Best 10 minute Pro lesson I've ever had. Went out today and purposely laid up to the green to practice, and it was "magic"!
Eliminated the dreaded doubles, and pitched some so close to the pin that I heard those famous words "pick it up, you are good"!
    Thanks!

Great chipping video instruction Chris! The difference between Pros and Amateur's in chipping is that the Pro will work down from lowest loft to highest in assessing the shot whereas the Amateur's immediately grab the SW or W. Love the fact that you showed the same stroke and motion can produce different results due to the club selection much like the full swing should produce.

Hi Chris, I don’t disagree with any of your instructions regarding chipping, however, I’ve been playing golf since I was 16, I’m now 64, and my chipping has been absolutely horrendous trying various methods, but in the last couple of years, I’ve followed Phil Micklesons hinge and hold, much of which does what you’ve just shown, ie body turning through, arms and club in a straight line at follow through, but for me the immediate wrist hinge on the back swing has transformed my chipping, it’s amazing to see. Thanks for your videos, always informative

Hi Chris, one approach I have used in chipping is the ratio of ball flight and roll out. My 46 degree wedge rolls 3X as far as it flies and 9 iron is 4X, for example. I then walk off my planned flight distance in steps, then count steps to the hole and adjust for uphill, downhill. This has proven pretty reliable and requires players to test it out on their own, but once you have the ratios, it really helps. Love your teachings!!!

Awesome video . Best part was the shoulder level check point by touching the front of legs . Did not realise how much I tilted causing fat chips

Really great stuff CR. I hadn't tried sliding the hands down the shaft as the club changes.. so looking forward to working on that. My most troubled problem around the green is thick rough near the green ..or worse.. wet ground (thick rough or tight lie both troubles) and would love to see a video with your thoughts on those conditions.

You hit the nail on the head there Georgia, changing the hand position further down the club hadn't necessarily occurred to me either, but then I realised that I do it as a matter of instinct.
The dreaded thick eough around / close to the green with the pin only a few yards away is a tough shot, definitely something that needs practice to play around with ideas, one of which is play it similar to a bunker shot, ie open stance, open club face, ball back from centre and swing through with conviction, I've found it pops the ball up high and lands soft, not always easy to judge the roll out, but it'll be on the green and putt able.
Im sure Chris has plenty of other ideas, but I've found this one to work moee often than not, I hope it gives you something to work on.

@@The-OC ..thanks for the ideas .. I'll give it a try..let's hope CR has some ideas about controlling this very difficult shot.

@@georgiamay4045 it is a tough one, very lye dependent, but definitely worth spend time playing around with at a practice area, good luck to you G.

Excellent Chris. Really simple. If you are chipping from a steep uphill or downhill lie do you adjust your weight and ball position along the lines of what you would do for a long shot in these situations? Also do you use a particular loft of club in these situations. We have a lot of lies by the greens which are very steep. Thanks David

Are you hitting underneath the ball? Does it matter the grass condition? We often are hitting on bare ground. Thanks.

For me it’s always the 9 iron when close enough to the fringe & just change the strength of the swing to suit distance. I tend to negative thought about hitting any wedge wrong by sending off the other side of the green whereas it’s always the putting stroke thought with 9i.

Why do you lift your left toe and turn your toe out slightly DURING the backswing of your chip?

  • @njc964
    @njc964 3 года назад +1

Tricky one. If you look at Phil Mickelson’s videos ( I’m a leftie), he will always choose a 60 degree loft and then adjust the strength of shot.

Man I suck at chipping. Duffing the 58 almost nonstop. I rather hit the putter but obviously that's no good either because the ball tends to roll past the pin.

When I have a tight lie as in the beginning of the video and I use my 54* 12* bounce SW, I usually blade the ball across the green. So it stays in the bag and I try to use the rule of 12.

Gavin, set up with more weight on the left heel if you are right handed and this will help with crisp contact and you will develop a feel and distance control. Spend more time looking and visualizing the target and less time at the ball as well. GL Bro!

Thanks Man....if i could chip, im sure I could get to single figures, but its killing me...currently play off 12, and manage to do so consistently even with the poor quality chipping
