    While in sketch mode, after trimming out the section, add a short line segment to either end of the open part of ring. This way the flange will already have a flat area for the unfold without having to do the extrude. Offset face on the side of the ring without the flat area can be used to complete the ring after manipulation. If being a stickler, the flat area can be removed before offset face is used to complete the ring.

    I didn't know Fusion could do that. Now I know. Thanks for being your usual Lars self!!! :-)

    As there are a lot of ring with pattern that are kind of symmetical I wonder if it would be possible to just model a quarter of a ring, unfold it, do the individual work on the pattern (which needs to be able to connect properly at the borders) and then fold it and complete the ring by mirroring/copying.

    Great video as usual Lars, but not necessary to create that small flat section. Fusion allows you to select the cylindrical shape as the stationary face when creating the flat pattern.

    Great video...Really enjoying all the different videos. Well done. I am trying to figure out how to show the bend lines in the unfolded view. Am I missing something simple?

  • @rojerww
    @rojerww 5 лет назад

    At that end point - you can grab the flat surface between end points and extrude to object in order to close the circle making a solid band. A small flat on the “bend”. Completing the band/circle.

      Not really because the flat surface you're talking about is not pointing directly at the other flat surface but a little bit outwards, so extruding it to the other face will leave a sharp ridge on the outer surface and a sharp valley on the inner surface.

    • @rojerww
      @rojerww 5 лет назад

      cavalrycome you are correct, but at that scale, seems easier to buff out and be stronger than to solder in and be weaker. Seems relative and easy enough to experiment with in the real world.

    • @stefanwossner2007
      @stefanwossner2007 5 лет назад +1

      You could also delete the little flat extrusion and sweep the end surface along the circle of the ring to close it.

      Stefan Wössner Nice. I hadn’t done that yet. I’m quite a newbie to the sheet metal options. Thank you.

    I am looking for a solution like this for months ... one question: can I close the gap afterwards in Fusion? Aka solder it in Fusion?

  • @curlyhairdudeify
    @curlyhairdudeify 3 года назад

    What would be the application of such sheet metal? I mean, if you laser cut metal with that pattern it will break on every circular gap if you try to hammer it into shape. And distort the straight edges of the circles.

    Do you have any other videos geared toward jewelers? I'm working an elaborate prong setting currently and I wanted to build a marquise stone to utilize in the process, but I'm not sure how to produce the facets for the girdle and crown accurately.

    Hi Lars, great Video again :)
    Did you know a way to rename or change the parameters to another name?
    I mean i have a ton of parameters called something like boxprimitive1...34 or Extrude1...34 and i have no clue which of them are for which bodies or sketeches etc... thank you for any help ;)

      Sorry, at this point Fusion assigns the names without an opportunity to change then

    If the pattern is applied on a cylindrical 3D shape (technical drawing gives only gap in degrees between pattern holes) instead of flat pattern, will the unfold work in the same manner?

    Hi Lars, I made a fatal mistake to upgrade to OSX Catalina - now I am unable to post process. I cannot find anything about this on the forums - are Autodesk aware of this?

    After doing this to design a pave for an engagement ring setting can I then work in solid like normal and extrude out a euro shank and do the top setting?

    This seems so hacky compared to the elegant unrollsrf and flowalongsrf approach in rhino. This is one feature I wish fusion had a first class support for. This and actual deformers like bend, twist, taper, cage edit etc. I have asked this feature for years but fusion team doesn't think its a priority. You would think that at least tsplines would have deformers like other sub-d solutions. Tsplines hasn't had major update in years and is so slow that I find it easier to model in maya and convert to brep than work natively in tsplines.

    You have this really bad behaviour not "converting" lines to construction lines!
    It's so easy, just click the line press x. Only one profile, simple!
