Also purchasing market items was locked for players outside KR. spreading news should include this kinds of details. Addressing botting issue, quick reminder that one kr account was about 0.2$-1$, their system using kr IDs failed significantly which does not mean that it will be the same for West release.
Mute point. As he then explained... The investors saw this as a red flag. Also this was also in reference to Q4. Financial fiscal years are often broken down into 4 quarters. But I get it... Cope.
I mean you make it seem like NC soft doesn't have a good game though? with guild wars 2 is amazing. The only biggest gripe I have with GW2 is when they brought it to steam you CAN NOT transfer your data. and I have like 50k hours on it. no way will I start over.
@@sumireravenclaw8034 GW2 was developped by ArenaNet and not NCSoft who was only the editor. Although NCSoft owns ArenaNet, ArenaNet is completely independant and that is why GW2 is the only game that has an NCSoft tag on it but it's not P2W garbage. ArenaNet is an american company btw
GW2 is published by NC. I'd say it might not matter as much any more. Considering it's Amazon who will do our version, it will (hopefully) have way less p2w issues.
Botting is made worse when a game is free to play. The best MMOs in the space have buy to play + subscriptions or some variation of that. Even though bots still exist in those games, they are significantly less prevalent than F2P games. MMO players have shown over the years that they’re willing to pay as long as the game puts the content out. FF14, WoW, OSRS (specifically member areas), GW2 (specifically in the expansion areas), ESO and BDO are massively successful and all have an underlying similarity: buying into the game or paying monthly creates a barrier of entry for botting accounts. Doesn’t negate them entirely but enough so that it does not destroy their game.
Problem is, theres nothing really to do in the game. Open world pvp isnt really that, its bosses basically and whoever had the most people wins and thats it. Its not skill based its zerg based and its boring.
doubt it, they went on record saying they're relying on Amazons western release of this game. If it doesn't release in the west it will be bc amazon cancelled on them.@@DarkepyonX
This seems like a win for western audiences. If the Korean side isn't performing well then they probably want to focus on the western launch and appealing to western gamers. Great.
Not likely. None of the top played games in the west, as far as I know, use such a trash upgrade system like the asian developers love putting into their games. Those all end up failing and falling way down to the bottom of the trash pile.
I think this seems to be a very good indication that if you want to make your game about competition, you need to make that competition be won by player skill.
If the game has wider appeal globally and severely tones down the P2W, I wouldn't be surprised that its revenue numbers were lower than the competition in Korea. This is fine as long as it's enough to tide them over and keep the investments going through the global release.
AFAIK, the P2W is actually severely limited already compared to most MMOs (especially korean ones). The market is powered by premium currency, but there is only like 1 actual "buff" in the store that you can buy for money, and it's not a buff so much as a removal tool for a debuff. That is most likely getting removed in the global version, meaning the only thing people can buy with money are things other users have actually farmed in-game, which gives those users the premium currency directly rather than having it disappear into some void. Basically WoW tokens, if they were the only currency instead of gold.
@@Daktyl198 as soon as a game has the tiniest bit of p2w it is 100% going to get worse over time. it means the dev/publisher dont have that non p2w philosophy and only tone it down to attract more players. once the game has a healthy player base or even worse, is dying out, those sweet dollar signs appear in their eyes and p2w gets increased. hoping for something else this time is extremely naive. no offense. since its free to play i might even download it and try to get a few hours of fun out of it, but hoping for the next big mmo you can treat as a second life for many years would be dumb.
@@tNuOcCaFrUmS Almost every online game is P2W these days, at this point it's either deal in degrees of separation, or don't play online at all. That's a valid choice, but I prefer to play games and just not interact with the P2W personally.

