Then there's Russel, saying to Alyx "he fought his way out of Black Mesa with nothing BUT that crowbar.". As much as some people insist Gordon used more than his iconic crowbar, I don't think there's any mention that he ever used anything else.

The door glitch was the only reason you were able to whack the Nihilanth to death. I did a playthrough with just the crowbar and pistol on normal, and it can still hit you when you're inside its head. I had to load a save and conserve my ammo to be able to shoot it instead.

I did try this challenge a long time ago in Black Mesa after being inspired by Russell’s quote. You can make it through about 99% of the game technically, the only exceptions being the cliff face where you fight an Apache and the Questionable Ethics reception battle. The Apache can be skipped with one or two satchel charges being used to jump around the boulders that normally block you (there’s an invisible wall, but there is a place on the opposite cliff you can land as a stepping stone). The only mandatory soldiers you can’t kill in QE is the ones sitting on the skylight taking potshots at you. At minimum you can take them out with 3 crossbow bolts. Otherwise it’s technically possible to melee every other enemy to death or use environmental hazards to kill enemies to escape the Black Mesa facility. If you want to count Xen, the count basically implodes due to the nihilanth, controllers and the wart switches which are all mandatory for progression.

I was locked without any weapons in the test chamber with it killing me over and over again and when I asked my friends what was going they couldn't understand what I was talking about and how I was having trouble in the basically prologue :D

nice vid but idk about that door glitch, the rest of the playthrough seemed trivial since there was basically no challenge aside from thinking of how to whack bosses with the crowbar. the first part was quite entertaining though

perhaps you can get past the crates at 9:19, if you took the crate, or if you instead damaged the crates 1 hit until they exploded and then used the speedrunning tactic where they hit the crates while using the elevator as cover

using gun emplacements are a bit of a copout. also the soldiers dropping that car on you is a scripted sequence
