baldi’s did it right tbh. it came out with a perfect storm of concepts: it was funny, scary, weird all that. perfectly captured the 90s educational game vibe and that was it. it didn’t get turned into a franchise like a lot of people were conditioned to expect after stuff like fnaf. glad it existed.
Honestly, I gotta give props to the man. He never gave out big promises (The Day Before), he never chased for popularity (Hello Neighbour), he just made a game and f*cked with it so hard he stayed loyal to it, and on top of that he even kept a "classic" version to gice the fans the game they initially loved in case they might not appreacitate the road the game took. Baldi's might've lost it's initial rush, but it showed how a game with pure passiom behind it can have it's place in the gaming world. Ngl I might come back to Baldi's thanks to this video, I just appreacite the guy's constant care and passion for a funny game with 90's graphics and goofy voices
And at least you can tell he’s aiming to have it released when everything is polished. This game would probably be out far before Yandare Simulator would
I’ve personally been keeping up with baldi’s basics this whole time purely because of how funny the core concept is to me. most horror involves the protagonist having a deep narrative connection to the killer/location, or if they don’t have one before they develop it over the course of the game/movie/book/whatever. which is to say “you are a FIRST GRADER who SUCKS AT MATH so your TEACHER tries to KILL YOU” is both not a standard horror concept and completely hilarious. I think it much better resembles an actual nightmare a real first grader might have than a carefully crafted story a horror author would put together
You know, this actually fits quite well. I remember as a kid discovering “pron” for the first time, and keeping it secret. Eventually saw those fake ads saying your phone was hacked and you had to pay a fine, which were absolutely terrifying. I once got one that actually was really bad; it not only prevented me from opening anything else in safari, but had an active countdown for 24hrs before charging me 2000$ because of some reason that sounded scary. I somehow thought my entire life was over if I couldn’t get rid of it lol.
@@weewoo5486when I was little I repeatedly had nightmares about a game where I made a cute pet character in like a flash game typa thingy, but once I finished making it I was sucked into the game and the pet chased me down and killed me
I played a game about snakes when I was little and ever since then I've had a recurring nightmare where there's snakes lining the fence line of my house and there's an albino one that slowly looks at me, then my house turns to snakes and they all stare at me, but if I go to run into my house (because the house is made of snakes but the inside isn't yet), the snakes chase me inside and all turn into one snake but not really one snake bc they teleport kinda, and chase me around the inside of my house, but it's not the inside of my house, it's the inside of a log cabin in a Hispanic country that has a race going on as a wedding tradition? But if I join the race it turns to snakes and I wake up before I can get any further. The only time I ever lucid dream is at the end when I realize I'm asleep before getting sucked out of the dream. Games can fuck children up, man. Still have that nightmare at least once every two months.
I don't think many people realize this game is a satirical horror game, obviously poking fun at things like old educational games but also at horror franchises like fnaf or bendy
i’m pretty sure null’s weird speech and why he says it’ll “get corrupted” was because one of the school rules was no fourth wall breaks, so he had to word his speech strangely. little detail i noticed
this would’ve been a lot easier to tell if this dude did more research on this game. There’s a lot of extra info that would’ve been nice but this just a nitpick. Also fun fact: People have theorized that Null (aka FileName2) actually interrupts Baldi in the sequence in which you get all the notebook and yells “GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN”, it is actually Null telling YOU to exit the game before it’s too late.
some things stick with you your whole life and some things, you really care about for a while, then you grow up, move on, and find something else to care about. its a bit sad, but its life, i suppose. all about change.
this dev seems cool. he didn’t sell out and focus on trying to ride the wave, he didnt get angry or sad when the popularity of his game died out, he simply just.. worked. he just wants to make a game that appeals to his interests while making others happy. thats kind of beautiful, more admirable than getting success.
Gunna be honest, I think main reason it did fall off is because it DIDN'T follow the "hidden lore" thing. Look at most of popular horror / horror-esk indie games, they all were pushing some kind of lore and thats what people were interested in, not just indie horror itself. Look what hello neighbor did, they tried to fish matpat and destroyed their game trying to do it even though it was popular for a short while. But others like poppys playtime, banban, my friendly neighborhood, iron lung, bendy, happys humble burger farm all were either hinting at lore you gotta look for or implemented it. To make it more interesting. While I enjoyed watching and playing baldi, it was just a game, felt more like a speedrunning game than horror or stealth or whatever its suppose to be. Just felt like an indie game with a retro twist.
