it... I’ll then sue them
Be polite but don't tell cops anything you don't have to. Comply with instructions, even if you think they are violating your rights, as arguing and resisting will only make the situation worse. If they did something wrong, sort it out in court, the side of the road is not the place to argue about that.
Couple of other tips (which did helped me when I was pulled over). 1. Make sure to turn off the engine before the cop gets to your door (already pretty well known but just thought that I'd reiterate it). 2. If it's at night, turn on your cabin lights (somewhat dependent on whether or not you have anything questionable in your car), this will help put them at ease if they can see who all is in your car. 3. Keep multiple copies of your insurance/registration. I usually keep a copy in the glovebox, center console, and most importantly wallet. The multiple copies are just so hopefully you'll always have an up to date version, but having a copy in your wallet will help keep the officer at ease since there's less of a chance you'll pull out a gun all of a sudden. 4. This last one is up to you since as Larry said if the cop sees you moving around in your car it may make him suspicious, but I usually pull out my wallet, put it in my lap, and return my hands to the steering wheel before the cop gets to my window. Again up to you, but like the other tips, it helps me keep my hands in sight at all times. 5. And lastly just to reiterate what Larry said, remain civil. A traffic stop is not the place to get into a heated argument. Pick your fights wisely.

I went on a ride-along in 1996 in Oakland, CA, on the night shift, when I was considering a law enforcement career. After being introduced on how to defend myself with the shotgun if the need arose, the night was essentially screaming from call to call, all of which were domestic disturbances, until about 2 or 3 AM; then it was sweeping through the poorer areas and pulling over every car - "license plate light out". I'm sitting there on the other side of the car, watching the cop search for drugs and guns on every stop, thinking...my license plate light doesn't work either, but I've never been pulled over for it. Most folks we stopped had a suspended license, so they couldn't drive the car away. Three hours later, driving through the same area, all these folks were walking home. We made one arrest, for threatening his wife with bodily harm (terrorist threat) during a disturbance call; the fellow certainly didn't understand the charge, and wasn't happy - but didn't really do anything that I could see which justified the the 6-8 cops gathering around, billy clubs out, "in case of a fight" during the transfer to the paddy wagon. This being 1996, I got out of the car to show them I was present, since...who knows what they were planning...I can't think it would have been a fight, since , to me, a fight is two dudes on basically equal terms, not one handcuffed black guy and 8 white cops with billy clubs. That's a state-subsidized, legal (assuming creative report writing) beating. That night pretty much ended my career plans. Not because there shouldn't be cops, I just came to a realization that I wouldn't be onboard with any of the current strategies employed; I just couldn't see myself being happy in that career. There was a general attitude among all the officers were they only dealt with "stupid people". Granted, the night shift does tend to bring out the drunks and other general maleficence, but there's plenty of people who work nights and evenings and have to drive home in those areas as well; the jobs in those areas really don't pay enough to cover an accident, a bunch of parking tickets, and especially not a DUI, hence the rash of suspended licenses. Oakland PD did this type of policing for years; the drugs are still there, and there's more guns today than ever. If de-funding police means employing alternative policing methods, like Richmond PD did (employing former drug addicts to work with current drug addicts), I'm all for it.
I had my first stop in four years of driving just a few weeks ago. It was basic speeding and both me and the officer were very respectful to one another. He was enforcing the speed limit near a neighborhood on a back road and I wasn't paying as much attention as I should have. In the end, just be respectful, be polite, it usually saves everyone a lot of trouble.
I wish I recorded when i got pulled over a few weeks ago, my windows don't roll down so I talked to them threw my sunroof (all the way open) they were trying to pry my door open and intimidated me to open my door. I was on a dark road in Texas past mid night they pulled me over for driving in the fast lane, a sign stated it was for passing only but there was a bunch of semis on the road with bright lights. I'm a Combat Vet with PTSD I was scared they were going to shoot me the way they handled that. Smh I was nicer to the Afghanis than the police are to our own citizens. It disgusts me smh
That is interesting because i told a cop when she pulled onto the road that her headlights were not on and she threatened to arrest me... which i just did not want her to get hit or hit anyone else. She detained me for a bit and asked me why i was so nervous if i had nothing to hide. She let me go but followed me when i got in my car.

