  • The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA) is a brooding, eternal land of Precambrian rock and water, with ancient trails trod deep by the moccasins and snowshoes of countless generations. Stretching more than a 100 miles along the Canadian border, the Boundary Waters is a federal wilderness within the Superior National Forest and an international treasure. It is a land of 1.1 million acres of unbroken forests and more than a thousand lakes, where with only a few exceptions motorized transport is strictly prohibited. Join me if you will for a winter camping trek in this amazing landscape in the waning days of winter.

    Thanks for the great video.
I stayed in that campsite in late October one time in a severe sleet storm where we almost sunk our canoe in the bay around the corner and have been out there many times in the winter. It is well sheltered compared to many other places on the lake. I love it dearly because I thought I was going to drown right before we made the turn. When we pulled in an old man gave us a half dozen eggs which were truly amazing after eating dehydrated food for a week.
This video brings back a lot of great memories. Your wood collecting skills are impressive! I hit Seagulll late this winter and the weather was amazing it is always nice to not need snowshoes. Keep on rocking your videos inspire me.

Thank you very much, I’m glad you enjoyed it. That is a nice campsite in a great location. I also stayed there on my winter camping trip last year. Sounds like you have some great memories.

Great video. Really enjoyed your use of nat sound. It’s what I seek in that wild place. I suppose we all do. I’ve been on two winter trips there and I recall eating, chopping wood and walking taking up most of my time.

Thank you. Yeah I think I prefer just the natural sounds in the environment rather than adding the background music. I bring my kindle so I also spend a lot of time reading while I’m out on these trips.

Great video! Very enjoyable. You didn't mention how long you were out there. 20 minutes doesn't quite do it justice my man. It was really cool bumping into you out there. Great banter. I hope I see you again!!

Hey Matt, thanks. Yeah when you stay put in the same spot you kinda run out of new and interesting things to film. I really wanted to include more fishing but the weather really didn’t allow it. It was great meeting and chatting with you, hopefully we’ll run into each other again out there.

I always enjoy your solo efforts. It looked like a ton of hard work getting out. I just purchased my first Hot Tent. Getting ready for next winter already. See you on the ice maybe

I’m glad you enjoyed it. Yes the trip out was very exhausting, I was pretty much spent by the time I made to my truck. I always enjoy meeting new folks while I’m out there so be sure to come on over and say hello.

@@KMMohiuddin-bw1tn Life sometimes gets in the way. I didn’t get out on a spring trip because I was suffering from a knee injury that made walking difficult. I haven’t been on a summer trip yet because it’s been raining a lot so far this summer. I’ve been checking the forecast and it looks like a change in the weather is coming so I’m hoping that I can get out on a trip very soon. Thanks for the comment.

Just discovered your page and love your videos. I must live near you as i recognize many of the places you go, well at least in Wisconsin. What tent is that?

That’s awesome! And thank you very much for the great comment. I’m not far from Wisconsin here in northeastern Minnesota south of Duluth. The tent is a Eureka solo backpacker, unfortunately they don’t make this particular model anymore.
