  • In1982 Marilyn and I began our journey to create a previously unknown high end market for tequila, it was with Chinaco. Chinaco became the first high end marketed 100% agave tequila.
    We created El Tesoro de Don Felipe, with Don Felipe and his son, Carlos, in 1988 when we could not get enough Chinaco to meet our growing demand. The two tequilas were entirely different in flavor and region. However, both were exceptional quality.
    These two brands were the sole catalyst for the whole high end tequila category and rage.
    This video was made in 1992, at La Alteña Distillery,, Don Felipe's agave fields, the bottling hall and the aging cellars, in and nearArandas, in the Los Altos Region of the State of Jalisco. At the time of this video this distillery had no electricity, nor any real need for it. Everything was done by hand.
    The purpose of the video was to educate distributor sales people about this ground braking artisan tequila. It was literally made in a travel back in time.
    Remember, we are tequila people, not film makers.

    This is magnificent to watch now in 2024… video was 1992 so that makes it 32 years old. A real trip back in time. So interesting to watch this and then more recent videos of how it’s being made today (what is similar and what has changed). Particularly interested in the story part here and the role the Denton’s played in creating the established market for additive free tequila we have today. How neat would it be to try a bottle made around 1992 and compare to an El Tesoro blanco made in 2024… Thank you for posting this!!

    The "Maestro Tequilero" inside the mezcal barrel looks like he doesn't want to know anything about Tequila anymore. He is adding the "extra-anejo" flavor to the mix.

    The Mexican American affair about Tequila has its history up to the point that today the US is the No 1 consumer. There is no much wood in Mexico so Tequila makers started to buy barrels to the Americans. Since used barrels were cheaper American noticed that Tequila aged was a very superior spirit. The way got perfection when noticed that a single variety of plant, 100% agave and artisan methods were the simple key to produce the best spirit of the world. A great example of many of the win to win business and cultural experiences that Americans and Mexicans have potentiality to enjoy if they are smart enough to put aside bigotry, pride and arrogance.

      @guadalupejog 7 лет назад

      Arturo Perez Gracias Arturo por preguntarme mi opinion. Me gustan los q se esmeran en mantener sus procesos con algo d lo artesanal como Don Felipe-Tapatio Los Abuelos, 7 Leguas Herradura, Corzo?Don Julio? Para cocteleria Pueblo Viejo, Centinela, 100 anos-Centenario Milagro, Altos Sangre Altena, Viva MEX, Don Nacho. Casi mas los altenos por su toque a Tierra roja, vainilla y citricos. Saludos
