    I haven't watched much into this video but I'm at 15:05 and I just wanted to give a small tip about your preferences: If you are modeling for 3D printing, change your "Default modeling orientation" from the default Y up to Z up. When you export your models to STLs and import them into Cura, for example, they'll be the correct orientation. Otherwise, they will import sideways and you have to rotate them.

      Hi Owen, Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment AND the Tip! When you go into 3D Print have you checked out Meshmixer? That also gives you some cool tools

      P.S.- One suggestion is maybe, on your CAD/CAM tutorials like Fusion 360, you could add the model you worked on in the video to the video description so others like me could download it and work on it as an exercise. Maybe sometimes this isn't possible due to privacy of your (or someone else's) design, but if it is possible it sure would be awesome! Thanks Lars!

      That is a great suggestion. I started doing that as of late, and are planning on doing it going forward when possible. Make sure to check out the video description area for links.

    I did start with your 3 'absolute beginners' designing the small box. Looked at some others and now this one. All excellent tutorials.Thanks. One thing is that except for the first 3, all seem to have the menu of Fusion 360 out of focus on my laptop. A bit annoying and not sure if this is something that went wrong when recording the vids.

    i cant even begin how much i apreciate this and all of your videos on fusion, im a slow learner with learning disabilities and it will take some time for me to get used to this program, i used to use autocad r14 when i was a cnc tool maker,although this is taking me some time to figure out what everything does, theres just so much to this aswome program, i have been tinkering with it for 1 year now, not much progress i might add,but im determined to get acustomed to using it profeciently .eventually id like to get a 3d printer ththered to it ,, but first i need to figure out how to use the program,i have subscribed to you and eventually wilol get it by watching your videos,, very detailed compaired to anything iv found on the interweb.lol.. ty again

    Hello Lars, Great Series and Very Helpful!
    One problem that I have run across is the Free Orbit and Constrained Orbit which strange to me, since I can not get the Constrained orbit to work in a way that is logical to me.
    Here is how I think it should work:
    1. User selects Constrained Orbit
    2. User Selects Orbit axis x, y, or z, user can select from a popup menu or click on the Origin x, y, z letters.
    3. The Orbit axis, while in the Constrained Orbit mode, should should be retained until the user changes the orbit axis.
    4. If the model positioned using free orbit then the user re-enters the Constrained Orbit mode then the Orbit should still be about the selected Constrained Orbit.
    5. The Rate at which the model orbits should be a function of the distance of the cursor from the middle of the model or a selected orbit point.
    I did find the circle and right angled lines referred to but they are so deem to be almost un-see-able. Looking in the help for the solution still does not give a good description of what to do, the problem could well be me, but I think there can be a more logical way.
    Maybe you can use your teaching technique to enlighten us. Or maybe even better, Use your Influence with Autodesk to redesign this function.
    Thanks and Keep Creating your Great Videos, they help allot, especially since you are experienced in CNC machining! Your CAM Videos are Great!! Among You, Aaron, Wolfgang Walden and Tyler Beck - Autodesk is lucky, as are we the users!

    Hi Lars, I like your other videos. I ended up here because a non-technical friend asked me what's fusion about. I've looked about 25 videos and still haven't found a video that doesn't talk the watcher's ear off before getting down to brass tacks. It would be for someone who just wants to get the gist of fusion 360 but who isn't looking to be a 3d modeler. It's nearly 10 minutes in and my friend still has no idea. I would create it myself but i don't have the equipment or tools, nor the expertise. Is it anything you can do?

    I would like to learn Fusion 360. the clips I have seen says it is free but when I try to download it I am asked what college or education establishment I attend and when I enrolled, now I am 75 years old and think it a bit late for college but I am still very interested in learning new things . Is there any way I can download the free version. Thanks in anticipation of your reply.

    In all of your Fusion 360 tutorials or any other tutorials from Autodesk, have you covered Construction Lines? What are Construction Lines in F360? What unique features other than color and appearance do Construction Lines have that typical sketch lines do not have. NOTE: This is not a "How To" question. I know how to draw a Construction Line. I have read many, many posts in the forum on issues other users have had, but I cannot find a clear definition of a Construction Line from Autodesk.

