where can i go to learn how to drive a manual transmission?
Scotty any thoughts on a Ford Taurus 2011 with 38k miles on it? Looking forward to buy one soon
You should've got SparkEV with 400 ft-lb torque motor.
This is the Fourth generation of the Spark, the M400, the previous version M300 is manufactured in Colombia for latin america and it's pretty popular within the cheap car segment, only manuals are offered. Unfortunately this car is sold with incomplete airbags in South America, If they were complete I'd be driving one in the city these days :)
Scotty Kilmer it would probably be cheaper at doing a manual transmission swap
We need more budget cars like this in the US since car makers have lost thier damn minds on new car pricing!
We feel the same in Europe too. There are no cheap cars . Some of us want just a mule not a luxury/fancy box.
Same thing in the Middle East car prices are crazy
Ford completely ditched the car market in North America, dropped the whole lineup, they only sell crossover SUV and trucks now. I am not convinced its entirely consumer demand driving that decision. Gov regulations and making more money on larger vehicles plays a role and its convenient for them to shape their consumers wants to make them think they need bigger.
Because of the UAW! Gotta love unions for making pay fair, gotta hate that the cost has always been passed to the customer 😂
What the hell is poor people supposed to do? Really dumb on GMs part.
I love Scotty's car recommendations, all about practicality, never like other car-pros praising an expensive car for the sake of looking pro
Good point! Scotty is for the people!
Well said
Just traded my Cadillac Xt5 for a new Spark. $17k out the door, done paying these over inflated prices.
Scotty accidentally called it the Sonic in the intro
Valor_X the ⚡️ spark plug 😂
Kerry L the sonic looks more sporty than the spark ⚡️ tbh
I catch that too
I rented one in Hawaii with 35 thousand plus miles and it was the biggest piece of crap ever. My first car was a 57 VW with a 36 hp engine and it was better than the Spark.
May as well have been a Sonic... both are pieces of crap
Scotty recommending a GM product: an end-times sign in the Bible.
😂😂😂😂👌🏻
Lol!
😂
He'd probably recommend a Holden for the same reason: GM has nothing to do with it!
Lol

Literally that happened to me
Was watching his video on why extended warranty's were a scam. And the commercial that played in the middle was an extended warranty company heh.
So it wasn't just me, lol. I got a chuckle out of that too!
How did this happen to me too...
I just bought one for my son, I was pleasantly surprised! Nice little car, good gas mileage, just enough gadgets, AND it has a chain, not a timing belt! This car is a sleeper!
Chain vs timing belt? Which means what? Is that one with the cvt or with the manual tran In it?
@@vg2binkey884 Both transmissions have a chain instead of a belt. A belt just means it won't (typically) eventually wear out & break over time like the usual rubber timing belt.
I bet on scottys will, he’s going to give his whole family all Chrysler products as a last laugh
He will give them a 300 as a gift
Or Nissan!!!!!

I agree about this car. My wife and I rented one (same colour!) when we went to Vancouver. We rented it for a month and my wife extended the rental for another 2 weeks after. We loved the car. It's nimble, you can park it absolutely anywhere, etc.
I own the base model of this car and I love it. Roll up windows, manual mirrors, but I enjoy it. It gets me from point A to point B with no issues
I have the predecessor, the Chevy Matiz, 1.0, 110k miles, man, four airbags, a/c, power windows all around, power window locks (for safety) and man, I love, love my little car.
I have the base LS model too. I got it for doing gig work like DoorDash, UberEats, GrubHub, and roadie. I hope the transmission doesn’t go out prematurely now that I saw this video.
@@spencerward3606I got one also, I’m planning changing the fluid every 25k miles
@@johngentile8561 That’s a good idea, i just reached 20,000 miles on mine. I will look into doing that as well because I would like it to last as long as possible.
@@spencerward3606 did you ever change the fluid?
I love this review. Because it's an honest review. No bashing because of the nameplate. It's a CAR, transportation. Nothing fancy but all the basic stuff you need is there.