Long response, we expect them to keep most, if not all, of the monetization systems as they are. We hope for small modifications to make them more fair, but not much. How bad is the P2W? Opinions may vary, but it's not as bad as many claim it to be. • The subscription / battlepass let you progress faster, but well within the current expected margins of a F2P MMO with optional sub • You can buy shit from the market with $, but for that someone has to sell it first, so whales will be gated by people actually obtaining and be willing to sell stuff. • In the current KR game state, most BiS gear is obtained via dungeons, and it isn't tradable. And what is tradable, is so rare barely anyone will sell it, and for a lot of money. • Some gear/skill enhancement materials are gated behind gameplay, even if you pay for everything else • Traits are the main P2W pain point. They have a considerable effect in power, and are the main thing people will sell on the marketplace. However, they've been implementing changes to make it easier for F2P/Sub players to get them, and we expect these to be in global from the beginning • At this point in KR, lots of F2P players are fully geared up, traits included, 3 months after they released a new tier of gear, and the trait improvements released last month I think
"you need multiple duplicate of this gear". yup this guy didnt play the game at all. YOu dont need the exact same item to upgrade the trait. you can use lower grade item, to upgrade your trait with 10% chance. and you can use the same grade weapon (not the same exact item) to add new trait

I've been following this game's development for several years now. It's been very exciting to see these developments. That said, do I gather correctly that TL will be a high octane mega guild game? So far it strikes me that if you're not in large guild you will likely get steamrolled often. I truly hope I am wrong here because joining a large guild and dealing with the leadership politics never sits well with me. I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on this matter.
Korean devs always fumble this by not releasing the global version simultaneously. Its genuinely 1/2 the reason these fail bc they comes to the west 5-10years later when its completely outdated.
@@FabricateFrogeven if they only wait 6 months to release globally, the real issue is that from that point on the global market is X months behind the korean version. and nothing gets changed between patch releases. so the global market (being X months behind korea) already know all the content coming out; already know the min/max class combos; and, sadly, hackers/exploiters already know which cheats/exploits work in that current patch.
Just played a West Closed Beta and to be honest there is no better MMO on the Market now. Game is "Pay to Progress" not "P2W" because of Battle Pass Rewards. Game looks amazing and i cant wait for a Global Launch ! As ex Lineage 2 player i had much fun !
It had all the AFK and auto-play because that's what is sells in Korea, where they spend much less time sitting down with games and more time playing them on the move. In the west it's entirely different. Developers need to understand that they can't market a game to the east and west without changing to match the climate and expect to be successful.
That's the only true comment here. They knew that game will be burned after lunch (especially in Korea) because whales there don't like to play - they love autoattack. I'm pretty sure that NC will turn it down in the same moment when they get their invested money back.
I disagree about westerners not wanting auto farm. As a Lineage player, I like that I can go to work, come back, do stuff around the house, spend time with my kid or help the wife while I can put my char do 1 hour session(instance) or 3 hours session or just let him on the map somewhere in a pack of mobs. You can do the fun stuff when you play active, like PvP, Sieges, Olympiads(or pvp arena) and the borring grind stuff can let it auto farm. I think for most people with stuff to do and with a certain age, autofarm is the only way to play an MMO. And as said, not only in the East, but America, Europe, Russia etc I think most who complained about it either have too much free time or just want it removed so they can bot autofarm and have an advantage over others.
Why is this sad? Feels like a reason to create content just because... It makes total sense for them to be counting on the Amazon Global Release. It's freaking Global for a reason. L2 was massively popular in Korea, true, but let's not forget it also did very well in Western markets.
I played the game in January and it was very fun I even considered to buy premium version on wester release, or pack or whatever its called. I hope on western release there will not be bots. They are dropping the prices on the market down very much.
Great Review/update. Thanks for the content. I am going to play it regardless -- I miss the guild-driven days of Lineage II and this an itch I have to scratch.
Woah! Congrats on the 1 million subs, Force 🤩 - I've been mega swamped and fallen off being up to date with following your output recently, so missed whenever you hit the threshold! So well deserved. Keep up the amazing work and I look forward to when I can be freer again XD
I imagine some designer at NCSoft sitting in their office, smug and exasperated, saying "I told you so." lol Hopefully they can get the botting under control. While I understand the reasoning behind it, I usually dislike game systems that more or less validate cheating techniques (like built-in autoplay vs current cheating bots dilemma). Here's hoping they can get it under control, but cheaters never really go away, they just get a new tool.
To be honest, most mmo companies have complete control over botters. Just not in the way the players want. They let botters buy account. Let them play a while. Do a banwave. Cash in on botters buying more account. Wait a bit. Do a banwave. Etc. Etc. It's all about money. Most companies could give a shit about the influence botters have on their game.
I had no idea about this game and with rumors of a guild wars 3 just recently, this is literally the exact image i had mind. I hope they can make this work because I like the art and vibe of this, It's got that bdo style which I feel is closer to gw1 than what gw2 is.

