I wish they would have shown us just a glimpse of Rollo at the end. Even just a panning shot at the very end showing Hvisterk visiting him in France after converting to Athlestan. It just would have been cool! Either way the final episode was great and it didn't feel like the show was about to end until the last 10 mins. What am amazing ride this show was.

I can officially say this has surpassed Game of Thrones in my eyes because it ends nicely. I don't hate everything after the final shot. All I had was a big smile on my face, the end of an extraordinary journey
This is it, chief. It was a simple and nice conclusion that made sense for the most part. Some wholesome moments. some awesome fight scenes and battles, as always, incredible acting and editing. Im happy with how it ended.
I thought it was very silly. The conversations in the middle of the battle, the Alfred concern for Ivar (even though he ravaged his country and tried to abduct his queen) the crying of Hvitserk. The Floki dialogue is babble as usual.
The Kattegat story was boring af! But I wish the last scene would’ve been ivar entering Valhalla & seeing his father & brothers & Lagatha & The Alfather & Thor 😕 but it was great to see Floki when I thought all the OG season 1 characters was dead 😆 soon as they said “crazy man” I was like 😆it’s Floki!!
Could all possibly coming back for the ending of the spin off Valhalla. Would make sense at the end of that show since it will actually cover the end of the Viking era
@Joseph Martin No, the viking age lasted from 793 to 1066, The show chose to show from 793 - 875 (totally messing up real history in the process.) They literally mix the characters with other real people who had other names etc. Makes the show really bad in my opinion. In the earlier seasons when they attacked paris - that actually happened later than the final battle in the story so they go back and forth without care.
One of the rare series that i genuinely felt emotional seeing it come to an end. Absolute masterpiece from start to finish. Thank you for bringing such an incredible idea to life.
When Ivar was crying he was afraid, all the emotions of his life came up. Lived in a society where someone like him would have been cast aside bc he was crooked and broken. He overcame it all and lived like Ranger asked him. Ruthless, then even gained some compassion which was not expected. He did not need to be afraid, Odin was there for him
@@abouttime5000 no i dont think so, ivars biggest goal was to be remembered, for eternity, ragnar knew that this was an accomplishment he was most likely to achieve out of all his sons (minus bjorn).. this leads me to believe that he was afraid of not being remembered

Ubbe didn’t abandon the old ways! He told him valhala is NOT FOR YOU! So by not performing the eagle he is not sending him to Valhala! He saw that the dude was not gonna make it trew the whole process of the eagle.
You’re correct. You can only enter valhalla if you die in battle, that’s what was considered an honorable death. The only way you could enter Valhalla thru a blood eagle is if you did not scream out in pain thru the entire ceremony. I guess ubbe didn’t want him to get that opportunity.
@@Kai_soze He was crying and said "no" before Ubbe even made a cut so he knew he wouldn't make it through the blood eagle and decided to show mercy and kill him quick.
@@lukebostwick1070 You hit the nail on the head! The whimpering little b*tch would never make it. Performing the blood eagle on him would only serve as an embarrassment to all vikings. Also, it saved him from obvious needless suffering. Ubbe isn't a sadist.
It didn't matter. We were done with Kattegat as soon as the last son of Ragnar (well...debatable) left (well...he's still there, isn't he?). Anyway, it was fitting and on message. Or it was terrible writing. That's ambiguity for you.
That was kinda the point. Kattegat and Viking Norway didn't matter any more. The show made it apparent that the Vikings are a dying breed. The moment Bjorn took his last breath the golden age of the Vikings was over. That's why the final scene of the series was with those who forsaken the old bloody ways in exchange for a new, more peaceful life.
Pretty sure Othere was an older version of Hvitserk. At the end when he was given the name Athelstan, which was the name Othere once had. Also Othere and Hvitserk had gotten burns from the stomach, from when Bjorn tried to kill him after the Lagertha incident. Also Othere fought very similar and very good, comparing to Hvitserk when Ubbe asked him where he learned to fight like so. Idun the goddess of eternal youth, blessed Hvisterk after relaizing his mistakes from abandoning the brother he loved most. Truly beautiful by the writers to finish together the importance of Hvitserk.
Maybe Othere was like a part of Hvitserk's soul in a way. Because Hvitserk always wanted to be with Ubbe, but also wanted to be with Ivar, He was kind of with both of them by the end. Kind of like if Othere was Hvitserk's ideal self, the way he would be if he stayed with Ubbe. He helped him find the new, great land the way their father wanted to find new land. Maybe Hvitserk after he gets baptised prays to the God for Ubbe and for his success, and the God sends Othere as a watcher/protector for Ubbe? I like to think that way.
@@topacybits3576 They were like two second shield walls later in the show, just so characters could yell "shield wall!" Early seasons were so well done. I think they focused a little less on flash and bang, and more on kinda-sorta realism.
Bit of a late comment, but the video ended up in my recommended somehow 😅 I think the reason they went away from the shield wall was because vikings never actually fought in a propper shield wall, they were more crazy, charge into battle type people. Also, their shields were to thin to withstand a shield against shield clash, and were more just for protection against arrows. I think the writers realized this and corrected their mistakes... The shield walls were fun though :)
@@danielmella4927 oh for real? never really looked up how vikings really fought haha. honestly thought they were the charge in type but after seeing season 1 I was like okay shield wall, cool. which for me gave them an edge while everyone else was just charging in. oh well. still a fun show.
Ubbe wasn't showing mercy it was exactly the opposite. He was saying he was weak so he ended his life quickly. The Viking way would have been to do the blood eagle and then he would have gone to Valhalla but Naad didn't deserve it.
Ubbe did show mercy. He knew he wouldn’t make it through the blood eagle without screaming so Ubbe just killed him quickly to save him from unnecessary pain
Exaxtly. Would he have abandoned his "ways" he would have parlaid for the murderes lite or refused to kill but leave it to the natives. At the very least he would have not insulted the victim by saying Valhalla is not for you. Rather saying something comforting like "im sorry" or "i will make it quick/no pain". Saying something like that is not really forgiving. Thats more like. "I wont give you a chance Ill send you to hell instead sucker"

