  • Coming straight from my laboratory deep in the Atos HQ, I give you KRAB GUARD. a tasty little morsel of what I know will become quite a extensive guard system. Ideal for people who don't like open guard, think of KRAB GUARD as secondary half guard, just backwards and better. And with less shoulder pressure in your face. The more the push, the tighter it becomes , like a chinese finger trap, once the krab guard gets a hold of you there is no letting go. I started working on this a few days ago but I was so excited about it I had to share it with you all.

    I used this last night in randori. I used the z guard entry. My opponent is a higher belt and has at least 60 pounds on me. All that being said, the krab guard worked like a charm. I was able to frame him and sweep with minimal effort whenever I got to the krab guard. I think my sparring partner thought I was still in z or half, so his pass attempts didn't work due to the confusion. Thanks for showing this awesome guard off! I'm going to love exploring this position.

    • @fightfiles
      @fightfiles 4 года назад

      nicholas malone This is how I discovered the position- unsuccessfully attempting the lockdown and improvising with a knee between from getting smashed. I should have known better than to think that I invented something. I like to call it “switch half” and hearing that people/Keenan calls it “krab guard” which can be confusing, I think I will still continue to call it “switch half” because I used to skateboard and I think it explains the position better while making it easier to commit to memory for n00bs.

    I'm a white belt, so please excuse me if this is an obvious no. Could the top player windshield wipe so his lower shin is over your ankles and sit his hips back for a foot lock?Similar to crossing your feet while you have the back. Or would this make it easier to get a sweep?

    Krab Guard was good for it's time, but the elite grapplers have deconstructed this position and tit's no longer so effective in high-level competition.
    These days there are so many better options in competition like Reverse Claptrap Guard, the newer PMS Guard and the option to just phase-shift away from your opponent.

      Thats what it looks like to me too. Interesting. I dont know why I never try to experiment with these things on my own in bjj. Sometimes you get used to the traditional positions you learn and kind of forget exploring a bit. thats what makes keenan so interesting though. I think the fact that he can play the traditional positions with no worries of being smashed helps his creative process. Sometimes im just in straight survival mode that if i ever tried something unusual im just so scared that id get stomped. Keenan need not worry about getting stomped.lol

    Hey brother I was just looking you know on that movement right there where you take the arm over there's movement in wrestling called them it's a snapback and a lot of times they'll do that to pull you back if you control that handles around your neck and you could take that fulcrum right there you can put them into a kind of a weird ok arm Umaplata! I teach that a lot when doing sit out and such guys will be that snap back and if you do jujitsu you just grab that either wrist lock and break his shoulder :)

    • @Vscustomprinting
      @Vscustomprinting 7 лет назад

      Ty Hatfield what?!

    • @TyHatfield
      @TyHatfield 7 лет назад

      In wrestling and judo they snap back from there when you duck your head under. What I learned to do is keep the hand that is around your head. Use that to put him in a shoulder lock with your head, and he is in a kind of Umaplada when you on the bottom sit back.

      a lot of BJJ schools do this for black belt instructors. it's just because in Portuguese "professor" just means "teacher", same as "sensei" from Japanese.

    • @cakesbro1415

      @OfficialPizza 7 лет назад +1

      ***** it is true. yeah bjj has less involvement with tradition and honor but a black belt is still teaching you and folks still show them respect. not all black belts go by professor, but many brazilians do. this is coming from personal experience.

    • @cakesbro1415
      @cakesbro1415 7 лет назад

      ***** i've never experienced it so seeing it in this video i was like "that's weird" lol, but that makes sense from your explanation, even though we don't call my bb instructor that, just his first name

    • @Seegie16
      @Seegie16 7 лет назад

      When i first started training bjj in the mid 90's the black belt brazilian teacher. We would just call him by his first name and there where no stripes, no bowing. No formalities whatsoever. the only formal thing we did was run the gunlet when he gave a new belt out which there was not even a test for. Fast forward 2016. I now got back into by after taking over 15 years offf. Now white non brazilian 1 degree blackbelts are expected to be called professor, everyone bows and says ossssss, there are stripe promotions and rules of conduct etc...Its turning into a TMA. Also the art is different. Yes the level of bjj is super high now and the blue belts of today feel like high purples of back then but they are doing things we never did like wraping lapels and belts around your head and berimboling. Im still not sure if my comeback to the art something I want to continue as it is so different from what I loved about it back then. Not only the formalities but how every technique is taught with points in mind and how some of the techs are super awesome for sport but your ass and balls are right there in someones face to get hammerfisted. I dunno. Frustrations. maybe I just suck and am old now. But its different.