Well, [PT] (a game that was supposed to enter development around 2016) and main focus of my channel, has a lot of hidden lore, the difference being: 1) It's not forced unlike those previous cases 2) It feels natural because it's part of the game world 3) The lore was already written by myself a lot of time ago, a big turnoff in games, is that often people make them without a lore behind it, which causes said lore to not feel comfortable in the game world (a.k.a world building), take for example hello neighbor..... The lore must be written first, and then the game should be built upon it. If you do the opposite, it will feel unnatural.
That's interesting cause the main reason I used to like Baldi back then was *because* it didn't have any weird lore I had to care about. Just a fun game to pick up and play whenever.
Honestly it's for the best. Convoluted stories just for the sake of driving engagement through theory videos is one of the things burning people out on mascot horror anyway. It was essentially a parody edutainment game with some unsettling elements first and foremost. Like I love long form content as much as the next guy but I'd rather have a game that knew it didn't have much to say than try to act like it did.
100% it took the core gameplay loop of the slenderman horror games, perfected it by adding new enemies and items, and took at twist in the horro aestetic by being a satirical take on it
Baldi’s Basics and Tattletail are two series that didn’t over stay their welcome like fnaf and hello neighbor did. They deserve to be remembered, but they do NOT need sequels!
I LOVED Tattletail when it came out. It actually got me into Furby collecting (which I havent gotten far into.) It was a great game that I like to come back to every Christmas.
FNaF didn't overstay its welcome, it more so overcame it. It takes a certain kind of person like Scott to be as good a marketer and game developer while still giving the people who are interested a right amount of fan service with a pinch of relevant memery. And at the same time collaborating with companies for both marketing and game developing while still being as popular as FNaF is. Meanwhile Hello Neighbor was just on their knees begging for any sort of clout they could get, being incredibly pathetic in how they wanted to market their game.
As a VERY hardcore fan of Baldis Basics, and being part of the community, i cant really blame people for forgetting about the game, it isnt like FNAF and its consistent content coming out every year. And like you said in the video, its understandable why considering the game is made by one person only. Its really surprising to see the game mentioned every once in a while though! Love that this video brought more light to the game.
I defo agree with you I think poppy playtime killed it a bit tbh miss delight reminds me of baldi basic I'm also pretty sure that's what she was based of
The main reason baldi died was because of the competition there was fnaf poppy playtime and bendy and gartan baban took the spotlight for mascot horrer for children and baldi just died it had a lack of story etc I understand why people left it got old just running around the lack of story killed it the most tbh while bendy poppy fnaf all have a good story and great characters baldi doesn't and the kids all left for gartan of ban ban esspacily because the community is small now I mean just check the steam charts when I checked now it had 72 players
"Forget" is a strong word here, like Slenderman, this game is still part of my brain it just not part of my routine daily thought process, but if I were to actually forget I will be like "Oh... what is this game again? I do recognize it.... Hmmm.... Uhhhh.... OHHH IT'S BALDI!" so, no.
Yeah the implication is a little strange. Like, no one forgot it, it's just old enough to be out of the every day talk cycle. Things aren't forgotten just because people aren't talking about them every day
@@Torvinoid things are forgotten when nobody talks about them anymore, because they eventually become so obscure than nobody is even alive to remember them and search for them, if they still online. Popular games (yes, this thing was popular) like this are just popular for the memes, so its easier for people to forget about them, so yeah, baldi and other tiny "horror" games like these will be forgotten, just like hello neighboor, slenderman, or even others like friday night, among us. Tiny games that become popular because of memes and not because of the quality. And thats also why indie games like undertale, hollow knight, on the other hand haven't been forgotten, and they stayed as classics.
