On my mission I encountered a group of Christians who were looking for a restored church and earnestly looking forward to the second coming. I told them we were it and explained it all to them. They still wanted to argue with me, because the phobia is real. I’ll never forget how shocked they looked when they realized that “Mormons” actually claimed to be exactly what the Bible says the church should be. They looked shocked, pale, and genuinely frightened that they’d have to accept something they’d been indoctrinated to hate. I feel for them. It must be really hard.

    • @davidmalvinalexander
      @davidmalvinalexander  2 месяца назад +18

It's not just that they "have to accept" the truth ....but they KNOW...that to even move a tiny bit in that direction...would cost them more than they are willing to pay...they would lose all their friends...their social network, their religious network, and even much of their economic network...to even move towards the Restoration. They would get "cancelled" by all that their lives are built into. And this is on TOP OF...having to be humble enough to become as a little child and humble themselves to receive the truth. It is very hard...so we have to find ways to bring real FAITH to them...without them having to make the leap to "reading the Book of Mormon"...which if anyone found out they were doing...they would be instantly ostracized...
This is why getting phone numbers or emails...and just occassionally send them links via email or texting...to powerful Conference Talks...has the potential to bring the faith to them, necessary to even dare to READ the Book of Mormon...much less let themselves be taught by our Missionaries...because they can LISTEN to such Conference Talks...in Secret!...and it seems WAY LESS THREATENING than "Reading the Book of Mormon" ....but the Conference Talks, ARE ALSO...the Word of God with the power to inspire TRUE FAITH...in the heart of any sincere soul that listens to them...but in secret...just as Nicodemus by Night...came secretly to Jesus!...and once their eyes are opened by the Word of God through the Conference Talks...everything changes!

@@davidmalvinalexandertha k you for sharing this breakdown in what happens when people try to leave e their faith. It is actually a form of emotional abuse and control. When my mother joined the Church, he own family stood outside the institute building picketing and handing out anti Mormon literature. It was twenty years before my Grandfather spoke to my Mother again. Eventually, her family softened enough to have open dialogue and both my grandparents have permission for their temple work to be completed before they died.
My uncle was severely anti-Mormon until he served a prison sentence with a Latter Day Saint. Strange story, but true. How the Latter Day Saint cellmate ended up there was excessive force when when his wife was being mugged. He was the son of a Stake President and every week his family would come and have family home evening at the prison. When my uncle was released he called my mother on the phone and told her he would never persecute her beliefs again.

Thank you so much for sharing your message!! The irony of your messages that I just barely bought a box of Book of Mormons that I wanted to hand out to my friends, lol!
I feel inspired to save the best for last on some of those gifts and focus my energies on becoming a better friend and being more aggressive about being friends with people of other faiths. I really like what you had to say about praying for them. Focusing on the central part of the Gospel which is that Christ lived and died for us and that we need to repent of our sins of the baptized is Paramount and critical to bridging the gap between our faith and theirs. I think this is a better place to start than just handing them a Book of Mormon to begin with. I love the Book of Mormon so much and have read and understood it's message, that I want to share it with the world!
I really really appreciate what you had to say about sharing conference talks and the pureness of the doctrine of Christ coming through their messages being their first introduction to the church besides our friendship. That was a really good suggestion.
My mother grew up Southern Baptist in East Los Angeles. It was her constant friendship with a latter-day Saint girl through their childhood that eventually led her to partake of the fruit of the Gospel. As a result, I was born into the Church. What a precious gift I have been given! Your message reminds me of that!! I am grateful for my mother's perspective. She taught me how to be a friend first and to love people of all faiths.

My husband served a mission in 1974-76 in the Australia, Brisbane Mission. It was a tough mission. They either had not heard of the church, did not like "Yankees" or hated the "cult-est" Mormons. He gave out many Books of Mormon, they would go by again on trash day and find the books on top of the trash bin. He and his companion gathered them up and gave them out to someone else. We all know that these people who rejected the Book and the Misssionaries and the Message will one day realize that they rejected something very precious.

Yea, even the very God of Israel do men trample under their feet; I say, trample under their feet but I would speak in other words-they set him at naught, and hearken not to the voice of his counsels.

