PotatoZZ PotatoZZ if you look closely at the video he has both a water bowl and a bottle x I’ve also mentioned that the next again day after uploading this, I went out to get children’s play sand as I wasn’t happy with the one used in this video. For some reason this was recommended to my by a few reputable hamster care accounts on Instagram so I thought I’d try it. Definitely not great and wouldn’t recommend it at all. If you follow my Instagram, I talk frequently about scatter feeding and my attempts to introduce it but sadly he became very ill and wasn’t eating when I did try this. I am very slowly using both scatter feeding and his bowl as a way to keep him healthy and amused. He’s doing well with it at the moment. I’m putting more and more around the cage and less and less in his bowl so hopefully he will be ok with scatter feeding by the time I do his updated cage tour video. His such a fussy boy x
Hi! I love Bandits cage! I also want to make a similar cage for my hammy with ikea linmons, but I just don't know where to get a glass for the front side. Can I ask where did you get the glass? Is it perhaps from ikea, and if it is, what size is it? Thank you!
@@cido2270 I believe it's the IKEA hemnes glass but I can't remember the size. If you watch vanilla ham hams IKEA linmon cage video she goes into detail about everything
I would recommend adding some more toys in the centre of the cage such as grapevine wood and cork logs to fill it up and prevent boredom, I would also buy a bigger wheel. The wheel is too small and is arching the hamster’s back which is very uncomfortable and can cause severe back issues. Although, I love the aesthetic of your cage and the amount of bedding that you have provided. :)
Lily Thewalnut I’ll definitely do that. He was so small when I got the wheel but over the past few weeks he’s grown quite a bit so I’ll definitely be getting a larger one ASAP! I was thinking about adding logs and things for that nature, possibly moss as I’ve seen a few enclosures that have some in it x
I would add more toys and enrichment, I love the amount of space, bedding and the theme but I could see a hamster getting bored with not much to explore
I love DIY enclosures! Those mountains and little blocks are adorable! I read that it wasn't finished so I would love to see how it looks now ❤ Great job! I'm sure Bandit is loving his home!
This is such a cute cage and the shelf is everything!!!! Bandit is also adorable. If the sand is dusty I recommend taking it out until you can find a better one. Bandit might feel safer and be busier if there are more objects in the middle area. Take a look at grapevine branches, half tunnels and cool hideouts. I have a bendy bridge that works as a hide and a bridge- I don’t know why my ham likes it so much. But you have said you are waiting on more items and I can’t wait to see it!!!!
We took out the sand the next again day and replaced it with children’s sand. Someone recommended that as a safer alternative. Is there any other sand that you’d say is suitable? I keep hearing conflicting things about sand at the moment. OHHH! I haven’t heard of grapevine branches! I will definitely look into that thank you! 💜
@@hayleyvnn4320 that is great to hear! I did the same and used a bad sand (changed now to obviously). Children’s play sand is absolutely fine! Some others that may be more costly but less work would be (NO calcium) reptile sand?
I would recommend putting more bedding in one section of the cage, this allows the hamster to make more borrows and tunnels especially if you own a type of Syrian hamster, as they need at least 10 inches of bedding in one spot of the cage. I love the cage idea, and how everything is nicely organized and put together. More toys would be good since hamsters teeth never stop growing, and put different varieties of toys that your hamster can choose from since they aren’t like cats and dogs playing with toys, and different choices would be helpful for your ham. Also just a recommendation if you want to upgrade your hamsters cage, a naturalistic enclosure is super good for your hamster since it allows your Hamster to do it’s natural instincts. Putting a few millet around its cage can provide brain stimulation since the hamster would be able to pick the seeds of himself like they would do in the wild. Accessories like bendable wooden bridges make a good Necessity to the enclosure. You can even grab a few rocks from outside and put them in different spots of your hamsters cage, but remember to wash them very good with warm water and mild soap. One last recommendation is to put more hideouts in your hamsters cage, as a hamster is a prey animal and doesn’t like to be out in the open, as they feel scared. Things like great vine wood and wooden bendable bridges like I said is a great thing to add to your hamsters cage in open spaces. As they will feel much secured and happy! 😊
please do a video on where you bought on the stuff and how much it cost. i’m getting a syrian hamster and o got inspiration by you to make my cage like that. if you would see this and make a video about it that would be wonderful! 🤍🐹
I’d recommend some stands under the wheel and sand bath because I’ve had hamsters in the past burrowing and there wheel or sand bath would fall on them and I’d had one die form it so yea! ❤
I love the idea of the wood tunnel thing as a support beam also I wouldnt use the sand if its too dusty and more boardem breakers/ toys, and scatter feed
Jessica Lieblich thank you! I had tried that before but he was losing weight so I went back to the bowl. I’m currently trying both the bowl and scatter feeding. Not sure if it’s working... I’ll find out when I clean his enclosure. Hopefully he’s not stop liking his food because I heard they tend to do that when they know they are getting an abundance of food x💜
I would add more hiding places; a house maybe, maybe some platforms...toys or climbing trees. I dont know, but defenetly some more stuff for your cute hamster to explore. Edit: you should get a way bigger wheel too. This can cause some serious back problems
Hi...it is wonderful that you did so your best. I read that you have bought other sand..thats good👍when he is full grown he will need a 11inch wheel at least. Heavy things like wheels, sandbaths, stones, graniteplates always must be supported or put on platforms or stilts because if your hamster is burrowing underneat he can get stuck under it and die. It would be nice if he could experience more different kind of textures and more natural smells. Like safe plants..hay...herbs..dryed flowers. Sprays..so he can harvest seeds. Smells are very importend and entertaining for hamsters. He indeed need more things in the cage to feel safe. Hamsters are prey animals. Their instinct tells them to not walk in open space. A chewsnack made of toiletpapertubes for example is also nice as boredombreaker. About the food....i dont know if there are other brands availeble in your country, if there are i would definitly try an other brand. Hamsters are eating mostly seeds in the wild..some insect etc..pieces of plants and roots. This food is really not good for hamsters. Its also very entertaining for them to sprinckle the food around in the cage instead of giving it in a bowl. You can use the bowl for his veggies. Don't worry, you dont have to be afraid that he cant find his food. Hamsters have an excellent nose, he will find it. In the wild they have to find food as well, so this stimulate natural behaviour and keeps him nice busy. Bendy bridges has gaps, fill them up please with moss or other material. He can get stuck in the gaps with his paws. That happened with my hamster. Thankfully i was right on time to safe his paw. Most hamsters are chewing their paw off to free themselfes...❤❤❤
Hello! I love how much bedding and space you have provided for your hamster, but i would want to recommend 1 thing! You could make a boredom breaker, simply by getting willow chew toys (i would use the nibblers living work ones) and put in his favourite seed or mealworms! For example you could put a couple of sunflower seeds or mealworms so he can try to take the treat out and make him chew! But i love the cage so far! x
Your cage is great! I seen you were waiting to recieve more items but for now i think more toys in the cage would be more funner to the hwmster and also a bigger container for his sand bath but your doing great