The last shot of the sunrise made my jaw drop. What a beautiful scene. I confess I didn't like the show after Ragnar's sons got their revenge, but this ending made it all worth it. Just seeing Floki again was dazzling. God, I will miss this show.
Ultimately the moment Ragnar and ecbert left the show it got gradually worse. The ending was underwhelming. I mean just look at the way ragnars blood eagle was shot, the atmosphere, art direction and style was so good in those first few seasons. The acting, character development and overall plot lines are so much weaker post season 4. The sons are interesting but the plot isn’t. Gunhillde, Alfred, elsweth, Ingrid etc just arnt a compelling supporting cast. And to finish Kattegat in that weird way...not great.
True, although some episodes of season six were epic, such as Bjorn's death. I thought Gunhild was a big reason for Vikings getting good again, great character and oh so beautiful.
This could have been difficult to put into a story ...also, imagine the set-up to film the Valhalla environment ! You would need a budget like the THOR Hollywood movies ...
The Icelandic Sagas are mentioning that in the story of Valhalla, Odin is quite a picky Viking God, very picky...he allows ONLY a very few great Viking warriors, only the very best....I doubt that Ivar would have been chosen...if we wish to play along this fiction story ....

The saddest part of the ending is that Ubbe and Hvitserk are still alive and will never see each other again. Never forgiving each other. The fracture between the brothers is crushing. Imagine if they all got along?? They would have ruled Europe.
@@mark7527 The real story of Ragnarssons probably doesn't exist - remember they are legendary figures and their story can only be somewhat intepreted from various sources, some of which seem to be contradictory. If one is really generous and oversimplifying then - Bjorn ruled Sweden, Sigurd and Halfdan (Hvitserk) coruled Denmark and Danish England, Ivar parts of Ireland and the Scotish isles and coastline (Hebrides and Mann), Ubbe likely wasn't even Ragnarsson, but he was most likely jarl from Scandinavian settlement in Frisia.
I think, Ubbe just slits his throat because the guy would not be quiet, therefore the blood eagle would just be a bunch of suffering without the reward of Valhalla afterwards. Plus I loved this last season because for me it lived up to the old seasons. But I was SO disappointed that they didn't make a more epic ending with the favorite characters, showing Valhalla, etc.
I couldn't figure out what Hvitserk's game plan was. It ended beautifully with him almost smirking as though he had something up his sleeve. I wanted a bit more of a conclusion for his storyline.
I was a bit bummed that it finally ended. Great characters, Fantastic cast of actors, writing was superb and the cinematography was always very stunning. I’m surely going to miss this series. 😔
You guys completely misunderstood why Ubbe cut his throat. He asked for mercy, and thus doing so he spoke. The ritual of the blood eagle says that the defendant can only enter Valhalla if he goes thru the blood eagle in silence. He failed that rule, so Ubbe just killed him. "Valhalla is not for you..."
Just finished it. The last few seasons were too artsy and not viking enough but I still liked it and it was a good enough way to end it. Alfred bossed up, lots of poetic justice, and I just wish they didnt make Sigurd so uncool because he had such a dope name.
Late to the party, but the final season of Vikings was so disappointing for me. Truly felt like the wonderful series just fizzled out. Each happening throughout the season seemingly came out of nowhere and had little to do with any previous plot building or setup. Bjorn was disappointing, Gunhild was outta nowhere, Harald kinda made sense, Ivar’s death felt forced. The only redeeming thing seemed like it was finally figuring out what happened to Floki, alongside the final part of Ubbe’s story. Everything just felt strange and random. Super disappointing.
this series went downhill so fast. The end was ok i guess, but i believe the "real" story of all of Ragnar's sons was far better than this fantasy storyline though.
@@Hc4697 --- The real event are also on the internet.... easy to find. For example, Ivar, ( Ivarr Ragnarsson ) died in Dublin in 873, from a very sudden illness ( possibly dysentery ) , he didn't died in battle !!! He was a berserker, and not a ''crippled '' Viking Warlord !
The blue eyes don't signal that something bad will happen to Ivar... it's a sign of his bone disease and when it's at it's worse his eyes are bluer and his bones are much more brittle. Ivar was the best viking to watch as he was so unpredictable and everyone feared him. If only he had the strength of his brother bjorn. Still the best scene on vikings in my opinion is when ivor is sat against the whole army in york and hes laughing or Bjorns death. Both scenes i wish i could watch again for the first time.
he didnt stop cutting the blood eagle out of mercy, its that the thief didnt show bravery just as he started so thats why he said "valhalla is not for you" (because he was not brave) then killed him.