Steve Silvas I know that the new Ford Taurus is produced by Chinese company called Changan.
They are selling it in the middle east right now.
LOLZ 😂
I just bought one 3 weeks ago and I was wishing I could hear Scotty's opinion on it. This video was a godsend, and it is very accurate and even-handed. Thank You Scotty!
nyfan mike how are you liking it so far? I’m really interested in Sparks since they’re smaller and in my price range but I wanted more advice from owners.
Yes update us!
How is it? And winter ok?
Update pls haha
UPDATEus plss I bought a 2013 civic carmax 103k for 16k and just found a Chevy work 2020 with 50k for 15k I’m within my 30 day return policy
Reminds me of my 1990 Ford Festiva. Yes, it still runs. Scotty has even helped me repair it via email. Thank you, Scotty!
I had a 2019 Spark (Manuel) Toased Marshmallow Color, Hurricane Ida totaled her, September I got a 2022 Gray Spark Activ, power widows, front heated seats, power lock, I Love It! I don’t have to depend on Nobody for a ride to Nowhere!
I have one in the manual transmission I got 150000 miles and it's soo fun to drive I love it.
Run down the Spark all you want but I have a 2019 I bought brand new last Sept. up here in Canada and love the Spark. Even with our super cold winters it started no prob and hasn't given me any grief what so ever. With winter tires it handled the snow and ice just great and started no prob in -30° temps.
I have the same model as Scotty rented and he is right about the good points he makes. Idles so quiet and smooth. You can run it at 70, 75 mph no problem and the rpm's sit just over the 2 grand mark.
I do have a Spark with manual transmission. Very fun to drive and easy to maintain. It still impresses me how well it performs on the highway. Great gas saver too.
Manuals in an economy car always usually ends wells. If anyone is looking at a Cruze, get the manual and I can confirm you want to run Royal Purple's synchromax trans fluid, Amsoil is not as good from my experience in the code-MR5 6-speed transmission from the first Gen.
How's your sparks? I'm planning to get one
@@abelim7044 It is nice. Make sure you get one with the manual transmission and you´ll be happy.

I love my Chevy spark! I have the 2020 toasted marshmallow, glory to Jesus I got it :) I don’t have a lot of money so this car was perfect for me.
I got the same color!! I've only seen it on a Spark guy did a video 📹 on when he rented one, but never seen 1 in real life other than mine. I LOVE ❤️ that I have a unique color (for this particular car) & I love how it handles. I also love how it looks like a 2 door coupe but actually has 4 doors. U just can't see the rear doors cuz of where the handles are placed 👍🏾
Hello out there do you still have the spark and if so how has it treated you?
I have a chevy spark. The transmission went out at one hundred forth thousand miles.
What I learned from this video is: Scotty wears his mechanic shirt while on vacation.
Haha true.
Take your QOTD sir.
maybe he likes it lol
And says it's a Sonic, but shows us a Spark 🙃
I bought 21' Spark LS Trim and I love it. Even without accessories or extras, this car drives great, has a decent radio system, and gets superb MPG. I really enjoy this car. 💯
Good to hear as I'm in the market for this car, but GM/Chevy terrifies me!
Unfortunately now these are over 15K used...
@morebeer7673 tell me about it. You're paying new priced for a used car lol. It's a super cool city car though.
I had to pay $18k for 2017 with 30k miles, but it had most of the options I wanted. Now that they're discontinued... gonna hard to find them. I tried to order one a few months before production stopped. They could give me every option I wanted, but only with the cvt transmission. I told them no thanks and eventually found one with a 5 speed.

I just test drove a 2017 Spark with the 5 speed manual, and 50k miles on it. I was shocked how much I actually liked it. It’s not a race car and it’s not a Cadillac or long trip family car, but for basic transportation, it’s great. I don’t need to haul cargo, I have no kids, and I do a ton of city driving. So the lack of interior space doesn’t bother me. The fact that Scotty gave it a good review makes me lean even more towards buying it.
Did Scotty just recommend a Chevy? 2020 sure is weird!

