This car gives me flashbacks to my 1994 Geo Metro hatchback with 5spd and 3 cylinder…68hp of fury and 0-60 in some day. Plastic steering wheel, a black plate delete because the radio was a factory option (mine didn’t come with one), 12” wheels, etc…and that car was so damn reliable and frugal on fuel. I would consistently drive from Detroit to Buffalo and back for $20 in fuel…round trip. It was meant to be cheap transportation and it certainly was, but it was incredibly reliable and incredibly cheap to maintain. That Geo was actually a Suzuki that GM rebadged for their brand line. Suzuki has always made fantastic vehicles and it’s a shame they left the American market.
1:37 I glanced away for a second and turned back at this moment and thought I had clicked on a Honda Jazz/Fit video! Didn’t realize how similar they look from the front on
@@CarConfections Yes, the car is so silly I think it should be higher, the 0-60 is smile worthy, the body roll is so silly it is also smile worthy. I think it should be a solid 2/5, or 3/5. That is crazy! I didn't know Mirage is sold in the US. I think its counterpart cars like Toyota Vios, Honda City, Suzuki Dzire and Hyundai Accent are not sold in the US.
These things are dangerously slow! It should be criminal to have this little horsepower. An older lady driving one attempted to do a u-turn across 4 lanes of 60 mph traffic, totaled my car a couple years ago. Her explanation: “The car would not accelerate.” 🤦🏾♂️
@@JudgementoKazzy that is understandable, as Europe is much more compact in comparison to most of America. Due to our interstate systems and driving patterns, it is exceedingly dangerous for a car to not have the capacity to perform with the flow of traffic. Efficiency can be argued reasonably, however, the point stands.

thats the point. not everyone out there are car freaks..they just need a car to do their jobs,to go for work, grocery stores, holidays, with out to empty their pockets with expensive maintence, expensive insurances and services. and i am really happy that cars like this mitsubishi still exist.
My local dealer said they sell many of these to retirees who just want something to get around. They are upset they are discontinuing them because word has spread with retirees. Back in day the US had tons of these little cars. We have a short memory. They do not want you to have to cheaper cars any longer with a100k warranty. Those thin tires cut through ice and snow.
And better built than the Xforce, since it's a global car. Xforce is made for SEA and other developing markets with bottom tier standards. Global = sold in developed countries, like US, Europe, Korea, Japan, ANZ.
Let time you guys reviewed a car this cheap was a 2020 Kia Rio. It’s quite entertaining to see cars be this cheap in a world full of technology and luxury advanced vehicles 😂. Even the gauges are a throwback. Any parent would love this for their teenager as a first car. Even though those wheels are TINY. My bike had larger wheels than this 😭.
Here in the Philippines they sold it at zero downpayment and the start of the first amortization is the 3rd month. Our issue here with mirage is bad suspension components that break in potholes or speed bumps and the very skinny disc brakes.
Man, the back of the car looks fantastic. Seriously, they still know how to make good-looking sporty exteriors. Makes me wonder how it would look if they made a new Eclipse sedan
It would be hilariously cool if they made a version of this car with a turbo/supercharger. Honestly tiny platforms like these are a lot of fun with a bit of extra power
Got myself an second hand Mitsubishi Attrage (Mirage) 2015 since i just got my license and it work very well for a new driver and able to go from point A to point b plus fuel eco is good. While I am living in asia and our highway speed is max at around 56mph (90kmh), this car drive well at that speed or even higher at 66mph (105kmh) which is enough for our road.
These cars are the norm in Southeast Asia. What Americans call compact cars are actually large, more expensive cars here. So small cars like the Mirage is actually the bread and butter for manufacturers.
Yea but over there safety regulations aren't as high so physically smaller cars can have bigger interiors, add in that the average south east asian is much much shorter than the average American and you understand why...
I find interesting how the interior "lower quality" materials are always durable plastic and most of the time last longer that "high quality" materials on luxury cars

