Please take your time making this game. This game has potential, I don't want it to run like how messy and buggy Ark runs
Probably best to compare it to their existing title. Conan Exiles, which is on Unreal 4 and this is Unreal 5. I expect similarities, which is fine. I just hope the total scope of this title is much larger so it can be deserving of the MMO title they are tagging it with.

It's a completely different studio, Funcom takes care of its games, Conan Exiles is a perfect example.

We can take bets that it will bomb. It looks generic, not like a Dune game. And, if this is Unreal 5, the 3d models, anims, are bloody awful, for such a team size

there is not a single game planned using the new tech they showed in the demo, maybe death stranding 2 will.

It reminds me of the golden age of Star Wars Galaxies; exploring, fighting for survival, meeting allies, collecting valuable weapons and resources. I have such fond memories, it would be fun to revisit that type of game. I hope Dune: Awakening is fulfilling in this aspect.
The devs mentioned that SWG was an inspiration, pretty cool as I still play on several swg emu's

No.. they don't look good, they look okay at max.. There are two good Dune movies now, the best vision of the Books i can imagine.. just take the Designs from the Movies.. they are universes better.
love what it looks like so far? there hasnt been a single gameplay shot from ingame. these are all pure cinematic renders and actually show nothing at all from the real game xD please dont hype yourself about something we havent even seen yet ffs

Harkonnen, Spice Smuggler, Atreides, Bene Treilax clone, other less house, Fremen or person from Arrakis
based on the twitch stream Q&A they did, you get to pick that at creation.
But apparently no Fremen zealot allowed. Maybe we can be water stealers at least.
Fremen won't be at the beginning of the game. And this is supposedly a prequel to Dune Part 1... they said they wanted the game out and playable around the release of part 1, but had to delay.

The sandworms looked different from the first trailer these look more like the book design
Joel said in the interview that there are "ring mouth" sand worms deeper out in the desert. These ones are closer to civilization and smaller.

I honestly hope it's more than that. Exiles was a good survival game, but it didn't push the genre forward. This should be the next step, or else it makes no sense to call it a Survival MMO. Dune as a setting offers some great gameplay potential that wasn't there with the Conan setting and vice versa.

Im seeing a distinct lack of melee when dune was super big on melee
Dune: Awakening will have different approaches to combat, with melee being one of them.
It does seem odd that a setting where melee combat is the primary form of combat had a lot of dudes walking around with 'generic scifi gun'.
@@Dekartzthose shots can be avoided with the right power 😉. Also those guns aren’t generic. They were also featured and modeled similar to the 1984 Lynch Dune film.

@@DekartzMelee exists because of shields. Shields drive worms into a killing frenzy on Arrakis. Lasers, and firearms are actually common. But so are blades.

I miss Anarchy Online. I sometimes imagine a true sequel in a modern engine. But then I awaken.
That game didn't have the best graphics, but the atmosphere was amazing. Especially when there were actual players running around, going about their days. It felt like you lived in a living, breathing world. Player-made and procedural quests were such a unique concept to me as a kid. The dark, cold tone of the corporate city (Omega?) hasn't been recreated in any sort of medium and it sucks!

@@FoetusInYourNoodles Yeah nothing was more fun than raiding the opposite city. I used to go into the clan city and kill the guards on my nanotechnician and the clan would leave me alone because it was so rare to see anyone do it. :D

Yeah, been waiting and hoping for a proper updated version for years. I joined AO pretty late and it was my first MMO. The community and the depth of tweaking were the best things about the game. Asking people for buffs so you could get your next implant or nano to work and hanging around Borealis trying to sell my loot and crafted armors. Oh the memories.
@@preacher3670 I used to do a kiting hecks service to power level people. It always used to amaze people to see kiting 50+ inferno hecklers and them popping them all at once for huge xp. The PVP was some of the best mmo PVP I played.