    • @cadcamstuff
      @cadcamstuff  6 лет назад

      Hi John Hansen Thank you for watching!
      Well, it used to be that construction lines were needed if you wanted references lines, but did not want them to be accounted for when extruding etc. But, in Fusion that has somewhat changed. I don't really use construction lines anymore, because Fusion still let's you select the areas you want. Today,

    Lars,
    I am just beginning Fusion 360 after an introductory course in AutoCAD at a local technical college. What I can see indicates this would be a useful webinar, emphasis on "what I can see". I am watching Aaron Magnin"s video via a MacBook Pro on an Apple Thunderbolt (27") display. Of course you can't really make out detail in the reduced screen mode. ->-> Go to full screen. The video resolution on my display is so fuzzy I can't see the commands to follow along. When I display the play controls (bottom left hand corner) they are clear. The RUclips "frame" is clear. Can you suggest how I might make the video clearer?

    My version ( downloaded yesterday) seems to be different to what you and Aaron are using. I followed it along, slightly frustrated as I was having to go back and re-do things sometimes 2 or 3 times until I got it right. I managed to get the bottom part of the bracket finished, but when he went to put the pins in, I lost all control and completely destroyed the whole thing. Why are bot you and Aaron drawing on a white sheet, yet I always start out with a grid?

    • @cadcamstuff
      @cadcamstuff  6 лет назад

      Hi Tom Henderson Thank you for watching!
      The software keeps updating, but there should not be anything so different that this tutorial would not work.
      In regards the grid. Go to the bottom of your screen and you will see an icon that looks like a grid. There you can turn it on or off
      Also, Check this list out:

      Here I do everything from default settings.

  • @jwgreene2
    @jwgreene2 6 лет назад

    At 40:00 he selects "All" to make sure his hole always goes all the way through. This makes sense but when I do it I get three errors, "Zero Distance", "Can't create toolbody, please check inputs", and "Modeling error: can't create toolbody, please check inputs". I've retried several times and compared his screen to mine, it's exactly the same but I get these errors instead of a hole all the way through the saddle.

    Hey Lars, great video. I'm on 17 yrs. self-employed, coming from the sign\graphic making field. Mainly using 2D software Corel Draw, and a couple others. I have no experience with engineering\drafting what so ever. I have Fusion 360 trial and have dove right in. My toughest times with Fusion I think, is terms of the commands? I have to trace a lot over imported photos or scans in order to duplicate images. I'm working on modeling and sketches right now. I run into a brick walls with commands, and scaling up, and or down. Should I try some other software that's more basic? Only to catch up with assumed knowledge for Fusion users?

      Hi Rod, Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and to comment. Would you send me an email to lars.christensen@autodesk.com? My thought is to get one of the Autodesk Street team members involved. Then we can determine if Fusion is a good fit.

    • @RandyGregory
      @RandyGregory 8 лет назад +1

      Hi +Rod Pyle, I am just new to Fusion 360, but I have been using Rhinoceros3D & T-Splines for about 10 years. If you are used to Corel Draw, then maybe do the lines there and then figure how to get them into Fusion. Rhino & Illustrator work really go together, so I can draw in one and export to the other. I actually prefer drawing in Rhino. I am just looking at Fusion for the ability to use T-Splines on a Mac. Thanks +Lars for the videos. Good Luck !!!

    • @rodsdaytona
      @rodsdaytona 8 лет назад

      Hey Randy, After exploring Laguna's IQ cnc machine. I ran across Rhino, and tried to download the free demo. It would not load, and I haven't investigated why. But I did get Aspire 4.0, and understood a good deal of it right away. I'm learning the modeling mode through trial and error, and also Vectric's youtube seminars. I'm interested in making guitar parts someday, and I'm starting with the 2 and a half dimensions first. Thanks for the reply, super helpful!!

    • @RandyGregory
      @RandyGregory 8 лет назад

      Hey Rod, glad you found something. Too bad about Rhino, there is a guitar maker on the Rhino Forums, Darren @ decibelguitars.com , he seems to be using Rhino for guitars. My advice about starting in 3D is to make sure you are working in a file format that is current. There is a lot of 3D file formats, but only a few that are used a lot across different disciplines, I make jewellery for example. I am no engineer and have no need for AutoCad, for example. Lots of luck with the modelling, says some one from the 2d world of graphic design who discovered 3D 10 years ago and is addicted to it.

    I don't understand the 3 planes, which is the xz, yz, xy and when is it proper to use which one?

    • @cadcamstuff
      @cadcamstuff  6 лет назад

      Hi Don W Thank you for watching!
      If you look at the View cube in the upper right, you will see how the planes resemble in regards to top, front and side.
      I would tell you that there is no real rule for when to use one or the other. It really comes down to when it is time to actually make the part. But, both CAM and 3D printing tools have their own tools to rotate and place the parts depending on what type of machine. Soooo, I don't worry too much about what plane I select to sketch on.
      Best,
      Lars
