Now that the Guv'nor is back in Town.. lets have fun!!!
Thanks Dan & Mick for this amazing comparison, exactly what I needed (as I commented in your other video before). Tasting licks, as usual, from you guys! Cheers
Thank God - it's Friday again: Pedal Show Day. And another one on every guitar player's favorite subject: overdrive/distortion. This jhs Andy Timmons is outstanding! Thanks again Dan and Mick
I picked up the Angry Charlie V3 last weekend, due to how awesome it sounded in your videos and I got to say I am not disappointed thus far. Love your videos , keep up the excellent work!! Cheers!!!
The angry charlie and the AT are by far the best amp like distortion pedals I’ve ever used and will never leave my board
Are they still working for you? I’m thinking about getting the AC as a baseline distortion to run through my fender bassman.
Incredible! We just got the 1962 in at work today and I tried it out over lunch; already on my list. Then I come home to watch this.
Awesome work as always boys :)
Great demo and finally a good tone from the 1962. Sounded really good on low gain.
Thanks guys.
Honestly, you guys have an awesome show! There are MANY of us who are head over heels in love with great gear. Your show never ceases to satisfy..
nah i hate nice gear
Man Mick seems to have unearthed an inner classic rocker. Awesome playing. You guys really have something special going on with this show. Totally addicted!
Could you guys do a 'Marshall in a box' into a Fender vs a real Marshall shootout? Maybe even a blind test would be cool
Yup!!!!
They did but I don't remember the video. It didn't sound the same at all but sounded nice anyway and it could cover the same ground.
Be od
I have a old guvnor, a shredmaster and a purple plexi and they all sound great into my 71 super reverb. I preferred that sound over using them with my marshall head, which was already doing the marshall thing ...
Dan, Mick, I've only recently found out about your videos in the last few months. They are all unbelievably informative and inspiring. Thank you guys so much. Keep up the good work. Cheers.
+Ryan Hurst Thank you Ryan, great to have you on board. Thanks for watching!
Amazing video as always! So great to see Fire Custom Shop in your show!
Greetings from Brasil :D
nice one guys - I have my eyes (and ears) set on the Charlie AT version, it really has something special going on with the extra headroom, but I gotta tell you, I had no idea the original Guvnor's sounded that good! wow! You learn something new every day.
I'm a Texas born and bread guitarist. It took a while but you boy's have grown on me. Y'all can play them guitars and let the tones of the gear y'all use really shine through.
Thanks for great video's and help understanding tones for gear I'm very interested in.
Jolly good show.
Cheers Eric :)
When Mick unleashed on the Plexi-Drive I was in heaven!! Well done Mick.
Cup of Coffee and That Pedal Show start my Friday off right!
Fantastic gentlemen! Now I can go off and be productive after my Friday Morning Fix!
You guys are reading my mind as I've been wondering which to buy. Thanks!
Great show, great sounds - again:-)
A classic line-up of beautiful Marshall tone pedals.
The guvnor is more open . Love it
Just got the Andy T and omg it sounds good, thanks guys for this great channel
Hello!! Good to see you guys again!!
Really love this one. Been wanting to hear these side by side and esp on That Pedal Show! BTW, The graphic on the Angry Charlie is Charlie Brown's head and the design on his T-shirt he always wears.
as always, loved it guys! would totally dig a sequel with more pedals. also would be cool to do shootouts based on amp model: as in best for jtm sound, best for 800 sound, etc
i cried when you took the tele out. That tone was amazing through everything
Thanks to you, I now own an AT. Keep on with your excellent show. Gigged last weekend wearing your T-shirt, and I ended up talking gears for an hour and a half with other fans of yours later that night. :)
+Jonathan Veillette best post ever! Thanks J ;)
Great vids as always!! cheers for the shout out!
The Marshall Guv'nor was the pedal that really introduced me to good pedal distortin. It remained the primary distortion in my first band until we got an ART Extreme. That pedal seems to be sadly forgotten.
