Either the 1968 or 2002 games could be argued to be the most legendary matchups of the OSU-Purdue series (for Buckeye fans, at least). Both, of course, have the common denominator of springing the Buckeyes to a national title.
In this video, I truncate the 2002 Ohio State-Purdue game to 10 minutes, giving special emphasis to "Holy Buckeye".
My heart stopped when Krenzel tossed that ball up in the air. Holy Buckeye will live forever in Ohio State lore.

Thanks for having the Gamble INT on this. The INT has always been overshadowed by other plays during the 2002 season. First time that I have seen the Gamble INT on youtube. That was the forgotten play of not only this game but the entire 2002 season. Nickey was out of position and that pass likely would have been completed. What a play by Gamble.

My brother, my dad and I went to the OSU v. Illinois game @Illinois. Illinois hadn't won a BigTen game in like 2 years, and took OSU to overtime haha. The Buckeyes pulled it out though, obviously.

Yes, the 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2011, and 2012 games were all decided by a touchdown or less..I was at the 2012 PUR at OSU game ⁉🏈⬛🏟🎫Purdue obliterated Ohio State in 2018..

Purdue Fan here (and Ohio State fan). It's funny how Musburger uses the "Holy Buckeye" call here, since two years prior in 2000, in Purdue's Rose Bowl, Drew Brees through a game winning long pass on the closing minutes that got Musburger screaming "Holy Toledo"

LOL I was golfing at Fowlers Mill in Ohio east of Cleveland , we watched the final minutes when we were turning the corner. Didn't care about how well or how bad my game was after seeing this. 🙃

The maddeningthing about Tressel's coaching at Ohio State was the conservative play calling and BCS losses three years in a row from 2006-2008 ⁉🏈🏟The Buckeyes won the Big11Ten outright in 06 and 07 but got blown out by SEC Champion Florida and LSU in the BCS Championship games..Ohio State did play Texas tough in 2008 Fiesta Bowl..

This game was on BTN last night. Even though I knew the Bucks won (they went 14-0), I was biting my nails throughout.

That was about as thrilling as it gets. But I was hoping for a bit more of the end of the first half with the controversial field goal. I clearly remember hearing Musberger argue that Nuge didn't get the ball kicked before the clock hit 0:00. Not that the play wasn't STARTED before 0:00, but that it wasn't KICKED before 0:00. I think that's when I fell in love with Musberger. (sarcasm of the highest order)
The Fan 97.1 is replaying all of the radio broadcasts from the 2002 season. Today was Holy Buckeye!. Next week is Illinois. Exciting to listen to, even knowing the Buckeyes will pull it out....somehow.
to say Jenkins was the last option isn't exactly true. the play was called for first down yardage, but as soon as Krenzel saw the blitz, he knew he would have Jenkins 1 on 1 with no deep help.

Casey- The service academies are the only teams I have ever seen play us in The Shoe that were *not* booed by our fans. Most of the time we boo our own band when they form a logo for the visiting team and play their fight song.
And it was worth all of it.

This was my first season as an OSU fan, unfortunately I was still pretty young so didn’t get to fully appreciate just how insanely incredible it was.
Tressel, in general, took years off people's lives. The way he'd clamp down and go conservative in 2nd halves, manage game clocks, etc etc.
+ 3 National championship games in a 6 year window is nerve racking.
@Patrick20124 I used to hate Brent Musbreger. He's not a big OSU fan. But he makes games like this even more exciting.
This was the only time I felt bad for the opposing fans. It lasted 10 seconds. They were so going to beat big bad OSU and then bang!

Miami dominated thier games and nearly this hole 2002 season was fourth quater last plays to win. we could have as easily went 6-7. and we could have easily lost any of those 8 games. (miami)

it doesnt sting, only thing i've said from the beginning is that it was a fake title, the announcer agrees with me. the retired supervisor of big 10 officials said it was no PI call. i even showed you a fox sports article that said it was the worst call in BCS history. you have one fake title we have 5 legit ones. make sure you thank terry porter after you watch the tape lol

no i dont agree there should have been a flag, that 2002 title game was being called very loosely and on the last play he throws and extremely late flag when there was no contact until after chris gamble DROPPED the ball. hell even the side judge who had the best view of the play didnt call pass interference. face it OSU got a gift from terry porter, they played a good game but dont win without his help

Buckeyes still have a winning record in BCS games even after the last 3 years. They also thumped Texas in Austin. Try again.
i already told you miami was/is in rebuilding mode even with the scattered NFL talent on that team. the point is when miami is in a national title game they have never been destroyed. nobody was even paying attention that game. OSU on the other hand is supposed to be a big powerhouse but they get slaughtered on the regular. i would much rather lose in a smaller game than get demolished for the world to see repeatedly while claiming you are a national power. there's a difference.
it is now ten years later and osu has just beaten perdont again. perdont always plays osu strong, they always play osu dirty and they always have the officials in their backpocket when they play osu. they will always be afterthoughts to osu fans.

we lost to alabama we also beat alabama 33-25 a couple of years before though. ohio state cant say that they've beaten a legit top program while supposedly being on top. any time they step up they get smacked

im not kidding and i have watched that play several times, TRUE OR FALSE, did chris gamble drop the pass or not? the contact glenn had with him had no bearing on the dropped pass both teams were playing bump n run the entire game. again Ohio state got a gift period . even the announcer said it was a bad call the retired supervisor of big ten officials said there was no pass interference in the chicago tribune in february of this year. everyone knows it. OSU fans just deny it

Miami actually beat a good alabama team a few years before that and still were a respected team for beating top teams throughout their reign, cant say the same for OSU though. they are KNOWN for getting demolished any time they play a team outside the slow 10 or one of their cupcake OOC teams they schedule

It's funny to me after watching back some of these games of 2002...the refs helped this team out immensely on their way to a National Championship. The field goal at half shouldn't have counted, not that it would have mattered because Holy Buckeye would have still won the game.
The field goal at half was close but if you pause/play you can see the ball was snapped with one second on the clock. Good field goal. I thought the same thing when I watched at first but a closer look shows it was a good play.
Watch the full version of the game. They show it in slow mo and it's clearly out. Not that it really mattered in a 4 point game though.

what data? all i've said from the beginning was that OSU won a bogus title for the first time since the 1960's. thats a fact. there program didnt become relevant again until the late 90's another fact. Yep. OSU got its butt whooped. Hope the Boilers enjoyed their sub .500 season. After that game, Ohio State didn't lose again, winning the Big Ten & finishing No. 3 overall. As much as I hate to say it, I don't think the Buckeyes would have beaten Clemson. After beating OSU, Purdue lost 4 times including to Minnesota 10-41 & to Auburn 14-63, in a complete Big Ten bowl embarrassment, to finish the season 6-7. "Sure the season was a joke. But we beat Ohio State." Said most Purdue fans who are used to seeing the Boilers suck ass in football. Except for one game in Oct. of 2018.