Cop pulled me over once and I accidentally gave him my firearms owners I'd card instead of my license. He went back to his car and didn't say anything. 5 minutes later about 10 other cops show up, ... Now cop must have felt this was a threat? So called the entire police force? Didn't amount to anything but some questions and a pat down and a field sobriety test. But he could of saved a lot of time if he just told me off the bat I gave him wrong I'd, was dark, a simple mistake.

When a cop pulls you over and runs your plates, he knows whether or not you're on record as having a concealed-carry permit. So when a cop approached my car, I made sure to greet him and say, "I have a permit for concealed carry" (making sure that the first word is 'permit' before saying anything else about a weapon). Great advice, Larry. Thanks for your work here.
Can tell that was a scary moment for you. Been pulled over 15 times since I served by time in federal prison and each time that heart races a million miles a hour, even with nothing on me and I havent done anything. ( No tickets were issued, just random stops for whatever reason they chose.) Really good advice and should be taken for safety and less problems. Really cool you offering to help others. You got a lot of calls from it? I really agree about cops being used to help the community. Good way to put it. Never run or try to out run. Always an interesting watch. Great video
Most departments have a policy against using your computer while driving. But its not like someone watches every piece of possible footage that could show it, so i definitely see your point.
One thing I will add as a long time overnight delivery driver who has had many run ins with the police; at night, if you're pulled over, turn on the cab light. That shows them you have nothing to hide. By the time they came up to me, I had the light on, window down, hands at ten and two with my license and registration in hand. Most cops are pretty cool if you're willing to help put them at ease. Also, I've had police roll up on me during a delivery and all you gotta do in don't panic, don't move and show your hands. I've gotten pulled so many times lol I got to know some of them and they've cut me breaks because they knew me. I even walked in on a break in once and I knew the guys who answered the call. That's the way it should be. Get to know who's policing you. Especially your Sherrifs. They need your vote.

Larry, I want to point out that I personally know retired officer Carl Adams Jr (one of the leading officers in Indiana in his day; SWAT, K9, counterterrorism, etc) and he says to never take a test from a portable breathalyzer on the roadside, to firmly request that your breathalyzer test be administered at the precinct because ALL breathalyzers are extremely precise instruments that require micro adjustments to the calibration and that the portable units officers have in their cars are never accurate due to a multitude of factors such as: unit temp (was it in the trunk in the dead of winter?), how often it is calibrated, etc. Officer Adams Jr. used to calibrate breathalyzers and says that anything but the machine at the precinct will give bogus results. Love your videos!! Keep them coming!!
I really appreciate this, Larry. I’ve got my Learner’s permit but I can’t get my license for a couple more months. Extremely valuable information for someone like me.
Randomly came across one video. Now I can’t get enough. @LarryLawton you have opened my eyes, a look at a different perspective. Thank you for making these videos. I love them and are very informative
The officer should on a traffic stop anyway. I always say my name, agency, and the reason for the stop after I get the persons drivers license and other paperwork.
Great video, great advice, thanks! With all that’s going on I actually have hope that this is the beginning of a revolution in police Reform. Things needs to change!! I think reappropriating funds is a great first step, along with stricter mental health assessment, and restructuring the training program all together.. I digress, when I get pulled over a trick that seems to work is to immediately turn on my interior lights, they are less suspicious and more respectful.

When I was 16 years old, I was being harassed by a cop that would constantly pull me over. I didn't know I could report him and most of all anyone would listen to me. I wish I had seen this when I was that age! A few years later this same cop that harassed me was fired. Guess karma took care of him in this case.
Concerning ~11:50... some states have what's called "implied consent" meaning if you refuse a PBT you automatically lose your license for a year regardless if you're drunk or not. and in that situation, they WILL get a warrant for an involuntary blood test. It's not right, but be mindful of this.

