      Ohio State wouldn't have anything to gain from it, just stand to hurt their season if they went in and played a bad game one week. If they beat ND they would only be doing what they were "supposed" to be doing.
      And I realize that describes half of OSUs schedule each year, the point is they wouldn't be real excited to add them to their schedule.
      ND on the other hand could gain a lot from adding them to their schedule. Beating them could boost them into the playoff even if they have 1 loss. Much like they had 1 loss against Clemson but still got in this past season (which I disagreed with BTW, because that could have left Clemson or ND having to beat a team twice to win the national title, and they could have played 3 times which we do NOT need to see. Plus it left other good candidates out of the #4 spot).
      Not sure what the committee was thinking.
      You are right though, fans of NCAA football would like it.

    There was this home-and-home in 1995-96 and the two Fiesta Bowls, and Ohio State just flat-out dominates Notre Dame. There is not really much of a comparison in talent when you watch these teams play each other - and that's been the case for two decades now.

    "Did they invent football?" "Is this a coronation?" Actually Rutgers invented football and all Big Ten fans should thank Jim Delaney for bringing Rutgers into the Big Ten. Game note: Pepe Pearson was a great running back.

    • @nospam3327
      @nospam3327 4 года назад

      Pearson will probably never get the credit he deserved. He really was a great college running back; he was just a half step too slow to be elite. I saw him play in NFL Europe, he was good there also.

    • @Knightmessenger
      @Knightmessenger 4 года назад +1

      Rutgers didnt invent football. The game they played in 1869 is hardly like american football at all.
      And no, bringing them into the big ten was a huge mistake. It didnt make the conference more competitive, it further married the big 10 to cable television. And it makes travel for athletics worse. Who wants to go to rutgers for a weeknight game in volleyball or basketball all the way from ann arbor or further west?

    the 49 and 38 points came before the big defense change. After those games, there was a lot of pressure put on the defensive staff and players from the media to the fans. I live in Columbus, and people were calling for fickell to get fired on the talk shows. It was bad. The team made a huge leap after those games, though. Most points they allowed after that was 23 against penn state with most of those coming in garbage time.
    Also, you have to consider that teams can improve

    Winning by a TD or more is not a Squeaker (especially against the Badgers at Camp Randall). So that leaves only Michigan and Indiana. Those games werent exactly as nail biting as the Final scores. The Buckeyes seemed to have their way with Michigan in the 2nd half. The Indiana win may have ended up being Squeaked out due to a couple Hoosier fireworks in the final minute but the Buckeyes had a 17 point lead before that.

    I've seen a few OSU games; and I never said that OSU is incapable of beating Notre Dame. What I disagreed with was him saying that Ohio State would tear Notre Dame apart. I mean they gave up 49 points to Indiana, and I think 37 to Nebraska. So I'm pretty sure ND could score on the OSU defense; and with Notre Dame that's always my biggest concern. Of course OSU has a good offense themselves; and they could win; but there's no evidence that they would blowout Notre Dame.

    disagree. I haven't seen many notre dame games this year, but I can tell you haven't seen too many ohio state games, either. Ohio State is a solid team with a great coach and players with ton of potential. What you saw all year is a team that is very inconsistent that's showed flashes of brilliance and immaturity. One thing that was always consistent was its ability to rise to the occassion. I've got no doubt in my mind that the buckeye team this year could beat anyone out there.

    1) I HATE Ron Powlus-He sucked the big one.
    2) Holtz's most talented team is either the 92' or 93' teams.
    3) That OSU team was sick. I LOVE Notre Dame and I have to say I remember how frustrating that game was to watch. Not sure if it was the opening kickoff, or that Powlus option run down the sideline where he got caught from behind because he had cement blocks for feet, or the that Powlus had severe happy feet when in the pocket, or the fact that powlus sucked.

    SMART GUY--you do know these schedules are made years in advance? We were supposed to play Vanderbilt instead but they canceled on us. Florida A&M is STILL not worse than the typical Navy team. Not playing makes a better Offseason than losing a Bowl. We should be playing the Irish every year anyway. Notre Dame (a Midwestern team who already plays Purdue, Mich State, and Mich every year) is afraid of joining the Big 10 and losing their individual power to a Powerful Conference. WHY ELSE the ACC?

The ohio state defense was built for teams like notre dame. Look how wisconsin ran the ball and scored all over indiana and nebraska. They put up 63 and 70 on those teams by playing big man, rough football. Against ohio state, they were held to 7 points with 10 seconds remaining in the game.

    the same OSU that squeaked out wins against California, Indiana, UAB, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Sorry sweetheart, im from Ohio, theyre trash. Defense wins championships. Lets not all grow up to be fan boys.

    Now lets see some REAL Squeakers against bad teams. If the UAB game was a squeaker, whats that make the Irish game against Boston College? The Irish played even worse against Purdue than the Buckeyes did. How about your 3 point win against a 5 loss BYU? And none of us cant forget the legendary Notre Dame performance against a 6-6 Pitt team. 3 Overtimes? Questionable calls which probably had a direct effect on the outcome of that game?

    Notre Dame is a joke, still patting themselves on the back for accomplishments a century ago when guys wore leather helmets.
