Lots of cameos from the Muppeteer perfomers - besides these, Frank Oz was the surprised looking guy at the newspaper when Gonzo yelled to stop the presses, Richard Hunt drove the taxi in the intro, Kathy Mullen was his passenger, Jerry Nelson was the man walking past Kermit with his actual daughter Christine ("That's a frog. Bears wear hats.") Sadly she passed away not long after that, but Jim Henson got her in the movie so she could still live her dream of being an actress at least once.
I’m a first gen Muppet Show fan. I’ve seen all the Muppet movies in the theater (except Treasure Island). The performers were household names in my house growing up. I came home from my paper route and my mom could tell I was upset. That was because it was front page news when Henson died. She knew why I was sad. I have Caroll Spinney’s (Big Bird) autograph tattooed on my arm to commemorate getting to meet him! I say all that just to say… HOW THE HELL DID I MISS JIM HENSON IN THAT SCENE?!?!
@yosefdemby8792 And Rowlf, The Swedish Chef, Dr. Teeth, Link Hogthrob, Waldorf, The Muppet Newsman, Ernie, Guy Smiley and a whole bunch of other Muppets. He also directed this movie (the only Muppet feature he did in his life) and The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth.

The scene in the park with the girl calling Kermit a bear is a bittersweet one. That's Christine Nelson, daughter of Jerry Nelson, a muppeteer who performed Floyd Pepper, Camilla the chicken, Robin, and other characters. His most famous ones were Gobo from Fraggle Rock and Emmet Otter. He is walking with her and identifies Kermit as a frog. She had cystic fibrosis and really wanted to be an actress after graduating high school. Her disease was getting worse, so Jim Henson gave her a speaking role so she could get her Screen Actors Guild care to be a real actress. Sadly, she passed away from her disease in 1982 (this movie came out in 1981) at the age of 21. Jim Henson had a heart of gold.

I used to be terrified of him but then finding out he’s as sweet as his name I felt so bad for him since i myself have been misjudged by his I look 😅 (not racially or anything just because of my look people usually assume the worst)
Thog is even bigger a d more of a softie. Doesn't make any big apperance in the movies (he does have a more prominence in The Muppets from 2011, though he doesn't say anyting) but it shows in The Muppet Show especially in Season 1 and in The Muppet Valentines Show pilot. He's the huge blue Muppet with big almost duck like lips and floppy ears.
I feel like Lady Olena Tyrell would have some words with you for referring to Lady Holiday as a late Diana Rigg....... But absolutely the GREAT Diana Rigg.
I feel so fortunate to have lived on this planet during a time when Jim Henson was creating these movies, the Muppet Show, even Sesame Street (and let's not forget Farscape).
No dive into the world of Muppets can be complete without watching The Dark Crystal. It doesn't use the characters or storytelling of the Muppets, but it is Jim Henson and it uses ( and advances) Muppet technology - plus it's a bad ass movie.
When legendary stand up comedian Billy Connolly starred in Muppet Treasure Island, he sneakily asked one of the crew "Where do they keep all the Muppets when they're not being used ?" The crew member gave him directions to the room and when he got there he opened the door and ALL the Muppets turned round to see who was at the door. And Connolly was overjoyed. You also really watch the two recent Muppet films, The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted
The truck driver Miss Piggy throws into the garbage was Sir Peter Ustinov. Ashleigh would probably know him as the voice of Prince John in Disney’s animated Robin Hood.
Peter Ustinov did a lot of things in his life, but for me he is always Hercule Poirot in _Death on the Nile_ (1978 - best version) and _Evil under the Sun_ (1982). Both movies are a ton of fun, full of star actors and great music.
Can't wait for you to watch Muppets Take Manhattan!!!! It's so funny. ("Peoples is peoples. No is buildings. Is tomatoes, huh? Is peoples, is dancing, is music, is POTATOES! So, peoples is peoples. Okay?” ... words of wisdom to live by!) 😂😂😂😂
So, everyone's talking about Gonzo 's chicken fetish, *_(To think someone had one BEFORE Ed from Ed, Edd, & Eddy)_* but *_NOBODY_* realizes Beauregard crashing through the kitchen is the payoff to the Happiness Hotel song lyrics: "Don't try to order dinner, there's no kitchen anymore"?!?!?
This is such a good one. It's probably my second favorite after The Muppet Movie. You do know two of the cameos. The stuffy british man with his wife was John Cleese. And you guessed right about Peter Falk. He was Columbo, and his role is basically him making fun of Columbo. Also fun fact: the scene where Miss Piggy swims was filmed on the same stage as Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Specifically, the scene where Vader reveals he's Luke's father. Great reaction 🙂
@JebWCManning Frank OZ who plays Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear also played Yoda as well , The Muppet show was filmed entirely in England because U.S networks rejected it until a British impresario and producer named Lew Grade who believed in Jim Henson decided to invest in his show . Jim Henson always maintained contact with British entertainers and spoke highly of the actors and crew in England . The Great Muppet caper is an awesome gem from my Childhood . love this movie . CHEERS .
@@harveylee51Oz also played Sam the Eagle and Animal the drummer. Other roles include Bert, Grover, and Cookie Monster. Henson would film The Great Muppet Caper, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, The Tale of The Bunny Picnic, The Storyteller, and various other projects in London.
It was originally an intentionally ironic name, as he was one of the antagonists in The Frog Prince, which was also Robin’s debut as the titular Prince.
I know Treasure Island and Christmas Carol get all the love, but for my money this is hands-down the best, and funniest, Muppet movie yet made. Perfect from start to finish.
Loved this watchalong with you! Really loved seeing Diana Rigg (Lady Holiday) again, a.k.a. Mrs James Bond and Lady Olenna Tyrell. I hope you get back to the James Bond franchise as well.
It's especially funny because, in an episode of Muppet Babies, Piggy's looking for someone to paint a portrait of herself. One artist she tries is Pierre "Animal" Renoir. "Me Renoir! Har-rar-rar-rar-rar-rar!"
When my teacher in English classes would ask "Does anyone know what exposition is". I would answer: "it's the part of the story that is 'Why are you telling me this?'-it's exposition it has to go somewhere". Everyone would be confused. I got to talk about my favorite movie is and everyone learned what exposition is though the greatest example.
I do have some nostalgia for Muppets Take Manhattan, but it almost completely abandons the fourth wall breaking, which is one of my favorite aspects of the Muppets.
I haven’t seen this movie in probably 20 years and every second is coming back to me like an old memory fading into view. I used to watch this one so much!!! Can’t wait for Muppet Treasure Island, my favorite one!

