I have fueled UA 188 almost every other week. The amount of fuel these take off with is just insane. The 787 has become more than just a 767 replacement, it has totally outdone it in every way. I also love the 787's Comet - like nose. Inside they are also a big leap over the 767.

I remember as a young avgeek from Singapore, United launching non-stop flights to SFO back in the day was a huge deal for me, as i had not spotted many planes from US airlines up to that point. United and Delta did fly intra-asia services to Singapore from their Tokyo hubs, but they always operated at dark hours. I did go down to Changi to spot the first UA2 departure, thinking about the long journey those passenger had ahead.

UA has gone all in the 787. Works well for their network, especially when the extended range of the 9 and 10 are released.

      @Kevin-sl2yw 11 месяцев назад

the larger planes use the same wing (fuel capacity) and are heavier, so the range is shorter for the -9 and -10.

@@Kevin-sl2yw -9 has the most range and Boeing has teased an ER version of the -10. I don’t think UA would order that many more 787’s without there being an ER -10 in the works

@@Kevin-sl2yw No that's actually not true for 8 vs 9. The 9 actually has more range due to design changes in development.

I've done that MEL-LAX route with United and didn't know it was their fourth longest flight. It's a very long flight coming back (around 15-16hrs), but going over is quick (around 13-14hrs)

Also operate some long 757 flights! Flew them back from Edinburgh to O'hare. Not a bad flight for a single aisle craft!

Did the SFO-MEL route in December, it was about 16 hrs and topped the list of my longest flights ever. Brutal

I flew SFO-SIN last year... on SQ A350. It's way better than UA. SQ also operate twice daily on the same route.

Just did SFO-MEL this year. My first trip to Australia. Later I went to Perth and then further to Exmouth to see the total solar eclipse.

Flew the SFO-SIN route back in December 2018 (I think) on their 787s. While, I really love the 787s: being how quiet and modern they are. But, man, that 3-3-3 economy layout can really feel cramped after a while. Would much prefer the A350 if given the chance.

I fly from SFO-SIN and back once a month. I’ve gotten so used to it the duration doesn’t even faze me. Free inflight wifi helps pass the time.

Flying from Melbourne to SFO in December but it's on a 777-300 ER not a 787-9. Wonder when they're making this change

United has an impressive route system. This list doesnt even include their longest route IAH-SYD because its seasonal. I believe that one is right around 17 hours out bound, just a little bit longer than SFO-SIN.

I flew SFO-SIN in March on Singapore’s A350-900. (Had the 900ULR on return leg.) Only 17.5 hours outbound and 14.5 hours inbound. 😂
Wish I had flown United instead. The A350 is “ok” but the 787 is better IMO and the service/food on United had to have been better than the not-so-great food and lackluster service on Singapore. (Premium economy both ways.) Next week is AUS-CDG on AA 787 outbound then BA A350 inbound - business class both ways - I’ll be able to really compare the equipment.

Get Comfortable:with the scum of the skies, their 10 abreast seating on their 888's and flying the 787 NightMare Liner and crappy legroom. If you want comfort fly with an international aircraft that uses the same route.

Flying long haul in economy on United is a nightmare. Their seats are hard and narrow, even on their newest planes. Delta’s economy is slightly more comfortable. Plus United flight attendants always have a condescending attitude.

Glad I recently retired as a FA. Flew South Pac flights out of HNL base on the DC-10 and 747 back late 80's-mid 90's. Back in the day HNL-MNL was 11 hours, and that was enough for me. No way would I work that IAH-SYD flight these days, even though get a 5 day layover. Even with crew bunks, I would say no thanks. Brutal to the body.
Forced to retire due to health, one from blood clot in leg, no doubt from the years of long haul flying and on feet many hours.
My suggestion to passengers of these long hauls, invest in compression socks, and get up and move around every 3 or 4 hours. Drink lots of water before flying and at least a few times during flight. No tight shoes or clothing. Your body inflates like a balloon, and decompresses on descent, but takes a few hours. Compression socks provide blood flow through the legs and feet. Wish i knew about them back in the days flying South Pac. Lay off gassy foods before and during long flights, and NO sodas. Best to be sleepy before long hauls, as the flight will actually "fly" by when you can snooze a good 10 hours.
Wanted to finish my career just flying between HNL-mainland flights of no more than 8 hour flights. Body forced me out 10 years early.
Help the citizens of Lahaina Maui if you can. So sad to see old Lahaina burnt to the ground.
      Aloha!