Hey Larry, I completely and totally agree with you. We have a very messed up Law Enforcement System in this country and it seriously needs to be completely overhauled. As you know Larry, the United States has laws in place to keep the peace and to protect the public / innocent living in this country. However, we should still all continue to be treated with respect and dignity when Interacting with Law Enforcement as we are still human beings. Larry, we all know this problem exists in every city across this country and needs to stopped right now. This type of behavior / treatment is completely unlawful and unjust. Thank you Larry. Jimmy.
I got a Sheriff suspended for 5 days with no pay for flipping me off. 3 friends and I were skateboarding behind a Chevron and 2 sheriffs rolled up and told us to leave, they did not see my friend who was sitting in her car, we were nice and said to them "Have a good night" the one sheriff said "Yeah you too" and flipped me off. I told my friend who was in the car and she called her Dad and told him what happened. Her Dad was the Sargent and a damn good officer as well. Her Dad was pissed that his employees would do that so he suspended the officer for 5 days no pay and he had to call me to apologize. My friends Dad told me that he told him that if he harasses me at anytime that I will call him and let him know. A month later I saw that officer at the Chevron on break and as I walked him he looked at me and got the fuck up and left in a hurry. This was back in 1999 times. I was 18 at the time and I was still nervous going out skateboarding because I didn't know if that officer told others to fuck with me if they saw me. I found out that the officer got fired 5 months later for planting drugs on some kid he pulled over that just happened to be the a kid of a judge. Haha, what a dumbass.
You shared some good tips. Something I learned (at least as a local policy) for an incident inn the parking lot were I worked): If you're going to jail [outstanding warrant], do NOT trying jumping back into the vehicle to leave b/c if the police must arrest you *out* of the vehicle, there is not an option to leave it parked on the store's lot, procedure then requires it to be impounded (then your friend, who owns it can't get to the work the next day.) Sucks, but if your know you're going, the best thing is to accept it an make no resistance. I appreciate that you understand the need for policing while objecting to a-hole behavior. Driving or walking, I've had a few mean cops stops in my 6+ decades but mostly smooth and agreeable, very professional.
I wish I had known this years ago. When I was a kid fresh out of college a cop did this to me and gave me a reckless driving ticket when I was only going 35 mph. Even the DA called it the most ridiculous ticket he had ever seen.
12:38 as a black man I'ma have to disagree with you there...been a licensed carrier since I was 21 (I'm 27 now) and been stopped over a dozen times. Always had a gun(s) in the car and never told them. It's just not worth it bringing it up, unless it's actually in the place where your car insurance is, but I usually get that out before they get to the car/before I even pull over. If they ask, then I tell them. If not, don't ask don't tell is the best policy.
i agree. never dealt with police about it but thats what i would do. seen too many cops episodes. seems like you tell them you have a legal gun that means your are getting 5 other cars as backup, pulled out of the car, patted down, car searched etc. I'd just leave it alone and take my traffic citation and be on my way if it happens to me. If they bring it up yea I would tell them because lying about it could be criminal and you dont want anything to threaten your 2A rights.
17 years of law enforcement experience I'll tell you the harder you make the stop go like not rolling your window down or holding up little signs or not stopping because you don't trust the police the higher the odds you're going to get a ticket with a monetary fine instead of a verbal warning. Just my 0.02 cents. As far as field sobriety test, I arrested over 100 people for drunk driving and had one conviction. ONE. That offender had 11 prior offenses but only 5 prior convictions. Yeah, don't take any of the tests it really doesn't matter because you're going to get arrested anyway. It's how the law is written. Let the jury set you free ( which they normally do ). My philosophy is a first time DUI offender is going to shell out about $6,000 for a lawyer plus all the court fee's so I'm ok with that punishment instead of a conviction.
you know it's a shame we have to think like this. I wish we could count on our cops to be on our side. I understand they have rules to follow but some make the experience even worse than it has to be. I'm fine with community police ideals. I do appreciate your service because I know we need cops. good cops. I did my time and I accepted it. It's the good cops that will change things.
@@timmuller1567 that's a shame. it must be frustrating to try to do the right thing in that environment. it's a shame when a good cop quits because of it. thanks for giving it a push. 17 years is quite an accomplishment