This reminds me of economy cars from the 90's. Super basic. But several auto makers have figured out how to make a more desirable inexpensive car (chevy Trax I'm looking at you). I think if Mitsubishi followed that example they would have a car that sold much better than this Mirage.
You sure about that? Those Mirages are very reliable. Some have gone over 200K miles. The 3x lasting as long from the Corolla is stretching it, especially from the new Corollas which aren't as good or reliable as the old one.
I have a 2024, owned it for just over 5 months and its been great, better highway performance than I expected, paint quality is good, easy to drive, good on fuel & has a very attractive price point. Thanks for a good honest review of their car and reviewing it for what it is. After owning 3 Mirages a 2015, 2017, 2021 all purchased new and my co worker owning 3 Mirages a 2015, 2019 and 2021 she still owns. Not 1 issue with any. Great lil cars with hybrid level MPGs, 10 year warranty, tons of features, and cheap to own and run with a basic reliable engine. Either go with the base model ES or the top trim SE. going with this Black Edition trim is kind of a waste when the top trim SE is almost the exact same price but you get push button start, keyless buttons or door and trunk outside, led headlights, fog lights, premium multi color back lit gauge cluster and heated seats. So again either get the base ES trim or the top trim SE. i know the top trim SE is harder to find but if you can scoop one up. I drove 3 hours to get my top trim 2015 Mirage, 1.5 hours to get my 2017 top trim Mirage G4 and 1 hours to get my 2021 Mirage top trim. They do great in the snow as well living in the tristate area of MD-WV-PA where we get snow during the winter I can attest to that. I can hands down say of all the new cars I have bought I have never bought the same car twice until the Mirage and did them 3 times lol. I currently own a 2023 Nissan Kicks SR Premium top trim I bought new in October 2023 cause I needed something a lil bigger and could not pass up the deal I was offered. However there are alot of days I miss my Mirage and if I could go back I probably would have kept my 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage SE or traded it on a 2024 Mirage G4 SE even though it would have been the same as the one I owned. I do absolutely love my Kicks though and all the features its just the Mirage has a uniqueness all its own you cant explain until you own one or several and experience its reliability, fun nature, hybrid like mpg, loads of standard features, and that neat lil buzzy naturally aspirated 3 cylinder engine makes it so unique like the modern day Chevy Metro lol.
Why would you buy the same car 2 years after the first? I lease fun cars for fun and pleasure, put hardly any miles on them, and don't replace them that quickly. The Mirage is largely regarded as the worst FWD vehicle to drive in the snow due to the thin, low-adhesion tires. It replaced the VW "New" Beetle as the worst when that went out of production. (The Beetle suffered from a suspension design flaw that made it incredibly difficult to drive in snow.)
It does make it to 60😂 The best thing about it is the price, and warranty. 10 year 100,000 miles. I am also surprised it comes with rain sensing wipers. There needs to be more affordable cars, but the Mirage is not it. You should be able to merge onto a highway without fear your gonna die. No matter how cheap a car is.
Wasn't there a whole movement of people upset over the price of new cars? Meanwhile this, the versa, and venue exist? I swear, you can't be poor and picky. Gotta pick your battles.
I wish you guys wouldn't shit on this car. yes, its cheap. Yes, theres no power. Yes, the interior is cheap. Why is it a surprise that its slow? Not everything is about speed. This is a great car for a college kid
Also, when this car was $14k out the door in 2014-15: i could understand the arguement for it, sort of. 18k gets you A LOT of really nice used cars that are not a short freeway ramp deathmatch.
These were truly affordable in 2014-2021 when commonly $3-4000 off MSRP. I nearly bought one in 2020 for $10,000. I can’t imagine over $15,000 for one of these! I’d buy a Sentra discounted.
Yup! Some places have a lot of dealers, like Florida, and California. But my aunt lives in Bullhead City, Arizona, and her closest dealer is in Las Vegas, Nevada, 120 miles each way, 240 miles round trip.