The last season of the show provided a nice long...sigh of satisfaction. And surprisingly enough, I crown when ivar died...even after anxiously awaiting his demise. I agree
it even did better the big selling point of GOT( anyone can die at any time , in this show that was really the case)
@Joseph Martin I thought the end of the religion of the Viking was 1066
@Joseph Martin I think vikings plays around the year 890 but there's another spin off to vikings playing 100 after that
We knew he was coming back from the beginning though. T'was obvious af!
Could all possibly coming back for the ending of the spin off Valhalla. Would make sense at the end of that show since it will actually cover the end of the Viking era
@Joseph Martin No, the viking age lasted from 793 to 1066, The show chose to show from 793 - 875 (totally messing up real history in the process.)
They literally mix the characters with other real people who had other names etc.
He did not need to be afraid, Odin was there for him
Ivar was afraid because of his heinous deeds. He was afraid that if Christianity was in fact the true way he was going to hell.

Harald Finehair had very much '' luck'' with women, he had 21 children ( and a few wives ) and we have a record of them all ... this famous phrase was added in the series , to give surely a bit of ''drama'' ....
Cause he was a fake man. Always wanting what others around him were "taking". As a man should.
In reality he had many wifes and 10 sons lmao, and his son became king... Vikings was a good show but it was very historically inaccurate...

Still can't digest that they left Ingrid to sit on the throne and rule all Norway. Greatly disappointed.
If the midget from season 1 came back to life, drowned her in a lake, and took her spot, it still would have been a better ending 😂
Ikr
yeah didn't like that the throne was left for a witch to sit on.
But the time wouldn't make sense like that, or at least ubba should have also been very old, yet the similarities you point out are quite strong, too.
Woah maybe you're onto something here...
Lol yeah, I got this too when watching it.

Early seasons were so well done. I think they focused a little less on flash and bang, and more on kinda-sorta realism.
Bit of a late comment, but the video ended up in my recommended somehow 😅
I think the reason they went away from the shield wall was because vikings never actually fought in a propper shield wall, they were more crazy, charge into battle type people.

The end was ok i guess, but i believe the "real" story of all of Ragnar's sons was far better than this fantasy storyline though.

he didnt stop cutting the blood eagle out of mercy, its that the thief didnt show bravery just as he started so thats why he said "valhalla is not for you" (because he was not brave) then killed him.

Yeah the show did a lame job with that while making Floki magically appear at the end as fan service. Really hate when writers/show runners get lazy like that 😒
No he did do the blood eagle cuz he would not stay quiet during the the blood eagle
@Sir Soma you would too dumbass, lmfao
i think him not doing it was kinda signalin an end of an era..Ubbe was a Christian and he wanted this
savage blood wars to end...similar to Flocki..i think it was the sign of a new beginnings..
with laws that compliments the land and the people they were neighbors with..
@@nigelyonismith Ubbe was never a Christian
I was hoping they went more with the historical accuracy, but it reminded me of what they did in the Walking Dead. They changed things, so you couldn't guess what was going to happen next.
Im going to agree with a comment that someone made on another post... Vikings did what game of thrones couldn't...entertain fans from beginning to end. The last season of the show provided a nice long...sigh of satisfaction. And surprisingly enough, I crown when ivar died...even after anxiously awaiting his demise. His character development from beginning to end was the most honest. He proved in the show that you didn't have to change believes in order to grow. I didn't intend to write this much, but I was really impressed...not only that but satisfied. Completely satisfied. Well done....
Vikings: Valhalla should be announced soon. Michael Hirst and Jeb Stuart are working onit together
Is that like a new series with new characters?
@@hassanahmedhassaaan4340Ye new series with new characters with the same locations, just 100 years or so later
Probably be great until a woman inevitably becomes sole ruler at the end of the show for no reason at all🤪