alright so here's a story, a true story too I had this friend whom has a leg with bolts in it, got injured in war, he got pulled over because he was swerving to avoid a few animals running in front of him. I was in the vehicle. cop immediately flips his lights and siren on to pull us over as he was behind us when my friend swerved, cop asks for his license registration etc and then asks him to exit the vehicle after telling him he suspects hes drunk when he was swerving. my friend got out of the vehicle, informed the cop of his disability from war, said he has bolts in his leg from the military while in combat... says he wont be able to perform well on the DUI tests were his leg is required for stability but he'll do his best, he repeated this to the cop several times on the stop, the cop asked him to take a breathalyzer he refused, the cop asked him if he was sure and said he would revoke his license if he refused the breathalyzer. of course, the cop was actually rude during this entire interaction... my friend said no again refused, so the cop began taking down all the information from his license registration began writing up the paperwork to book him for the night, he proceeded to ask for further tests asked for the alphabet he did that fine, asked him to walk a strait line couldn't do it, his leg made his balance bad, he kept stumbling. the cop asked him to take a blood test he refused. his license got revoked etc... all other tests he passed with flying colors that didn't require his leg muscles to function fully... so my friend was put in jail me i have no idea what hes doing "hes a lawyer by the way" I end up having to take the vehicle back so it doesn't get impounded I was sober he was sober... but he got arrested for a DUI he didn't even have... some time shortly later he got released on OR, I go to the court dates, he fights the case and i'm just like dude what are you doing? when the trial occurs he asks a series of questions as he represented himself... "did I inform you of such and such injury on multiple occasions during the interaction we had on said date and time when pulled over?" the cop answered yes, my friend then asked "did you ask for my medical records, proof of service or any of that information" cop answered "no" then my friend asked "did you confirm any of the information I provided for you on site?" no... "it shows here on your notes that you heard me say I had a medical issue from my military service, yet you still proceeded to test me, what tests did you perform to use as evidence of a DUI?" the cop answered "well you refused the breathalyzer providing further suspicion, so we revoked your license as California law states that if you refuse a breathalyzer, your license will be revoked, additionally, you were unable to balance, you were able to recite the alphabet very clearly, and you were able to talk to me without slurring any words" now i don't recall word for word everything that was said here this was several years ago but this is the basics of what was said... my friend then proceeded to state in the court room "well your honor, you have the evidence before you right here, this officer, unlawfully arrested me, based on the facts stated before you, he did make notice of my medical condition he made it very clear in his notes and here on record that he was aware of my medical condition with my military service, here in writing I've brought a copy of my medical records with the military to prove that my injury is real and not fake. he sated in his notes the reason of the stop was swerving, my witness here (which is me) can confirm on record that I was swerving to avoid an animal in the road that startled me while driving when dark out, the officer proceeded to test me and the only evidence he has of a DUI is my lack of balance. I was unlawfully detained with no evidence other then the lack of balance, there is no breathalyzer, no blood test to prove any such DUI existed. lack of balance does not prove in any court room that any alcohol was consumed at all. OK well that's pretty close to how he actually worded his case in court he ended up winning the judge said that based on the evidence he has no choice but to reinstate his license, drop all charges and apologize to him for the unlawful detainment.
I believe in California that if you get your Drivers license or Permit, you already consent to a breathalyzer or blood test by receiving the license in your name. Okay story though
Patrick Sullivan exactly! Take the breathalyser, pass the test and everyone could have got on with their lives rather than wasting all that money and time on a trial. Cops have to deal with this sort of stupidity every day.

