    Hi Gustavo. Just wanted to once again thank you for your wonderful step by step videos. Also, I wanted to share my personal experience while doing my first oil change at 600 miles. Everything in your video is spot on except when it came time to torquing down the DCT filter cover. You along with the Honda Rebel 1100 Service Manual state that 9 foot lbs should be used on the two 6M x 18 mm flange hex bolts. They require a 8mm head size socket or wrench. I now know exactly what the dimensions are on these two bolts because I broke/snapped one of them while applying the 9 ft lbs of torque. I called my Parts Department at my Honda Dealer to order some replacements. Spoke to a well knowledgeable parts and service guy who also owns a 1100 DCT bike. He told me that the Honda Service Manual is wrong in providing those particular 9 ft lbs of torque. He said that they should be hand tightened snuggly and evenly instead. Anyway, I wound up replacing both of those bolts. The second one, even though it did not snap, was severely stretched and distorted. Thing is, even when I was initially torquing down those bolts it just didn’t feel right to me since it just seemed like way to much pressure. Anyhow, I had to get some reverse bolt removal bits, drill a hole into the broken bolt, and than work it out of the hole. Thankfully none of the threads on the engine were stripped. So now I have two new bolts on the DCT filter cover that I hand tightened and so far so good. BTW, I later watched a video by Ron M and he also uses the hand tightening method for those bolts. Once again, thanks as always for all your helpful info 🙏😎🤞

That's very strange as I've done 3 oil changes so far and torqued them down to 9 foot pounds every time, I got lucky! I'm so sorry that that happened to you, I can only imagine the frustration you went through... But I am very happy to hear that you didn't strip the threads inside the engine.... That's a pain in the ass! Thank you once again for sharing the difficult lesson you learnt so that we benefit as a community! 🙏

      @@ontherebel11 , all is well now. I was having anxiety waiting for my replacement bolts to come into my Honda Dealership though. Tried an online search for a generic replacement but came up empty handed. So you have done 3 oil changes thus far without any problems? Perhaps you have better quality bolts/metal . The next time you remove the DCT filter cover you may want to examine those bolts though. If they appear more narrow thru the threads near the the head, that means it was stretched. And, maybe at some future point in time they may finally give way and break. You could be prepared for that possible eventuality and have a couple of replacement bolts on hand, just in case. It cost less than $5.00 for me for the both of them. Thanks again for responding so quickly 👍Enjoy the rest of the Labor Day weekend 😎

    Just a heads up for anyone doing they're own oil change on these bikes, my brother and myself just did our 1st oil changes based on this video *Thanks BTW*. We did some of the steps a little differently though and had some better results in terms of oil spillage, what we did differently, least on my bike, after running the bike for 5ish mins etc I checked the oil, then opened the fill port, then I emptied the oil pan, both nuts. Then we changed the filter on the front, which had very little oil spill out from it. Then we changed the DCT filter and had no oil spill out onto the side of the bike, all in all doing it this way minimizes oil spillage on the bike, which = less cleanup :D.
    How ever, upon putting the bolts back in on the DCT filter cap, which yes, we put them on by hand 1st then torqued them down to 9ft pounds, we both had the same bolt, *right side on the cap* snap the heads off, so be warned, these bolts quality is *VERY* poor and I don't know how Honda missed this issue. Even the left side bolts showed signs of stretching with just 9ft pounds of torque.
    We ended up having to go into town and replace all the bolts with some M6-1.0 x 16mm bolts, we then hand tightened them and applied 6nm instead of the mentioned 9ft pounds of torque and have had no issues since, but I feel like these bolts, and where they are would be fine with just being hand tight and then some since this isn't a high pressure area. Its best to be safe then sorry, so don't go by what the manual says instead hand tighten it and if you feel you need to torque it down don't go past 6-7nm *Yes NM Not FT Pounds* :) Hope this helps others with the DCT models :D.

      I always drain the engine oil first like you did, this removes any oil from the back of the filters and also puts a little vacuum on the back side of the filters so there is very little if any spillage.

    It's nearly time for my 2nd oil change on my 1100 DCT, so I came back for a refresher course, and to remind myself of the torque for the drain plugs.
    I see that others here are stating that 9ft lbs is too much for the stock bolts on the DCT filter cover, so that's very good information to have. I would like to have an actual number to go by, other than simply "snug", but it's much better than the heartache of snapping a bolt off in the engine.

      I'm so happy to hear that you find the video helpful! Yes please be careful with the DCT filter bolts, I use a torque wrench and set it to 9ft lbs per the manual, fingers crossed, I haven't snapped one yet, but I have spares just in case. 🍻

    Hi Gus, I just changed my oil again at 8,000miles. First at 600miles, second around 4000 and now. Honda should have put the filler and dipstick on the right side of the bike. It would be much easier to add and check oil. With many other bikes, the filler and dip stick are on the right side so it is on the "high" side and much easier to get to and holds a funnel nicely. When I check the oil on my other bike, with the bike on its side stand, the filler is almost level and holds a funnel nicely. When checking oil, I leave the bike on it's side stand, take out the dip stick, wipe it off and drop it in the hole. Then I pick up the bike so it's level and set it back down and check the stick. I do this a couple times to get an accurate reading. Keep in mind it's a 700lb bike so not having to do the balancing act is appreciated.

