Wow amazong look at the slicer now! Mine is many versions old cause suprise my perfectly good gaming/printing computer can't update to the new windows! Took me a while wondering where the new tree supports were to realize it cant update without the new windows that is of course more broken then the last.😅
Great project to demonstrate to the PrusaSlicer devs that it would be really nice to be able to define the origin of a part. Like, to have the Z position reference off the bottom (or top) of the part, rather than the middle. Or have X/Y in a corner instead of the center. It's not so bad with a "normal" part like this that has user-defined round numbers, but many many parts have irregular shapes that are sized in fractions of a mm. Having to figure out the center of those can be a total pain.
I am offended by: the middle part of the logo had sides which weren't black and you didn't show manual colorchanging, not everyone has an Toolchanger or an AMS. Sill great video with an interesting other channel
The sides and logo could have been black with one manual filament change - insert M600 in the gcode if your printer supports it. Prusa slicer will do that.
If you have multiple parts you don't have to paint at all. simply double click the colour band to the right of the object in the object list then select the tool number that associates with the colour you want that part to be
AWESOME, thank you soo much... never thought that i would maybe find a solution to a topic that bothers me since quite a while now, cybersecurity and all that, on one of ma favorite 3d printing channels ❤ will surely check Alex out... thank you very much mate !
Modeling in prusaslicer is handy. I’ve made simple geometry like washers and spacers with cylinders. You could also use this to watermark your prints with your logo on the first layer.
I just met Alex at LA Maker Faire and, would you believe it, I approached his booth specially because his 3D printed logo caught my eye! He was super friendly and seems to be doing cool work. Also this video was great - thanks!!
This 3D printing concept just got next-level! Forget pushing plastic through a nozzle, what if we built objects from the inside out, layer by layer, with a two part container? Imagine a two-part vat that spins while a fancy nozzle sprays a special resin, building the object layer by layer. But here's the twist: a UV light zaps each layer to harden it, and tiny magnets outside the vat can manipulate the resin for even crazier designs! Think dissolvable layers hidden within the object, or even tiny components placed precisely using magnetic fields. This "Morphing Matrix" could be a game-changer, letting us print objects with hidden compartments or even self-assembling parts! #FuturePrinting #MindBlown What do you guys think? Could this be the future of 3D printing?
I feel like this would be just as easy, if not easier to do in a cad program... though I suppose if someone is afraid of that they could always do it like this 🤷🏿♀️ "It's me just using lines!" That's all CAD, what do you mean SuperVinlin
Interesting I did a quick license check, i didn't notice anyone licensed fascinating. Hi Joel, no news for you other than I'm still working on it. I'll post when big guff happens.
Good information, I do wish painting in Prusa Slicer was a little smarter. On the logo only the top was black, it would be nice if you could color the sides at the same time. To color them you would have to select each segment. I have done that and it can be a big pain, especially if you miss one
I ****ing love 🤟🏼 you guys! 3DP Nerd is the Best! Love seeing the collab with Dev Kitty!!✌🏻 3DP empowering the people and bright minds! Not sure if you have done a best slicer in 2024 video yet. I would love to know your thoughts on what's available and what might be a new contender in the 3DP space.
Needed this as I needed to insert some flowers on some letters I modeled. So I wanted to use an image of some simple drawn flowers, convert to svg and apply to the face of the letters. Also filament swap on the print would’ve been cake minus the inner face of the border being black. Black base and black face would’ve been ideal in that case for those of without multi filament functionality (us peasants).
Interesting. This does save a step. It is just as easy to do this in Blender, but then you need to move it to the Slicer. It may not seem like much, but every few minutes saved is another few minutes on another project.
awesome joel and alex!!! i taught the same thing on bambu studio/ orca slicer on tiktok. now, I know more about prusa's ecosystem. wish I could get myself the XL as well.
JOEL! I started a "We want Joel" chant on Creality's live stream after you left hahaha was just pretty funny and Sam said he wanted joel, you, back too 😂😂
It's nice for slicers to add features which every single CAD and 3D modelling software already had for at least 10 years...Let's hope they can get on the problem of filament wasting on multi material and multi color prints (which is a slicer problem) before they add even more "useful" features like that.
So cool that you can do this JUST IN THE SLICER now! Love the logo, big approve 👌
I *KNEW* you would love that logo!

I recently created a video on this "Coaster Design in Slicer for 3D Printing" hope you find it helpful 😊👍
I love when you play teacher ❤❤❤
At this point slicer IS CAD!
As Orca Slicer is a fork of Bambu Studio which is a fork of Prusaslicer, can this be done in Orca Slicer?

YES ... Hack The Planet! Best background while working movie in my rotation!
you made it for him for free out of fear so he wouldn't hack your devices 😁

hahahahaha Hack the planet!
This is sort of how I discovered lithophanes years ago. I accidentally loaded a jpg into Cura, and it was like... "wait, what?"
Interesting I did a quick license check, i didn't notice anyone licensed fascinating.
Hi Joel, no news for you other than I'm still working on it. I'll post when big guff happens.
I have been saying for a while that PS should have more cad features. Design, slice, print - in one place

How do you make 3D printing videos as I’m trying to make some but they have all flopped
Technically still CAD. 😉
Can this be done in reverse in the slicer so you get that incredible bed texture???? Next video???? all n the slicer!!!!
When doing things like that it's often easier to use object coordinates instead of world coordinates.
Nice job👍I know how much work and effort has been put into this. Good job!🥰👌
I can use my electric drill like a hammer. Works fine and I never need to lean how to use a hammer.
Knowledge is power. Great job, Alex! Great guest, Joel!
There needs more of this type of thing!!!!! well done!!!
Nice!
Final product was amazing, but I might have done a few more top layers to stop the infill showing through.
turns out the infill showing through was cool - he used high power LEDs behind it and they lit it through and it looked cool!
I ****ing love 🤟🏼 you guys!

Hmm I have ideas for business cards now
My apartment is so small, both my 'living room' and 'kitchen' are one big print shop with so much pr4inting stuff I can't really cook much anymore LOL

theres an A1 mini in my kitchen right now
Crazy ....was just working in illustrator last night. Muddling my way to multi color print an svg file.🖇️

Finally someone from hak5 collabing with the 3d printing folks
Very cool... did you select ironing for the top layer?
No not on this one but futures ones I will!
HACK THE PLANET!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Slicer CAD!
prusa ftw.
Props for the use of a Monitor //c!
Awesome more like this please

High Five Joel!
What slicer app is this?🤔
Prusa Slicer. I could have sworn I said it in the video. I’ll go back and check.
sorry my bad
Great idea!
Interesting but not practical
Why not? Looks pretty straight forward.
But there is a Cat on the thumbnail the title is a lie.
How is it a lie?