Nuff said !
Mileage on it? Any issues
Still got it? Any updates?
Bought one a year ago this month, love it,just took a 500 mile trip....38mpg going up and 46 coming back. Around town not so great, around 25mpg. Cruises at 80mph without breathing hard.
Im 6'4" tall and fit in my 2016 spark with no issue. 5th gear in the manual transmission is not an OD gear, its just another gear so on the hwy 75mph is well over 3500rpms.
My 2012 Spark's got 93k miles, manual transmission, and I've driven it on the German autobahn en route to Berlin and it zipped along at 140 km/h (87 mph) no problem. Eight years and I've only had to replace the starter and other maintenance things.
I got a Chevy Spark last year for local commutes and running errands locally. So far it's been just fine. 10,000 miles... no issues and no problems!
I have a 2014 Chevy spark, it has 234,000 miles, it runs great,Automatic
Still got it? Any update?
Change the CVT fluid every 30k and she'll hold up just fine. Nobody does it, despite it being in the maintenance manual. Although it's usually under "severe" or "premium" which virtually everyone is qualified as, but hardly anyone ever does. They're not like other automatics where you can forget to ever change the fluid and still manage 200k with no issues. Change it!
How? The CVT on this model is closed loop system. No fluid reservoir or a dipstick. Explain please
Do u mean change the fluid every 30 thousand kilometers? Or miles I'm canadian so I go by kilometers
@@adamrussell3732 oh sorry, I mean miles.
I have a 2017 Spark. It has 67k, I’m trying to find someone who will replace the transmission fluid. Everywhere you go they say it’s a closed loop, however it is not. There are videos on changing the oil on RUclips. It’s a pain, and you have to fill it from the bottom…
@@ElectrcNINJA are we the same person? lol I have 67k on a 2017 aswell now and am look for the same, any update?
I bought a 2016 ls manual transmission new off the lot for $10,000 CAD and it has been the most fun car ever. Very nimble and zippy. Zero problems at all. I love my spark. The infotainment system is better then decent. I bought it as a cheap commuter car, but I drive it most.
I got myself a 2017 ls with a manual. No power anything. Absolutely love the little car.

I love the background sound of bugs humming. We don't get that here in UK (South Wales) .. just a sound of knackered engines and exhausts
Those are cicadas, I believe.
I live next door to Ohio. I live in Pennsylvania. Those noises sound like cicadas. They aren’t out here in my area. They come out every so many years. I think we had them a year or two ago.

Bought a Spark 7 years ago in England It was 6 months old with 6500 miles on the clock. Cost me £6300. Book price new was £11500, Done 30000 miles and is still as good as the day I bought it.
What happened to your arm, Scotty? Please stay safe out there. We need you healthy
GM jumped him, thats why he’s saying nice things about GM
“Spark” Tattoo Scotty 🤣 on ur arm?
Thank you for doing a video about the Spark. I have a 2019 and love it!
8:20. I remember the Daewoo Lanos, Leganza and Nubira, circa 1998. The Charade was by Daihatsu.
From what I remember, the Nubira got the best reviews of the 3 cars Daewoo sold in the U.S., actually.
What I like with the CVT is that it always searches for the best gear combination between engine and speed. You have to give it time to adapt, and your gas consumption will drop like a stone. Of course, it's not very sporty, but when you're in a nifty little city mouse, who cares? It's for mechanical savvy people.
Servicing the CVT is not even for mechanically savvy DIYers, that is my only gripe with this vehicle having owned mine new since 2016. There is no dipstick or reservoir to check fluid levels.
And you have to service the trans fluid at like 30k intervals if you want it to last.
A few weeks ago I rented one, and drove it from central Florida to the panhandle with my mom and luggage. It definitely could move when needed. We even passed a Camaro and some pickups that were going slow.
😄🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰❤
My aunt had a 2012 Chevy spark 1.0 gas 16 k/m per liter....gosh so far so good it doesn't have mechanical issues.. Chevy spark is the great all CHEVY #1 winner.
My spark is life. I took it to NC from Schererville and spent less than $120 there and back
I just bought a 2017 spark and really love this little car, plenty of power, very smooth idling, very fun to drive.
Thank you Scotty, I have a soft spot for Chevrolet. Its good to get out of town to get rid of stress.
For anyone on the fence: got my Spark 3 years ago (2017 model) for under 10k brand new (cvt). At 41k miles and works perfectly without a single maintenance issue. Acceleration is good esp on highway and it's really fun to drive on corners. Only thing replaced was the stock tires at 33k miles. They were dreadfully loud and had no tread. Spend on the tires and the road noise goes from a 5/10 to a 8/10. Night and day.
Still running on stock brakes. We'll see how it goes in a few years but it's already much more reliable than my last car. Had a Nissan with a Gen 1 CVT that would start slipping every few years. No issues at all so far.
How is it in winter
Got me a 2016 with a manual transmission and 17k miles for $3800... Love it and I can tell you it will be with me for many, many years... Just don't get a CVT!!! They fail early!
Just brought a 2021 with 13k miles. Scotty’s review is exact. Peppy, handles great, you do feel the road.
My sister bought one brand new and i was really surprised. I really like that car.
I have a 2017 Chevy spark. We drove it from Chicago to Disney World an back for $110 bucks in fuel. Great car!
I love how it’s a spark and he called it the sonic at the beginning
You noticed that too. Aren't they the same car though? Just changed the name?
@@hughjass1044 I thought it was a sonic.
Nah, it's a 2020 Sega Tails
Buzzy Parkman no, the sonic is considerably larger. The spark is a “mini car,” the Sonic is subcompact, and the Cruze was a compact.
I heard that too. Now, it's got me wondering if the Sonic and the Spark are the same car.
I had a 2016 spark lt that was loaded with the cvt. I traded it for a 2021 spark ls not loaded with the manual. Best trade ever.
How are you liking your 2021 Spark? I’m days away from getting but not sure.
It's awesome great on gas
When Scotty said he left Houston, I thought oh boy Houston we have a problem
My boss has one of those, a 2011 model but with a manual transmision. It still runs fine, but he does keep it well serviced. He has had some repairs done to it but nothing major. And Scotty is right, it has good room inside - as long as You re not over six foot high, you'll be fine.
The Spark might not be my favorite car but I’ll always appreciate lower end vehicles for their price, insanely low depreciation because of said price, simplicity, and seeing how much they can fit in to a vehicle so small and affordable and wonder if I could do with a vehicle like that. I am a fan of the first gen Aveos in that morbid curiosity that since it is so inexpensive and only the essential parts, would it be a decent car to tinker on and have as a beater. The interior of the 1 gen Aveos were laughable at how they resemble the inside of a plastic recycle bin. The Spark in comparison is impressive.
Parking next to a Spark after having done a brake job my large car, I was amazed at how small those components were and if it would be much easier working on them.
And I did get a thrill in college after seeing the Transformer movie with the concept Spark and to the see one in the wild in that electric green paint. It was cool.
I own that electric green in which you speak of😁 I love this car and it really is a ton of fun to drive.
Nice review Scotty! I’d buy the car if I could get over the fact that pretty much every other vehicle on the road would monster truck crush this if god forbid I was in an accident with it. It’s not like we’re taking family trips/drives with the Rona, it’ll fit the groceries and get me to work and back.
I’m pretty sure Scotty got a Toyota tattoo on his arm 💪🏻