The ART XTreme pedal is a hidden gem, imho. I have been trying to get someone to make me a standalone version of it (without the Fx on it) for a looong time.
great video, i was just about to get myself the old angry charlie so its great to see it compared to its siblings and the competition out there
+Brendolicous Get the AT instead. You'll get the old AC in the 50 Watts mode and all the extra headroom in the 100 Watts mode and extra gain and compression in the 25 Watts mode. No brainer to me ;)
Great addition this week guys! All are awesome pedals, And Mick, I'm definitely feeling the Bryan Adams! Not just because I'm from Vancouver Canada, even though he left us to live with you blokes, but because as you mentioned, Keith Scott set the mood for some of the most tasteful leads of the 80s and early 90s....definitely one of those underrated artists
+Mark I Nice one Mark. Reckless was a big part of my early learning as a player. Obviously I couldn't play any of the leads as a kid but the sense of rhythm and groove, and melody... And tone! Killer playing and sounds all over that album. Thanks for watching!
My regular Friday evening entertainment- the Wittertainment podcast and That Pedal Show. Living the dream
Perfect. Just what I needed to know. Thanks!
Awesome show. Very entertaining
Totally loving the Keeley 1962x ... Great Peter Green / Eric Clapton Beano sounds!! Great idea the KT66 / KT88 switch to change the squash
GREAT video comparison. They all sound great. I liked the Wampler and the Angry Charlie the best.
Thanks to your demos I went and bought an angry Charlie v3 today. In the store I try not to play it too loud, but once I got it home it truly roars with the warmth and bite I love. Incredible. Thanks guys.
+Tim Flohr great stuff, thanks Tim :)
I see your point, but not to forget that the crunch box is also basically a a simplified Marshall Guv'nor. :-)
MB215 STOP IT WITH THE CAPS LOCK!
no you didn't.
MB215 cool_starry_bra.jpg
Great video as always, I wish the Bogner La Grange was out already though so that it could be in this video since I'm really interested in it (especially after falling in love with the Red Pedal).
The pre-gain side on the plexi-drive deluxe is an independent tube screamer type circuit, the left side is the marshall style od.
Great video guys.
The Andy Timmons Pedal Show! :D Amazing show as always, guys. Keep on... Cheers
That collings guitar is something else. Love it!
Julian Peters better than Gibson shit quality control
Hey guys, thanks to you're video, I have bought the AT, which covers all my gain needs now, thanks so much :)
+Flamenco Al enjoy it Al, it's killer!
The "moustache" is the stripe on Charlie Brown's shirt.
+David Dyte yeah duh, dan
+David Dyte yeah, obviously Charlie Brown
Still glad I bought the @. Some of those like the Carpe are amazing, but the @, especially in 18 volt mode, is just so open and organic. I like the 1962x a lot, but it's sorta a different animal, more like the regular Charlie, more JTM 45 than JCM. An obscure pedal to substitute the '62 with would have been the Hot Modded 800 by some Texas company, is pretty sweet, but a little hard to come by. Always a great show, guys!
Carpe and 1962 were super smooth, really nice
Greetings from the States! I have the Wampler on my board. The post gain (left foot switch) is the Marshall overdrive. The pre gain (right foot switch) is a tube screamer circuit. When both are engaged it's supposed to sound like a screamer into a cranked Marshall. It compresses more, boosts the mids and tightens up the bass. I really like it. Tons of flexibility.
G'damnit, now I have to look into that 1962!!
Great video gents thanks very uch, the Keeley and The Carpe Diem was my favorite if im honest..much more of a Marshall sound that I know.
Agreed. Plexi 50 Plexi owner here. They remind me of my amp. But I think the the other pedals are more of a JCM 800 vibe.
Can’t go wrong With the guvnor in my opinion.
The best and most informative channel ever! You guys have been my teachers and I've learnt a lot through your videos. A shout out "Thank You!" from India.
I had a question though. It is regarding distortion pedals.
What is your opinion about the True Tone Jekyll n Hyde pedal? Could you guys do a comparison between the JHS AT drive and the True Tone Jekyll n Hyde V3. I would love to hear what you guys think about these two great pedals.
Thanks a ton!
Shannon
just got my angry charlie v3 3 days ago and it sounds really really good
I was hoping you would get into the Carpe Diem a little more. Anyway, they all sounded excellent! Thanks for the video!
+Pedro Bernardi We've been asked so much about this pedal Pedro. We'll do something more in depth. Soon! Thank you for watching.
Great video!
Loved this video. Just picked a Guv'nor mkI. It's very cool to hear all these pedals beside it. I don't know if they are all necessarily based on it, but you can really hear how the roots of these modern amp in a box pedals are in the Guv'nor. I'm waiting on a Bluesbreaker mkI clone to arrive, and I can wait to stack it with my Guv'nor and see what kind of magic I can conjure.
