Same goes for most any type of education. When I was in college I used to get a couple weeks ahead of the rest of the class so when the class was in session, I could ask very specific questions right in front of the instructor so the entire class would get information. Beats the hell out of waiting a week or two and realizing you are stuck and don't know what to do!
Its weird I tried 2 different weird techniques that Keenan has taught on this channel and they both went right into my game. This is one of them. Guess im gonna have to browse this channel and subscribe to Keenan Online now. I hope he puts out more content.
@9:18 …with that back exposure and the pancaker’s arm extended, can someone explain how blue cannot just step his right leg under his armpit and his left leg on top of white’s shoulder and either triangle from behind or mounted triangle if white rotates into him?
It's a small thing but it's nice to see Keenan using a white belt to do demonstrations. I've found that bjj has a lot of stigma around rank where, ironically the lower belts get the least attention.
Cody Mack In all of my comments on all of my media profiles over the last year and a half you’re the first person to mention it! Where do you train at bro? I’m an AL USA under Professor Jason Darty
Hi Keenan (or Community) simple question: arent you extremly vulnerable to armbars in moments like 3:28 or 5:08? will definitely try this out. Thanks for sharing
Yes definitely.... If you don't keep scrambling. You can't secure an arm bar if you can't hold them in place long enough to set up. Unless they are a wizard.
Same-side cuff grip has different pros and cons. In this particular defensive/escape context (someone is passing you, side smash position), it's generally a losing grip because: a) You won't be able to extend your arm far enough to force your opponent to overextend b) If you try to extend your arm all the way out and roll to your knees to escape, it leads to you turtling with your opponent on top of you. This isn't necessarily bad, but being in turtle with your arm sticking out is pretty risky. c) It's easy for the attacker to break your grip, (using their legs is a common method) d) If the attacker really likes scarfhold/kesa gatame positions, you're helping them set it up. It CAN be a winning grip in this context if you can yoink them off balance and force them to post on the hand you've got gripped, and force a sweep.
Everything Kennan posts makes it seem like this shit is easy, wrong. The cross grip is a valuable grip but obviously there is so much more going on. And by the way, when your Uke is completely unaware of how a back take or a pass works, then of course your bullshit moves work.
@@fritzdagger I'm curious why the word "guard" is used when a person is basically passed already and almost back mounted. It doesn't look like a guard or protective position?
Morgan Didn't do it. Simply it stops them connecting their hands together so it’s difficult for them to establish an upper body control with 2 hands. #whitebeltlogic
Keenan is the Eddie Bravo of the gi.
Pancake is flat like the earth
You gotta look into it.
😂
No. Keenan is actually good and comes up with techniques that work
@@xkidmidnightx royler, is that you?
Keenan seems like an awesome instructor
LMAO “let us kneel”
Disappointed they didn’t have pancake faces throughout the whole video like the thumbnail.
This video is a good example of why live instruction is best! The instructor can correct and assist if there are any problems.

Great content, I love the part where we can see people actually practising it, please do more videos like this
"Let us kneel" made me a much bigger Keenan fan.
Feel like I learn just as much watching Keenan interact with his students as I do from his lessons.
Nice. Looks similar to Priit's hawking hand fighting. Makes me happy to see this level of detail and non traditional techniques.

This is great stuff. Im going to blend this into the Telles and Pritt turtle guards once I get back on the mat.

Just be faster (as white) and you’re fine?

@Chris Wong
Yeah, you can tell by the way he moves lol.
my sefu despises that. he makes sure to spend 1 on 1 time with white belts in every session. He even rolls with us. No rank stigma in our home 😁
Its always best to teach as if students know nothing, but don't treat them like idiots. They are willing to learn this game of chess.

Cody Mack Sweet man! I’ve heard of them, I hope we meet on the mats one day.
Keenan, I fucking love you.
7:18 I don't get it... How does a blue belt not know what a side smash is?🤦🏻♂️
There will be holes in your knowledge all the way to black belt and beyond, not a big deal
Wierd energy in this video. I love it.
from now on, before every new keenan video we should all kneel.
Sick can’t wait to try it thanks for Sharing.

Very nice observation!
Will there be more on this on the lapel encyclopedia?
Prone position is face-down. That is supine or just "flat on your back" lol. But great tip and video!
Dude I've never been to San Diego but judging from Keenan's videos I'm pretty sure it's 70% asian
Thanks for Knowleges sharing.
Can ya post Link and /or brand & model of that great audio clip microphone 🎤 u use in your vids Keenan?
But very nice teaching, how you help the studnts is very cool!
The oversized white belt. Classic.
Fuck yea. I hate effort! Trying; my worst enemy.
Hey I’m in this video !
Reminds me of telles the turtle 🐢 master
So Daniel Larusso lost that tournament to Cobra Kai and decided to learn some BJJ... Smart
Can this work with NoGi?
Only if you have grip strength of the gods
Very nice. What about sane side cuff grip? This can also be a good guard retention grip, no?
Same-side cuff grip has different pros and cons. In this particular defensive/escape context (someone is passing you, side smash position), it's generally a losing grip because:
a) You won't be able to extend your arm far enough to force your opponent to overextend

It CAN be a winning grip in this context if you can yoink them off balance and force them to post on the hand you've got gripped, and force a sweep.
Look at Tommy Langaker's guard retention. He and Espen play collar and sleeve and hve amazing guard retention with the same side sleeve
I think pistol grip would make this so much better.
Everything Kennan posts makes it seem like this shit is easy, wrong. The cross grip is a valuable grip but obviously there is so much more going on. And by the way, when your Uke is completely unaware of how a back take or a pass works, then of course your bullshit moves work.

Nice
Thumbnail is legit
slather me up..
as a primate, im all about some cross sleeve grips.. take it from me- i have an opposable thumb!
The young ones don’t understand the high level ideas being presented here. It will fly over their heads.
Pancake guard - lay flat on back and play dead.
"minimal effort" unlike the thumbnail
"Pen cake"
Where’s the syrup.

I thought I saw Daniel LaRusso for a sec
But why is it called pancake 🥞 ? 😂

@@adonitel5152 because you have the cross sleeve grip the person on top hasn't successfully passed guard yet giving space to escape

No. Telles and Pritt have a similar move too. You run the risk of being flipped over.
Anyone else get really distracted when one of the guys in the video has the same Gi as you?
This sorts seems like bull. I will play with it but it seems super high risk. Every else from Keenan videos works very well in certain situations

Minimal effort, like this white belt's belt tie attempt.