For December, you need to see Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas. I hear it's a must-watch. Edit: I feel like they used an actual person for the "full-sized Miss Piggy" shot, like they used an actual person for some shots of Chucky in the tail-end of the original Child's Play.
8:15 "Glossies" refers to professional photo prints (with a glossy finish). Before the internet and digital photos, people who wanted to break into show business would have some professional portraits taken, and go around giving them to agents, promoters, and agencies, trying to get noticed for job opportunities.
I know you're not going to recognize all the cameos, but I'm surprised you didn't notice the late Mrs. Bond right off. You had all the time in the world.
I couldn’t help cracking up when you gave the punchline to the joke Dolly Parton told in the bloopers reel of 9 to 5: What’s green and smells like Miss Piggy?
3:45 - the "big mouthed guy" is named Sweetums. 4:20 - on the original show, they had a sketch with live chickens. Gonzo (or rather, his puppeteer Dave Goelz) ad-libbed "nice legs though" about the chickens, and from then on, Gonzo had a thing for chickens.
Just in case it hasn't been said, the freaky looking diving Miss Piggy was actually a human being in a Miss Piggy suit. Also this is my _second_ favorite Muppet movie. The next one is my favorite.
My family had a Betamax (it was the superior format but movies would take 2 tapes so VHS won out because that's what video stores---remember video rental stores---would stock) this was the ONE movie we had on betamax. Every.....day.....This is still my favorite. Also the Muppet Show every day in its first round of syndication.(mid-late 80s)
@@m1gramme haha, my uncle went hard on Betamax. I agree, it was a superior product. But, in the end, profits made the tech of VHS come out on top. H/K theory applied from biology to consuner economics.
So first the whole film is more of an homage to old Hollywood Musicals specially the works of Busbly Berkly with "The First Time it Happens" Fred Astaire with "Steppin Out With a Star", and Esther Williams swimming films with theWater Ballet sequence, You don’t have to worry about Gonzo his whole shtick is the daredevil guy who would do things no one else would, The song "The First Time It Happens" was actually nominated for Best Original Song, but unfortunately losing to the awful "Arthur's Theme (The Best That You Can Do)" by Christopher Cross, Lady Holiday was played by Diana Rigg who you saw as the Bond girl in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Not sure if you picked up on the joke, the running gag of Fozzie and Kermit being twins works because when you see them both with hats to everyone they will look identical like the photo in the desk of cameo Jack Warden who you will remember in While you were Sleeping and Problem Child. The girl who says "Look dad it's a bear." Is the daughter of the puppeteer she is walking with is her dad Jerry Nelson. Her name was Christine and Jim gave her a spoken line so she could be a part of the Actor's Union she was in bad health and died in 1982. B.S.C. stands for British Society of Cinematographers, The man Gonzo took a picture of and gave him the money was Jim Henson. To explain a couple of the cameos: Peter Falk most famous for Lieutenant Columbo (who you know as the grandpa in Princess Bride) is the one who approaches Kermit on the park bench, Peter Ustinov was the driver Miss Piggy pulls out who did a lot of comedies and is in a film I recommend for HalloBeans: Blackbeard's Ghost, Some other HalloBeans suggestions: Haunted Honeymoon, Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983), The Watcher in the Woods (1980), Duel, The Haunting (1963), Frankenstein (1931), Dracula (1931), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1932), Nosferatu (1922),
The swimming scene is based on an old movie with Esther Williams. I think it is Million Dollar Mermaid. It has a very elaborate synchronized swimming scene. It is pretty amazing. I think Esther got hurt during the sequence.
Piggy pursues Kermit with all her heart, but Kermit is always too flustered to commit. But of course, that's one of the things Piggy loves about him, so the pursuit never ends 😁
Look up how they do the bicycles… I promise you, even knowing, it’s still magical to watch after ALL THESE YEARS. LOVE this movie. Miss Jim Henson in the world.
Oh Ashleigh...thank you so much for watching this movie. This was a childhood staple for me; I'm talking the formative years lol. This movie is so tightly wound into the fibers of who I am, it's crazy. Diana Rigg plays Lady Holiday, you may recognize her as Lady Tyrell from Game of Thrones. Her brother is played by Charles Grodin, who was the dad in the Beethoven movies...and he also had a small role in Rosemary's Baby as Dr. Hill. I've watched this movie my whole life and got the references and jokes as I grew up. So excited for the next Muppet movie!