    Did an oil change last weekend using your guide, went very smooth. No stands were necessary, once drain bolts unscrewed you can straighten the bike to assure complete drainage. Also poured little oil into new filter before installing it to prime filtering matter.

    Just picked up my 2024 Rebel (manual) a couple weeks ago, and getting ready for a 200 mile oil/filter change. I don't have a pair of pink pumps, but sure I can get by. 😀

      Bought a 2018 500 a couple years ago. Traded it in last summer for a 2022 1100 with less than 200 miles on it!
      3 weeks later I was the victim of a hit & run. The bike was a total loss, I almost was.
      I still hurt, but in January I bought a 2024 1100, and on nice days I've been riding it to and from work. Excited to have warm weather moving in!
      I absolutely love the Rebel platform! Honda sure hit a home run with these!

    Wonderful. A motorcycle with an oil dipstick on the filler cap, I assume. It's a simple design and it works. I hate the oil level sight glasses. I don't know how many of you are familiar with using copper anti-seize on motorcycle bolts, but it's the thing to use for me. Seems like if you put a bolt in at 6 ft lbs., a few thousand miles later, without some anti-seize it might take a lot more than that to get it out.

I do recommend changing the o ring, I've seen numerous oil leaks due to the o ring, personally I wouldn't risk it, but there are owners who opted not to change it, weigh the pros and cons and the decision will come to you, the manual states that you need a new one at every change 🤙

    Took long enough to get through my break-in miles, but finally getting to her first oil change. Of course, there you are giving great instruction and detail! Thanks again, brother! Love your thoroughness. Would've never known or thought about the DCT filter or the 2 drain plugs. I should probably pickup a service manual... is the one from Helm the one you have?

Yes, it's the service manual from Helm, very useful, but you probably don't need it as you'll find most maintenance jobs documented on youTube with some reference to the manual.

    Hey man thanks for the video! Just got my Rebel 2021 1100 standard yesterday and found your channel to be really helpful so far. Sadly my old bike stands won’t work on this. What are you using by chance I see they are thuhle or something like that. You have a model/part number or website by chance?

    The service manual (Engine Oil Section) says "Place the motorcycle on its side stand." when checking oil level. Isn't that why the dipstick is on an angle, so you can check it on the kickstand? I'm due to change it on my DCT in about 100 miles and will see if extra oil comes out of the (2) drain bolts when tilting the bike upright. I don't see anything in the manual about the bike position when changing the oil, just when checking it. I'd be curious as to what Honda service says. Maybe that's why there are the (2) drain bolts, so you can drain either on kickstand or when upright? Thanks for all the videos and safe riding!

      Hi Jason, I'm not sure how legible the text of the service manual is that I included while checking my oil, the service manual states to check the oil level with the bike on a level surface in an upright position. You are able to change the oil with the bike on the side stand, but make sure you drain both drain bolts, regardless if the bike is on a side stand or a paddock stand, both drain bolts need to be removed. 👍

      I was confused too but re read it like 5 times and finally figured out that it says sidestand, run the engine, then actually check oil on a level surface with the bike upright. I definitely missed that detail several times too. 👍🏼

    Hi Gustavo. Thank you for your videos. They're always very detailed and relatively calming. Quick question. The o-ring that goes on the oil filter, is it the same o-ring that goes on the cover for the DCT filter housing? So essentially, we'd need to buy two of the same o-rings (P/N 91302-PA09-003), not just one? Thank you again and all the best!

      Thank you Thedoctorate, i appreciate your kind words! The O-ring is only for the DCT filter cover, the traditional engine oil filter comes with its own O-ring built into it, just be mindful that on rare occasions that filter fuses to the engine block when you remove the old oil filter, hence why we inspect and clean that surface well before screwing on the oil filter. That's a good question and will help others, thank you for posing it! Let me know if there is anything that is unclear, it's hard to cover every angle in the video without a cameraman LOL

    Another great video..., I have seen many of your videos and frankly I did not expect anything less. I also own a rebel 1100 and one small job I would like to know more about is removing the battery. Have you done this on your bike? If so is it as simple as it should be or is it more complicated? I am talking about a complete removal of the battery. Any info would be appreciated... Thanks

      Hi Malik! Great question! You can definitely drain the oil while the bike is on the side stand. The owner's manual says to change the oil every 8,000 miles. There are 2 opinions about that number, some people prefer to change the oil much sooner, while others follow what the Honda engineers recommend. It doesn't hurt if you decide to change your oil every 3,000 miles. It's your baby and no one should tell you what to do, follow your heart brother 👍
      Honestly, you'll be safe both ways in my opinion.