I don’t think this game was directed for the Korean market, but more geared towards the global market. Also, when does ncsoft fiscal year start and end? It may have ended before the game release in December. Which is partially why it wasn’t mentioned. As of right now, they could release what they have, which is actually pretty good. But the either need to release the game in early Q2 or late Q2. They can’t wait till Q4
Total nonsense, the west hates garbage games like this. Why the hell would they choose to lose money by publishing it in a region they don't care about.

For me the game died before release. They sold us in those teasers back then a good competitor for Black Desert. On those teasers you could see what it looked like some good action combat, but turned out to not be action combat, and also one of the worst combats ever.

I'm surprised new MMOs are still being developed honestly. What made them fun and engaging was the novelty of online play and community. Given online multiplayer is a norm across most games, what does the traditional MMO bring to the table? ... sub par combat and narrative, as well as usually aggressive monetization. I loved MMOs years ago, but I just don't see a new one being successful without a substantial degree of innovation.
The game is so grindy, lots of bots, and even more of a grind. After that grind, there's something else to look forward to though! More grinding! I put in 100 hours, it feels like I just spun my wheels and went nowhere.
Welll thats Korean MMOS! once you grind to the top, you PvP.....and noone in the USA wants to pvp because theyre all noobs lmfao. too bad ill be playing the hell out of this
Actually still looking forward to this, in a hopefully improved version of Black Desert. The botting is a concern, particularly with how poorly it was handled by Amazon with Lost Ark.
The game was doomed the moment they mentioned mobile crossplaform for me. No way a game that was being developed with mobile as a priority would succeed in a PC market thats way more strict in terms of the final product quality, no changes can fix this, just close the game and make a new one with PC as a priority from the start.
The only way to make this game good is let it die by itself by not playing it. Either the dev will do a big move for us, or they will hide forever and set us free
I’m disagree. All the MMORPG in market have p2w monetization (including WoW, the most successful game release in this gender). This game is amazing, they just need to figure out how to kill bots.
Sword of Legends had too many issues but p2w wasn't one. They had cosmetic monetization and people still complained because the outfits (the only thing that would keep the game afloat) were $20. I really think people want everything free.
@@mrfish229 some ppl for sure, but those would be silenced if you have great gameplay, your cosmetics can be overpriced and your playerbase will throw money at you, ie Path of Exile with armour costing even 60+ (fusion ones where you merge 2 'cheaper' ones).
I started BDO a couple of years ago thinking it would be a placeholder MMO while I waited for something better to come out, but uhh idk maybe it’s just the MMO now
I think the action combat and graphics/effects are top tier, even among most games out there. However, the progression curve becomes extremely steep relatively quickly. But there’s lots to do and it’s easy to go off on different tangents, and I actually enjoy that aspect. That being said, I think the game is best enjoyed casually when you have a few hours you want to turn your brain off…. But that might just be me considering I have other things going on in my life I often would rather do.

