Great vid and thank you for including Gamble's INT. If Gamble doesn't go over and make the play Taylor Stubblefield likely makes that catch, because he had Donnie Nickey completely turned around. Huge play that gets overlooked.
I recently watched through the no huddle versions of these games and was reminded that the Buckeyes really struggled to gain consistency on the deep ball that season. Glad they got this one!
I was hoping the Paul Keels call on Holy Buckeye would appear. But as great as Keels is, Brent Musberger gushing with excitement and exclaiming "Holy Buckeye!" is still the best! The 2002 Buckeyes were certainly a team of destiny. After Woody crapped away great teams in 1969, 1973, '74, '75, 77 and the Buckeyes crapping away great seasons/talent under John Cooper, the long National Championship drought would end with this unlikely team. The 34 year wait would end with this magical ride. It almost didn't before Holy Buckeye!
Jim Lachey was prophetic. “You win games like this one, good things are going to happen at the end of the season”. They don’t play college football like this anymore - It was the Golden Age.
Purdue had 9 in the box, it would have blown up a play action call at that time. When they didn't have 9 in the box, they were relentless with the blitz the entire game. As I recall, Clarrett was still nursing a shoulder injury and was limited and Lydell Ross was not a great back to carry the load. Purdue's. Game plan was to shut down the run and force Krenzel to beat them with his arm. It was effective until "Holy Buckeye."
I found the audio on soundcloud while looking for audio of the 2017 USC game, I believe 97.1 the fan rebroadcasted old games during the timeslot of the canceled games from 2020, one of them being this 02 Purdue game. Someone recorded the replay(Audio began in the middle of Purdue's first drive of the 4th quarter) and uploaded it to soundcloud where I downloaded it and edited it with the footage. I was very happy with the find to say the least

It's true. He was basically a Fullback at the QB position. He was a very smart player who maximized his talents...but he was also a very tough runner and took a lot big hits. Back then it was all about being tough. Toughness, leadership, and making clutch plays over and over is what Craig Krenzel was all about. You should RUclips the 2002 season and you'll see what I mean.
@@tubby4388 These days defenses aren't near as tough with rules like targeting. Breathing on a QB these days is a penalty... and DBs basically have to let the WR catch the ball and then softly tackle him to avoid the "defenseless receiver" personal foul call. The game today sucks compared to back then.

For real. What was Nickey doing out there? Thank god somebody was paying attention
Incredible how much ground Gamble made up so quickly from the time the pass was thrown. He made it look easy.
This is so true.
That defense was so damn good.
One of my all-time favorite plays of Ohio State. Having Keels instead of Musburger makes it that much better. Thanks Matt!
Paul Keels' voice is as smooth as a Barry White song.
This is amazing content. Thanks for these uploads! So many memories.
Perhaps the greatest season in my lifetime thus far. I’m 45 btw.
That season put 10 years on me.
Such jubilation after we beat Miami but the biggest sigh of relief that season was over. I was 9 and still remember every game
me too. I agree.
Same
I was in my 30s....but yes.....best season
What a gutsy and ballsy call!!!!

I remember going to the celebration in the stadium after this team won it all. Man was it cold!! But I wouldn't have missed it for anyting.
Thanks for all the hard work Matt. Your channel must have taken hundreds of hours.
I told a friend early in the 2002 year that every game was scheduled heart attack
I still remember the pre season Phil Steele magazine that predicted this v team Dark Horse Natties..... Clairvoyance.....
Paul keels is my vin scully.
Gamble was so key all year
HOLYYY BUCKEYE!!!!
Love how 15 triple checks with sweater vest for the call at 3:25 😅. Totally out of character, and what made Tressell such a good
Coach.
This was the year OSU beat Miami & won the National Champions. 🏆
Krenzel had a way of pulling them out of trouble.
Keels and Lachey sound so different here than they do today.
I was there. It was the only time I have felt bad for rival fans but not that bad.
The DB had Jenkins by the jersey almost the whole route.
Take me back to middle school

When he dropped back to throw that pass thought we lost for sure
That took yrs off my life.
Surprised there wasn’t any play action at all . It was pass from the snap lol

Are you guys all here after reading 11Warriors’ greatest Buckeye plays ever?
Commented on your other video about Keels/Lachey. This is great content. Where are you finding it?

What was Clarett so unhappy about there? Was it that Tressel was leaving him on the sidelines? (Why was Tressel leaving him on the sidelines?)
he was injured. he probably did want to do in, but he wasn't able to be effective that day
My favorite season of all time, but it is the season that has ruined me as a buckeye fan
I heard someone say once that Krenzel was not a great QB, that all he did was to win games.

I forgot Krenzel ate a sack to start that drive ;)
Classic Tressel Ball.
Why is it always purdon't?
Those days were brutal to watch. The offense was so weak.....GO BUCKS!
If beating michigan and winning Titles is "brutal", count me in for more brutality.
Purdue was not that good either. Shocking they struggled so much with Purdue.
