What a beautiful flugelhorn! We've had a lot of requests for a demo video of the Schnaffhorn since becoming a dealer for Klangwerkstatt Martin Böhme. Since we have one passing through the shop I decided to make a quick lo-fi video so you can check it out.
The Schnaffhorn has a nice compact wrap thanks to the beautiful bend in the bell. It's lightweight, well balanced, and feels great in the hands. It has a light, intimate, traditional flugelhorn sound. Intonation is excellent, especially around the top of the staff in the "bread and butter" register. It has a traditional 6-inch bell (too large of a diameter will start to affect intonation). It's built with a MAW valve block, giving it smoothness and cleanliness in chromatic passages and opening up the horn in the upper register.
Here's the link to order your Schnaffhorn through our web store:

And my answer to this question is a resounding "YES!"
Bravo to Martin for making yet another incredible instrument.

Mel Torme only THOUGHT he was the velvet fog; this flugelhorn truly IS. What a sound!
I don't even play anything but I want this horn.
That’s by far the best sounding flugelhorn I’ve ever heard
Donna Lee comes out like a waterfall in the blazing sun. Sounds great!
That sound left me literally breathless, and I mean seriously I herd it and I was so stunned that it was hard to breathe
TBH, it is one of the few reviews I've seen that justifies a top line premium price. I'm reluctant to even try this because I would want it on the spot!!! Beautiful playing and horn.
Holy cow man. Pure buttery bliss.
Awesome sound !
Very nice and looks awesome!
Thats a beautiful sounding horn
The resonance is insane. What a sound!
That's a beautiful horn. Very warm and deep sound.
Nice sounding horn!
Geez, Martin’s horns are just astonishing.
WOW you should get one !! This is to demo is to die for ........
That is sick! It sounds like you're really connecting with that horn.
Merry Christmas TA ! Many thanks for the year round gifts you give to us !
thank you so much Merry Christmas!!!
it looks so amazing
hopefully it sounds more amazing!
Thank you for your video.
One thing, when you get ready to screw in anything, put a tiny bit of pressure inward on it and turn it counter-clockwise, (for right handed threads), and keep turning it till it "clicks" and you can feel it drop in a little. That is called, "FINDING YOUR THREAD." Then keep that inward pressure and gently turn clockwise a quarter turn. If the threads are engaged properly, it will screw in easily. If the threads are buggered up, you'll need to chase them with a three corner jeweler's file, to eliminate burrs and catches or rolled threads. NEVER POWER START a threaded item.! Always hand start! It's really easy to "cross-thread" especially in soft metals, like brass and bronze and aluminum or plastic.
Mesmerizing 👍💯
Excellent…
5:51 donna lee on flugelhorn sounded incredible, very nice
Thank you!
Fantastic playing
Chinatown will live forever, especially when reprised by great artist on wonderful instruments !
Stunning! The sound just pops out. Seems absolutely effortless. The sound is so rich and warm. I play a Van Laar flugelhorn which is no slouch but that horn.....ridiculous.
yes the Van Laar flugels are great, as well as Adams (I play an F3) but man this flugel is incredible!
Great horn! As a low brass guy who's been dabbling with cornet and tenor horn, I'm so envious of your high range. It feels like I'm never going to be able to comfortably play up there.
Super!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Muito bom 👍👍👍
This is whay I'll be playing if I make it to heaven.
Your Charlier except was great. I've never tried them on a flugel.
Wow !!!
Tempting...Very Tempting
I may need to "trade in" my F2 at some point. Not that I don't like it. Martin's horns have a "cushion" that feels so good!
Whaaaa is right !
It sounds to me like a vintage Couesnon -- without the intonation issues.
I am not sure but it's like, because of the full spectrum, the room itself and the objects in it give resonances back, taking away bit of the transparency of the recording. I would like to hear it in the ideal place for it .
I was thinking too that one probably can make all kinds of interesting contemporary noise and harmonics effects , with this since it responds so delicately
Soundly lovely. It looks like the receiver is much lower compared to the valve tops, so does it feel different with your hand so high? The shape is beautiful. I’ve seen Marcinkiewicz, Romeo Adaci and various European makes with that style curved design and I think it looks really cool.
it feels perfect
❤
As the proud owner of one .... I agree with everything Trent says (altho I'm not sure it is the best ever - I haven't played THAT many)!
I would love to try the Schargel, Inderbinen and Taylor as well.
Dang!! That's awesome. What mouth piece are you using on this bad boy?
sounds almost like a french horn.
🤯
trent have you ever featured the inderbinen wood ? id love to hear your evaluation of it!
Buy me one and I'll do a video on it.
hello thank you for this presentation of this flugelhorn. please wich mouthpiece do you use ? kind regards Pascal
I used my ct1 flugel piece which is basically a copy of the mouthpiece Clark Terry gave me many years ago. Some slight modifications but in essence his piece. Email the shop at info@austincustombrass.com for more information.
Which finish is that? Brushed lacquer or brushed gold?
Do you have a favourite finish from Bohme?
I love this horn. I would love to hear that is a large bore
Why? Large bore flugelhorns are not good. Bore size is mostly overrated but in this case bore is vital to the tonal characteristics.
I thought large bore on trumpet and flugelhorns give them a dark sound. I've heard flugel horns that have such a beautiful, deep, dark sound they almost sound like a trombone . I love that deep sound like the horn you played. @@austincustom
can you do something on flugelhorns with a third valve slide and those without? Just so if you're trying to start out with the flugelhorn, you know what to expect with both kinds, intonation wise?
Hi Trent. Good job. Did you already try AR Resonance Soave flugelhorn? Which is the best for you between Soave and Schnaffhorn? Thanks. Johann
Not yet!
Oh, my gosh...
I cant see the trumpet over that overlay like when the meteorologist is talking about something but stands right in front of what they are talking about then....they change the graphic.
You need Chuck Mangione to play it now 😂
Is that the theme from 'Chinatown'?
👍
What about Inderbinen Wood ? Its far far away from the best other flugelhorns
Is this a large/medium bore?
Twice the result 🤣
Shots fired!
Can I get a fluga.-bone lik this
How many in stock
Why would you like to buy them all? 😎 Email the shop at info@austincustombrass.com with specific questions if you are actually seriously interested.

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👂👂👂🫀🫀
Sounds great . You are a terrific player. Jerry Goldsmith is a better writer . Simple is good.
Apparently those guys from Germany know how to build trumpets and flugelhorns.... I mean Bach is The Godfather aint he?
many flugelhorns sound good. Most do not play in tune. Flugelhorns, like French horns have a conical bore unlike a trumpet or coronet which have cylindrical bores. Conical bore horns are much harder to play in tune, al be it easier to blow than a trumpet. This horn sounds kind of dry to me, not warm. I have had a number of French, American, and Asian flugel horns, and I think they all sound better than this one.