YIkes, with distortion that bright switch is like a razor blade to the ear drum! Lol, good video guys. Subscribed after watching this video.
That little riff at 4:22 was awesome!!
Keeley and Carpe Diem more my flavor. Great show as always guys!
great playing guys enjy your show and exploring all the different tones you can get out the different equipment you demo, and the in depth annalyisis about what each pedals has and what doesn't have and works best with what amps, pedals, clean dirty amp when using different overdrives love all the tips ,just wondering if you guys could demo and review the catalinbread dirty little secret it is a vintage plexi sound it is going for that would be cool thanks.
Hey, first: i really love your videos, they helped me a lot understanding what you can do with pedals etc.! second: i looked through both channels and could not find a video about tremolo pedals...could you maybe change that ? Greetings from Germany
Really fun demo! Nothing says “ROOCCKKK” like that tone. Also, really that classic Rock/Blues thingy. Loved the tone with all pickup types. Wondering how an old school RAT fits into the mix? I generally do a more overdrive type thing...run two Soul Food pedals into a nice tube amp. One set as a clean boost, pushed treble, running into the other, set as a darker distortion, with the tone around 10 o’clock. I have a compressor in the front of my board. I can build up to something like that tone, or have the different layers for different shapes and colors. Wonder how riding the volume would impact the sound on these pedals? Keeley and JHS seemed most usable...can’t afford the board space for double spaced pedals, unless they are doing serious double duty.
The Keeley is incredible! Great show! LIKE!!! T-Shirts 4xl would be great :-)
watched this some time ago I perfered the AT but now it's the V3... ohhhw love it
The Guv'nor sounded the best of the lot of them.
Charlie Brown and Keeley 1962x are pedals fantastic!!!!!
From this demo I definitely like the sound of the Guv'nor pedal more. I'm thinking about trying one of these out with my 1993 AC30tbx. I think the added treble reach from the Guv'nor might come in handy with the Vox's normal channel that I use. It's pretty warm, and I regularly have to push tone knobs up on drives for my WRHB Tele.
Thanks for the help setting my mind between these pedals, guys.
I have OX4 pickups in my R8 they are amazing! Mark knows how to make a great PAF style pickup 👍🏻
Right foot switch on the Wampler is a Tubescreamer
Another great pedal show guys, thanks .... trouble is the list of pedals on the 'wanted list' just keeps getting longer ..... :) They all are great .... but do love the Carpe Diem and the Keeley.
Been watching this in bits and pieces and finally got to Mick getting his EC on. NICE. I'll throw away the first two discs of my Crossroads box set and just make an mp3 of this video now ;)
+David Dyte Hahahaha! Maybe hold on to them a little longer David. For a 'Blues' player I surprise myself that I never really got into Clappers. I was too railroaded on SRV, Albert Collins, Hendrix... And then fast forward to Landau, Grissom, Philip Sayce... All of whom owe a debt to Clappers of course! I should woodshed some Brit blues. :0)
+That Pedal Show I got into slide blues first, from listening to Johnny Winter, Son House, Robert Johnson, Ry Cooder... Clapton came a bit later and then I was gutted to realize he's pretty damn good with a slide, too, even just using one as an afterthought.
All sound great
Great episode and fun.
That Carpe Diem seems to be slowly crawling into our computers.... stop testing it or many will have to buy it online.:)
It's got to be the original Angry Charlie for me! That clipping sounds just so amazing.
+Paisley Wilde it's pretty killer :)
You guys should get some AMT pedals for your channel. They rock
Plexi drive is solid. Dumped it only bc had a fizzle tone with specific amp I like to use. Didn't do it on my other amps. Now using a revival drive compact for the lighter crunchier stuff. But the Plexi drive was solid.
great show, i heard it with headphones...surely, i like the licks that finished at 39'02...nice execution, the carpe diem seem to be very great. I had a guv'nor when i was younger i'd like it a lot but played on a poor amps. the angry charlies is great i prefer the model with the eq....but they sound really close each other
I have the original angry Charlie and I love it!! thanks for letting me hear the AT version (which I also like very much). the good ole guv'nor sounds great as well...while we're on the subject of the beloved Maeshall tone, you guys should really check out the purple plexi by lovepedal if you haven't already - great pedal
Yep, I tried an angry Angry Charlie, a Wampler Plexi and a Love Pedal Purple Plexi when I bought my pedal recently and the Purple Plexi just sounded the fullest and most natural. The Love Pedal was the one that I bought and it is just such a sweet sounding drive.