It might have declined in popularity, but Micah’s dedication to his craft and his ability to keep going with this game is honestly inspiring. Amazing video about an amazing game. I’ll be sure to check it out soon.
to be fair, i NEVER forgot baldis basics. that stupid principal is burned into my brain. edit: how am i still getting replies on this comment what the heck
Well as a person part of the Baldi’s Basics community that-despite how long the games been around-is still decently thriving, I wouldn’t say EVERYONE forgot the game. Nonetheless, the game IS still a “trend game”, so people outside of its community likely have forgotten about it.
The remaster made it popular for a bit Also mods and fangames are cool to watch on youtube Like before the new year, I watched and played Raldi's crackhouse
I never forgot baldi's basic, watching null just stop existing while playing on an all nighter burned into my brain, specially on how i woke uo and saw how "null style" changed to glitch style when i woke up, made me wonder if i was on the right side when i was playing
its popular again with the new update (not exactly popular as it was before, but it is definetly not forgotten and its community very much active and alive due to the new update)
when watching this video i thought that character looked familiar but i could not remember even one person ever call him null, i've always only heard filename_02
In some cases when a popular game dies down, it always gives off a memorable, nostalgic feeling when you revisit it or it gets a sequel or update years later. I think Baldi represents that well since while it didn't peak for very long, we still have fond memories of it and still root for the developer even if it takes a longer to put something out.
Micah deserves to be praised for sticking with the game despite its unexpected popularity. Nowadays, it's not unusual for game developers to face similar ordeals, take on massive workloads, eventually give in to their own stress and pressure, and then fail to meet their deadlines and deliver their promises. (I'm looking at you FNF...) Also, great video! You should totally keep doing this kind of retrospective analysis. I'd like to see you cover Hello Neighbor
I definitely didn't forget Baldi's Basics existed, but I had no idea it was still being developed. Honestly, hats off to the dev, he seems really wholesome and, as an artist, I definitely understand how freaking difficult it is to create good content, let alone at a fast pace. Such a shame that the general media and algorithms focus too much on quantity over quality. I'm glad he's still doing it in spite of everything, good luck to him
Baldi to me will never be forgotten. I remember first playing through the game learning what it was all about, and started to learn a pattern on how to get through the challenges. After a while, I got use to it and had a blast playing the games especially Classic Remastered which is still my favorite in the series. So to this day, I will remember Baldi as one of the things that made me truly learn education while also having fun playing a horror game at the same time.
It's honestly funny because Baldi's Basic was a parody game that was so good that most people can't detect the satire it has in it. Edit: Holy shit, never expected to get the amount of likes.
@@Rayman-kddz2not to mention the kid hes beating DOESNT EVEN GO TO THE SCHOOL, and is only there to get notebooks for somebody who goes to eating class
@@YourLocalRaider without that "just in case" it would literally be impossible to tell that you're satirizing the kind of person who would make that joke and it would just be you making that joke. y'know, it's still hard to tell.
It's honestly so refreshing when a video essay is about something going right rather than going horribly wrong, especially when it comes to indie/mascot horror. Admittedly I never really looked at Baldi's much when it was at its peak, but knowing that it was a tongue-in-cheek parody of the types of games popping up at the time and that its creator is minding his own business and working on it over time has given me newfound respect and even interest in its development going forward. I hope Micah is able to succeed and that the full Baldi's game does well, you can tell even as a spoof that it's a labor of love at its core.
I was there when Baldi's Basics first came out and began blowing up. Manlybadasshero was the person who introduced me to this game, and I became so interested in Baldi's Basics since then.
I've never personally forgotten this game. Cause, every now and then, I just randomly say; "Gotta... Sweep, sweep, sweep!" Or; "Looks like it's sweepin' time!" Typically whenever I go to sweep up something. So Baldi is still in my brain. Also, the Principal...
So what could sprint at the speed of light? Never ever heard of that, neither have any of the people I know so I am guessing it must be either new or it's also forgotten
I will never forget this game because in 2018 one of my friends always wanted to play it at recess but I didn't know what it was so we couldn't, he tried explaining it to me but as a 8 year old I didn't want to listen and we just kept playing fnaf irl. One Friday our class learned he died in a car accident, not a fun Friday that's for sure. After that day I decided to finally play it and I realized what we missed out on.
