    Excellent detailed video. Wish you would have changed the felts. I need to do both on my car

      The felts were in pretty good shape but in an ideal situation should have been replaced too. The hard part is finding the tiny screws the felt has mushed over. Having the new felts with the screw holes visible helps locate the old ones.

      The new channel felts came from Fast Lane Classic Parts. Everything else was on the car when it was purchased.

    Wondered if you could tell me how to adjust the top of the window in or out to seal well against the new roof rail seal? Got a 65 Skylark Coupe.

    • @FoothillPaintandFabrication

      Hi Joe,
      If you look down low on the door inside door panel towards each end you will see a nut with a large washer attached to it. The stud coming through the nut has a slot for a screw driver. This is the adjustment to move the window channel bottom in and out causing the window to tilt in or out. Loosen the nut and screw the stud in or out as needed then tighten the nut back down. You may have to loosen other adjusting nuts a little while you make this adjustment. Let me know if you have any other questions.

      I'll check it out. Have it in the body shop and they don't have anyone that knows these things. Thanks.

    In my experience, the removal of the handle, using the removal tool can cause the C clip to be teleported into the darkest corner of the garage and sent into another dimension, never to be seen again. 🤦‍♀. When I bought my car the windows fit like broken teeth and it required many hours to get them to roll up and meet each other and the convertible top. I got it about 95%. But things still aren't correct. The outside rubber at the top of the door where it scrapes the window don't fit correctly (I think they are swapped side to side) and the glass sits too low in the lifting channel so the glass doesn't raise high enough to meet the top and seal. The lifting channel tops out and hits the door sheet metal. So I think I need to take the door glass out, remove it from the lifting channel and put some rubber or rope in the channel and set the glass back in to give it an extra 1/4". Lastly, the convertible top leading edge/welting (top of windshield) is way to big on the car so when it hits the wind on the freeway it disrupts the airflow so badly that it turns the top into a drum. Its all these tiny details that turn this from a static piece of art into a functional car. But I'm getting there

      @FoothillPaintandFabrication  Год назад +1

      Convertibles are cool unless you own one. It sounds like you have the side windows figured out. So many moving parts to get a nice seal. How are you going to fix the welting problem? I wonder if factory tops behaved like that back in the day?

    • @OpenRoader
      @OpenRoader Год назад +1

      @@FoothillPaintandFabrication I've been to an upholstery shop, they told me they can remove the welting and make and attach a smaller one, but that I would need a new front convertible top seal ($400). So including their work, it will be close to $1k to fix 🤦‍♂. I need to pull the front side window glass to fix how high they go up. I need to do what you did in this video anyway, which is put sound deadening (killmat) in the doors and also add the moisture barrier which is missing. I have yet to drive this car in the rain. Once I have these things handled, I don't think it will be an issue.

      I am pretty sure the doors are original and the vin numbers all match. Every 65 I have seen has the same wind wings as a 64. I am not up on all possible configurations or options though. I am sure someone out there knows for sure.

      All Chevelle’s had wing (vent) windows until 1969, then the Malibu and Sport Coupes went to the “Astro Ventilation “ sans vent windows. Sedans, El Caminos would be the exceptions, although someone might want to modify my statement a bit.
