I agree that the RRHF is a joke and is the opposite of what rock n roll is about for most people. But I think hip-hop, country and some other genres CAN be rock - in the sense that it carries the attitude of rock. Rock (I think) can refer to the sound of course, but rock can also refer to the feeling or impression it makes on the audience or general public. That's why I honestly believe rock n roll will never die. The sound most certainly will fade away but the tradition of pushing boundaries with loud abrasive angst and angered filled music will continue to piss off the older generations. In the long run it be a positive influence on the youth by giving them a way of venting. Just my 2 cents, hell my opinion isn't even worth that much! But young people need to feel like they are making something new even though it's all a big circle. Things rise and fall, then a few generations later they return. No point in fighting it. Even in the height of classical music you had composers who was rock stars of their day. I'm all for any music that makes people happy.

@@XHuntinatorX I agree with you, that is what is wrong with the RRHOF, its a joke, its more of a popularity contest, Bob Marley isn't the only reggae artist yet he made it in, there are many greater artists that influenced him.
Cheap Trick is a class act. They did a USO tour back in the 80's. They sat down and visited for hours at the rec center. They played their hearts out for us. I was front row standing in a aircraft hanger getting pelted with Ricks guitar picks.

Face it - the R&R HOF is a complete irrelevance. A total wank. Juuuuust maybe it was an interesting idea years ago - but the suits strangled it in its crib...
+Tablature Butler Suits and people with NO knowledge, culture or musical understanding. But they do have a big attitude, arrogance and think very highly of themselves. Mediocre @ssholes they are. Can you believe it took them until 2016 to induct Deep Purple?? Are you f@cking kiddin' me? DP is rock n' roll!! Too many swear words? Maybe , because he should have just hollered one big F@CK YOU to this so called institution and showed them the finger with both hands. Or even better: not attended at all, like Ritchie Blackmore.
+Joe Michaels - I honestly can't understand why people say things like you just did - of all the thousands and thousands of aspiring and low-tier musicians - open mike - school dance - crappy bars - small-venue circuits - only a tiny few ever make it to full-on headliner status, with a string of hits, an actual body of work - and decades of popularity. He may not be cutting edge now, but he once was at the vanguard of a musical movement - when Boz Scaggs was in the original Steve Miller Band, they brought polish and real chops to the San Francisco Sound. They played the Avalon, Fillmore and Winterland. Then Miller was a founding practitioner of arena rock - love it or hate it - it was what happened when the new music of the 60's went commercial - and it drew HUGE numbers. His voice and style were instantly recognizable and his production was impeccable. So - Miller is relevant, regardless of your opinion. He is in the same way as other titans of days gone by. That doesn't mean you have to like him now or ever (I never was his biggest fan) - just don't play the douche. All things considered in the field of popular music and the recording arts - he's a winner...
+Joe Michaels Hate to say it but I agree. RnR HOF has always been a fucking joke. Madonna long before Rush? Yeah right. Saw Steve Millar last year at a festival. He played his set trying to sound exactly like the album and failed. Voice gone, no spirit in his performance at all. It's been over for decades Steve. Take the money and run...
+Tablature Butler I have a bartender friend who had Steve Miller in his bar once years back. He introduced himself and asked if he still had to pay for his beer. Yes. $6. Beat it.
The RARHOF was a great idea, a noble one. I stumped for it to be here in CLE. Got my founders badge, chatted with the staff on opening day, and I told them that the floor with the inductees on grey LCD screen kiosks in a sea of black plastic carpet looked more like a mausoleum than a tribute to brilliant, vibrant music that for me, is and always will be very much alive. They noted this and thanked me for my input. Visited a couple more times, taking some UK friends who popped over to visit on the CLE tour. Now it's pretty much a wank. If Rolling Stone magazine were a building, it would be the Hall of Fame. It's the Hard Rock Cafe with no burgers. Are you there? Say a prayer, for the pretender. Who started out so young and strong, only to surrender.
Steve told it the way it should be told, exactly what rock n roll is about...rebellion and the RRHOF is not exempt from that. The artists make the RRHOF what it is, the RRHOF does not make the artist who they are. It cannot exist without the publics support of an artists work.
It's not what you say. It's what you do. All this crap does is give the RRHOF more publicity. It would have been far more impressive if he hadn't shown up and told them to f'off in the first place. Instead he shows up and plays, does everything they want, then whines about it pretending to be some kind of big shot. These punk artists are just playing the game like everyone else. Just words... no action.
I've been to the rock and roll hall of fame numerous times and they lost my respect the very first time when I noticed that they induct non rock and roll artists before real rock and roll artists. The rock and roll hall of fame has made themselves irrelevant.
"Deep Purple doesn't belong in a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. One good riff doesn't make a band great." When you get older you'll find out about _In Rock_ and Gillan inventing heavy metal singing and all.
You mean the style that Greg Lake, Paul MCartney, and Robert Plant were all using when Gillan was just another struggling pop singer? I've been playing hard rock and metal since the mid 90's. Maybe when you get older you will stop holding forth on subjects for which you have no understanding.
Steve Miller, I always loved your music, now I love you even more! You have confirmed what I've been saying for many years! That organization is a sham run by clearly a bunch of ingrate douchebags! The real artists and the immortal music is what counts!!!
The thing with Cetera might not have been just with the RRHOF people. He wasn't too keen on reuniting. Sad too because Chicago was truly original and huge musically. For me at least.

