    great video. I am in the process of repairing my 1959 5.5 Johnson so far have the magneto play out and apart, one coil is burned through to the base I had suspected the motor was running on one cylinder, now I am sure that was my problem. I will check back in for an update and have subscribed to your video's. Thanks for the help

    Another great video. Lots of good technical information and hands on demonstration.

    You can tell this ain’t T-Mike’s first rodeo because he cuts the bags open with all the little parts versus ripping them open and the parts going flying everywhere in his shop!

    Great video. I use the old spark plug wires to measure out the new ones. Usually, I add an inch in order to allow for cutting a bit of its ends off so as to hit fresh copper core during a future coil or spark plug boot replacement. I also use marine heat shrink tubing instead of those ruber inserts to get a good water tight connection where the wire screws in the coil. Amitiés mon ami !

    Where do the grease packets go that came with the points? I’m finished with my rebuild thanks to you. Do you also put grease on the shaft or around the shaft?

      Apply grease to inner ring of mag plate.

    Hey T-Mike, I found this video really helpful. I did notice you didn't put back on the new condensers, though? Is that difficult or pretty straightforward?

    T-Mike! Love your videos! Keep up the good work👍 I have an Evinrude 25553b that I am working on now. My question is: how do you set the air gap on a single driver coil magneto? I noticed you had a ring to set the dual coil magnetos. Thanks

    Thanks for all the videos T-Mike. I’ve followed them (including this one) to bring a 1968 Johnson 9.5 back from the dead after 30 years sitting in the back of a barn. Now it starts easily and runs smooth at low revs, but won’t throttle up above about 30% rpm when in gear. Would love any ideas (or a video!) about how to fix this. Thanks!

    Hey T-Mike. I just installed the Sierra tune-up kit. 8.5k ohm from plug wire to ground, Coils flush with the shoulders, condensers seem to charge/discharge properly, 1 ohm across points, points gapped to .020" at "top" arrow, spark plug gapped at .030" (new), magneto greatly passes the screwdriver hold test...I'm getting a light with the inline tester but no spark across my gap tester or when I hold the plugs in boot to ground. Any ideas what to check next? 1966 Johnson 6hp

      Is there a kill switch on your motor ?

    • @travisestes6217
      @travisestes6217 Год назад +1

      @@michaeljsimon No sir. It seems like it would just starve it of gas when you twist the tiller handle back to "stop".

    Thanks for all the videos! I'm restoring my grandfather's 67 20hp down here in New Orleans; I even bought a couple of parts from your eBay store! Though it hasn't been ran for about 35 years it was stored appropriately and still has good spark. I wasn't planning on pulling the magneto but I was wondering if I should in order to change out the oiler wick/check the points. Would you think that's a necessary step? I've taken apart most of the outboard, but was hoping to leave the powerhead and magneto as is.

      Just check Spark. 1/4” gap. If good Spark leave magneto as is.

      I owned a 1974 6hp Evinrude for 17 years. After about the first 10 years it became harder to start...like 3 pulls. I removed the flywheel and simply regapped the points because the fiber cam follower had worn. Once the proper gap was re-established the engine started like new...1 or 2 pulls. Did not check timing...simply adjusting the gap put the timing back to factory spec.

      @T-Mikes Vintage Outboards Restoration Thank you! Your training videos are extremely helpful. I ordered some spark plug wire and plug ends. My coils ohm'd out good and condensers are testing good. Plug wires are toasted. I'll try to rebuild it myself. Wish me luck! LoL

      Thanks again! I replaced the spark plug wires and she has spark again! New j8c plugs and she fired up first pull. Now I need to replace the water pump.
