    Thanks Cr ..great stuff .. I'm not a feel player .. so I have to have numbers for everything. Exact distances even on the shortest chips or pitches .. then I use the clock system to match 3 different distances with a gravity move to match.

    Great tips that really work you played all your shots from the mown grass any chance of some tips on playing from the colours of grass that generally catch the ball if you just run through the green

      Hey Keith, that sounds like a good video, I’ll look to do something on different lies soon 👊

  • @pstaskiewicz
    @pstaskiewicz Год назад

    In a previous video, you advised that for chip shots, the ball should be placed just right of the sternum (handle ahead of the club head). In this one, it’s the center of the sternum… which is the better bet?

  • @mikkeltaylor1
    @mikkeltaylor1 2 года назад

    Very helpful, been struggling with this part loads! What happens when the lie isn’t quite as good, thicker rough, uneven surface, etc??

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  2 года назад

      Thanks Mike, yeah tough enough when the lie is good and level. Rough changes quite a bit, will change the flight and reduce the spin on the shots, but also make the ball leave the club face slower

  • @Eqnotalent
    @Eqnotalent 2 года назад +1

    Rough or high grass around the green is where I lose the most strokes in a round. Can’t find the right speed not knowing if the grass will slow down my 60 degrees or not. Any advise ?

    • @apaulmcdonough2170
      @apaulmcdonough2170 2 года назад

      The Deeper, or Heavier the Grass then there is more of a Reduction of Ball Speed, Spin, and Height of Flight relative to the Same Club from a clean Lie (think Fairway Lie)
      Experiment with using *LESS Loft* than Your 60°.
      This will Increase Ball Speed which will help your Carry onto the Green.
      Height and Spin are often Too Overrated in Greenside Approach Shots because the typical Recreational Player ISN'T Playing onto the 12 - 14 Green Speeds they see the Tour Pros playing onto, so the Recreational Player will get less Release and Roll Out than the Tour Player will.

    Great vid. Stupid question time...why don't you pitch with your pitching wedge?!

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  2 года назад +2

      Not a silly questions at all. Plenty do pitch with that club, I just find a little extra loft helps me with the flight, but the technique would be the same with the PW

    On that "toe down" type chip, how to I explain to my mind that I *don't* turn on the back swing but I *do* coming through? 🙂 It strongly suspects that such action must lead to a "pull".

  • @paulbrown7425
    @paulbrown7425 2 года назад

    I use the putting stance but it depends on distance what swing I do either a half swing or full swing, over bunkers or ditch I tend to use a SW, flatter surfaces I would use a PW, same sort of swing technique seems to work for me, longer distance obviously change the club 9 or 8. I tend I open up the face with the SW especially over bunkers, again good video

    Now even the former tour pros who commentate on golf are calling everything a ‘chip’. McGinley being the chief culprit.

    • @apaulmcdonough2170
      @apaulmcdonough2170 2 года назад

      Yes, the all encompassing use of the word "Chip" tends to be more of a European thing based more on the "Total Distance of the Stroke" rather than the Proportions of Carry vs. Release and Roll Out.
      I've always used both Terms, because my Setups and Swing Motions are different for the two, just as Chris demonstrated.