Honestly, if the game is not earning as much as expected in Korea, it means it’s not p2w enough for Koreans. Currently playing the game on kr server, I gotta say the game is actually becoming less and less p2w with each update. Its problem might actually be that in this game if whales pay to speed up the progress they might end up with nothing to do faster, while players like me keep grinding and even earning premium currency buy selling stuff are actually enjoying the game much more. So once more whales maxing out their gears, they have nothing more to spend money on.
fair points most ppl won't bother to learn or read. The only issue I don't like is bots, Idc about the little p2w that exists. Eh, they're actually very different games. Lost Ark was all about PvE raids, with some pretty brutal progression systems. This is much more about PvP and guild vs guild.
9:00 almost p2w? Even if the BIS item is gated by endgame actvity, it still is P2W, not because you spend money but because MMO is a race. The whales get there first and monopolize, if you aren't a whale you aren't accepted in their guilds, leaving you struggling. I have seem this happen enough times.
Great vid! On the side note tho, the comparison between Lucent and Gold(Lost Ark) is a bit off, since you do earn gold for most in-game activities in Lost Ark, I'd say it is hard to compare both systems since Lost Ark has Royal Crystals(only real money exchange currency) that then can be sold for gold that buys most stuff in-game.
I actually can't wait for the global release, hopefully goes off smoothly, like the changes they've made and I've been itching for a new mmo to get into

@@user-to1su2iy4d NCSoft has a history of P2W, but botting is an MMO issue in general. WoW has tens of thousands of bots daily. GW2 has bots as well, they're just less obvious since most of what you do in GW2 isn't farming in a single area (unless they're AFK farming, which is very easy to spot), and it's a very single-player experience game as a whole. Not much paying attention to other people in general. Every western MMO has bots, and every Korean MMO has even more bots because they skimp on the anticheat due to their requirement of ID to play games over there. Bots aren't an NCSoft issue, they're an online game problem.
I wouldn't underestimate the game being released through Amazon. New World actually did pretty decent and is still doing well. T&L may be okay in the end.

DO NOT TOUCH IT. Resist. It's a pile of hot dung that got called out for being hot dung, and they've cooled it off a bit and polished it. At it's core, it's still...dung. I repeat, DON'T FALL FOR IT!!
I would still play this, it’s nice to have a new mmorpg and grind a little. Most games have taking out the grind element to really make you’re character powerful.
But the premium currency only allows you to purchase something that another player crafted or got through a drop, its not like theres a specific game made store that sells you the top end gear without player interaction, you are buying gear from other people it's not the same.
Whats the sad reality? Game is doing well for me and it has huge potential even killing wow capturing the mmo market why? You can play 5000 players pvp without server or gamecrash(aslong as you have good pc) Pvp is endgame for every mmo lets hope amazondont fuck this up
You are correct about lucents, which you can use to buy gears available in the market. However, even if you spend thousands or millions of real money in this game, an F2P player can still deal lethal damage or even kill you in PVP. Basically, you are buying progress, but in PVP, it wouldn't make that much of a difference. I am an F2P player, and I can compete and win against P2W players. The game is balanced between P2W and F2P players. Luck and diligence create a huge difference between players. The more you grind, the more chances you have of acquiring items that you can sell in the market. Like I said, I'm an F2P player, but I acquired and spent 50k lucents on my character (Not just me, but also the people in our guild). Again, I didn't pay any real money. You can acquire lucents without spending any money - join World boss, dungeons, and kill monsters that drop precious items. The only problem in this game is the LAG FEST, especially during MASSIVE PVP WAR. It appears the game is not fully optimized to handle MASSIVE PVP, although they are continuously improving it. Lastly, the game is not earning as expected because you DON'T REALLY NEED TO USE REAL MONEY to be strong in the game. The way they designed the game is in favor of F2P players. Note: Kanon's review sucks. He's a noob in the game and did nothing but cry and complain about almost everything. He left and quit after a few weeks. People hated him in the game - like 80% of the server despised him.