My thought would be that people just moved on, like there’s many games nowadays that are way bigger than Baldi we see that are huge hype for a week or a month but die out very quickly due to another new game releasing after it.
I think the reason why Baldi's Basics haven't caught on quite as much as for example FNAF is because the latter had a huge approach on lore, which lit the creativity fire within certain content creators and community. People are much more impatient for the next installment when there are huge mysteries going on in the background and people want more clues to keep that fire lit.
I think also fnaf never really stop pumping out stuff scott was over here grinding with a new game every year for awhile which kept it kinda fresh in peoples mind Edit: also most people few fnaf as the origins of mascot horror or atleast mordern mascot horror so it makes sense why its remembered as much
Personally, I never completely forgot about that game for the sole reason that I have a picture of Baldi with the ruler in his hand saying "say that again and I will shove this ruler where the sun don't shine" and I have been using it religiously since 2018
I never forgot Baldi's Basics because I first heard of the game late May early June of 2018, which was one of the best summers I've had and I found myself looking back at those times especially during COVID. The fact the the game is almost six years old is unfathomable.
This game was such a fever dream, it’s kind of hard to actually believe it was even a thing. It was big because it was weird and looked distinct, at least to me. I dunno, it just was so out there that it doesn’t feel real. But “GOTTA SWEEP SWEEP SWEEP!!!” will haunt my nightmares.
haha yeah true, its the kinda games that you think back on and think "wait was that real" and then you look it up again and remember that yes, it was real and very much glorious
There is one last thing that re-confirms Null's dissapearance in remastered and it is tied to an easter egg. Iirc when you get jumpscared by Baldi you have a chance to get a fake error screen that shuts the game. But if you beat Null, see him dissapear and then get that screen in an unrelated run, it will glitch out and show a photo of Null besides a lake, and finally, it shows his head and arms, the limbs he is known for NOT having in his model, just… vanishing, accompanied with an awful scream, the photo slowly deletes, piece by piece, and the game closes. I guess it is Mystman's way to tell us that Null's story ends here…. Also small fun fact: In party style of the remaster, if you use the teleporter AFTER you unleash the glitched red Baldloons, you actually get a new interaction with Null in the office! …which is basically him screaming while his sorroundings dissapear due to the Baldloons (because yes, in remastered, instead of just clogging the schoolhouse second floor, they delete any walls that they touch, there is actually a secret room in the second floor you can only access if any baldloon deletes a wall so you can leave and find it)
Honestly, it’s almost like Tattletail. It started off as a really good game that everyone played, but overtime, it just faded into obscurity. Baldis Basics is made by one person, so I can understand it’ll take time for the creator to finish his game. While it’s gameplay reminds me of those old educational games, I do admit there could have been better ways to give the players a chance to unlock the secrets. One perfect example is in the classic BB, by answering all the questions wrong, you go to Baldis office, only to find FileName 2. The more wrong questions you have, the faster Baldi is. It would be better if he stayed at the speed he usually is at when you play the game normally. Overall, the game is a solid 8/10. Obviously it has its flaws, but it’s still cool.
i dont think it faded into obscurity, more like it fit snugly into its niche, and people that enjoy the bigger picture that the niche is in find it and join that community. it's much smaller, but it's what happens when something goes viral, one day the high is over, it takes way too many resources to stay viral for years on end. Take granny, doors, that charlie the train one, 3008... theyre all still kicking, just not on the mainstream conciousness anymore Idk it might be because i was part of microscopic communities for the most of my time on the internet, but having a tiny community isnt a death sentence, guys. it doesnt equate to none
Tbf, Baldi's extra boost in speed if you answer all of the questions wrong is temporary. The thing works like this: Each notebook has three questions in it, with the third being unanswerable. Answering wrong the third adds to Baldi's Anger Level, which boosts his speed. But answering wrong the first and second ones add to the Temporary Anger Level, which fades with time.
I love how well the dev pulled off the early 2000's educational game look, he did it perfectly! I love the parts and characters that are 3D, he nailed the visuals
It was one of those indie horror games that become super popular for a few years before people eventually forget about them. Like Granny, Momo, Hello Neighbour and soon, Poppy Playtime.