Damn now I have to build myself a Guv'nor clone. I actually started breadboarding it while I was watching this.. Man you guys and this show have not helped my crippling gear addiction LOL...
awesome loved the Keekey.
It would be cool to see you guys try out JHS's Charlie Brown V4. I'm curious to see how it compares to the Angry Charlie and other pedals like it.
Omg its Friday and I just came back from a tiresome studio recording! How wonderful it is when you go back and see your favorite channel has uploaded another great video with two wonderful guys who are fun as well as knowing what they are doing! Thanks again!
Btw, I got my Andy Timmons @ pedal couple of weeks ago and A/Bed that with the Angry Charlie V3 (the new one) in the shop, and honestly thought they both sounded great. BUT! the AT with that 3 positions toggle switch as well as having the Presence knob (which is lacking on the AC new version unfortunately I must say) is far more versatile IMHO. Also I noticed that as you said in the video the AC V3 is a definitely less bright. I guess the reason is that on the AC new version you don't have the Presence knob anymore which I think is very crucial for shaping and matching the sound with different amps. I think the Mid and Bass are already set perfect on these pedal and we don't really have to mess with them. AT is more versatile IMO but all the others are also very good. :)
+konnektlive exactly the same for me an hour ago as I get back from school!
I know it’s been said but to expand:
Angry Charlie circle and mustache are
Charlie Browns round bald head and squiggly line shirt. In addition to connecting the brown sound of a Marshall to the character, the squiggly line also represents the sawtooth wave form produced when driving an amp into overdrive or the gain stages in an overdrive pedal.
Maybe you guys didn't get the full potencial of the Plexi-Drive deluxe by not understanding the pedal. It's a Plexi-like drive in the post gain section with active EQ and a TS808 on the pre gain stage (with only the volume knob). If you could, please make another video about it. Beside that, excelent work as always. My favorite music channel on YT. Perfect chemistry between you two. Thanks for all the lessons and entertainment. From a Brazil fan here.
JHS outta pay you guys for advertising. I know I got my Angry Charlie based heavily on your videos. And I must say, I love it!
Awesome as always, see if you can add a Blackstone Overdrive as you get a Plexi and a JCM800 in the one box, but no buffer and must come after the guitar ...
my verdict: with tweaking they can all be made to sound the same.
love this show! thanks from Southern kentucky. finally two English chaps that speak American. so happy my limited intellect can understand you.
That Keeley 1962x was sweet. I would love to see a video comparing some Bluesbreaker style pedals...1962, Charlie Brown, Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal etc.
And THE box of rock from Zvex ! Is in that way
Loved the episode guys, the Angry Charlie is just so good. I'd love to see you guys' take on the Friedman BE-OD as I'm currently deciding between that pedal and the Angry Charlie
Jonathan Nelson get both if u can. Different sounds.
Jonathan Nelson if I had to choose though I'd go with JHS.
That clean tone w the LP reached out of my phone and spanked me.
If we're voting I'm calling the Angry Charlie 3 with the Keely a close second! Great job as usual guys!
Probably because I sold my original Guv for $100 bucks ( can I get it back Alan? Please! )
Very informative. Would be great to have the same kind of video with the Vox AC-30 Top Boost sound (just thinking about Carl Martin AC-Tone, JRAD Hightop Boost/EQ, Wampler Thirty Something, Keeley White Sands...) !
All I can really say is," DAMN, what a fine video!" Really enjoyed it boys! Later...
Another great show guys. How's the mods on the Metal Zone coming along? I can't wait to hear the results.
i was expecting to love the carpe diem but i have to say it's the angry charlie v3 for me after this video
@Mick, you sound good on amy guitar, but you and that strat is a match made in heaven.
@Dan, you sound amazing too of course!
I run a Plexi-Drive dlx, but I wouldn't turn down any of those other pedals. Great demo
Agreed ❤️ re: the Angry Charlie sound on the Strat. I bought one BTW so I'm biased maybe 😃, but I really love the juicy mids on the Charlie. Thinking about. a Timmons though.
Sorry if this has already been answered, but the wavy mustache thing on the angry Charlie is the design on the front of Charlie Brown's shirt. Love the show guys!
+Brian Corley got it, cheers B :)
Could be that I'm biased in that I just bought an Angry Charlie V3, but it sounds best to my ears. That TMB EQ is quite nice and completely usable. I rather like mine scooped.