They should add road stops to MMO's you get checked in some way... and if there is no response, some way to surely know someone is human... you get flagged/disabled or someshit and them some process plays out to potentially ban. (this is not an exact thought, more so a general baseline)
It’s not too hard to have a check for that with bots, would make it slightly more difficult to make a bot but it wouldn’t solve the problem, unfortunately
This game was one of those "just ship what we have and get what we can out of it" situations. NCsoft is struggling and doesn't have the capital to invest in endless development.
Do you think it could have fallen short in korea because the systems they got rid of were mostly popular there? It looked like it was just going to be a BDO clone tbh but I can see how if that experience is your norm, not having it would lead to a bad launch in a place where the only people playing it are the ones who have experience in/want to see that system that they removed. I think this could be a good sign
I was on the fence about trying out this game when it releases in the US, but this video put a hard stop to that, 0% chance I play this game now. All these issues you mentioned, along with the fact that it's a primarily PvP game, nah this game ain't for me, thanks for cutting through the bullshit and giving an honest opinion of the game. Built in autobot is actually a great feature in MMO. We know how tedious the daily quests are, having the option to autobot through tedious dailies while chilling with youtube or world/guild chat is one of the best thing I can do in MMO. Besides, forcing players to hand play 1-2 hours through tedious dailies makes the game die faster than ever.
Was hyped for the game until it didn’t release globally and there’s no point looking into more about when there still is no guaranteed launch date… also was hoping the combat would be more BDO in terms of the aoe attacks and larger groups of enemies. Also does the game have area specific unique loot you can find from farming mobs? Or special items from fishing?
Just interesting fact, other NCsoft game Lineage 2M, have auto-hunt, BUT! It was full of bots elf archers, attacking one mob. I think someone from NCsoft sell bot programmes, because it so massive. And bots are almost from launching date.
If they intend to continue going down the line they are currently in KR, Then the game will end up in the EXACT same position that Lost Ark is currently in which will be major RMT issues along side with bots and then the blatant P2W in regards to the trait system along with the ability to literally swipe for the most relevant items to complete your build etc. Amazon will not solve these issues given their track record to say the least, Its a shame cause TNL still have a lot of potential but I cant say I see things being resovled as it stands.
Korean game companies usually release their games in Korea first, and only after a year, they release them worldwide. This can be annoying for players in other countries. People wonder why everyone can't get the game at the same time. This way, players from other countries end up playing the game later than Korean players. And it's not clear why they do this, but it often makes players from other countries unhappy. This delayed release might also affect how well the game does outside of South Korea.
You are late with the news. They have implemented a new anti bot system that have completely wiped out the bots in the game. That has been reported by people that ACTUALLY PLAY THERE.
If they rewrote all of those features you said they did that is why in Korea it is doing poorly. Korean players are used to automatic systems and such the changes are geared towards North American and European players who don't like all the auto features.
I suspect that they will undo the changes that allow you to buy stuff that can be converted to the in-game currency. For the global release. As that was done specifically to appease the Korean p2w whales in their market. That will funnel people into playing the dungeon content more and less so with botting for premium currency. Also, if they remove the premium currency reward from rankings. Instead, reward a buff accessible once per 24hrs based on guild rank. Which increases dungeon/raid drop rates and/or crafting success rates. Which can be lost when killed (making bot farms risky with how areas can randomly become a pvp zone). You'd have a reward system that gets people to play the game more. Without an incentive to bot in the open world. Also, having a gm simply turn areas with botters into a pvp event. Would really help sort the issue. By rewarding active players to cleanse the bots themselves. Thoughts on my ideas?
Well, I don't think they removed the internal botting feature, they just disabled it for casual players, AS PLAYERS asked for. On the other side I can tell you that without bots, many items would be not attainable or much more expensive, so game as it is hard to progress from a certain point would be IMPOSSIBLE to progress. Well, there is more advantage to swiping in the beginning, as it gives an advantage of maybe 1-2 months, and this power will remain, and you can farm early on the best items, and lock out others forever, as it is impossible to keep up at any time. Getting Lucent by playing and selling stuff is a good idea, which only works in the beginng, as by now most BiS trais on blue and all BiS trais on green are practically worthless and do not sell even for lowest price. Marinds and growthstone base juwels are also very low now, which is good if you want to swipe and actually have the lucent, but not if you want to sell and earn some.... After 3 months there is missing the "future path" for many things....
I mean what did people expect??? This was suppoused to be another crack at LINEAGE (now cross-platform but primary mobile) license before they re-branded. This is basically cross-plat Lineage 3 - if people know how L2 and L1 played they would not be as hyped.
I have a lot of hours on TNL, what kills the game is 0 end game content besides dailies, you get your 3 daily dungeons, and 10 contracts. Every other activity gives you laughable rewards ( that are also time gates) to progress your character. They force a swipe.
If they don’t stop bots: I won’t play. If there is a hint of P2W: I won’t play. I hope a lot of the gaming community feels the same with the goal being devs adjusting.
That's probably why they are talking about relying on Amazon's global release to save the game. Amazon has shown a history of toning down pay to win and making games more approachable to the western audience. That's probably also why it's taking so long to come out. Amazon really has their work cut out for them, trying to get a game that isn't making money in Korea to make money in places that hate P2W