glad this price point gives you an interior. Pleasant surprise.
just _barely_ though the base trim doesn't even have a center armrest! Interior is using the term loosely
I had the same car. I put 240,000 miles on it. I loved that little car. I was religious about oil changes and put premium gas in it most of the time.
1:37 I glanced away for a second and turned back at this moment and thought I had clicked on a Honda Jazz/Fit video! Didn’t realize how similar they look from the front on
I can see it
I got one about a year ago. I love it. The gas milage is off the chart.
I started laughing at the 0-60 was so funny took 1 minute
It is a smile worthy 0-60.
We did smile a lot so maybe it should have been a 5 on the smile meter? 😂
@@CarConfections Yes, the car is so silly I think it should be higher, the 0-60 is smile worthy, the body roll is so silly it is also smile worthy. I think it should be a solid 2/5, or 3/5. You can drive it hard and feel like you're about to flip over or blow it up while still being within the speed limit too.
@@digitaljon1109 Smile because you're laughing so hard?
That is crazy! I didn't know Mirage is sold in the US. I think its counterpart cars like Toyota Vios, Honda City, Suzuki Dzire and Hyundai Accent are not sold in the US.
The only new vehicle in North America with less than 100hp
But nobody is expected to track a Mirage.
@davidmccarthy6061 not expected to loose race with a bicycle either.
@@guniseran 😭😭 that’s a lot of horsepower for scooter wheels
One of the most detailed, CONSUMER-FOCUSED car reviewers out there. Like literraly focused on what you look for in a car! I subscribed for the interior measurements!!! 🙌
Thank you and welcome to the Car Confections family!
thats the point. not everyone out there are car freaks..they just need a car to do their jobs,to go for work, grocery stores, holidays, with out to empty their pockets with expensive maintence, expensive insurances and services. and i am really happy that cars like this mitsubishi still exist.
In SEA, this is very popular. It is not just but surprisingly DURABLE. My cousin's and Friend's Mirage reached 200k no big issue at all
And better built than the Xforce, since it's a global car. Xforce is made for SEA and other developing markets with bottom tier standards.
Global = sold in developed countries, like US, Europe, Korea, Japan, ANZ.
“It does have an interior at this price point” -Drew Hardesty 😂
6:50 “indeed you do get an interior at this price point”
this is so funny
I have this. 7 months in, the car feels like it has already driven 100,000 miles than a new one even though mine is 2,500km in
Let time you guys reviewed a car this cheap was a 2020 Kia Rio.
Cheap to maintain
Lots of parts. Easy to repair
And that's being used as a taxi here in the Philippines
So it's good and fun to own one
The versa looks miles better in every way.
The last of an affordable car that Americans can afford and gets you where you need to go without the ego!
My second comment on this car, very impressive. But, that hp number is bad, give this thing 100 hp it would be excellent.
I find interesting how the interior "lower quality" materials are always durable plastic and most of the time last longer that "high quality" materials on luxury cars
I had two .A hatchback then traded it for a G4.Unfortunatly i totalled the G4.Yeah theyre not fast but you drive it like its a regular car.I miss them both
I love the Mirage. I remember my dad got one as a rental. He hated it. I loved it. They're so basic they're fun. It's not for everybody, and I like 2nd rate things. I really love the Mirage. My wife would hate it, but I'd totally rock one, even as an old fart.
I love my mirage 2015 manual transmission. Best car ever. They need to keep and bring back the manual transmission.
I remember when the Honda civic used to be this basic in the 90’s
I had one. It had 90 hp. I owned it for 13 years. It was slow but it was reliabe as sin. I worked in city so it was perfect for me.
pretty common here in the Philippines alongside the Vios tbh, i see them EVERYWHERE.
For anyone concerned with the reliability of these Mirages, check out the Turd Pails and Trails channel, dude maintains a fleet of these in canada and they all have crazy miles!
In Jamaica we call em the attrage and the 3 cycliner engine and cvt trans was soooo thrash... Literally floored it 98% of the time to get anywhere
Why do you floor it? I have one, and use about 1,600 RPM in town, and on the freeway I go 55 MPH.
I hear some small cars you have to drive them like you stole them to stay with today’s crazy traffic. It can be done.
@@stevenpollard5171 You don't need to. I just drive it slow, it's fine if you don't keep up, it's good to not, it saves a lot of gas taking it slow.
@@extralock1045 how are you still alive? I live in Southern California when most traffic travels at 80. You will get driven off the road at 55. You are either lying or a very dangerous driver.
@@goclunker I am neither. I've drove a ton here, never got close to ran off the road. I struggle in the city, too much going on. But on the highway I am fine. I drove 3,000 miles recently with a retired driving instructor in the car, she was fine with it.
Going 55 is fine just stay in the far right lane.
This reminds me of economy cars from the 90's. Super basic. But several auto makers have figured out how to make a more desirable inexpensive car (chevy Trax I'm looking at you). I think if Mitsubishi followed that example they would have a car that sold much better than this Mirage.
This is certainly one of the vehicles of all time.
Good, honest review
It's refreshing to watch this review.
Excellent review and happy Friday!😸
Thanks! You too!
By swapping a 4G63 turbo engine into this Mirage, and upgrading the seats, suspension, and dampers, the Mitsubishi Mirage Evolution will be complete.
how will you make it awd???
Love your car video ❤❤❤❤❤❤
74hp is crazy even for under 20k at that price I’d rather just have a used 2020-2022 Corolla that has more power and will last 3x as long
You sure about that?
Those Mirages are very reliable. Some have gone over 200K miles.
The 3x lasting as long from the Corolla is stretching it, especially from the new Corollas which aren't as good or reliable as the old one.
@@tom11zz884most mirage drivers are dead, due to getting run over on the freeway trying to merge while the car is barely moving because of the 4 hp.lol
Cool...but to each their own! How its look appears to the many is subjective. ♐
Thats like saying this dog sht is prettier than that dog sht. Its still aht😂
Its a reliable dependable and easy to maintain car
I’m happy with my 2020versa but still good to have an affordable car !
Thin kids play car testers and do think, that 15in rims are the smallest ones imaginable .... ^^ Back then that was considered premium!

