    Every son of Ragnar got what he wanted:
    - Bjorn: Died like a king, saving his people and being more famous than his father
    - Ubbe: Became a great explorer, found his golden land
    - Hvitserk: Probably found peace and gained clarity on his path
    - Ivar: Played a huge geopolitical role in history (dethroning kings and being king himself) and also in his final moments he revealed that all he ever wanted was for his brothers to love him and care for him. Not out of pity but because they truly loved him.
    The moment he says "I am afraid" and Hvitserk reassures him that he "won't tell anyone" mirrors the loving relationship between a little brother who is afraid and a big brother who is there for him.
    - Sigurd: Fck him, he was adopted

      Hvitserk became a god after having sex with a godess and eating her apples, which granted him eternal life, like they did to all gods before. Hvitserk is also Othere, who traveled back in time to help Ubbe on his journey to the Golden Land, because when he was young he chose to travel with Ivar. If you dont believe me, Othere said his name was also Athelstan, like Hvitserks after he was baptized. Othere also said he learned fighting when he grew up as a Viking and he was also burned on his belly and legs, like Hvitserk when he was burned and almost executed by Björn.

    For the people asking why Ivar let some scrub stab him. Ivar was ready to die. His bone disease would basically paralyze him. The more blue his eyes were, the closer it was to happening.
    Ivar wanted to die on the battlefield and not be bedridden the rest of his life. He wanted to
    join his father in Valhol 🖤

    • @gib59er56
      @gib59er56 Год назад +5

      Nice picture. Ivar was just a scared ,spoiled mommas boy. He threw tantrums to try to intimidate, because he knew nothing about dealing with others. He would not even understand what Ragnar tried to teach him, as he took him alone to England to learn how to use your brain when diplomacy was needed and brutality when that was needed. Ragnar knew both very well. Viking, King, and most importantly learned from Athelstan how the English thought and acted. He was always hungry for knowledge like Odin was. His mind held wisdom and his hand held might and cunning brutality. A Viking. A real Viking. Ivar just could not understand. He wanted to die, yes, you are right I think. But he was afraid of death, so the chance of him going to Odin`s halls in Valhalla was zero. Helheim is where he went, and he will see Hel`s rotting face for eternity or Ragnarok. The actor playing Ivar did a great job, he was brilliant. You surprise me, by your comment you have to know this. Anyway, take care!

    Ivar's end was absolutely fantastic. He chose his fate just like his father. His illness was getting worse, and he knew that his illness was going to be the end of him, so instead of dying in a bed like some old drooling man, he chose to die in a battle, like a true Viking. I mean, after he was stabbed, his arms gave out so he couldn't support himself any longer and his legs literally snapped in half. It was such a poetic death. He claimed to be a god and no hero could kill him. Then a scared foot soldier got right up to him. And Ivar accepted it. And Ivar wasn’t afraid of death, he was afraid of being forgotten. Of the gods forgetting who he was. That’s why his bother was telling him he would be remembered forever, because he knew that’s what he was afraid of. And in the end he got everything he wanted in his life: reputation, child and love (from his brother, Igor and perhaps even Katia)

    By far my favorite character in Vikings. Him dying in the arms of his brother and confessing to being afraid in his dying breath just after he had given a badass speech was beautiful. Everything that Ivar is was incapsulated in these last minutes of his life. Ivar did horrible things in his life, but many people relate to the alienation he felt and it was inspiring to see a cripple and a reject overcoming the odds to become the most feared Viking of all time. I'm glad he didn't die alone, he wanted to be loved deep down and he had his brother's love in the moment of his death. Thank you to Alex Hogh Andersen for bringing this charismatic and amazing character to life.

    The actor who plays Ivar, Alex Høgh Andersen, have said many times in interviews that the key aspect that you need to understand about his Ivar is that he is "so used to pain, that he wouldn’t even show it
    ". Also, as Ragnar said, people will always underestimate him because of his disability, so he has to play cool to be taken seriously.
    Knowing this really changes one's perception of this scene imo: his words about being afraid is no longer cowardly, it's probably the first and the last moment in his life when he can really put his guard down. And it happens to be Hvitserk of all people who shares this moment with him, after years of love/hate relationship they reconcile with each other in a very beautiful way - one tells the secret and the other one promises to keep it.

