Thank you so much for putting this video together. I watched others but yours was the only one to specifically talk about the powder bar and proper belling. This was the one area I couldn't figure out easily. Your video made it all come together for me. Thanks again.
It took me awhile to see your casing in the shell holder when I put the powder dispenser back together, but an excellent video and I am glad I watched while setting up my new RL550. Great job !!
Tacticool my man! I don't need your stinking help. The 550 is up and running and except for a minor primer feed issue it was cake! I thought it was going to be tougher to set up then it was but your videos were a big help. Makes me wonder what we did before RUclips. I gotta find another powder. The Titegroup is some dirty foul chit and I would like more volume to the weight but live and learn. Thanks for the assist. Rock on budski!
Thanks for the video... been reloading for years, but was just given a 550 for my B-day. Having a video sure makes it a lot easier to set things up on the new press!
Great video. A suggestion if I may: measure the length of the case, confirm the length is to specification and adjust the belling accordingly. After brass has been fired it stretches and if the brass used to set the belling is longer than specification, it won't bell brass that is the proper size.
it is accurate enough. if you were going for precision rifle, you may want a bit more accurate measure. but for volume shooting this is good enough. plus or minus 0.1 grain or so.
@MakingMasterClass well....you wont blow yourself up! Will you save money.....? Probably not because you will shoot a lot more. So basically, you will save something like 40% a box for 9mm, and get to shoot that much more unless the amount of shooting you do. I have begun to shoot WAY WAY more since reloading...I cant resist all those shinny reloads....and you get to customize your loads. A big deal for IDPA.
The powder is as accurate as if you measured each charge with a powder trickler - I did a 50 round each comparison on a 77 gr .223 load and there was NO difference between the thrown charges and the trickles ones...just yesterday I set my 550 up again for .45 ACP and the meassure is throwin EXACTLY 5.8 gr of W231 after 30 loaded rounds. @ChromeFreak123 Man, I am telling you, it is the way to go. You will shot more and get custom loads. Plus, if you are in the right mind set, it is very relaxing.
Do you leave powder in your powder measure or do you empty it after every session? I have no windows in my room so UV isnt an issue. Is it true plastics and powder weaken each other....? Ive left powder for a week or so in a cheap hopper and never had an issue. Just setting up my rl550b fir the first rime and curious on your thoughts of the topic.
+MaxPatchs Reloading manuals and powder manufacturers suggest that you not store powder in the measure more than 24 hours at a time. It's suggested that (1) the chemicals will weaken the plastic in the measure and (2) the powder will react to light and UV and change, which is why they send us powder in non-see-through containers.
I wouldn't be so concerned about powder weakening the plastic. The UV thing might be valid but I don't know for sure. I recommend the return of the powder to the container it came from followed by cleaning out the dispenser with pressurized air. If there's a little powder left over when changing and two different powders mix, there's no other guaranteed safe option besides tossing the entire contents of the dispenser. Moreover, if reloading in a moist environment storing it in a sealed container is better than leaving it in the dispenser. Lastly, sometimes people forget what they had in there and refill it with a different powder. Returning the powder after each use will minimize potential problems in the future.
how do you adjust your powder. my setup is throwing out 3.7 grams and i need 4.6 grams in my ammo. i am waiting for Dillon to send me the owners manual . i inherited my dillon and i am in need of help.
No fluff, straight to each point allied with a hair of humor that is spot on common sense......
thanks man

Excellent video, much learer explanation than the Dillon manual.
Outstanding my 2 amendment brother. This us the first decent post on setup of powder.

Man I just want to thank you for taking the time to make these vids I really appreciate it helped me loads thanks .stephen .from northern ireland
nice vid. helpful. lots of details. just got a 550d yesterday. set up and tuned in two hours. no more single stage pistol reloading for me.

Excellent video. I found it extremely helpful. Thank you for taking the time to put it together.
Thank you for these vids. I'm learning to reload, and am pretty much set on buying the 550B. This makes it so much less intimidating...
I have never gotten into reloading, a little when I was a kid with my Dad but nothing serious. You have kinda got me wanting to do some. : )
Been looking at a 550, thanks for the vid .
I know this is quite old but thank you as I'm currently resurrecting my early 90's 550 b back to service I hope
i have one from the 90's and the powder measure is different.this video helped when i ordered a newer powder system
Jeff Arthur mine is from ‘88
it depends on the powder. but overall it is accurate enough.
thanks for the vids, its really helping setting it up, keep up the good work :)

Do you what’s wrong if the small part of the linkage is hitting the powder measure aluminum as the lower the tray?
The white bellcrank cube must travel completely to the end of the travel...NOT BEYOND!!!
its funny how you say "okay"...... made me laugh my ass off! but it was a great vid! thanks!
Good presentation.
Do you have a video on the "next step". Adjusting the amount of powder that is dropped into the casing? Thanks

Thank you
being lazy I just check the mouth bell with a bullet and if it fits in the case mouth it is a good setting.
yes
cool!
@jabez0657 thanks!
Thanks
How do you change the powder bar from one to the other? Don't wanna spend the money for a quick change..
@MakingMasterClass not at all. i'll share all i know
only if you are loading flat based bullets
Hallo John,
Have you ever reload for Tokarev tt33 pistol? I mean the 7.62x25mm Tokarev bullets.
Grts
how accurate is the powder dispenser compared to doing it by hand with a scale?
Do you need to bell a rifle case like a pistol?
@rage801 Bad habit.....ok

on the powder bar is a screw. turn it counter clockwise to reduce charge and clockwise to increase charge.
Your bell is or should be enough to hold your bullet, the measuring is not so exact, your not going to weaken it that much
Need 1 penny for every OK or Right said.
ok
No Sir, sorry.
I looked but I didnt see the vids for installing the other 2 dies?
Because the video is ONLY for the powder measure setup
Is it normal for them to verify your address?