It's sad that GM is discontinuing this vehicle. It's very popular in Korea and other parts of asia. I wished GM would reconsider
I have a 2019 Spark and I love it actually.
this is the car I've been planning on buying for months and I'm so glad that scotty approves of it
Did you end up buying this car? If so, how has it been keeping up?

Love my 2014 Spark! I bought it used, have had it for years & it’s still doing great at 97k miles. I get about 40 mpg & the bright green color is easy to spot in any parking lot. I get so many compliments on it.
How much did you pay for it?
How long does the CVT on this model usually last without too many problems, my neighbor just found one on the Facebook marketplace the same u described, and coincidently it got 97k miles on it
My son recently bought one of these cars and I have to say I was quite surprised at how well it drives when I took it for a ride. He's right it cruzes down the highway very nice and doesn't turn a lot of rpms like most tiny cars would. Also I drove down a few crappy roads and i think it handled the bumps better than some cars twice its size lol.
Loved it. I drive a 2013 Chevrolet Beat in india . ofcourse it's called the spark in United States. I have not had much issues with it. Just the heater core was replaced once. And last year I replaced both front shock absorbers. All aftermarket. I am the first owner. And I intend to keep it for full 15 years. Petrol cars are permitted here to be run for 15 years only. CHEVY runs deep. Great to see Scotty recommending the Chevrolet that I also own. ofcourse a yester year model but it's all the same.
I think Scotty liked it so much he's probably considering on redoing his intro for his videos and replacing the Supra with the Spark instead! 😁
It’ll need more than a spark for him to do his burnouts though. 😂
It's not a city car it's a shity, car

