After so many years she went to her Villa in the South of France wear she became more pious and eventually entered a Carmelite nunnery . She apparently was a model of purity in her old age, still wrote letters to her children. The king thow felt her the most cruel blow. When she died not only did the king forbid his and Madames children from attending her funeral but he forbid them to publicly morn her passing in any way
The best book I've ever read about that aspect of the Sun King's life was "Love and Louis XIV: The Women in the Life of the Sun King" by Antonia Fraser. Louis XIV was lavish with court life and his mistresses, but that set up the course of events that lead to the future revolution.
I feel like at some point Louis resented DeMontespan for growing old. Like he put on her the anger he felt with losing his own vigor. And Maintenon helped him get comfortable with his own mortality with her more calm, simple nature.
De Montespan was horribly miscast in the Versailles tv show. Jesus Christ. She has no elegance whatsoever, even in the brief mute clips shown here. She’s just slouching, looking horrified to be here. Yikes. And then there’s the queen, who is truly regal and mesmerizing ❤️
Oh I disagree. I thought Anna Brewster was a wonderful choice. A stunning beauty, and she did a good job. There were maybe one or two moments I thought they got wrong. When she introduced herself to Liselotte for example, the way she pronounced her own name was pretty bad. But all in all, I thought it was a lovely performance.
She flew too close to the Sun King.
Good one.

Strange the King had seven children with her & didn’t even attend her funeral.

How pious is it to have a relations with a debauched king you are trying to save, what an absolute hypocrite
Nice! 👌
Great information. What is the movie playing in the video?
Versailles series.
I was gonna ask too....I recognised Athelstan from Vikings lol
It’s the series Versailles on Netflix. I absolutely love that show
Absolutely atrocious casting of De Montespan though 😵💫
@@domi_marshal Agree. She looks like a fricking skeleton.

Yes a Chateaux!😂
Why a photo of a french actress?

Agree. She's much too skeletal to be truly beautiful.
