An update on our Doublers! They are on their way from Asia (finally after a LONG battle with the shipping company who wanted to charge us $18,000+ for our container)! We'll have stock within a month! The other flugels are readily available! Thanks again for your support everyone!
I love these horns. For me I upgraded from the doubler to the Manchester. It seems to give me a darker more mellow sound in my church where I play my flugelhorn way more than my trumpet. The trumpet in church seems to have too much of a tinniness to the sound.
For these comparison videos, I think it'd be great to get your thoughts on the playability of each horn. How would you describe the difference in response, intonation, ease of slotting/flexibility. Sure we can hear a lot coming from the mic, but I think there is a lot of things about each horn that doesn't come through :P I've been thinking about getting a flugelhorn so this video really helped! Thanks!
Wow! That's quite a review! If I may share some thoughts on what I've heard, I would say that all of the horns are quite good and consistent to their price. However on most of the examples I liked Manchester a little bit more. I believe, ACB Doubler has a bit thinner sound compared to other horns. Manchester seemed to be quite even throughout the whole range in terms of sound and intonation. Adams Sonic has much richer sound in the middle and lower register, than others, at least I noticed that in all of the examples, except the last improvisation. In the last example Sonic really beats the others, the whole range sounds much richer and intonation is great. And the whole feel of that horn says: "I'm good for jazz". Thank you so much for your videos, it really helps to figure out what some good instruments should sound like! I wonder, if you have a video or some tips how to choose a decent flugelhorn? Unfortunately these precious example are not available in my region. Most of the market is some cheap chinese horns or the older used ones from Europe or USA.
Thanks for this demo, Trent. I do like the sound of the Adams Sonic and the ease of the upper register, but I don't believe that I would be doing much in that register with a British Brass Band. I may be a little bias towards the Manchester Brass, since I just bought one, but my feeling is the darker sound and fullness came from the Manchester Brass. I have to agree with "Big E". He too puts the Manchester on top. I will say this, the Adams does have the better sound overall in all registers, but not unlike my Kanstul 1525 Signature. You really want to have a full flugelhorn sound, put that "Papa Bear" flugel mpc with the "FD" cup and throat, and watch out. That is a flugelhorn sound.
I due to budget just ordered a Doubler’s with a 1.25 CS FD to go with my Doubler’s LB Cornet with 1.25 CS A Short Shank MP… Still liked the Manchester except the last lick where I think the Adams is particularly more familiar to Trent and thus showed best… but in the end the Doubler’s for the price won out for me… For those with the Manchester…. Enjoy them…
@@austincustom Yeah, Trent, I actually went looking for that XO flugelhorn that you had up on your website for quite some time. Darn it - somebody snagged it and it was offered at a very fair price, too.
They all sound great to me, but honestly it must be my tin ear since listening without looking I cannot tell a lot of difference between the three. But, it does look like the Doubler is a bit harder work to play.
To me the ACB sounds stuffy and restrictive but the sound is still very good. Manchester seems fat and full… Adams is nice maybe a little tighter. All in all pretty similar sound envelope intended… I think I like the Manchester….. color me surprised!
I absolutely loved all three of these horns. However, my favorite is the Manchester. Not much difference in sound for the price difference between the Adam’s and the Manchester.
I'd say the biggest difference I heard is the Adam's has a cleaner sound compared to the doubler and the Adam's has a more open upper register than the doubler with the Manchester being smack in the center of them. I personally prefer the sound of the doubler because I like the dark fuzzy sound compared to my besson brevete flugel so I will likely get the doubler
The Adams sounds easier for you to play. Of course, everything here has to be better than the 15 yr old student model Jupiter that I'm still playing on!
Adams - more sweet, more frenchhornish Manch - like a mellow trumpet (bad or good u tell me) Doubler - fluffy, more like the couesnons. Adams had FAR better intonation on charlier 2. It's hard to define how they sound. I think the doubler and adams have a darker sound (yet different).

Yeah, that sounds like someone screwed up and added a zero.
For the money, Manchester hands down. Excellent offerings for all three. Thanks, Austin.
You're welcome Olson

Your flugelhorn demo was just awesome .
Of all 3 i think the doublers has yhe sound i like or expect from a flugelhorn.
Thanks for a great demo

I like the tone of the ADAMS.
They sound the same to me. I'd go for the doubler, in that case.
Those flügelhorns sound beautiful.
wow, for me the Manchester was hands down the best sound...
I'd be interested in hearing an Adams Sonic/ XO flugel showdown.
No XO in stock at the moment but both horns are in that same ballpark!

Do you have a Vidio that outlines the tweaks that are done to the horns?
Nope.
A magician doesn't reveal their secrets.
Adams wins me✌️
Does the doubler case come with the backpack straps
yes
@@austincustom k thanks
Any way we could ever get an Eb alto flugelhorn or trumpet in the Doubler line?
Nope
Do you have any plans to sell the ACB doubler in europe ?
We ship worldwide! Please email us at info@austincustombrass.com to discuss some options for you!
Actually I like the sound of the ACB doubler.
I second that.
What is the bore of each of the three?