@@dejus_e Buddy do you live under a rock? Poppy playtime Chapter 3 just released and just about every youtuber is playing it, were you high when making this comment?
baldis basics is the reason I am who I am today. I was like ten, role-playing as playtime with my sister while listening to basics in behavior by tlt. that freaking game was so perfect in my eyes. It gave me my love for character creating and roleplaying, and its forever shall lie in a soft warm space in my heart.
This honestly sounds like a classic case of project fatigue/burnout. Good to know that Micah finally got the motivation to continue development steadily again!
no, it's really just a case of something like development hell. He hasn't explicitly stated that he needs a break, but having gone on for how many years I'm pretty sure he's probably been able to manage it just fine. tech debt with poor development choices early on sounds a lot more like what happened, especially with how rapidly he was sending out updates for those likely-held-together-with-duct-tape-and-glue demos
I actually never forgot it ever. The song “You’re Mine” is still stuck in my smooth brain, especially THAT scene of Baldi shaking his two tooshies down the halls💀
Even though Baldi’s Basics lost popularity quickly, the creator is probably so glad that his game had been a popular hit game for a great amount of time. I’m glad that Baldi’s Basics was popular enough to be remembered at the smallest glance. It proves that even though the game may not be the best horror game to ever be made. It still gained enough popularity for enough time to be recognisable as a great horror game that will go down in the halls of horror game history. Maybe I should list off some of the games that go down with it. (Please note that these are not in any specific order) Baldi’s Basics in Education and Learning. Five Nights at Fredyy’s 1, 2, 3, 4, Sister Location, Pizzeria Simulator, UCN, VR, AR. (Not gonna include Security Breach or it’s Ruin DLC, they’re too new and doesn’t capture the original feeling you get playing the older games) Silent Hill 2. (This one was the best out of the series of Silent Hill games) Slender: The Eight Pages. Hello Neighbour. Tattle Tale. Emily Wants To Play. If you have anymore you want me to add, please tell me! 😊
10:48 DaVinci Resolve user spotted! I've had that happen too, weird bug where it just fails to render an image for a singular frame. Just thought I'd point it out for funsies, amazing video as always! I can consistently watch every upload regardless of how long it takes to go up 💙
Baldi is the only one of the games that capitalized on FNAF’s success that I genuinely really still enjoy. To me, its self-aware nature and absurd sense of humor are what make it a lot more special to me than something like Bendy, Poppy, or BanBan.
@@Crackedcripple Bendy recovered with the newer game though. Not many indie darlings can say they recovered like that. Fnaf's been a little rocky, I say that as a Fnaf fan, and Poppy (while improving its quality) is still taking major plotpoints and ideas from other franchises.
@@crafterrium8724 FNAF ended up largely being responsible for the mascot horror genre which Baldi's Basics belongs to due to its way of turning something normally innocent and harmless (in this case, edutainment games) and making it scary; and also due to its complicated lore.

I love how informative this video was. It made me want to play Baldis Basics again. I usually don't listen to a while lot of videos on video games like this, but this was actually very interesting to listen to. Definitely earned a sub from me. Also, the music playing in the background made me want to okay Undertale and Stardew Valley again.
i'll say that while baldi's basics isn't anywhere near as popular, it's still got a fanbase. Still a shame it got forgotten to an extent, and 1st prize will remain a lovable memory to me even if i forget the game
I’m pretty sure there’s stuff in the works officially. Back in December, mystman revealed a new character named dr reflex, who looks like Wallace on crack
I forgot about it 'cause the joke kinda ran it's course. It served it's purpose as a 90's edutainment game parody, had some fun little updates/new stuff but when the dust settled that was pretty much it. It did what it set out to do, and really that's all one can expect or want from it.
Glad to know Baldi's Basics development is still ongoing, I knew there was a plus version, but forgot about it later, thanks for the info and great video and editing
I never really thought about Baldi's Basics, but after seeing this video, I think I'm gonna give mike my regards and respect. Being a solo developer is such a draining task no matter what you do. and I can still see the passion in his work all these years later. As far as I'm concerned, He can take as long as he needs, as long as he's enjoying what he is doing.

