  • [Links in description] You may have seen Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah playing on his signature Adams Reverse Flugelhorn, but did you know you can order your own? It took a combination of Christian's vision and the incredible horn-building skills of Miel Adams to take this unique flugelhorn design from dream to reality.
You can check it out on our web store, along with a bunch of additional photos: www.austincustombrass.biz/ada...
When I saw the prototype at the factory, I actually didn't want to play it because design was so unusual. But eventually I played it, and I was astonished by how fun this horn is to play! Most flugelhorns make some compromises that can hinder you as a musician, especially when the result is a compacted octave between tuning C and high C. This horn has great intonation in that octave, even with a slightly deeper mouthpiece like our ACB MDF cup.
You can pick up one of our flugel mouthpieces (three cup depths available, with the ACB rim of your choice) here: www.austincustombrass.biz/aus...
The design doesn't just add to the efficiency of the horn, it's also a true work of art. Some people think this horn is just a toy or a gimmick, but it's a remarkably beautiful instrument with a vocal quality to the tone. The combination of the red brass bell stem and nickel silver flare gives it a wonderful richness while also retaining a crisp articulation.
This one has sold (has have a couple more already in the pipeline) but give us a call at (816) 410-0826 or email info@austincustombrass.com if you're interested in more info or in ordering one of these for yourself. Lead time is in the neighborhood of 20 weeks.
This is a modification of the Adams F2 flugelhorn. If you're interested in a customized flugel with a more traditional wrap, check out the "build your own" F2 listing here: www.austincustombrass.biz/cus...

Aesthetics aside (and it truly is a work of art) I actually prefer this flugel sound to any other I've listened to. Granted I'm not a flugel guy, but I really like this... It feels smooth, but has projection.

I'm always amazed by the rigidness of the instrument makers of classical intruments. Yes, history has proven lots of go to knowledge, but even innovative brands use their tech for optimizing proven designs (Yamaha). New designs in shape, form and function could attract new players and audiences. I quit playing trumpet/Flugelhorn due to strain on the shoulders tendons. With the french horn I have no physical strains. The advancements in the field of modern instruments is unparalleled. Especially guitars and drums if we're not counting the electronic achievements of the keyboards. Adams are proficient music instrument makers. Not always do they have a winner on their hands, but I applaude for them trying to be innovative.

Geeez it’s beautiful, and the sound is to die for. Ok that’s much due to your playing. I’m a saxophone player - wish your guy could do for the saxophone what he did for the flugelhorn 🖖🏽

This is a beutiful looking and sounding horn. If Adjuah's mouthpiece is bent to make it "easier" to play and hold, couldn't the lead pipe be attached to the valve block at a slightly different angle? To me, the horn looks incredibly bulky to hold, more so than a normal flugelhorn. I was hoping that there would be a comment made about the ergonomics of this horn. It does have a great sound and is a beautiful looking horn. Is this available with four valves? There is a sound quality that fluegels with four valves have that I love. Great horn.

This is a beautiful instrument but how can you play it while being able to see sheet music, conductor, or other musicians?

Wait you're supposed to read music? I knew I've been doing something wrong all these years. It's fine to see btw the sight lines are not affected by the instrument.

sounds a lot more like a trumpet than a flugelnorn. I think all the bracing damps some of the traditional warmer resonances and overtones. I agree, cute toy, but I'll stick to my Bach or other flugelhorns that sound like a flugelhorn. Not worth the price no matter what that is. Most of the guys who "like the sound" have no idea what a true flugelhorn should sound like. But get some real, experienced, high brass players who have an ear for a good flugelhorn, and this will remain a piece of art as opposed to a horn one would like to play. Why have and play a flugelhorn that sounds like a little bit darker trumpet? A waste of time and money. Yup, an art museum show piece, not a practical, playable horn.

I like the sound... and I play/record a lot of flugelhorn. My concept of flugel isn't trombone though. I like a lighter and more compact flugel sound like my hero CT (especially on his Selmer). That's the joy of making music. Make it the way you want to sound. One person's dream sound will probably be someone's else's least favorite. Keep on keepin on and have fun. This horn is by far the easiest playing flugelhorn I have tried. I prefer my Adams f3 but still this instrument is great!
      Take care,
      T