A survey was taken several years ago among the new converts in England. It was concluded that it took an average of 7 positive contacts from members and I would include missionaries of the church before these folks listened to the message of the restoration. Think of that when you visit folks. Leave them with the most up beat and positive impression of the church you can muster because this might be their fourth or fifth contact. Only two more to go. Ha Oh course there are exceptions to this idea. One of our families we baptized fit this pattern though.

You are correct @canadian… there are more scriptures to be had, not only from the Book of Mormon (as noted by there being a “sealed portion” along with the records Mormon abridged his work from, but also, as the Lord mentions in 2 Nephi 19:11
“For I command all men, both in the east and in the west, and in the north, and in the south, and in the islands of the sea, that they shall write the words which I speak unto them; for out of the books which shall be written I will judge the world, every man according to their works, according to that which is written.”
God has commanded godly men in every culture to write his words. But the challenge for us comes in using what he has given us. What good would more do, if we aren’t fully using what he has already given?
I look forward to the day when God’s people will use what he has given him so well that he gives us more, or, as Christ told Joseph Smith “For unto him that receiveth it shall be given more abundantly, even power.”

And David, on the marriage topic it’s okay to move quickly if the spirit confirms she’s the one. If you’re both on the same covenant path and willing to give it everything, it will work.
From my first date with my wife to proposal was only 2 months. And 3 months later we were married. If you had told me 6 months earlier that I would find and marry my eternal companion within the next 6 months, I would not have believed it. I was nearly 30 at that time and setting my ways. Cosmism - you can't even imagine it has anything to do with true religion. One day you will wake up to the importance of the temporal side of the gospel and understand the saving ordinances on a whole new level. Time is ticking. It looks like it will be another 47 years. Hugh Nibley said Cosmism was the whole show in ancient religion and our modern paradigm (way of thinking) is tainted by the accusers through the great apostasy. Joseph Smith knew but he said it is like splitting a hemlock knot with a pumpkin for a beetle and a corn dodger for a wedge. I wonder if anyone will google that and realize what Joseph was talking about. Is anyone out there prepared to open this book?

They are understood by the humble, yet they can excite the intellect of the brightest minds.” - Russel M. Nelson - April 2001 Conference

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is very different, it was delivered from heaven through angels, miracles and revelations and God Himself…just as it happens in the Bible.

Obey Gods Commandments and Forgive everyone else. Stories and mens commentary from Bible and Book of Mormon were no help to me 😊❤

David, I remember watching those first few podcasts that you put out being in your van. I remember crying because I was so happy for you. Then life happened and I got busy and I didn't keep track of you.
Just recently, I was called by the Stake to be at Temple Family History Consultant. I started working at the family history center here in Richfield Utah. One of the ladies , I call her my go to gold because she's so knowledgeable. We were talking about this new program we learned and I just started crying, which is common for me lol. and she says I got this BYU talk I think you might be interested in watching. She started to tell me that it's about this guy that's a convert and he started reading from his van. And I jumped up, and I looked at her ! I said I know this guy ! Is he the guy that was driving around in his van, and he was doing podcasts about how fabulous the book of Mormon was and about how we have the priesthood, and we have the authority in the keys.!!!!l She turned to me and she says yeah.
I said oh my gosh, I remember watching his podcasts and I never got back to watching them. And she says I'm gonna send it to you. I said please do because I would really like to know where he's at now years later. David, I am so proud of you. I know you don't know me and I am the person in the background that just want tell you kudos for following the Holy Ghost !!!
I love you and I think you are a fantastic man. And I am so blessed to hear your talk at BYU.. If you are still single ❤️ So am I❣️
    Thank you for sharing❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️

      In Christ, David

Calling it a phobia misclassifies the issue. There is no fear of Mormonism. When (small o) orthodox Christians discuss their beliefs, they begin with the same Jesus. When Mormons or Jehovah Witnesses join the conversation, the person they worship sometimes has the same name. What they know of Him is not compatible.

They have to be humble and teachable as a little child, or they will never read The Book Of Mormon or listen to Conference talks. Will you have the Rod Meldrum interview on this channel, or at least a short to direct people to it on his channel?

I think many evangelicals...hundreds of millions of them....who are NOT in a place where they would or could read the Book of Mormon with real intent....would and could....listen to Conference Talks if they were sent to them...and for many of them...listening to the Talks could and would open their eyes to the Glory of the Restoration....and to the Book of Mormon. That was true of me. The Talks ....are what opened my heart to know the Book of Mormon HAD to be true...and then I could read it with FAITH....and an open heart.