Everyone here saying that they would never forget this game absolutely got me feeling butterflies in my stomach, it doesn't matter how many newly games fandoms l joined, baldi's basics will always had a place in my heart, and it's a special one. ❤
i would venture to say that this game wasn't really MEANT to go beyond its initial purpose, but the fact that it did (and yes, there is still a fan base for it and passion surrounding it) is pretty special. the circumstances surrounding its development made it necessary for it to be made super quickly and with fast creativity, so now that the dev has all the time in the world but with using a game like this as the basis, i think it's understandable seeing the progression of updates. but i really hope to see more from him!!
As a Baldi fangirl, I’ve been obsessed and in the fandom for four whole years now lol. (I swear, I’m not cringe) Even though the game is pretty simple, the characters and idea are very fun. The fandom is super great at adding their own twists to the characters, which is why I love to be around it. The null “lore” in the new plus game really brought the fandom back to life for a while. Sad it died down, I hope this video revives it a little more, that’d be awesome ^^
I remember when this game first exploded back in 2018. I had no idea about sone of the things that inspired the look, so it’s nice to hear the backstory on the game’s initial development. I never fully forgot the game though, as it always stuck firmly in my head.
No one "forgot" the game - the internet and the world moved on. That's just how that goes? Baldi's Basics will, probably, stand the test of time like "Slenderman: The Eight Pages" or other games of that nature that catch on.
I never forgot baldi. I recently started getting back into baldis basics because of my friends love for it, but there’s rarely anyone involved with it now. Baldi’s basics was one of my favorite nostalgic games during that time. I don’t actually see it as a horror game either, it just seems so fun and bright for people to mess with. I miss the old fandoms of the internet, like where Creepypasta’s were still so popular, and when fnaf was just made, along with all the other nostalgic games.
Every time I see one of those green brooms around I have to pause and appreciate it. I actually saw one this week, and it made me a bit happy honestly.
Fun fact, on this day, 7/4/24, I beat the secret ending on my first attempt. I’ve never forgotten this game and tbh it’s given me PTSD 😭 I’ve never forgotten
Never truly forgot about baldis, mostly because it left an impression due to it being the first time I actually got to have an interaction with a game developer whose game I enjoyed, he was merely answering my questions, but it left an impression. Every so often I would think about it, and wondered how development was going. Good to know he's still working and hasn't abandoned it.
Im glad the comments are with me on not forgetting this. Mark's videos are some of my comfort videos because I enjoy watching him actively learn and overcome, even if I've seen them a million times. Plus they're now inside jokes between my husband and I. Baldi's is just a really nice inside joke. Edit: seems poetic that the next Baldi update comes out on our anniversary too lol
I thought I’d give this video a watch not to remember baldis but more because I was intrigued from the title because baldis was considered unique and iconic to me that I never forgot about it. Hell, I always went back to my fav creators play throughs, I found new creators I enjoy nowadays gameplays on it a genuinely get excited, and if someone hasn’t played it yet I make sure to recommend it. It’s crazy to me that a game I found iconic and unique, was just a nostalgic memory to others. You provided a lot of lore, background and other things I didn’t even notice and I appreciated that. Loved the insight and hopefully others get a better appreciation for baldis!
baldi’s did it right tbh. it came out with a perfect storm of concepts: it was funny, scary, weird all that. perfectly captured the 90s educational game vibe and that was it. it didn’t get turned into a franchise like a lot of people were conditioned to expect after stuff like fnaf. glad it existed.
He tried turning it into a bigger IP years later when the gears slowed down.
yep
Yeah
If they could have turned it into a franchise they would have. I don't think the devs were like "nahhhhhhh" to wheelbarrows full of money.

oh my gosh, hello neighbour is so tragic. the second hand embarrassment from those matpat tweets damages my soul each time i think abt it
I’ve personally been keeping up with baldi’s basics this whole time purely because of how funny the core concept is to me. most horror involves the protagonist having a deep narrative connection to the killer/location, or if they don’t have one before they develop it over the course of the game/movie/book/whatever. which is to say “you are a FIRST GRADER who SUCKS AT MATH so your TEACHER tries to KILL YOU” is both not a standard horror concept and completely hilarious. I think it much better resembles an actual nightmare a real first grader might have than a carefully crafted story a horror author would put together
tbh same it reminds me of a fucked up nightmare ihad a wee lad ((used to play similar flash games, one was this cats and dogs one))

@@SeresuteSchoolgirl normally leads to less motivation to finish a game, least from what ive seen on the internet.