Sweetums is the reason why I love characters who look mean and scary but are actually just big lovable lugs underneath it all 😁
She should watch Muppet Frog Prince.
@@iKvetch558 In the Muppetvision 3D attraction in Disney World, Sweetums actually walks out into the theater at one point, performed by a real person!
The late and great Diana Rigg a.k.a Lady Holiday...she was so stunning!
I feel like Lady Olena Tyrell would have some words with you for referring to Lady Holiday as a late Diana Rigg.......
But absolutely the GREAT Diana Rigg.
@@m1gramme well i meant cause she passed away, she was so stunning and sassy

The newspaper editor is Jack Warden. He's been a character actor in a lot of movies, including as the next-door neighbor in While You Were Sleeping.
And she saw him as the sex crazed father in Dirty Work.
You may recognize him from "12 Angry Men"... he was the one in the hat complaining about missing the ball game.
He’s also Big Ben Healy in Problem Child and the 1991 sequel.
I feel so fortunate to have lived on this planet during a time when Jim Henson was creating these movies, the Muppet Show, even Sesame Street (and let's not forget Farscape).
Farscape was not made while Henson was alive.
@@yosefdemby8792 While Jim had already passed, it was Jim Henson studios. Brian Henson, his son, is an executive producer on the show.
@@tofersiefken True.
Muppets from space is a must.
No dive into the world of Muppets can be complete without watching The Dark Crystal. It doesn't use the characters or storytelling of the Muppets, but it is Jim Henson and it uses ( and advances) Muppet technology - plus it's a bad ass movie.