He'd probably have to neutral drop that CVT just to get anything close to a tire squeal out of it, lmao. Would be a funny intro to catch folks off guard.
I can chirp the tires in first and second gear in my 5 speed Spark 😎
2014 manual trans... 275K miles... ( less hp engine) I high rev all day every day use full synthetic or get a Walmart oil change and top it off with synthetic... engine runs like NEW
I had a manuel transmission Spark as my first car. It was a lot of fun to drive because it was so easy to reach its limits! It was also very cheap to run. Had it for 3 years and sold it a couple of months ago
I'll bet Scotty took off his traveling shirt and threw on the "Scotty" shirt just for us.. lol
Lol
Bet he had 50 of em hanging in his closet 😂
I owned a 13 until my family grew, and now I own a 15 as my commute car. Both have been manual transmissions, and they are a weirdly fun little car to drive. Sure you don't get corvette acceleration, but they get up to speed fine for the highway, and they handle strangely well for what they are.
Just bought a 2020 2LT manual, love it!
So my friend would you recommend 2021 spark ls manual base model..i am planning to buy one..please let me know your opinion

@@abelim7044 Our model has no cruise control which is a major problem according to my husband. He got his to be a daily driver, and it has indeed gotten many miles out on it! @@mary6aros 4 years and still running good?
Not everyone needs a hellcat to drive to work to impress people they don't like with the money they don't have.
Thank you Scotty for the good review.
My mom had a 2001 Daewoo Nubira. Everything under the hood had a GM sticker. I was amazed. lol
Just picked one up 2021. Drove it from Miami to Jacksonville, no issues. 80 mph most of the trip, doesn’t feel small inside.
Get the MANUAL version and this car will easily last 15 years. Extremely underrated vehicle.
I still like my GM/Daewoo Aveo 2016! Tons of room, minimal repairs, easy to move in the city, it eats tires, but still mint. 14yo GM would be dead. 14yo Daewoo is still next to perfect.
I worked in a factory where I live in east Tennessee where I helped make the headlight molding for these Sparks. It was a Korean factory called SL that mainly made GM headlamps taillamps, and plastic trim. It seems to me the Koreans seem to be at least a little better at car making than the Chinese.
Well they do make Kia's, Hyundia's and probably a bunch of others there.
I just bought one with a manual transmission and manual windows and locks. So it’s great.
Love the Spark, and was just about to buy one when I decided to take my two boys to the Toronto Auto Show and they sat in one. No leg room in the back for my youngest. Heartbroken, I had to buy a slightly bigger car, but my heart was set on the Spark.
my ex gf and i drove a 2013 model. It was a fantastic little car. seats folded down flat and lots of more space to haul more things than a sedan.
I later now got a 2015 Sonic RS 6sp manual. much faster more fun to drive and a bit bigger. My Sonic was made in the US
Yeah I've got a 2019 Spark with 48k miles on it now and the trans is still shifting great. I'm not too fond of it only being a four seater and having three children so we're quite squished when everybody's inside lol, but it's a decent little gas saver though. $15 fills it up with gas prices in Nashville
he is right.. i bought a 2015 chevy spark with a manual transmission in 2018....brand new it cost $13,095..i bought it for $7300 almost half off and it wasn't even four years old yet! nice low miles i don't drive a huge amount anymore about 8000 miles a year..for a super cheap ride it is a great value.
Finally, you made a video about the Chevy Spark. Thank you Scotty! I'm actually thinking of getting this.
Sameeee lol
Got a '19 Spark & my gf and I LOVE it! We just needed something economical & inexpensive, and it worked out prefecture to get it. I'm 6'2 and it's surprisingly roomy, so it's been worth it.
Chevy Spark ⚡️ is approved by Scotty, I’ll take under consideration for my next car to buy.
Definitely consider manual
I'm getting 40 mpg in the city, 6 years old car, got it new. Zero issues, almost 80k.
That CVT is made by Jatco. It's the same one in the Mitsubishi Mirage and the Nissan Versa. I could be wrong but I remember reading that somewhere. They do better in low-horsepower, low-weight cars like these (especially the MIrage) because they don't tax the CVT so much like heavier cars with more powerful engines do.
Nodak81 you might be on to something. I noticed that the CVT transmissions that were attached to higher horsepower engines and higher vehicle weight tend to have more issues with the transmission.
I've heard that as well. The lower the vehicle weight and horsepower the better the CVT seems to hold up.
I just got a '19 Toyota Yaris sedan with low miles and standard transmission. I love it so far. Only 106 hp, but the direct injection has more torque and has no problem on hills. It's actually pretty zippy at 2350 lbs. I got 48.5 mpg on a 200 mile trip including hills, and gets 45.8 around here commuting. It also has an IIHS safety rating better than the '14 - '16 Corollas, which I was also looking at.
I just purchased this car after seeing this video thanks Scotty
