It was quite common back then (and to an extent still today) for societies to have different interpretations for words. An example would be the word "slave". In one culture and in their language the term "slave" would refer to someone that is owned by another and has no say or power over their own lives. While in another culture what the people call "slave" in their language would have the definition of being an indentured servant.

Why would the young man accept Christianity when Cliffe's argument is so weak. He's acting as if non Arabs can't understand the message of the Quran because they can't read Arabic when that's demonstrably false. The Quran has been translated into all major languages and the vast majority of Muslims are not Arabic speaking. Most of the world's greatest islamic scholars were not Arabic speaking throughout history. The reason that the original Quran in Arabic is given importance is because it is the source for all other translations. A prime example of what happens to a book when it is not preserved in the original language is the Bible, where different translations have completely different words that are used to suit certain agendas. The king James being a good example where the word "tyranny" was replaced to make the passage's meaning less pertinent to rulers and monarchs.

The Muslim guy had a very solid response. The original language allows for the original meaning to remain. The Arabic of the Quran is deeply studied and memorized by cultures across the world. The highest population of Muslims is in Indonesia. A non-Arabic speaking my country. Some of the greatest scholars of Islam did not speak Arabic as their first language.

Actually Allah should have selected another language, cause Arab in the 7th century wasn't fully developped as a writing language, and so there are 37 different Qurans, each one with different meaning for the words, cause a word written in the 7th century before the addition of the pontuation in Arab can have up to 30 different meanings. The Qur'an's language is preserved in Arabic language for the reason he just said, but also so that whoever knows the Arabic Language can teach other nations about the Qur'an, which is mentioned in the beginning of Surah Yusuf. Also the "center of Islam" can be debated based on criteria. In terms of most followers, most Muslims live in South and Southeast (Indonesia) Asia. In terms of holiest sites and countries where Islam is most practiced, then it would be the Middle East and North Africa. It is not forbidden to translate the Quran or read it from your mother tongue, it is just preserved and blessed in Arabic. Nothing more to it.

Im an atheist but as my muslim friend explains its not that you cannot understand the message unless you speak arabic. Its that the message is preserved this way and unchanging. Many muslims cant speak arabic- its not a limitation by itself. But if you wanna devote your life to study of Quran you'd better know arabic. The same way as if you wanna devote your life to study of Torah, you'd better know hebrew. That is kinda an issue with the Bible because soooo many things are lost in translation. He didn’t dismantle anything lol. He proved the other guys point. The bible got corrupted and changed by translating it from the original language to other (modern) languages. The issus is that most people don't understand Arabic has multiple English words for each language. God never came to Arabia to save just arabs/muslims. God is the Creator of all mankind and it benefits mankind to understand the words of the bible in their chosen language. I am an atheist but I was brought up in England via "Church of England" (Christian) schools and education, and what I would say about Christianity is that it promotes loving your neighbour (whoever that is), forgiveness and inclusivity. The reason why Christianity was accepted was because it was changed. It was first a one god religion and become a trinity (paganism) because everyone was worshipping multiple gods, the religion adapted and was more liked. The difference is Christianity was changed to adapt to the people but Islam has been the same for the longest time, it has been preserved in its own language but is still *growing faster than Christianity*

He is wrong. Let me explain. I'm a South Indian. In English, you love your wife and love your mom. Both cases are the same word but with different meanings. In tamil we say ANBU for love we show to mom and KADHAL for the love we show to girlfriend/boyfriend. because KADHAL means love+sex. ANBU means just love. So if you are trying to translate something from tamil, how would you differentiate the words? Just an example. Muslim original text was written in a language we know today. That does not mean the message could not be told in every language like the bible. The point was that you got no idea what is actually written in the original texts because the language they were written in was forgotten.That does not mean the message could not be told in every language like the bible.

Ive heard this same argument from practicing Jews as well. There is an enormous problem with it though; truth is still truth, regardless of who is saying it. @davids7646 easy. Look at all of the different denominations of Protestantism. Calvinists believe in original sin, eastern orthodox do not. Catholics believe in infant baptism, and Pentecostals do not. Jehovas Witnesses dont even believe in the trinity but are still considered to be Christians. I mean, the mere existence of so many denominations is proof in and of itself. If there was "only one correct truth," why would there be such disagreement between people who all claim to be Christians?

It was quite common back then (and to an extent still today) for societies to have different interpretations for words. An example would be the word "slave". In one culture and in their language the term "slave" would refer to someone that is owned by another and has no say or power over their own lives. While in another culture what the people call "slave" in their language would have the definition of being an indentured servant.