Man, telling your friend’s story brought back bad memories for me. I have been pulled over one time in my 3 years of having my license. I was going 10 over the speed limit simply because I was unfamiliar with that road and didn’t know what the limit was. I was going along on my way to my new job with my music up pretty loud and in a generally good mood. Road was 50mph when I got on. I was going 55, which is common here in Texas. It dropped to 45, and I didn’t know and was still going 55. Eventually I noticed lights behind me but didn’t really think much of it because as far as I knew I was doing nothing wrong. Just kinda figured he’d go where he needed to go and be on his way. I know that may sound naive, but at the time I’d only been driving 2 years, licensed a year and a half of that time. I was a few months after my 18th birthday. No idea I’d done anything wrong. So I kept driving. Couldn’t hear the siren or anything because my music was up loud. I figured I was a mile from my destination and if he were stopping me I could just stop there. Went through about 3 traffic lights minding my business singing along to my music as I often do. He knocked on my windows while I was stopped at a red light. (Motorcycle cop) I’m a short woman, only 5’1”. My mom has always told me horror stories of men targeting women stopped in traffic. I freaked out and jumped in my seat. Just lucky I kept my foot on the brake 😅 I rolled down my window and realized of course he was actually pulling me over for some reason and I’d messed up big time by not stopping. He told me to get over right then and there. I was in the left lane at a red light and had to wait for it to turn green and made my way to the right as quickly as I could and stopped in a parking lot. I knew I’d messed up and was majorly anxious. Dude started yelling at me, causing me to cry. Tried so hard not to and apologized profusely for not stopping. Guy didn’t care and just berated me. Absolute jerk. I have never been in an accident and had never been pulled over. I explained after he told me the speed limit it was a simple mistake, but he ticketed me anyway. I know 2 people who were stopped in school zones and didn’t get tickets!! I am still so traumatized from that awful experience. Took me an hour of sitting in my car crying before I decided I was back in a good enough mindset to safely drive home. Almost got myself rear ended by stopping for a yellow I should have gone through. I was just so terrified of making any mistakes and possibly running a red. I have to drive down that road all the time now and every time I pass that parking lot those bad memories resurface. I wish I’d recorded that encounter. I get that I made a mistake, but that’s on him for how horribly he treated me. If I’d known to record I would have complained to the police department. Didn’t bother contesting the ticket though I believe it was wrongfully given, simply because they would never believe someone so young over an officer.
Thank you Larry for this practical info. In Miami Dade County the cops are schooled to turn every traffic stop into a felony arrest, you/we have every right to be scared.
Let me tell you about how I recently got stopped, in Austria: I was going 70 in a 50 zone, (km, that is,) cop stops me, asks me for license and registration. I fumble around in my glove compartment and under the seat, looking for the registration, cause it's not my car, but I finally find it, it's all fine. He asks me "you know why I stopped you?" I say "yeah, I might have been going a little fast," expecting to get a ticket. (Shit happens, I'm not gonna try and argue.) "Yeah you were going 60!" "Alright, let's call it 60 then." *we both have a chuckle* "Okay buddy, you know I'm supposed to fine you, but if you promise me you'll take it slower, I'll let it slip." ...nowhere in that exchange I thought of it, as you say around 12:54, as a "dangerous situation." Now, I'm not part of an ethnical minority, I'm not looking particularly vulnurable or threatening, I'm just your average Joe... those things might change my experience, but I think the main reason for the relaxed situation is that the cop doesn't have to expect every other driver to have a fire weapon in the car. Call it a nanny state policy, but I think fewer guns means a more relaxed police force. It's either that, or police that are on edge, (for good reason!)
Love this video. Two things of note: There's actually a few apps you can install that automatically record police interactions with a voice prompt and upload to the cloud. The "defund the police" movement is actually inappropriately branded. It's originally saying re-appropriate the funds. It's just that too many people jumped on board that don't know what they're talking about
No and yes I back the blue not dictators if there are overfunded, fine, but the main movement is wrong, there is a better conservative way of doing things, Larry is 100% right about it he knows what he's doing👍
Re-appropriate funds is still less funding for police. I would need to see what was getting cut specifically. If the result could be less police in poor neighborhoods that would mean more people dying from violent crime. That's not an acceptable solution for curbing police violence.
@@K0sm1cKid Less police funds spent on drugs cases, more police funds spent on assault/robbery/murder cases. Policing used to mean something, to clean up the community and help the citizens. Now they are just obsessed with a stupid fucking never ending cat and mouse game with the drug cartels.
Larry you are awesome Sir. I'm a big fan of yours, and the fact that you put these videos out speaks volumes to your good nature. I remember from one of your older videos, you mentioned you were in the Coast Guard....Semper Paratus, Shipmate!
Hey Larry, I know a few cops. I really think the shootings that go on today, except for that idiot in Minnesota, have nothing to do with racism. The majority of cops today get a few hours of training when it comes to situations they will encounter and that’s it. While I was in the Marine Corp we practiced the same situations constantly. We didn’t practice til we got it right we practiced til we couldn’t get it wrong. That’s the issue in America today. The lack of consistent training on how to handle these situations. It’s called the escalation of force. Different situations dictate the type of force to use. When people panic cops included, people die. So defunding is never the answer. More funding could help. But I also say, just do what they say and fight them in court where you have a chance at winning.
You need to research the efforts of Camden, New Jersey. They "defunded" and reorganized their response to many calls for service. Murder rate is down nearly 50%. Violent crime down 40%. Defund does not mean dissasembling law enforcement. Now, go and find out about the success of Camden.