@@bignosh Ohh okay, thank u sis
hes the one dev that made a popular indie game that literally NO ONE had any allegations against.
But hey, at least now it's a hidden gem and not a surface dirt.
Well, [PT] (a game that was supposed to enter development around 2016) and main focus of my channel, has a lot of hidden lore, the difference being:
1) It's not forced unlike those previous cases
2) It feels natural because it's part of the game world
3) The lore was already written by myself a lot of time ago, a big turnoff in games, is that often people make them without a lore behind it, which causes said lore to not feel comfortable in the game world (a.k.a world building), take for example hello neighbor.....
The lore must be written first, and then the game should be built upon it.
If you do the opposite, it will feel unnatural.
one of those is not like the other. banban is a shit game
I'm so glad that the story of baldi doesn't contain any scammy kickstarter or abandoned games. Rip null though
Nulls sudden cut of existence could by extent add more horror to the game itself i believe
I feel like Baldi shouldn't be remembered as a mascot horror game, but as a satirical take of the genre.
This one single game is better than the entire genre IMO

OH HELL YEAH, man tattletail is iconic, too bad it didn't have as good of a run as BBIEAL

@@Torvinoid things are forgotten when nobody talks about them anymore, because they eventually become so obscure than nobody is even alive to remember them and search for them, if they still online.

I’m surprised to see few mentions of Granny
i dont think it faded into obscurity, more like it fit snugly into its niche, and people that enjoy the bigger picture that the niche is in find it and join that community. it's much smaller, but it's what happens when something goes viral, one day the high is over, it takes way too many resources to stay viral for years on end.
Take granny, doors, that charlie the train one, 3008... theyre all still kicking, just not on the mainstream conciousness anymore
Idk it might be because i was part of microscopic communities for the most of my time on the internet, but having a tiny community isnt a death sentence, guys. it doesnt equate to none
Tbf, Baldi's extra boost in speed if you answer all of the questions wrong is temporary.
The thing works like this:
Each notebook has three questions in it, with the third being unanswerable. Answering wrong the third adds to Baldi's Anger Level, which boosts his speed. But answering wrong the first and second ones add to the Temporary Anger Level, which fades with time.

It became so big and was forgotten so fast. Also, damn, it came out in 2018? Fuck man
basically every popular trending horror game in a nutshell
Feel old
Fuck indeed man.
holy shit 6 years ago????
Nah 2018?! Noooo man nooo wtf....
7:03 Actually, he screams at you when you have collected 7 notebooks. To avoid him, you would have to look away from Arts and Crafters
But like, I looked away and he still teleported me.
@@LeviLL1666 Once Crafters starts chasing you, it's too late
TO BE FAIR, whenever i see a bald man it makes me automatically think of baldi
baldi has a piece of hair 😦
DWAYNE JOHNSON IS BALDI CONFIRMED!?!?
my dad frfr
@@ihavenoideawhatimdoing23 but... irl you cannot have a strand of hair
Yes you can... You just havent met a skilled enough barber@@IshuraN
i find it hilarious how this video came out not even a month before 0.4 which literally revived the ENTIRE fandom 💀
That principle whistle is never forgotten
Cuz it’s Banana Joe’s whistle
@@TRVLEXUi feel like that whistle is from something else
i could be wrong tho
This game was the game that gave me PTSD for a while of a ruler hitting anything making that slapping noise.
really like baldi. i never really forgot about it and although i do kind of back away for a whole usually, i always end up coming back
The principal's whistling still sometimes echoes in the back of my mind
i'll say that while baldi's basics isn't anywhere near as popular, it's still got a fanbase. Still a shame it got forgotten to an extent, and 1st prize will remain a lovable memory to me even if i forget the game
I’m pretty sure there’s stuff in the works officially. Back in December, mystman revealed a new character named dr reflex, who looks like Wallace on crack
Tbh i think no one actually forgot Baldi cuz its such an iconic game with so many fun stuff that just gets stuck in your mind forever
I forgot about it 'cause the joke kinda ran it's course. It served it's purpose as a 90's edutainment game parody, had some fun little updates/new stuff but when the dust settled that was pretty much it. It did what it set out to do, and really that's all one can expect or want from it.