When legendary stand up comedian Billy Connolly starred in Muppet Treasure Island, he sneakily asked one of the crew "Where do they keep all the Muppets when they're not being used ?"
The crew member gave him directions to the room and when he got there he opened the door and ALL the Muppets turned round to see who was at the door.
And Connolly was overjoyed.
You also really watch the two recent Muppet films, The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted
You mean they were somehow rigged to turn and face whoever opened the door?
OMG YES! The songs are a blast 😂
You mean they were all rigged to do that somehow?
Muppets Take Manhattan was always a favorite growing up. Muppet Christmas Carol is my favorite Muppet movie, though. 💜💜💜
The Muppets Take Manhattan is brilliant.
I watch Christmas Carol every year and Treasure Island is probably a close 2nd favorite Muppet movie.
This is the best Muppet movie IMO! I absolutely love it. Fun, funny and action packed with a great story and hilarious satire.
The truck driver Miss Piggy throws into the garbage was Sir Peter Ustinov. Ashleigh would probably know him as the voice of Prince John in Disney’s animated Robin Hood.
Came to the comments to see if anyone already pointed him out.
He’s also in a great comedy called Black Beard’s Ghost as the pirate himself! 😂
@@questworldiangreenknight7455 yep, with Dean Jones. I didn’t think Ashleigh was likely to know that one, though.
@@thefamilydad8635 another fun fact Dean Jones was part of the first cast for Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Company” as Bobby (the protagonist)
Peter Ustinov did a lot of things in his life, but for me he is always Hercule Poirot in _Death on the Nile_ (1978 - best version) and _Evil under the Sun_ (1982). Both movies are a ton of fun, full of star actors and great music.
Words don't accurately describe how much I enjoy this movie. This is off the wall Muppet perfection lol
Same!!
Can't wait for you to watch Muppets Take Manhattan!!!! It's so funny. ("Peoples is peoples. No is buildings. Is tomatoes, huh? Is peoples, is dancing, is music, is POTATOES! So, peoples is peoples. Okay?” ... words of wisdom to live by!) 😂😂😂😂
Now for Christmas you can watch “A Muppet Family Christmas” it’s my favorite Christmas movie.
A Very Merry Muppet Christmas is a nice story that would raise A LOT of questions when she watches it
Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas
Full figure Muppets on a bicycle was impressive. Having them turn circles was even more so.
"There's chickens here... Gonzo already has a b0ner!!!" Bahahaha 😂😂😂
yup, i lol'd at that too. it's so funny because it's most likely true.
That made me laugh so hysterically!😂😂😂
So, everyone's talking about Gonzo 's chicken fetish, *_(To think someone had one BEFORE Ed from Ed, Edd, & Eddy)_* but *_NOBODY_* realizes Beauregard crashing through the kitchen is the payoff to the Happiness Hotel song lyrics: "Don't try to order dinner, there's no kitchen anymore"?!?!?
I’m looking forward to Muppet Treasure Island.
Don't forget nearly headless Nick in Harry Potter.
@@redcelticdrake John Cleese
@JebWCManning Frank OZ who plays Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear also played Yoda as well ,
The Muppet show was filmed entirely in England because U.S networks rejected it until a British impresario and producer named Lew Grade who believed in Jim Henson decided to invest in his show .
Love the fact that the "big guy" muppet is called Sweetums.
Yeah this ones always been the one i like most, granted it was the first Muppet movie i ever saw as a kid so alot of its nostalgia.
Loved this watchalong with you! Really loved seeing Diana Rigg (Lady Holiday) again, a.k.a. Mrs James Bond and Lady Olenna Tyrell. I hope you get back to the James Bond franchise as well.
I was today years old when I found out that Animal prefers French Impressionist art to the Dutch Masters, plainly a... being of excellent taste.
It's especially funny because, in an episode of Muppet Babies, Piggy's looking for someone to paint a portrait of herself. One artist she tries is Pierre "Animal" Renoir.
"Me Renoir! Har-rar-rar-rar-rar-rar!"
My favourite joke of the movie. Who would've known Animal was a classical art buff? 😅
If she wants Sesame Street characters Follow That Bird is like the ultimate Sesame Street film
Diana Riggs played Lady Holiday. Yes, the Queen of Thorns from Game of Thrones starred in this in all her beautiful glory. I love it!
And what +1 Dame she was!
Omg I am SOOOOO excited for Muppet Treasure Island! My personal favorite.
My favorite Muppet film! This is such a genuinely funny, smart, silly, meta film! It honestly gets funnier the more times I watch it!
Has absolutely nothing to do with the meta and that is why it is good and entertaining. 👍🏻🇺🇸
When my teacher in English classes would ask "Does anyone know what exposition is". I would answer:
"it's the part of the story that is 'Why are you telling me this?'-it's exposition it has to go somewhere".
Everyone would be confused. I got to talk about my favorite movie is and everyone learned what exposition is though the greatest example.
Muppet treasure Island is my favorite one of all
I do have some nostalgia for Muppets Take Manhattan, but it almost completely abandons the fourth wall breaking, which is one of my favorite aspects of the Muppets.
22:40 - Yep, that is Peter Faulk who played Columbo!
I love it when you get into these things your personality is unconventional but charming.
"Is that Columbo?"
Yay, she got one!
🤣😜
The actor's name is Peter Falk.
The man having the dinner with the old woman you called boring is John Cleese from Monty Python and Harry Potter.
I haven’t seen this movie in probably 20 years and every second is coming back to me like an old memory fading into view. I used to watch this one so much!!! Can’t wait for Muppet Treasure Island, my favorite one!
I love this franchise so much and this was my first Muppet movie ever. I used to wear this vhs out as a kid!! So happy you’re reacting to these!!
Muppet Treasure Island has Billy Connolly as Billy Bones, and he holds the record as the only person to die in a Muppet movie!

