    I bought a KITCHENAID KDFM404KPS in 2021 less than $1099. The first unit had noise issues involving a bum motor-it was replaced with the exact same model (Home Depot purchase and install) and so far I am happy. The operation controls are recessed and exposed to view, and there is no protruding handle-I prefer this operational .setup. So far I am very pleased.

    I've had my 204 for four weeks soap dispenser door already not closing and latching...... My review yes it's under warranty yes the repair man will be here next week between 8 o'clock and 4 o'clock....... USA junk! My last dishwasher lasted 17 years no repairs.

    Timely. I'm looking to replace a 15 YO Kitchenaid. I like that I can repair the Kitchenaid myself. The old one has been relatively problem free, but, it looks like the motherboard is breathing her last. It doesn't handle ground spices well either, which requires wiping dishes clean, or taking the dishwasher apart every 8-10 months to clean the sump and filter. I like the door handle as a towel rack.

    Great video. Bosch with crystal dry was probably my first choice, but I was told it would be >12 months to get one. I ended up getting the Kitchenaid 604. I considered the 704, but I don't think a light is necessary and I couldn't tell the difference between the rails.

    • @YaleAppliance1

      The Biggest difference is the pro dry in the 604. It's better. That said, the 604s are hard to come by right now so if someone has a 404 in stock near you and you can't wait for a dishwasher I would consider it.

    If you are buying one of the new KitchenAid washers decibel level is important. The wash time for a normal cycle can be over 2 hours and a heavy or sanitized cycle up to 4. clearly these new washers are intended to be used overnight. 39db is whisper quiet. sometimes the only way i know its going are buy the signal lights. Blue for washing red for drying and white for finished

    I have a 1993 KitchenAid Superba. It uses a lot of water (that's a good thing) and takes much less than an hour, even with the soak cycle option. I keep my water heater on 150 degress, so the 'water heating' is very fast (2 or 3 minutes). Everything has always come clean. She's getting old, and I think I'll have to replace her soon. My new dishwasher doesn't need to be quiet. I like hearing all the little clicks and things as the cycle progresses. I want to buy a dishwasher that will give me 30 years, I want one that uses a lot of water, and I definitely want one that the racks glide in and out with no effort (like the one I have). Is there such a thing? Or should I go on a hunt for another 1993 KitchenAid and just keep mine running forever?

    You have the best videos I always check them out! I have an old KitchenAid KUDM24SE that is still chugging along and cleaning fine but cosmetically not that great the membrane covering the buttons have smashed through on some. I have an adult blind son that lives with me and it seems he's usually the one to start the dishwasher... so going to touchscreen controls will be an adjustment for him. I plan on trying braille tape or something similar to label the most used buttons if that's even possible like with our microwave. Are there any defaults to where you can press the Start button a couple of times and it'll select a cleaning and a drying mode then start the wash? Another question since I'm considering the KDTM604 is it's overall design hard to load considering you have 3 racks with a larger than normal third rack? Finally I really appreciate Yale Appliance compiling a list of the most reliable appliances and then further breaking down the best/brand model in each category. What would really be interesting though is the number of service calls that are made for said brand/models in the first 5 years. For example you rate the KDTM604 pretty high so going by KitchenAid trends and your stats will there likely be an major repair in the first 4 to 5 years (or later on) of ownership? I read where a 30 year appliance repairman commented that like clockwork the pump motor would go out within the first 5 years for past KitchenAid models. Just hoping the KDTM604 model didn't continue that trend.

      Yes, Miele has machines that you can cycle through programs with a single button. There are also some integrated dishwashers that have buttons for each cycle. They are not all LED display boards.

    I’m downsizing to an 18” and so far my best choice is the Bosch 800 series with PureDry. My first choice was an 18” GE, but they use condensate dry. Between the two or if you know of another, better one, which drying feature works better?
    Also, my current dishwasher is a 24” Frigidaire with the turn knob. I love turning it to “dry” when I use it as a drying rack for the stuff i hand wash. Is there any 18” dishwasher with a heating element, that lets you select just the “dry” cycle?

    • @YaleAppliance1
      @YaleAppliance1  2 года назад +2

      Dishwashers have become much more efficient. Most of the heating elements are gone from dishwashers and the ones who still have them operate at about 1/2 the power as the old units did. If the GE you are considering is a condensation dry then it will not perform anywhere close to what you are used to. In fairness, the Bosch won't either but it will be quieter, maybe a bit more versatile in the racking (important when shopping for an 18" dishwasher) and dry slightly better than the GE.

      @@YaleAppliance1 Why did they do this, "Most of the heating elements are gone from dishwashers and the ones who still have them operate at about 1/2 the power as the old units did." That's a deal-breaker for most people because they don't want to pay $1000 to hand-dry their own dishes.

    Hey Steve. We got a black stainless KDPM354GBS in early 2020 and have been really happy with it. Cleans well, fairly quiet, and no filter cleaning (unless a stray carrot or something gets caught in the removable basket; we just scrape dishes before loading). The exterior style actually blends well with our existing cabinets, plus we like the hidden controls and flat front with no protruding grab bar. Based on all of that which comparable model would you recommend from their current line of dishwashers?

    Your videos are very well put together and helpful. I am wondering about the KitchenAid 404, in terms washing and drying? For the most part, do they clean dirty dishes the with the same effectiveness? The washing systems seem to be set up the same way. If I am not mistaken, the big difference is in the drying. In terms of drying, does the 404 also have a fan or just heated drying? There does not seem to be many videos detailing how well the 404 dries dishes. I see on the door, it has a slot, not sure what it does. The 604 is 300 dollars more in my market. But really what's important is understanding added features that work vs those that add increase cost but not usefulness... Also, while there are some reviews about the 404, but more on the 604.. is there a reason for this? Thank you for the feedback.

      @@ChesaM99 we did get the 404 and have used it a few days. I’m not an expert, and I can only speak to is the 404 or our old miele g891. The wash and quietness are fantastic . The drying is better than our old dishwasher. I just use the prowash option and everything has come out clean. So far I have only run it at night and by morning the stone /China dishes are dry. For the most part the plastic dishes are dry as well. But again the dishes have sat a few extra hours after completing the wash..I have not run the extended heated dry cycle. So that being said, we are happy with our decision so far. It would be interesting to know how the 604 dries the dishes. But the 604 was not available and if it was the cost was 300 dollars more. (There was a 220 discount at the time we bought the dishwasher). I’m not sure how much better the 604 would dry the dishes… but perhaps it dries the dishes at a faster rate.. I am happy with 404 and the savings.

If a Miele lasts me 15 years and costs $150 per year in repairs is that more cost effective than a GE POS that cost $300 with $150 in repairs every year for 8 years?