Why would the young man accept Christianity when Cliffe's argument is so weak. He's acting as if non Arabs can't understand the message of the Quran because they can't read Arabic when that's demonstrably false. The Quran has been translated into all major languages and the vast majority of Muslims are not Arabic speaking. Most of the world's greatest islamic scholars were not Arabic speaking throughout history.
The reason that the original Quran in Arabic is given importance is because it is the source for all other translations. A prime example of what happens to a book when it is not preserved in the original language is the Bible, where different translations have completely different words that are used to suit certain agendas. The king James being a good example where the word "tyranny" was replaced to make the passage's meaning less pertinent to rulers and monarchs.

The Muslim guy had a very solid response. The original language allows for the original meaning to remain. The Arabic of the Quran is deeply studied and memorized by cultures across the world. The highest population of Muslims is in Indonesia. A non-Arabic speaking my country. Some of the greatest scholars of Islam did not speak Arabic as their first language.
Yet the most accpeted version of the quran is the 1924 cairo edition. So much to as it remaining original.

The Qur'an's language is preserved in Arabic language for the reason he just said, but also so that whoever knows the Arabic Language can teach other nations about the Qur'an, which is mentioned in the beginning of Surah Yusuf. Also the "center of Islam" can be debated based on criteria. In terms of most followers, most Muslims live in South and Southeast (Indonesia) Asia. In terms of holiest sites and countries where Islam is most practiced, then it would be the Middle East and North Africa. It is not forbidden to translate the Quran or read it from your mother tongue, it is just preserved and blessed in Arabic. Nothing more to it.

Im an atheist but as my muslim friend explains its not that you cannot understand the message unless you speak arabic. Its that the message is preserved this way and unchanging. Many muslims cant speak arabic- its not a limitation by itself.
But if you wanna devote your life to study of Quran you'd better know arabic. The same way as if you wanna devote your life to study of Torah, you'd better know hebrew. That is kinda an issue with the Bible because soooo many things are lost in translation. It is literally impossible to preserve ALL meaning when translating and its even worse with the Bible because many people in the past intentionally manipulated some verses to push their own agenda (for example in the original, it is said that Eve was created from Adam's HALF, not his rib. The issus is that most people don't understand Arabic has multiple English words for each language. Nobody said you can't read the Quran without learning Arabic, but the clearest way to read it is the way it was originally. The first guy isn’t completely wrong. Reading the Bible in its original language reveals certain things that become muddied or slightly different when translated. Especially depending on the quality of translation.

He is wrong. Let me explain. I'm a South Indian. In English, you love your wife and love your mom. Both cases are the same word but with different meanings. In tamil we say ANBU for love we show to mom and KADHAL for the love we show to girlfriend/boyfriend. because KADHAL means love+sex. ANBU means just love. So if you are trying to translate something from tamil, how would you differentiate the words? Just an example. So, as I see, preserving the original language gives better incorruptible understanding. And if you love your faith so much, what's wrong in learning that original language?

Muslim original text was written in a language we know today. That does not mean the message could not be told in every language like the bible.

Jesus had to ascend to God the Father, in order to give the Holy Spirit to build his Church, of which Rome was the center of his church to protect it. That is why the bible was canonized to fight against heresies.

Ive heard this same argument from practicing Jews as well. There is an enormous problem with it though; truth is still truth, regardless of who is saying it. That includes the language the truth is spoken in.
If i have to speak another language, to know "the truth" its not true.
Truth transcends everything, including language and culture.
The better argument is, how do i understand a language like Arabic??? answer is translation again. So how is learning not a translation in my language???

If that's the case, why is there so much debate on which translation is the "correct one" or how the original Hebrew/Aramaic words were meant to be understood either historically or in a modern setting. Why is it that this "truth" you speak of has so many different understandings?

@davids7646 easy. Look at all of the different denominations of Protestantism. Calvinists believe in original sin, eastern orthodox do not. Catholics believe in infant baptism, and Pentecostals do not. Jehovas Witnesses dont even believe in the trinity but are still considered to be Christians. I mean, the mere existence of so many denominations is proof in and of itself. If there was "only one correct truth," why would there be such disagreement between people who all claim to be Christians?

As what Cliffe said in the video I will trust those people who is with Jesus when He is on ministry than a guy who came 600 years after Christ’s death. If you said that the bible is corrupt you are wrong. God is powerful He will not allow anyone to change His words. And also God loves the world that’s why the bible has a lot of language translation because His word is for the world not just to those people who only speaks Arab and understands Arabic. As for the Holy Spirit, yes! God is 3 persona in One! The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. If you tell me Jesus is not God. I don’t think so. He already said that He and The Father are one.
