Had a 2018 spark, traded it for a truck. Don’t use the truck as a truck enough to keep it. Planned on going back to a spark, once I paid the truck down a little. Found out they were discontinuing them for ‘23, rushed to a dealer. I was unable to order one, but ONE was gonna be built as I wanted. Dealer reserved it, just hit customs this week. Within a month should be all mine! Gonna be a financial hit, but couldn’t let this opportunity slip by.
Great review as always! The Chevy Spark was once on my list. I really hate to see these little runabouts go away but, with larger vehicles now rivaling their fuel economy, I guess the time has come. I once traded a Chevy Silverado Crew Cab for a Ford Fiesta. When money suddenly got tight I had to get rid of the truck immediately. So, I went shopping for an econobox. When I test drove the Fiesta I melted in the driver's seat! It was so nimble, zippy and fun to drive that I just couldn't stop driving it. I bought that car that day and loved it so much that I bought another Fiesta a few years later! I love the way these little cars whip and zip around and save gas (40 mpg)! They're so easy to maneuver and park that you never hesitate to hop in go just about anywhere. So yeah, I hate to see it go away.
Thanks! Wow going from Silverado to Fiesta would be a big change for sure. I agree that these little cars benefit from being very lightweight which makes them feel quicker than they are.
GM finally built a great car, easy on fuel.nice looks...why are they not building it anymore...I don't understand in these days of high gas prices..sad to see it go
It is sad for sure. Hopefully something else will come in the future that in around the $20k price point but that will be hard to imagine with prices these days.
I have one on order, expecting to see it in a month or two. My brother has a 2016 LS with about 97k on it with no problems and 45-50mpg, so I figured I should get one as a spare car while I still can. I ordered the 2LT because I have the GM card and a boatload of earnings to apply so I can get all the options while paying LS prices. Just had to find a dealer that'd sell at MSRP. It's a fantastic commuter car for one or two. The auto press can't judge it for its intended mission and instead lament that it doesn't seat 8 or have AWD or have a 300hp engine option. They're 1d10ts.
Great to hear that you are getting one before they are gone! The 2LT trim has more features which I tend to deem "must have's" anymore like proximity entry while still being very affordable. Which color did you choose?
@@CarsMadeSimple I chose the Cayenne Orange. It should prove to be a rare color and it's a dead ringer for the 1975/1976 Buick/Cadillac color they called Firethorn back then. I like the keyless start and also heated seats shared with the Activ. It should be a great commuter.
This “spark” is one of the kind ❤ I just got my Spark Activ 2022 and I love it 🥰 Is a very solid little car 🚘 I did 80 m/h for two hours with 3 passengers and it runs very smoothly. Don’t know why Chevrolet won’t make this awesome car 🚗 (2022 last production 😭) I have a Trail Boss 2021 Silverado also So I’m so happy to have such another beauty car in my life. I won’t trade either one 😅
It's sad that more Americans don't appreciate cars like this. Small cars are a lot more fun to drive, easier to maneuver, more efficient, and cheaper to buy. Hatchbacks are so practical and versatile, too. I previously owned a 2014 Mirage that I bought new. Aside from the caveats, such as it being woefully slow and noisy with the unbalanced 3cyl engine, I actually loved that car and it got a surprising amount of love from strangers, family, and friends. With the seat folded I could fit my bicycle in the rear without removing a wheel, which surprised people. The Spark seems like it's a more well-rounded vehicle. I like this Active trim, aside from the execution of that unpainted rear bumper. They should have treated it with partial paint, similar to the front.
I agree! It would be nice to see smaller vehicle make a comeback but I have a feeling they never will. The driving dynamics of a small, light vehicle feel so much better vs a large, heavy vehicle. At the end of the day most people care about comfort and size hence SUV and trucks.
@@CarsMadeSimple yes if all goes well I'm getting an LS this weekend 😊. It's the most popular trim especially for the please-keep-things-simple type of driver. But the activ looks very cool, basically the sports package. Are the roof rails good for transporting things or are they just for show?
I just bought one Monday. It's a ACTIV and love it. I also have 2019 LT1 manual and get 41 MPG on the freeway. There are not many left. I found 4 within 250 miles of Minneapolis. Good video.
I had a 2019 I sold in Feb thinking it would be easy to get a new one. ... I finally just put a deposit on a new 2022, I love them and am sad they won't continue on
Good video man. It really is a shame about these cars. I actually just picked up a 2022 base LS with the 5-speed. Believe it or not I actually sold my 2018 Mustang GT premium manual and went down to the spark. Got sick of paying for all the gas between the Mustang and my Sierra. I've been extremely satisfied with the spark the manual is smooth it's quick for what it is and super cheap on gas. The build quality seems to be quite good as well but time will tell the tail as far as that goes. Keep up the good work with the reviews
Thanks for the comment! We have had two extreme cases of swapping a totally different vehicle out for the Spark. I am glad to hear it seems solid. It has been around for some time which should help the quality overall.
I'm ordering mine tomorrow, Sept the 16th. My local dealer says they're still taking orders and building these through 2023. I'm getting the ACTIV trim pkg with a manual drive
All the articles from earlier in 2022 state that production for the Spark was ending in August 2022. Given the Spark is not getting a 2023MY, I would be surprised if production goes past fall of this year if it hasn't already ended.
@@CarsMadeSimple I just ordered the ACTIV trim pkg / Silver Ice / 5 speed manual about 30 minutes ago. The option to order it is still on the dealers computer, on his desk, inside the dealership.
@@CarsMadeSimple One other thing. The dealer put in for a 2023 model to see what would happen and it wasn't an available option. He put in 2022 and it was available to order
i used to live in the US about 7 years and i had never seen people driving this car. now i drive spark here in korea. many koreans drive this car but it seems like americans dont like small cars like spark
This is mostly true. Americans generally do not like smaller cars such as this but there is definitely still demand just not enough to justify selling them here.
Actually I have owned one since 2016 with a manual transmission I had no issue with it at all and it has 170000 kilometers on the clock About me I am going to miss this car because I was waiting for the next generation of it 😞
Manufacturers must honor warranty claims for vehicles that have been discontinued. Most will support them after that for several years. If not, there will always be 3rd party or used parts available given the amount of Sparks sold in the US.
@@gloriamiller2473I understand completely Gloria 😢. This Chevy was quite the addition to the subcompact segment. But GM just could not get the margin they wanted from it. This one is one of two top trim levels fully loaded , the other one being 2lt. Personally I think all that chrome is ridiculous on a car this size in the "economy" class. Spark customers accounted for about 68% of purchases from new GM customers, but they were not buying these fancy chrome trim levels . It was the base LS which was the most popular But that's what happens when companies focus on margin over volume sales I guess....🤔