I have a 2024, owned it for just over 5 months and its been great, better highway performance than I expected, paint quality is good, easy to drive, good on fuel & has a very attractive price point. The drivetrain is well suited to this segment and has been a great trouble free platform. It's an economy car that is well designed and easy on the wallet, something that is fading as the years go on, cars like this are already missed and the daft CEOs in the car companies are too dumb to realize it.
I can't believe they sell such a slow car and it was considered one of the worst Mitsubishi vehicles in the past. This car is just for going to the supermarket and that's it. Love Drew.
A used car is such a better proposition
I think I'm gonna trade in my M3 on one of these bad boys after watching this. Thanks for the very insightful video!
This for sure will outlast your BMW though lol
if you say so
Goodness, first impression is that it’s a good looking little car !
So you’re telling me. The versa is cheaper, but offers more?!
It's worse, because the transmission on the versa will break
@ do people not know that Nissans improved their cvt’s? Don’t people know that if you service cvt’s they will last? Nissans reputation got so bad even though their cvt’s are good now.
@@unboxings5218 I drove a 2024 Versa as a rental and it only had 3000 miles, but the transmission already felt jerky and sluggish.
So I can only speak from experience.
@@nathanmjackson1210 The Nissan Versa has the exact CVT as the Mitsubishi Mirage, same with the Nissan Sentra. Just change the fluid every 30,000 miles, as well as the filter, and it will be good!
@@nathanmjackson1210 These CVT's are jerky, that's how they are, it's like that from the factory. It's not broken, it just isn't the smoothest.
I love Mitsubishi cars. The Outlander has so many creature comforts. Sad they do not sell better in the USA.
74 horsepower is nasty work LOL
For 37 mpg I could forgive that. CVTs are pretty impressive for how much power they can wring out of a given motor. I rented a Sentra S with a CVT for a week and it was pretty zippy despite the 1.8 motor
I get 53.3 on average over 33,000 miles in my Mirage.

Hey Kmckenzie! Good to see you here too!
I miss your little Mirage videos.
@@tim3172 If I am not mistaking, he replaced them every 2-3 years just for a change.
@@digitaljon1109You too! Thank you 😊

Great video guys 👏 Lifelong car nut loving wheels of all types. Only problem is I still just can't decide between this and the McLaren 💀
See this video and glad we still have saga and persona.
I have to admit I love the way the back of this car looks
i like the mirage, its more than i need
I’d prefer the Nissan Versa only because it has a 5 speed. I HATE CVTs!
Imagine if they made an Evo Mirage like the GR Corolla to the base Corolla.

I have a 1997 Mirage DE and it’s still running strong. Other people in my family have more expensive cars and they’re always having issues.
Same with my 1997 LS Mitsubishi Mirage (Technica Trim)
“ Should you go to your local Mitsubishi and snap one? “ … UMMM NO SIR, NO WE DO NOT. 😅
14:18 - It sounds like a speedboat... 🤣
😭😭😭
It does make it to 60😂 The best thing about it is the price, and warranty. 10 year 100,000 miles. I am also surprised it comes with rain sensing wipers. There needs to be more affordable cars, but the Mirage is not it. You should be able to merge onto a highway without fear your gonna die. No matter how cheap a car is.
I could see the Mirage coming back as a Versa clone
Wasn't there a whole movement of people upset over the price of new cars? Meanwhile this, the versa, and venue exist? I swear, you can't be poor and picky. Gotta pick your battles.
All with a CVT that will break quickly, though this is offered in a reliable manual too

I wish you guys wouldn't shit on this car. yes, its cheap. Yes, theres no power. Yes, the interior is cheap. Why is it a surprise that its slow? Not everything is about speed. This is a great car for a college kid
Or a senior citizen that just goes around town.
I don’t feel like they really shit on it….. could be much worse considering how awful it is 😂😂
That wasn't the vibe at all though. If anything this car should be less expensive
i feel they were pretty nice on it lol esp compared to other critics
Or retirees to putter around town. Or low-income people who need dependable transportation with a solid warranty and cheap gas fill-ups.
Might not beat 5.0s and Challengers, but nice nonetheless.
Dude you won’t even beat a Corolla lol
Awesome. Actually looks pretty decent.
These cars are perfect for anyone that just want to have a vehicle regardless of looks and features.
Wait ... there are still Mitsubishi Dealerships?! 🤔
Yup! Some places have a lot of dealers, like Florida, and California. But my aunt lives in Bullhead City, Arizona, and her closest dealer is in Las Vegas, Nevada, 120 miles each way, 240 miles round trip.