@@abc-yv2js I hadn't heard that part. Age takes its toll. Even Freddie Mercury had to alter his singing in later years. Steve Perry the same even when he was still in Journey
@@minermike61 Chicago is still one of my favorite bands and loaded with talent no matter who sits in the line up. Five decades of #1 hits is hard to top. Cetera wanted to stay pop and commercial and Kath, whom I love, wanted to be blues and play hard music. Read drummer Danny Seraphines book " STREET PLAYER". You wont be able to put it down. After Peter left, Jason Scheff took over ( bass and high lead voice) and while not as perfect of a singer, still 20 + more years of #1 hits with him singing. He is awesome. So was DeWayne Bailey on lead guitar. The last 30 years of hits has been mostly love ballads, like Peter wrote. Great band that gambled their last dollar to roll the dice and rebel against the la tee da norm and win. Freddie and Steve are examples of "the best" who aged as we all do. Good examples

They wanted to support me. Steve sometimes came in wanting me to put great jazz albums in his hands because he wanted to listen jazz. Truly down to earth lovely people. Cool as I've ever met, alright.
Steve Miller stood up on his ground like a real man!!! He is absolutely right!!!
When the started letting non rock acts in, they lost all credibility
Michael Rauch They lost all credibility when they inducted Madonna before Rush
Absolutely. It is a total crock now.
They never had credibility. Some people started handing out garbage and it means something?

All we need to know about the authenticity of the RRHOF is that Janet Jackson is in it and Jethro Tull is not. Pointless and meaningless exercise.
@homer randall

its only a pop culture thing. stevie wonder is rnb, joni mitchell is a singer songwriter, the sex pistols are punk, miles davis jazz, hall and oates pop, jethro tull is great but never became as popular as led zepplin, sex pistols johnny cash or the beastie boys like it or not.

Cheap Trick is a class act. They did a USO tour back in the 80's. They sat down and visited for hours at the rec center. They played their hearts out for us. I was front row standing in a aircraft hanger getting pelted with Ricks guitar picks.
Was that on the hawk
It wasn't very classy of them to attempt to keep Bun E. from performing at the ceremony. He deserved that opportunity every bit as much as the other 3.
The last time I ran into Rick, here in Rockford, Illinois, I went up to him and he gave me a whole Handful of Picks! He also took a couple minutes to visit with me; a fabulous, lifetime memory for me! 8-)

Hehe. Good for him: Sit down, and learn something! That's priceless....

Just words... no action.
