Thanks a lot for your tutorial! Helping me a lot.🙏🙏 Question: @19:47 you used "Offset Cut" from meshmachine, I can't find this option, I only have "Offset" in version 0.14.1.
Probably figured it out by now, but it likely has to do with scale not being applied or just a bug. Vanilla solution: set the origin to world centre and try it again.
The video is super informative and great for learning boxcutter and hard ops, but i'm having a issue applying the shape i drew with boxcutter like you do at 6:41. For me it says drawing while i'm drawing as expected but when i try to apply the shape it cancels the entire operation saying cancelled at the bottom and gives me this error: attribute "execution_time" from "LatticeModifier" is read-only. I hope you or someone who knows better can still help me even tough the video is already over a month old.
Get a older version of blender like before 3.1 or so cause blender 3.6 broke Boxcutter. Start building in 3.1 and then opened it 3.6 after using boxcutter
This is a great video thank you Josh. I think its worth pointing out though that on the first visual the surface quality of the fillets on the main surface and lower surface is quite poor (observed by poor light transitioning over surfaces) and a reason to not use blender if you are looking for g1+ surface continuity on hard surface modelling
Those who can't use the boxcutter operation and it shows "cancelled" with a error on top- The only workaround for now is to use *OLDER VERSION* of blender. I tired boxcutter in 3.1 and it works. Then open the .blend file in 3.6 and continue from there on. No backwards compatibility btw For some reason, boxcutter is broken in 3.6 and the issue has not been fixed yet.
1:10 I have only one question. Was that the ORIGINAL default cube... or did you delete it and place your own... I don't need to tell you, we can't use THE default cube... ;)
Cool tutorial Josh, thank you! I figured out that bevel profile needs at least 2 segments to allow you to adjust the profile :) I hope it helps if anyone is watching tutorial right now and struggles with it
Love watching your videos! It would be awesome to hear you describe how you would approach 3D modelling for 3D printing in blender using Hardops/Boxcutter etc. Can these be of any assist and also produce accurate results for 3D printing?
As long as you apply the booleans and make sure everything is manifold you shouldn't have problems. There is a free addon called 3d print toolbox or something like that, that will will help you make sure your objects are print ready
@@Anthony_Gutierrez That is true, but I was more curious to see the workflow on how to combine measurements + boxcutter/hardops to achieve 3D printable accurate models.
@@lefteris696 You can set blender to mm and type in your exact adjustments and extrusions. But if you want to measure and place things like in Fusion 360 you probably need the blender CAD addon. I used it a bit last year
Hello...Josh....I have a question ..can we set blender to automatically apply transforms after we edit them? Or can we assign a different shortcut for separate operations like pressing "fn" will apply scale .."shift+fn" applies rotation and "Ctrl+fn" applies location. Something like that.
You can apply shortcuts but I wouldn't recommend it. There are situations where you simply need the transforms unapplied and might cause more problems than needed.
Great video, learning a lot :-) Don't go any slower than this though. On a side note, if anyone can answer a question I have,... the moment I use Boxcutter the viewport changes depth where what's close to me looks smaller than what's far from me, thought I had found how to reverse that, but either I didn't, or forgot about it, does anyone know what causes that, or how I can prevent/reverse that, it's quite annoying when modeling :-)
Hi, im getting trouble for n-gons cut with boxxutter add on on the 3.6 version on blender. I cant lock the shape without getting cancel the operation. Do you think that is a blender problem?
I've been an industrial designer/product designer for a decade. BLENDER SHOULDN'T BE USED FOR CAD/3D MODELING FOR PRODUCT DESIGN. It's not accurate enough for exact/fine tolerances and it properly can't analyze stress. Blender is fine if you're just using the model for rendering, but it should never be used for production CAD/3D modeling.
@@ahmedhussain182if you're trying to learn CAD for a profession then you can't limit yourself by choosing a certain CAD software because it's free. Professional engineers usually use SolidWorks, industrial designers usually use SolidWorks or Rhino, and interior designers often use AutoCad. None of those are completely free, but they may have a free trial period. If you're going to learn CAD modeling for a certain profession then you need to learn what is considered the standard software in that industry. You cannot just learn some program because it's free. If you're learning for a hobby then use whatever you have free access to like Blender or FreeCAD.

You need HardOps and enable the correct settings.
I like your work flow in rendering! Show us more. Thank you!
love long and full details tutorial i hope to see more hour long tutorial like this more!
Thank you so much Josh. I have recently been intrigued about hard surface modeling
My pleasure.
Very cool, thoroughly enjoyed the workflow and your commentary was exactly asa needed!

This!
Nice to see a new vid. great material as always.

I don’t get an error, but I can’t get past drawing the shape. If I double click like he does it just cancels the operation and nothing happens.

I found out there was a box cutter update and it worked after that. Not sure if it works as it always has, but it worked for this.
Lots of value:)
Learned a lot here, thank you.
any one wjo know why slice ist working in blender 4.2 at time 6:40 in the video i am unable to do it please any one who can help
when u press x it tells u to dlt the object and if i wana do it throgh boolean i will need second object so plz any who can help me

What is the world texture?
Hello, what about technical drawings? Can these also be generated in Blender? Thanks in advance
looks interesting because it goes just like basic nurbs modeling
Great work.
Thanks Edon. Love your work and tutorials.
Have you heard of AgX? a different color management than blender's default. Great for post processing

I wonder what these alien-like products are.. do they serve some purpose?
they do have a purpose, to sell you the plugin via sponsorships and some youtube ad revenue
thx
Learning product design in blender iscool but be aware that if ur a product designer, ur customer will ask for CAD format. So learn CAD first.