ABSOLUTELY THIS! City of Heroes? Wildstar?? Anyone???
So if it failed in KR this might actually be good for as seeing as its literally the opposite with maple/dfo/lost ark over there.
If it fails they won't release it elsewhere period , Asia market is massive.
Problem is, theres nothing really to do in the game. Open world pvp isnt really that, its bosses basically and whoever had the most people wins and thats it. Its not skill based its zerg based and its boring.

@@bobbydigital42069they got rid of the autoplay??
@@Daktyl198 as soon as a game has the tiniest bit of p2w it is 100% going to get worse over time. it means the dev/publisher dont have that non p2w philosophy and only tone it down to attract more players. once the game has a healthy player base or even worse, is dying out, those sweet dollar signs appear in their eyes and p2w gets increased. hoping for something else this time is extremely naive. no offense.

How bad is the P2W? Opinions may vary, but it's not as bad as many claim it to be.
• The subscription / battlepass let you progress faster, but well within the current expected margins of a F2P MMO with optional sub
• You can buy shit from the market with $, but for that someone has to sell it first, so whales will be gated by people actually obtaining and be willing to sell stuff.
• In the current KR game state, most BiS gear is obtained via dungeons, and it isn't tradable. And what is tradable, is so rare barely anyone will sell it, and for a lot of money.
• Some gear/skill enhancement materials are gated behind gameplay, even if you pay for everything else
• Traits are the main P2W pain point. They have a considerable effect in power, and are the main thing people will sell on the marketplace. However, they've been implementing changes to make it easier for F2P/Sub players to get them, and we expect these to be in global from the beginning
• At this point in KR, lots of F2P players are fully geared up, traits included, 3 months after they released a new tier of gear, and the trait improvements released last month I think
Tbh. All the features and mechanics of this game sound great! The focus on guild is a nice change to all these single player mmos lol.

NC Soft not releasing this at the same time killed this for global. Theres no more hype.

If I ever make a game I'm going to ask to sample the opening second of this video for an NPC dialogue

What about Blue Protocol? Still no mention of a global release date
I’m disagree. All the MMORPG in market have p2w monetization (including WoW, the most successful game release in this gender). This game is amazing, they just need to figure out how to kill bots.
Ditch the pay to win and just focus on pay 4 look and pay 4 new classes, western market won, nc soft saved.

Never play a Korean online game. How have people not learned this?

I would still play this, it’s nice to have a new mmorpg and grind a little. Most games have taking out the grind element to really make you’re character powerful.

Amazon will not solve these issues given their track record to say the least, Its a shame cause TNL still have a lot of potential but I cant say I see things being resovled as it stands.
so if TL will have the same problem in the west,i have at least The First Descendant
First Descendant is crap, TL is great.
It is very much like lineage 2 with the gameplay feeling, but much improved.
13:26 what's his id / platform ?
Korean game companies usually release their games in Korea first, and only after a year, they release them worldwide. This can be annoying for players in other countries. People wonder why everyone can't get the game at the same time. This way, players from other countries end up playing the game later than Korean players. And it's not clear why they do this, but it often makes players from other countries unhappy. This delayed release might also affect how well the game does outside of South Korea.
Great vid
If it's not making money in Korea it's gonna make less here with those P2W mechanics