  • @StrivedeLaLear

    This scene was perfectly executed.
    Just as Ivar shouted, he died as a warrior and would be reunited with his loved ones in Valhalla. His legacy would be his family, whom he dedicated his life to earning the love and respect of just like his father Ragnar before him.
    We also see Floki, who helped Ivar participate in his first battle, reacting to his final battle when he hears the birds take flight. This could symbolize Odin's ravens bringing news of Ivar's death to Valhalla because Floki is extremely spiritual and was instrumental in mentoring young Ivar about the Norse Pantheon.
    Finally, Hvitserk's last words to his younger brother come to fruition as now everyone knows of Ivar The Boneless thanks to the preservation of and continued devotion to Norse Mythology and it's Legends. That's one of the awesome things about this show, it's supposed to be educational.

    • @StrivedeLaLear
      @StrivedeLaLear Год назад +2

      @@am1rk1ng63 It's not that Ragnar stopped believing, but his faith was shaken when he saw a vision of the gates of Valhalla closing on him. Even the most devoted of zealots took will lose faith when they find out they're not going to Heaven. So Ragnar took control of his own destiny. He plotted his own death and in a sense became his own God.
      Even so, that doesn't mean Valhalla doesn't exist in the minds of his sons. That's why Floki was there, lol. And Floki was more of a father to Ivar anyways. In a sense, Ivar is the most devoted to the Norse Pantheon of all his brothers.

    “I am afraid,” Ivar splutters, words no-one thought they would ever hear from Ivar the Boneless. And then there are three more; his final words: “I love you.” Ivar has thus broken the cycle. He has sacrificed himself not for hate, as his father once did, but for love. He was finally able to know and to feel human love; and crucially to demonstrate it instead of demanding it, even if it was right at the end of his life, and only for a few moments. Already Ivar had begun to demonstrate humility. On the eve of the battle he told Hvitserk: “Hundreds of years from now, someone will be proud to find my blood is in their body and my spirit is in their soul.” Maybe part of him realized that in becoming a father he’d finally achieved the immortality after which he’d always hungered, and it was enough. One of the only characters after Ragnar who is completely himself. Went down a evil hill and got reborn in season 6. Literally died in battle for his brother whom he didn’t respect forever. The battle is about chess. That’s why he “the king” went out and died to save his people. I hated Ivar. But when I saw him crying like a baby in this scene, I remembered that we are all little children. We just pretend to be grownups. And there’re some moments in life we can’t pretend anymore. Moments like this.

    I think people are taking Ivar's " I'm afraid" line in the wrong way. I took it as Ivar was afraid that he did not achieve enough, that he would just die and his name would be forgotten. That's why Hvitserk told him that "I'll make sure that no one ever forgets Ivar the boneless" because he knew what his brother was afraid of

    I've never felt scared that much watching a show when ivar says he's afraid, he gives so much emotion in few seconds... Ivar was observing other people death with fascination since the beginning, king Aelle, Sigurd and many others. But when it was his turn to die, even know he was not afraid to fight and die during battle, his last seconds were human as fuck, like you may be a badass all your life but that sensation when you see the death coming and taking you, that human part that fear death wakes up inside you and takes control.
    Man I felt him like I was dying too, I didn't like him at all but this one scene proved me what an absolute genius actor he is. Insane!!!

    I don’t want to believe that people in the comment section are actually this dumb…
    have you even watched the show or trailers only? This death was poetic and of symbolic significance. He died like this on purpose, to preserve his name and not die in bed with his bones broken as his condition kept on worsening. What he did allowed him to secure his legacy.. all this dialogue with the saxon soldier was on purpose as well… it was Ivar talking to himself in fact… just note how he was orchestrating the whole battle using other soldies like his dolls… this battlefield was all in his head..
    and this saxon warrior wasn’t random.. if you had paid attention in the previous episode you could have spotted that this soldier was the one who was most scared, when looking into the forrest… now this all makes sense with Ivar’s line toward him…
    Hirst is a genius script writter and a director…

      I also love how his final conversation with the seer ties in perfectly with this. I think when the seer said Ivar would do anything to avoid his faith is about him willing to do anything to live without his condition, bc it is the reasom he chose die die in the first place. This is probally why he wanted to believe the seer because Ivar knew that he was going to die like a warrior that day because he knew he could never be healed anyways. I also think he was afraid because he genuienly didn't want to die but he had no other choice

    Ivar was stabbed 8 times. In Norse mythology the number 8 means, "Something that is unstable or an unlucky number". This is which symbolizes Ivar as a character throughout the show.