This went on for about 15 minutes right over the town's police duspatch channel until the chief came into the diner and said "So, I only have my job because I s$%k the mayor's #@ck?"
That's when the radio went dead. Needless to say, he is no longer on the job. I love it when what goes around comes around. 😌

The importance of this cannot be overstated. Good cops are good for the community, good for the police department, and good for society's peace of mind. They deserve our support, and we need more of them. Bad cops are bad news for everyone.

It went EXACTLY like this, and believe me, I know it sounds ludicrous:
"I stopped you because your rolled through that stop sign"
"That's a traffic light, sir, and it was green"
"Oh......... you weren't wearing your seatbelt."
"Sir, I'm still currently wearing it."
"Well, your registration is expired"
"Sir, that says August of this year. It's June."
"My mistake. Your windshield is dirty so I couldn't read it well. But you also have a license plate light out."
"Officer. It's broad daylight."
"I smell marijuana. Step out of the vehicle."
At this point I'd get slammed, and I mean SLAMMED to the hood of my car.

One good tip you didn't mention is to turn on your interior lights, at night, to show the cop that you're not hiding anything and give them visibility on your hands.
great idea! thanks
I did that when I got stopped
I do that too. Also when I got pulled over when my car had an actual key, I'd throw the keys on the dash above the steering wheel so the cop would see the keys and see that I'm not planning on running.
And if you have tinted windows, put ALL of them down so the cop can see inside better also.

I respect your insight so much Larry.

I pulled a cop over to tell him his tail light was out.
He thanked me.
Lies!!!

Hey Larry,
I completely and totally agree with you.

Great story

Too bad you didn't arrest ani before he killed all those kids

Thank you for building such a great community around your channel!

Larry: I got 5 stars already
I wish we could count on our cops to be on our side. alright so here's a story, a true story too I had this friend whom has a leg with bolts in it, got injured in war, he got pulled over because he was swerving to avoid a few animals running in front of him.
No one asked for you to write a story
I believe in California that if you get your Drivers license or Permit, you already consent to a breathalyzer or blood test by receiving the license in your name.
Okay story though
Why would he refuse the breathalyzer if he was sober?

Let me tell you about how I recently got stopped, in Austria:
I was going 70 in a 50 zone, (km, that is,) cop stops me, asks me for license and registration. I fumble around in my glove compartment and under the seat, looking for the registration, cause it's not my car, but I finally find it, it's all fine.
He asks me "you know why I stopped you?"
I say "yeah, I might have been going a little fast," expecting to get a ticket. (Shit happens, I'm not gonna try and argue.)
"Yeah you were going 60!"
"Alright, let's call it 60 then."
*we both have a chuckle*
"Okay buddy, you know I'm supposed to fine you, but if you promise me you'll take it slower, I'll let it slip."
...nowhere in that exchange I thought of it, as you say around 12:54, as a "dangerous situation." Now, I'm not part of an ethnical minority, I'm not looking particularly vulnurable or threatening, I'm just your average Joe... those things might change my experience, but I think the main reason for the relaxed situation is that the cop doesn't have to expect every other driver to have a fire weapon in the car.
Call it a nanny state policy, but I think fewer guns means a more relaxed police force. It's either that, or police that are on edge, (for good reason!)
you are talking about a whole different culture
American cops deal with a lot of crazy people at traffic stops so they do everything they can to keep control of the situation.
Love this video. Two things of note:
There's actually a few apps you can install that automatically record police interactions with a voice prompt and upload to the cloud.

Learned some new things on this one. I really appreciate your emphasis on the value of community policing over a police state
Hey Larry, I know a few cops.
How about the police should better spend its money for training of their officers, and not for buying every military surplus stuff it can get?
@@letoubib21 you'll never get a high up police officer or politician to really agree to this as there is too much money being made on those sales and kickbacks being paid out to said high up police and politicians.
I got pulled over once for a "license plate light" my car was a 95 Pontiac Sunfire it didnt have that feature.
Anyone else getting totally Pissed with the amount of 'Adverts' on RUclips thease days?😡😡🖕

Yeah, youtubes been getting worse as of late, as far as loading videos down with both commercials and banner advertisements.
Try following someone teaching code on the screen when there's banners popping up every three minutes and commercials every five..........
Especially the political ads.
