    Video Transcripts:
    Okay so, our two cups of water is almost boiling. I'm going to add a heaping half teaspoon ground turmeric to that and stir it around and cover and reduce the heat to a simmer, and we'll just let that simmer for 10 minutes.
    Okay, I like turmeric tea plain, unsweetened and I like it cold, very refreshing in the summer. You can add ginger to it if you want, its fine adding other spices to it but it's got a pretty distinctive taste,
    I like it as it is. So I'm going to turn off the heat and it might be best to let this settle for a bit because you don't want the residue, but I’m going to use the following tea strainer here and I’m just going to pour this, and if you find that the strength of it is too strong for you, you can just dilute it with water. That's good, that's filtering out all the residue. Let me get a spoon.
    And that’s turmeric tea!

    I make a turmeric paste with distilled water. This is stored in my fridge as a concentrate and is used 1 teaspoon at a time. I like to mix a teaspoon into a cup of warmed almond or soy milk and just a drop or 2 of honey, during the cold winter months. This is know as "Golden Milk". It's especially good right before bedtime, it's so soothing and comforting.

    So glad that I read the comments. Just read something relating to the question I was going to ask so my post will be shorter :). I'm using turmeric root, the root, and fresh ground black peppercorns and wondering if I should simmer the pepper with the turmeric root or add after. Anyone have experience with his?
    Also, I think Dr. Weil does know about the efficacy of the black pepper with turmeric, but is keeping it simple for all generic turmeric tea uses, therapeutic as well as casual tea drinking enjoyment.

  • @hmwoodring

      And you prefer this recipe cold you said?

    • @hmwoodring
      @hmwoodring 10 лет назад +2

      Dark6star We prefer it cold as we generally have hot Do-Matcha tea in the mornings. Another interesting point is how long this stays good in the refrigerator. Some time ago our turmeric/ginger/pepper tea mixture got pushed to the back and forgotten for months as we have two containers usually. Opened it up and it was as good as the day we made it. Consuming this with an anti-inflammatory diet and, of course, home-made sauerkraut and we may just see 120 or so.

    • @hmwoodring
      @hmwoodring 10 лет назад

      matteo4m Agreed. Interestingly enough, the added ground pepper doesn't make the tea a total pepper extravaganza. And I add at least six good twists of course ground. It all balances out very tastily. It has such a clean and refreshing aftertaste.

    • @valnaples
      @valnaples 10 лет назад +1

      matteo4m Yes, have also read the research about piperine in the ground black pepper improving the uptake in our bodies for the turmeric! Doc might mention it in the next video! :-) Edit: and I think the first place I learned about the piperine & curcumin was on his website! hee!

  • @TheDajoca
    @TheDajoca 4 года назад +8

    Oil can help with increased absorption, but black pepper (piperine) increases curcumin absorption by up to 2000%.
    Curcumin is the main important part and is only ever about 2% of the total weight of turmeric.

I love the way it naturally taste, one day I tried to drink it so fast because it tastes so good, and it wasn't the best results I'll just say😷. But now that you describe the residue that make perfect sense, now I am man enough to try it again tomorrow. Because it does taste and smell pretty great, I never knew that it tastes like that and smell that great by itself. I brought it originally to mix it with honey and lemon to fight off my third case of pneumonia in 20 years, this was my first time ever using it and it really helps suppress my cough. I just happened to fall in love with the smell of the turmeric and taste itself😊.

    I heard that black pepper helps the absorption of some of the compounds in turmeric by up to 2000%! That is an incredible number. When I make this tea I put in some freshly ground black pepper and it was very spicy! I put some honey in it to mellow out the spice but it is still very bold! I would say it's almost on par with a weak jalapeno

    Is there any particular reason to have it simmer for ten minutes? Does this somehow improve the health benefit of turmeric? And does removing the grit by straining serve any health purpose? I put it in teas and drinks as is, don't simmer it for ten minutes and don't mind the fine grit quality at all. Am I "doing it wrong" in terms of not getting maximum health benefit from the turmeric that way? Please answer if you can. Thank you!!

      I never ever boil turmeric with water
      I grind turmeric with ginger with ground pepper with lemons or limes juice
      And this stays in the fridge for 24 hours
      Every time I boil water first and add mixed ingredients into drinking cup
      Over boiling removes health benefits

    Just put some of the root in your green smoothie. That way, you get all of the health benefits of the turmeric root. Heat diminishes its' nutrients.

      That's why I add my turmeric paste to almond or soy milk with a little bit of raw honey. It tastes great! I didn't strain it until just recently, what a difference! Hated the grit that comes with turmeric. But whatever works best for you to incorporate it into your diet. :)
