T-mike, do you normally fine that the lower units hold that 7 pounds of pressure. How often do you have to rebuild the lower unit on these, with all the gaskets and o-rings?
Hey T-Mike! I'm trying to put my lower unit on (this model shown in the video) And i tighten down the brass fitting for the linkage and the rest of the lower unit and go to shift and the linkage comes right off the shift rod! ( ihave the lower unit in reverse as im doing this aswell) Do you know what i could be doing wrong? TIA
Hey T Mike When I take my drain plug out the oil pours out so I'm bot holding pressure I'd assume. What's the best way to fix that? I have a few of these motors I've picked up from barns and cottages that have sat so I'm assuming its seals somewhere?
The brass tool you use to pressurize lower units looks pretty generic. Was it actually designed for outboards or something you found and adapted for the application?
Excellent , full of tips and tricks along with best practice . Now I will do mine. Thank you
Thank Mike helps me out with my MQ-10R, great Lil motor
Does it have to be in neutral or f/r when we take out the lower unit??
Any gear is fine
Hi T Mike, did you make the end fitting for your pressure tester? Or can it be purchased ?
It can be purchased- it’s the manual pump end fitting

I have several videos on testing and replacing seals on gear cases. Just search my playlists.
@@michaeljsimon thanks! I will for sure. Cheers pal. Appreciate the videos
Ok, but what kind of gear oil does it use?
Any 90 weight gear oil.

What gear does it need to be in before you drop the lower unit
Neutral
@@michaeljsimon thank u sr
You say it takes 2 gallons of oil and the camera was to low I couldn't see where the rubber on top of the shaft went to.
Is there a way for the average “wanna be” outboard mechanic to pressure check lower units?
You could diy a bycyle pump and stick in a bucket of water and look for air bubbles
