    Hey, it looks like my sacrifice to the CAD Gods worked 😊 I made a cone profile fully constrained. When I thickened the part, I did it outwards, which is fine for me. Then just followed the rest of the steps.Happy days 😊👍

    Super helpful. I was watching another video and this straightened me out for generating the unfolded image
    One problem, though, I can't figure out how to create an unfolded technical drawing to have it ordered from a cut shop.

      In the sheet metal component create Flat pattern. This needs a flat face and you need to do this before reducing the gap in the cone. And then you can make a drawing from design, change representation to Flat pattern.

      @@KristianLaholm Thanks for the quick response. I was able to create the flat pattern and had no problem grabbing my 0.001" flat face by zooming in on it.
      I had two issues which worked themselves out from there.
      (1) I tried to change my page size to landscape before finalizing the base view placement, and couldn't figure out how to add the base view back. I created a new drawing and placed it before changing page sizes, and everything worked out normally from there.
      (2) I exported my flat pattern to a DXF for editing in CorelCad 2023 (Affordable autocad clone). The original Fusion DXF and the DWG I saved from it refused to change dimension text size. I had to save the document a second time and then reload it before dimension sizes would change. Not sure if this was on the original DXF end, or just a glitch with CorelCad, but restarting the program with a second save worked.
      I am still a little confused about the nuance of switching back and forth between (activating) flat patterns, but I was able to get drawings produced in Fusion and an Autocad clone from them, so your reply was super helpful. Thanks again. (Original post was from a company account; this is still me).

      @@JamesArlow777 I'm glad to hear that you were able to create the flat pattern and resolve your issues. The DXF file format has some strange revisions sometimes causing problems with text and poly-lines.
      Keep on testing and learning :)

    Great tutorial! But can you create a flat pattern from more complex sweeped surfaces? I have trouble to do so.

    • @KristianLaholm
      @KristianLaholm 11 месяцев назад

      That depends on the surface. Fusion can only flat pattern surfaces with bends that are around one axis, no compound surfaces. And most complex surfaces can't be "flat pattern" without stretching or compressing the result (think of wrapping a flat papper on a sphere). Meshmixer can be an option, there are tutorials.

      I gave the workflow a try and it works for me. Is there a problem with the body you are referencing (creating the offset face from, how did you make that cone)? When do you get the error in the workflow?
      You say none of the tutorials work, what over tutorials have you tried?

      This is the other one we've tried. I formed the cone using a sketch and the revolve function and then followed your steps exactly. Tried it twice. I don't know what else to try...I've used this same method before to turn a cylinder into a flat pattern and it worked.

      @@chrisgiesbrecht2159 It sounds strange. I can do both workflows with no problems. If you can share the file (include all the steps you take) I can have a look.
