Doesn't really matter, Sony, Canon, Nikon, or even Panasonic, if you know how to shoot they're all good, throw a coin, invest in one and you're good to go. At the end of the day, it's you, not the camera.

Nothing can replace photographic knowledge and artistic vision, but every brand has its own niggles and pain points, which makes it essential to know how each person's workflow and preferences fit in with those. To me, Panasonic create the closest thing to a perfect UX, which makes the process of creation something enjoyable and natural. No matter how good Nikon's lenses or Sony's AF are, their bodies have ergonomic and interface quirks that I detest, and they make my job less pleasant. To me, they most definitely are NOT the same, and I'd never pick a brand via dice throw, coin flip, or any other random method.

I bought this camera a few months ago, and its my first mirrorless camera. I must say this thing is a BEAST of a camera. So many options for shooting video, but its also a competent photography camera as well. I havent really had a chance to make full use of this camera yet but I plan to grow with it and learn all it can do. Love this camera so much. It punches so far above its class.

I recently purchased an S5II with a couple of Lumix lenses, so I appreciate the honest review (pros and cons) as well as saying Lumix is up there with the other top brands. Coming from Fuji, and in the more distant past Sony, I really appreciate the straight forward menu system. Thank you!!

I used the GH5 on manual focus since it came out (Seven years ago)..
Today's Panasonic's are better again, The Auto focus is about 98% of Sony's in practice.
But what you get instead on the S5iix and even on the G9ii I still important
e.g. record to faster, cheaper, bigger SSD(Not available on other Mirrorless.
Internal Pro res, best IBIS, Raw out etc.. That's cinema quality.
Also wide screen + 100mpixel photos.
Even when we worked with the Canon C2 we found the Older Gh5 to be more pragmatic and more fun
because Panasonic have unique Highlights and Shadows graph control.
you can raise / lower blacks, or lower the whites just like cinema Cameras.
(neither Sony, nor Canon has that ).
The latest Sony's with AI are good, but you have to decide which one to buy.
Canon R5 8k is unusable for us as it's only 4:2:0 and it still overheats at times.
I put Panasonic Full frame first
    Sony Second, Black magic third,
    and Canon, Nikon forth.
Panasonics image is much more resilient to post processing, and more forgiving when you +/- exposure mistakes.

I switched to the S5 years ago and I still use it with my S1R for all my paid sessions. I rarely used autofocus for video, so I wasn't concerned about that with the S5. I will say that the improved autofocus on the S5II is tempting though. Open gate is the main reason I'd be ready to upgrade.

    RUclipsrs gotta RUclips.
I don’t care if YTers get paid or persuaded by brands and companies.. I’ve been following these people for years and I want them to bank on every opportunity they get. The truth is that after a certain point.. ALL Camera’s are beyond good! And beyond the gear reviews, I want to follow the creator’s experiences instead of what gear of the week to obsess over. It makes sense for RUclipsrs to switch things up to gain more followers. We shouldn’t make it personal and the creators shouldn’t make it seem like it’s a breakup. Sure, use the Lumix brand but make sure you continue making content that can be valued by your existing subscribers. I know it will have to be more than gear reviews but we love seeing them in action. I also live in Toronto so I’d still watch her videos to see what’s going on in town regardless of what camera she uses. Anyways happy new year to you all!

I current shoot on the Canon EOS R, but the recording limit, 4k crop, hit-or-miss AF, plus no 3rd party lenses makes me tempted to move to a new platform. At the moment i am *possibly* going to trade in my gear to mpb or keh for a Lumix S5 iix. But, the Sony A7R IV definitely tempts me too. I do about a 65/35 split in favor of video for products/edc on RUclips and IG.

Today’s Cameras all pretty much create great images, but these small cinema like Primes are clean and something to behold. The Crop factor to me is an asset more than a loss. Sony's lack of update approach even updates for basic lens design issues such as focus breathing did it for me .

When you start out by saying that "they reached out to you" it's hard to think that you were thinking of switching in the first place. How coincidental that your eyes are gazing away from Sony just as Lumix reaches out to you and gee golly gosh, you just happened to think it's worth switching for awhile. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Sony or Lumix fanboy by any stretch. I just think the influence of free, complimentary, or loaner gear is hard to ignore. If Canon had reached out, this video would be about switching to Canon. We get it. RUclipsrs maybe can't be bought but they sure are easily pursuaded. Sorry Lizzie. I'm a long time fan and I think you create great content but we all know what's going on here. Just be honest. It's okay to just say Lumix loaned or gifted some free gear and you'll be using it. We don't need the "Sorry Sony fans" speech.

