I waited six months for delivery of my 2022 LS 5 speed. Driving it to the grocery store makes me feel like I'm in a rally; it's FUN! Manual transmission, manual windows & mirrors, and no buttons on the key. It's like 1975 again. Hell, I'd pay extra for that. 15 grand out the door. Very underrated car.
I got the 2017 LS 5 speed w/ 22k miles for $6900 back in 2020. The only repair I had to do was a $25 purge control valve solenoid that I replaced myself last month. Just hit 100k miles.
Oh yeah, absolutely those would be great scenarios. As far as buying more than you need... that's basically ever car. If you're going to spend huge money on a vehicle though, you should probably get what you want, even if it's more than you "need"

I have a 2022 LT 5 speed manual Spark. I bought this car for running around and have fallen in love with it. It’s actually fun to drive. My main vehicle is a truck. But filling my Spark for one third of the cost is also nice. I now drive my Spark to work and hardly drive my truck.
Bought a 5-sp manual Spark 2 years ago and absolutely LOVE it. Not quite the Subaru I'm used to but so fun, inexpensive, plenty of room for me, and a surprisingly smooth ride with firm handling.
I bought a 2017 model Chevy Spark brand new. I never had any trouble with it so I bought another brand new one in 2019. Also did not have any trouble with it. When I traded it in, the dealer had it on their website for $7,000 above the trade-in value they gave me and that was $2,000 above the MSRP in 2019. All I ever did was change the engine oil every 5,000 miles and drove it "normally". In other words, it is a commuter car so if someone wants to cut me off, I don't go racing after them. It is really too bad that Chevrolet no longer offers this car in 2023. I would have very happily bought my third one. IMHO it takes two hands to clap, in other words, reliability depends on how the owner treats the car as much as how the manufacturer makes the car. Reply
I bought mine new in April 2021. The bare bones model, manual windows, no cruise, no keyfob etc. Frankly, I'd have preferred a manual transmission except there were none left at the dealership. Still. I've got 30 K miles on it now and while it's not perfect I'm pretty happy with it. I'm in Phoenix Arizona and the AC handles the furnace here very well. It drives surprisingly well and I've been on several long trips with it. During my visit to Los Angeles I got it up to 100. I don't normally drive like that and don't recommend it but it was surprising how easily it managed it. Cruising around the freeway system here in the Phoenix area 80 seems to be it's sweet spot. I change the oil every 5K miles and don't normally push the car. I find it to be perfectly fine for my needs and has an excellent radio and Android Auto capability. I'm disappointed in GM for discontinuing it. I believe that was a mistake. They are constantly pushing me to trade it in for a new Trax. I like the look of the Trax but don't believe it's as simple a vehicle as the Spark and I've heard some disturbing things from some people who own them. So I'll likely be keeping the spark for some time to come. Best part about it is the easy payment. Very happy with that as it's enabling me to pay off other debts I wasn't able to before. I don't need to spent 30 plus K on a vehicle I don't need and can't afford.
I had one as a long term rental because I was in that wait list for the ford TCM. My impression is that's a good city car or second car for someone who just needs a runabout. While not a speed demon had enough get up and go to merge, change lanes and keep up with traffic. On a day off made went to costco and I got all my paper products, food etc. in the car. The ride was a little rough but about the same as any car this size. Quite a bit of bang for your buck. Besides I don't need automatic climate control. I'm too hot turn the dial to the left and if you're too cold turn it to the right and the A/C did work well.
I drove one once when my car was totaled. I found that I love these little cars. Bigger on the inside than you'd expect and fun and nimble. Lacks power on the freeway, but for running around town its perfect. Currently work from home, but do have things to do around town - would totally buy one of these over a monster truck that every goober out there buys.
I loved my 2016 Chevrolet Spark. The stereo system was surprisingly crisp, clear, loud sound. Maps on the screen via the phone was nice too. I had a dark gray (almost black) color model with limo tint. I would take it on road trips from Las Vegas Nevada to California.
I got a no-frills 2017 LS 5 speed back in 2020 for $6900 w/ 22k miles on it. I just hit 100k miles last month and the only repair I've had to do with a $25 purge control valve solenoid. Working on the car is super easy.
I own a 2019 Spark LT1, never had an issue with it. Great car, good power to weight. Lot's to love about that generation of the Spark. The headlights are great, both the low beams and high beams are on when you are on high beams. Really bright. The rear seat section can be removed without tools, the backrest of the back seat folds a lot better when the seats are removed. Best low cost small car I ever had, I'll drive it till it dies on me 😂 Money in the bank 👍
Love them on my third, just trading for different colors. Sure it may not make 0 to 60 like a Camero but I make 40 city and an honest 44 highway. I hope they offer them with manual transmissions, windows as just a delightful little car that does just what it needs to do.
This would be a great first car. I had a Nissan Micra. Small cars are so easy to work on and modify for the track. You can oil change this without jacking up since the pan and filter are so close to the front.
I bought my little sparky a year ago , mine is LTZ + , 1.4 engine and I must say that I was very surprised in a good way , especially with the fuel ⛽️ i was driving like 190 miles and I was surprised to see that I still had half tank of fuel , even my dad was , does she eat fuel or she just smell it 🤣😂, my speed was between 55 miles to 70 , and yeah I was surprised, sparky is a small car like we all knows but believe me she’s full of surprises in a good way , this car is perfect for single/couple maybe even for a small family . But dam I love it 🥰😻
I rented one of these to drive around Hawaii recently (I don't know the model year.) It was fun to drive around in, even on the highways. It had good pep to it.
I would recommend getting the oil changed every 5,000 mi. Preferably with synthetic oil. It also wouldn't hurt to just get a full maintenance inspection on it Every 6 months , have them go over everything. Pretty easy to maintain, and not too expensive. I bought a used 2020 just two years ago; so far only had to change the brakes and battery. The heat in Phoenix drains batteries. Absolutely love my little guy. That's his name. Absolute blast drive , I use him for both city driving and occasionally take him on the road to California. It's mainly a city car, not exactly built for long distance driving. But if you take care of it a Spark will last you. Final thought, I'd recommend just taking your car to the Chevy dealership to get it serviced. This is what I do because independent mechanics will often try to take advantage of you especially if you are a woman (talking from experience). The actual dealer will just let you know upfront what's going on, no surprises.
Thank you for your comment. Ive owned Sparky from new (2016). She gets regular check ups and fluid changes as needed by a Chevrolet dealership, in the past.