For December, you need to see Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas. I hear it's a must-watch. Edit: I feel like they used an actual person for the "full-sized Miss Piggy" shot, like they used an actual person for some shots of Chucky in the tail-end of the original Child's Play.
Emmet Otter is one of my favorite Christmas movies! Would love her to watch that one
8:15 "Glossies" refers to professional photo prints (with a glossy finish). Before the internet and digital photos, people who wanted to break into show business would have some professional portraits taken, and go around giving them to agents, promoters, and agencies, trying to get noticed for job opportunities.
The guy who played Nicky Holiday is Charles Grodin, who played the father in the first two Beethoven movies, if you've ever seen those.
Lady Holiday is played by Diana Rigg, who you may know from Game of Thrones as Lady Olenna Tyrell.
Kermit's legs are so skinny that they are definitely safe from any restaurant. 😂 🐸
Gonzo's puppeteer was Dave Goelz.

Human-sized, crazy-eyed Mr Piggy is soon to become Ashleigh’s sleep paralysis demon
Just in case it hasn't been said, the freaky looking diving Miss Piggy was actually a human being in a Miss Piggy suit. Also this is my _second_ favorite Muppet movie. The next one is my favorite.
Ok I was hoping I was remembering that correctly. That diving scene always freaked me out as a kid 😂
This was my intro to Muppets. My brother and i use to watch this incessantly growing up.
“People really like Kermit riding a bike in the first movie so lets do that again but more”
Now we gotta do Muppet Treasure Island!!!! Tim Curry, pirates, muppets, it's great!
So first the whole film is more of an homage to old Hollywood Musicals specially the works of Busbly Berkly with "The First Time it Happens" Fred Astaire with "Steppin Out With a Star", and Esther Williams swimming films with theWater Ballet sequence,
You don’t have to worry about Gonzo his whole shtick is the daredevil guy who would do things no one else would,
The song "The First Time It Happens" was actually nominated for Best Original Song, but unfortunately losing to the awful "Arthur's Theme (The Best That You Can Do)" by Christopher Cross,
Lady Holiday was played by Diana Rigg who you saw as the Bond girl in On Her Majesty's Secret Service,
Not sure if you picked up on the joke, the running gag of Fozzie and Kermit being twins works because when you see them both with hats to everyone they will look identical like the photo in the desk of cameo Jack Warden who you will remember in While you were Sleeping and Problem Child.
The girl who says "Look dad it's a bear." Is the daughter of the puppeteer she is walking with is her dad Jerry Nelson. Her name was Christine and Jim gave her a spoken line so she could be a part of the Actor's Union she was in bad health and died in 1982.
B.S.C. stands for British Society of Cinematographers,
The man Gonzo took a picture of and gave him the money was Jim Henson.
To explain a couple of the cameos:
Peter Falk most famous for Lieutenant Columbo (who you know as the grandpa in Princess Bride) is the one who approaches Kermit on the park bench,
Peter Ustinov was the driver Miss Piggy pulls out who did a lot of comedies and is in a film I recommend for HalloBeans: Blackbeard's Ghost,
Some other HalloBeans suggestions:
Haunted Honeymoon,
Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983),
The Watcher in the Woods (1980),
Duel,
The Haunting (1963),
Frankenstein (1931),
Dracula (1931),
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1932),
Nosferatu (1922),
Wait, Jerry Nelson's daughter died? Geez! I had no idea!
The swimming scene is based on an old movie with Esther Williams. I think it is Million Dollar Mermaid. It has a very elaborate synchronized swimming scene. It is pretty amazing. I think Esther got hurt during the sequence.
Kermit and Piggy being and not being a thing is sortof a running theme with them. Mostly it's Miss Piggy chasing Kermy though.
Piggy pursues Kermit with all her heart, but Kermit is always too flustered to commit. But of course, that's one of the things Piggy loves about him, so the pursuit never ends 😁
Gonzo is my spirit animal! I love him so much.
Look up how they do the bicycles… I promise you, even knowing, it’s still magical to watch after ALL THESE YEARS. LOVE this movie. Miss Jim Henson in the world.

Animal doing his thing always makes me laugh. 😅