The irony is that a month after this video released the Your Rizz song blew up and Baldi is popular again
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE LOL
Glad to know Baldi's Basics development is still ongoing, I knew there was a plus version, but forgot about it later, thanks for the info and great video and editing
I never really thought about Baldi's Basics, but after seeing this video, I think I'm gonna give mike my regards and respect. Being a solo developer is such a draining task no matter what you do. and I can still see the passion in his work all these years later. As far as I'm concerned, He can take as long as he needs, as long as he's enjoying what he is doing.
I will never forget the words "LETS GO CAMPING!!"
firewood.
I WANT THOSE STICKS!!!
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
-Arts and Crafters, 2019 (or 2018, or maybe even 2020 idk)
im happy that baldi's basics is getting slightly more popular due to the release of fundemental paper education
Yeah... I just noticed that❤ baldi's basics is such a good game
I watched it once and now my recommended videos are mostly slop
Raldi's Crackhouse personally reinvigorated my interest for Baldi's Basics. Who knew that a fan-made mod of Baldi would be so fun?
@xQcBiggestFan the garfield ONES. There were a lot of them and they had some deep ass lore
same!!
I’ll never really forget this game. A lot of my “good Ol’ days” were spent eating chips and watching baldi basics ask blog comic dubs
Same! Especially VOAdam’s dubs! I’d binge those religiously, I swear
No being emotional in the halls
😂😂❤
Null: Wow, great job.
Also Null: *GETO UT WAHOLE SYOU STIL CAN*
Everyone here saying that they would never forget this game absolutely got me feeling butterflies in my stomach, it doesn't matter how many newly games fandoms l joined, baldi's basics will always had a place in my heart, and it's a special one. ❤
I NEVER forgot Baldi.
I have just been vibing out, seeing what happens with this cool game.
i would venture to say that this game wasn't really MEANT to go beyond its initial purpose, but the fact that it did (and yes, there is still a fan base for it and passion surrounding it) is pretty special. the circumstances surrounding its development made it necessary for it to be made super quickly and with fast creativity, so now that the dev has all the time in the world but with using a game like this as the basis, i think it's understandable seeing the progression of updates. but i really hope to see more from him!!
As a Baldi fangirl, I’ve been obsessed and in the fandom for four whole years now lol. (I swear, I’m not cringe)
Even though the game is pretty simple, the characters and idea are very fun. The fandom is super great at adding their own twists to the characters, which is why I love to be around it.
The null “lore” in the new plus game really brought the fandom back to life for a while.
Sad it died down, I hope this video revives it a little more, that’d be awesome ^^
Darn you even got your own Baldisona
"No stabbing people with pencils in the halls" "No breaking the forth wall in the halls" So does principal know that he's in a game to?
I remember when this game first exploded back in 2018. I had no idea about sone of the things that inspired the look, so it’s nice to hear the backstory on the game’s initial development.
I never fully forgot the game though, as it always stuck firmly in my head.
what i love about the bully is that he's a reference to an old pilotredsun video called preschool bully
No one "forgot" the game - the internet and the world moved on. That's just how that goes? Baldi's Basics will, probably, stand the test of time like "Slenderman: The Eight Pages" or other games of that nature that catch on.
Yeah it kinda has solidified itself in the history of indie games at this point it wont be fully forgotten
@@CojaGamezand youre right! A roblox animator revived the game!
I actually saw one this week, and it made me a bit happy honestly.
for one ive been excited for the new bb+ update for a while now idc if it got *less* popular it still def has a fanbase
To be honest, this game serves well as a criticism to the whole Mascot Horror genre, and it launched even before the genre had a name.
Fun fact, on this day, 7/4/24, I beat the secret ending on my first attempt. I’ve never forgotten this game and tbh it’s given me PTSD 😭
I’ve never forgotten
Man the background music you pick for your videos, this one in particular, make you’re videos like a non-stop nostalgia trip for me.