Yes and if they made you Desert-walk everywhere you'd complain. If they offered Fast Travel you'd complain. If they made it to where the Ornithopter was accessible at lower levels you'd complain. Point is: you'd complain. Stop complaining about obvious QOL changes to canon (which, btw there ARE ground vehicles in the Dune Universe)
@@TheHoggsterProAnd if they did you'd complain that Guns were OP. And if they weren't you'd complain that shooting someone with a shield doesn't cause an atomic explosion or summon worms because then the game would be boring.
BTW, Dune part 2, the movie, is awesome, probably the best of the year even though its still March

The server side tech will be interesting. I hope they have some kind of server meshing comparable to Star Citizen, so the "world" can really be a WHOLE planet with all players on the same planet. That would be a next step in MMO development and gaming.
If we are at the stage of directs every month or two and ongoing betas I’m hopeful we will see this released this year 😬

Conan Exiles has a very special place in my heart. I truly hope that UE5 brings the performance gains we needed in Conan to this game. Can't wait to give it a go.
compared to ark Conan Exiles ran absolutely amazing. But so far UE5 is looking to be a major drop in performance, each game on it has been decently heavy...

actually its not really known yet how exactly the game will play out. best to wait for actuall gameplay footage instead of getting yourself horny over some cinematics that say nothing about the game itself

This has so much potential its nuts. I love Dune so please take your time with this game. If you manage to release with little to no bugs/glitches/frame drops that will be a HUGE win. Also if I could become God-Emperor, that would be greaaaat

If the budget allows them more time for polish, that’s what should matter most. I’m sure people would fund them to take extra time if possible.
This is a series that deserves GTA levels of time and polish! You saw how Starfield came out way before it’s ready imo.

Is this like ark and rust where your camps are still online when you log out for the day or like fallout 76 and it despawns when you log out?
This looks so cool. I'll look forwards to finding out more details, for example whether there'll be forced PvP, will other players be able to come in and attack your base, and how the whole base building aspect will be implemented if the game is an MMO and everyone is trying to build on a same map. I love playing survival crafting games in co-op, but without worrying about other players while focusing on the PvE, so we will see if this will be a game for me.
Please make this more than just a conan reskin. We want book lore accuracy

With all their experience with Conan and many other open world mmo games i hope they knock this one out of the park. I would really love to see Anarchy Online 2 though, that world and futuristic sci-fi setting is what gaming needs right now. And would be a solid transition from Dune, make it happen Funcom!

If this is just Conan Exiles but I can fly the funny bug helicopters that will be all I ever needed it to be
2 things.
1: lasers? don't you know what happens when a laser hits a personal shield?
2: I saw Fremen flying with Holtzman suspensors. They should make Shai-Hulud crazy when used outside the shield wall.

any holtzman gadget will enrage the worm in the worm territory
They asked frank Herbert if they could change this part of the lore for in order to not have “nuclear explosion” every time someone shoot a laser to a shield
now the laser will not shoot at all if is pointing at a shield ( Choam implemented a safety measure)

He's wearing stillsuit nose plugs but no actual facemake, for aesthetic reasons.

@@w0mblemania did you watch the original movie or series? I think they’re being faithful to that material. They didn’t wear hats or glasses. It’s not a nose plug. The tube is a breathing mechanism to return moisture to their suit.

They don't wear sunglasses too often in Dune (2021) either, which isn't smart, but ... aesthetics.
The game can afford to be a bit smarter.
Star Wars Galaxies downslide started when they changed the rules to satisfy all the kids who wanted to be Jedi. If they plan to make "Bene Gesserit Voice" just another skill you can learn and slot, they have taken a step down the same path of damnation.

I'm going to just pretend this is Anarchy Online 2 with sandworms and blue eyes.
Player models could use some more detail, the animations look painfully stiff too.
Hopefully there will be different body types too, especially different heights for male and female characters.
Like people have said, take your time to get this right. A lot of potential and it looks promising.

Apparently this is set in an alternate history, one aspect is changed. I'm betting Paul Atreides doesn't survive the surprise attack on Arakeen, therefore no Muadib, the Harkonnens survive, Feyd Rautha marries Irrulan etc....
Paul part seems like a pretty fair bet; hard to see him being around and timeline altered to this extent. His father Leto has been confirmed to be around.

No evidence of Paul being alive. You can meet Leto, that has been said. Both Atreides and Harkonnen are in the game.
this dune game could be one of the greatest. hopefully it lives up to the hype.

I can see this Game releasing Fall 2025 end of next Year No earlier, At Very Least. That should hopefully be enough time.
