You're the man Mike, love the videos. I'm restoring my grandfathers 3 johnson motor and I have been watching your videos, they have been extremely helpful.
Thanks Mike, I'm looking for a carburetor for a 12 hp sea king GG-9016a there's a couple on ebay that r reasonably priced for rebuild would prefer one read to go or a rebuild kit for one of those Thanks I love these old outboard motors
Mine are riveted on, on my 1968 mercury 9.8, so no adjustment. I’m trying to figure out why my original coil, points and condenser work on the bottom cylinder, but my new coil, points and condenser don’t make spark on the upper. Driving me insane!
I have watched alot of your videos. I have a 1968 Seaking (Chrysler) 3.5hp. I installed a new old stock coil which tested good using instructions from your other video. I bought a new condenser but the old one tested better per the manual so i left it on. Replaced spark plug and made a new lead. Everything tests good and is installed up per the service manual but still no spark. This is a family motor and I'd really love to get it running but I'm lost at this point...
BRP point sets have shown varying levels of quality for the past few years. One of the problem I've come across often is that, right off the box, the point's mating surfaces do not align when closed. As any manual will tell you that these points are bad., I'll try bending the points' arm next time I'm faced with that situation. Au revoir et merci mon ami !
Hey Mike. Thanks for the tips. I have a similar problem with new BRP point sets. I cant adjust enough so they will open. Almost like the hole that goes over the adjustment screw is to big. So ive just been keeping the original oem points, filing and cleaning them and they still work great. Im done with buying new point sets altogether.
Thanks for this video. I am struggling with spark on the top cylinder. This was even after I replaced everything on the magneto plate. I went back in and replaced coil and plug wire again, I got spark, but when I put the motor in the water it still wants to run on only one cylinder. I will try to clean the points and check my coil placement, wish me luck. I love your videos, by the way.
Mike, the Sierra points I’ve bought recently do as your 4th tip says…Not fully adjustable with the screw cam. Thanks for the bending tip. I also find that if they are able to be closed the contact faces are not anywhere close to parallel. Do you recommend filing to make them parallel or bend the daylights out of them until parallel?
Love your videos, Mike. I was wondering, will that tune-up kit work for a 1975 montgomery ward? And perhaps if you knew where I could locate some coils for it?
HELP MIKE--- How do I align the points when the "contacts do not match up properly"(the wired connection side is higher) but they are "Parallel" to each other just not the same height. Does this mean the points are no good or can they be adjusted some how?
Hi Mike when i have to bend the points in order to get them to touch the points are now no longer perfectly parallel because I had to bend it enough that the point on that side is now at a slight angle that is visible.. have you had any issue w this?
a local guy brought a Evinrude Lightwin by my shop to see if I can get it running for him. I'm not seeing spark my question is what kit do you use with this engine and spark plugs, it has champion J8C plug now with a .035 gap. he likes the light weight engine it helps him get around with it at the boat due to his handicap.
@@michaeljsimon mike I got the little engine running pretty good for a rookie thanks to your video's., now he wants to find a handle grip for the tiller the white one any Leds on one of those.
T Mike when I rev my 8 hp evinrude high up in neutral. it " loads up" .. what I mean by this, is the rpms want to stay high for a bit, after ive throttled it down,, the rpms come down very slow, but do come down.. wondering what causes this? is the motor getting too much fuel at high rpms? is it going too lean, and that makes the rpms shoot up, kind of like when you run the fuel out of a carburetor and right before it dies it goes lean and the rpms shoot up for a few seconds?
I actually made a coil alignment tool using my 3d printer, works great!
Sell them to me wholesale
This video helped me so much. You’re a god sent person. Thank you very much.

Hi there.
Ignition coils are not available new for 3.3 hp johnson outboards year 1991. Whats the solution?
@@rainerneumeister5239 sorry 1991 is too new for me. Good luck.

Sounds like points to me. Swap points to move trouble.

Why is my points sparking where they connect
My "tool" was a piece of PVC pipe I had lying around.