As for the lens complaining. Well how many lens dose one need. The L lens cover all focal range needed. 18mm to 100mm in prime lens and a few good zoon lenes. The L lens are always made for filming over photos. Diff would recommend to get the S5ii or x.

Though FF I am more comfortable with Sony due to the lens choices. Their body ergo needs some fine tuning though.
APS-C is Fuji for me. Their lenses and body combo is a fun system to use. Still rocking the X-T3 till today. Those moments of, let me just shoot with this and that recipe.
At the end of the day, I don’t tie myself down to a brand and be loyal, I just see their price, features and lens choices. That right moment is where I will just pick them up and use it.

The only thing I don’t get is when someone has a camera, then harps on how a new similar camera is cheaper. Cheaper doesn’t matter after you already have the other camera. You’re basically doubling the cost, especially if you don’t have the lenses. It’s just increasing cost to “see” how you like it unless you’ve been sponsored.
Personally, I think when one is sponsored by a new company, they should have to turn over their “old” gear or buy the new gear. That way, either folks will review because they really want to vs being swayed by free gear. Ie genuine interest in the product.

Lumix cameras will catch up in AF performance. SONY is ahead for AF but AF is not everything about a camera. I also like the haptics and ergonomics of the Lumix cameras and nearly all dials and buttons can be easily programmed to the photographers taste. The L-Mount allicance is growing and the lens-portfolio too. Sigma did release a lot of new lenses in the past months and they will continue to do so in the future. Also Panasonic has some new lenses to be expected (in their official lens-raodmap). It depends what a photographer needs. If it's always the best AF performance, then I think, SONY is still the brand to choose.
I am happy with my S5 II and will stay with Panasonic.

Unfortunately Panasonic has only 7 FPS for photography which is not enough for my purpose. It's shame because it's very good except 7 FPS photos issues.

I switched from the A7C to the S5ii and have loved it. IMO the S5ii's autofocus is very comparable to the A7C/A7III/A6600 generations of cameras, but I havent been able to use anything after those cameras so maybe the newest cameras have better autofocus, but for me its great. I shoot weddings, fashion shows and work in studio with portraits and havent had any issues, plus the stabilization is amazing.

I'm a hybrid shooter and I use the S5II after switching from Canon. Sony was far too expensive and because I was shooting more video at the time, not needing autofocus, the original S5 was perfect for me as the video capability was up there with Sony for half the price. It's not as good on the stills side, which is a slight issue for me because I now shoot more stills but it still works well in dynamic conditions with challenging lighting environments, things like weddings and events. You do have to get used to the autofocus system and like Lizzie says, you have to work out the one that works for you. I havent had complaints from any of my clients. Also I haven't had an issue with lenses, I use Sigma exclusively and they work directly with Lumix to compete or even outmuscle the over-expensive native lenses. The MC21 adapter is good but it makes rhe autofocus even worse, I have now switched all my lenses over to L mount. If you're a wildlife or sports snapper, forget it, don't buy this camera but for most other things, it's perfectly usable and affordable. Nicely summed up I think, Lizzie and ignore the haters, you were very clear you weren't actually switching and you were just testing new gear for free which is your right because you've earned it. KIU 😊

It's funny, though, anyone who sees me at a wedding or knows a little about photography says why haven't you got a Sony and think I'm mad shooting with a Lumix. Then they see the images at the end and can't tell the difference 😂

People are mad that Lumix is doing what Canon and Sony have been doing for years with creators. Who remembers when all youtubers trashed the 6d mk ii and then they all started using it? Or when all youtubers put out their, "Why I switched to Sony videos?" It's all marketing. Just use what you use and be happy.

I've been using the original Lumix S5 for awhile now, and am perfectly happy with it aside from the autofocus. But working in the film industry, autofocus isnt such a big deal. Otherwise, Lumix cameras packs a lot of features for videos. Its more geared towards videos. The image IQ is really good. And colors are just as good if not better than Canon

When I look at a brand I look at their lens selection more than the body. The body from dofferent brand all has its strong point here and there. The determine factor to pick a system more come down to the lens. When I look at L lens. There is no inieresting lens caught my attention. There is no my favourate focal length Tamron 35-150 for Sony and Nikon. There is no lens like 28-70 f2 from Canon. Their 24-70 and 70-200 f2.8 are very heavy. If I switch system to S5II, I could not find replacement for those lens I love. Actually their own m4/3 system has way more interesting lens than their L mount.
