    Thank you for all the support on the last video!
    In todays video I take my newly acquired 1973 Toyota Hilux for its first drive, and realize there are more issues that need addressed, so I manual transmission swap the truck!. I just purchased this truck and am super excited to get it running and back on the road for the first time in 20 years! Absolutely crazy that this 50 year old truck only took a little work to get it back on the road! If you want to see more Toyota content Like Subscribe, and follow me on social media @ redline.ranch on instagram.

    Another banger video! You do a great job of balancing all the work done and not getting hung up on filming every nuanced detail, in addition to keeping the video within that golden 25-55 minute video length. In short: you keep things moving, and 25 minutes goes by in what feels like 5 minutes.

    Too bad the government decided that we had to buy BIG $ trucks loaded down with useless crap, computers and extra turbo. If automakers could legally sell a brand new 2wd 4 cylinder manual small pickup or sedan, they would sell as many as they could make.

I immediately subscribed after watching the first video on this awesome truck and couldn't believe you didn't have at least 200k subscribers. My dad bought a brand new Toyota pickup manual with the 22re in 1992 and sold it 10 years later with 500k miles on it and it was still running strong. Ever since then I've been obsessed with these trucks. Especially pre 1995 models. Can't wait to see you blow up with this channel. It won't take long given the quality of these videos.

    Ok. I restored a different year. It was a 76’. This generation was made between 75’ and 78’. It had a few improvements. As the manual said, it had more cabin room for “ oversized American drivers”. I am 6 feet tall, and it was difficult for me to fit in there, so I can only imagine in a 74’. It came with a 20R, hemi head engine. The 76’ was the first year for front disk brakes. That being said, I drove it home from the auto delivery service, and the front end suspension and other parts were shot. Also the exhaust manifold was cracked, like I think the one in this video. ( yeah, I think it got me high on exhaust fumes on the way home. ) Had it welded. Pulled engine, and replaced all seals and fluids. Did some body work, and had it painted. Replaced all tune up parts, and minor stuff like alternator,water pump, etc. This was in 2008, so a lot of parts were being obsoleted, and were cheap. I would be glad to share some pics, but I can’t figure out how to do that here.

As far as seat swaps go, I did some quick forum research and it seems like a '90 4Runner's might be a bolt in for the 80s Hilux, unsure on the '73. Otherwise seems like you're not afraid for a little custom work so maybe looking at smaller Japanese cars from the 80s/90s/00's or a Cavalier seat swap. I know the Cavy swap was doable on S10s

    These kind of rescue & builds are much more "My speed." No tubs, 800HP engine build, $30K paint job, custom, custom-stitched baseball-glove leather interior...stuff that is just a money hole on a vehicle you can't or won't use. I've built a '76 Valiant sedan I got for $0 in the same vein; 318 fully built (340 forged crank, forged I beam rods, '90 '308' casting heads, Edelbrock intake & carb, distributor built & curved for the combo, TBS headers, etc), 2.5" dual exhaust with an X crossover, 8.75' swap with 3.23 sure grip gearing, even a factory A-833 OD stick conversion! It's received 12" rotor swap, BAC suspension & steering, FFI rear sway bar & 11.2" rear discs. Weather stripping, carpet, headliner, radio converted (looks stock, but has digital AM/FM/BlueTooth, 4-speaker output and amp hook up).
    The whole goal was to have a vintage car that can keep up with traffic, much better handling & brakes, reliable and as trouble-free as possible. It's almost where I want to to be

    Why do you Ned to swap out the automatic transmission with a manual transmission? You can have the automatic trnsmission rebuilt in less than two weeks at you local transmission shop specializing in Toyota transmission. You probably need to have you speedometer and odometer cables replaced and the odometer teeth gear replaced as well.
    PLUS......
    PLEASE UPGRADE TO THREE POINT RETRACTABLE REEL SAFETY BELTS!!!!!
    Lastly.......
    Would you consider doing an LS1 engine swap upgrade?

    • @redlineranch.
      @redlineranch.  2 месяца назад

      I swapped because I want to use the truck and the automatics rob so much power and have fewer gear options that it takes away from the capabilities, plus the manual I put in it can be used for quite a few engine swaps and will hold the power of a newer engine. and I actually already got the speedo working, the cable was just not connected
      I should for sure find some shoulder belts, as the lap belts are not very confidence inspiring.
      I've thought about a v8 but think id want to keep it pure to Toyota and do either a newer 4cyl or a Toyota v8.