    Why do you have to guess how much engine oil is needed? It's usually in the manual, some engines even have stamped the oil capacity somewhere on the engine. It should say something like 1000/1200/2500ml vice versa. Just drain the used oil properly then dump the entire amount mentioned in the manual in the engine

      You make a good point, but in my experience as well as a few others, when we fill the bike with the exact amount mentioned in the service manual, the oil level on the dip stick appears to be too high even after a couple of thousand miles, i am picky and prefer to do things my way.

      @@ontherebel11 there are a little bit of difference between oil capacities when you replace oil filters and when you don't replace filters. you don't replace oil filters during every oil change. the difference should be about 100-300ml. that should be mentioned in the manual as well.
      now, manufacturers carefully measure the exact amount of oil thats needed for the engine when that given engine is in prototype stage. too much oil will overflow in the burn chamber and can ruin your piston and cylinder. too little will starve the engine from nescessary lubrication. and dipstick levels can change with the bike leaning side to side. when you lean it left, it might appear too high. when you lean to the right, it might appear too low. even standing straight won't give you precise measurement of the oil. so, relying solely on the dipstick level is kinda foolish imo (no offense, but I'm a mechanic, trust me)
      not to mention, you also have to consider the oil manufacturers rated run time. you can't use every oil for 8000miles.
      also, you don't need to waste money by replacing the o-ring on the secondery filter cap unless it's actually damaged. just apply some new lube on the o-ring like you did in the video and put it back in. it's not like the paper like engine seals. it's silicone and rated for much longer life.

    I see you are using wheel chocks to hold the bike upright. Not everyone will notice or have this. Besides the bike being level it also must be held verticle to get a correct reading.

      @@ontherebel11 Not many of us go to that trouble. I pull the drain plugs and move the bike from side to side to make sure all of the oil is out. Leaving the bike verticle and stationary may leave puddles of oil in the sump.

      Sump is a technical term going back 120 years, drain pan. lol As an example, Harleys have a "dry sump" meaning that they don't have an oil pan and the oil is held away from the sump/crank case and pulled in to lubricate the motor. Dumb design but Harley thinks it has been fine for 120 years. lol

      Hi John, I use regular petroleum oil, I've heard mixed reviews with people using full synthetic, do your research before making a decision, personally I won't be using synthetic.

      Hello, that is a difficult question to answer brother, The rebel 1100 DCT is relatively easier to ride due to the DCT, low seat height and low center of gravity, but it is a very powerful bike and demands respect. I would recommend that you take a motorcycle riding class to learn and then you will know immediately if you are ready for such a powerful bike.

      Hi Paul! it's the mustang tripper passenger seat, i highly recommend it my man! So much more comfortable for the passenger, we just did 350 miles and zero complaints from my passenger! Stock is limited at the moment so you will have to do a google seach to see which online store carries them nowadays.

As TangySquid mentioned, buy everything needed for 2 oil changes along with the oil filter socket at the dealership, and keep the receipts if you plan on doing the oil changes yourself, they will be used as proof in case there is a warranty repair ever needed on your bike.

      @@my2wheels make sure to get a good torque wrench that can measure low torque values. 9ft lbs is a hard number to accurately torque to with a wrench that goes to 150 ft lbs or above.

    I have a (Pittsburgh) torque wrench from Harbor Freight and I just don't trust it. I got my drain bolts really tight and it just wanted to keep going so I stopped. Has anyone else experienced this when trying to get bolts to spec?

      Hi Justin, I've been using the one you see in the video since 2009, never had an issue with it from 9 foot lbs to 80. When I do doubt that I'm putting too much pressure, I reduce the torque setting by half to ensure that the torque wrench isn't broken and incrementally Add 5 pounds at a time, until I reach the desired torque 🤙

    Any update on the Corbin and Mustang seats for the 1100 ?

      Hi Andrew! After thousands of miles of testing, the Corbin wins in the long distance all day ride. The downside for me with the Corbin at 5'7 is that it has affected my reach to the ground and to the bars... But it is definitely more comfortable for me than all the other seats I've tried including the mustang.... In all honesty, I wanted the mustang to win....

      The Corbin pushed me back away from the bars by at least an inch. But because the seat is large enough, I can move forward a little and shift back to be comfortable. Because of the wider seat, I experienced zero pain in the ass and tailbone, so to me it is a major victory. I will be doing a detailed video of everything I have experienced with all the seats, including the mustang and Corbin, I have been experimenting with so many seats and would like to share everything I have learnt so far. Work has been quite busy and I haven't had the opportunity to record any videos....

      @@ontherebel11 Ha Ha....Thanks for that, very interesting. You put out such great content that everyone is on your back to produce more videos ! Like you, I really wanted the Mustang to win. I don't have the ass problems, more shoulders and neck. As the Mustang seems to actually push you forward an inch or so I might give it a try as it appears more suited for me (and looks better than the Corbin in my opinion) Thanks again, I really appreciate your advice and comments and look forward to a video on the seats when you get some free time !
