I've have my Cara Cara 2 since it was first released and it is one heck of a tough knife! Spyderco's proprietary tempering process makes that 8cr13MoV hold its edge for ages.
Personally I prefer the comet shaped hole over the circular hole.

I ' ve been carrying ( and using) my Cara Cara 2 for at least 7 years every day. I work as a carpenter and maintenance. I also bought the smaller version ( Meadowlark) but it is still in its box. When cutting food it is great the absence of thumb studs that usually interfere with the tasks. I really love it. Thanks for youy review, now I want an OD green too !!!!

Picked up a cara cara 2 and although the fit and finish is not quite perfect in some respects ; ( has a few sharper edges) it is fairly comparable to a Sypderco in basic core design elements -- although not as smoothly finished off overall.
Bear in mind ~ budget - wise it about only 1/ 3 the price of say a new Delica 4 !! So great value for a knife to really use heavily and scratch up maybe on rougher edc tasks.
All in all; it a super sturdy knife with a great design heritage behind it and- in essence - that's what made Sypderco so outstanding was unique " weirder " design to their knives.
Cara cara 2 has the large opening hole; the super grippy texture to the ergonomic handles ; bright funky colours and well replicates the more pricier & slightly slicker Sypderco Classics.
I love my Delica 4 and now he has a big brother to compete with -- as another modern folding knife EDC classic !
Byrd is a for anyone wanting a cheaper , handy & good sized knife with a nice solid lock up and sharp flat grind blade.

Got the combo edge cara cara 2 in my pocket for work. Solid knife for a great price.

I've owned a couple of Byrd line knives. The Cara Cara 2 is my favorite. As for those alternatives you showed here, they don't have the same features I like (back lock, thumb hole, weight, grip style). I do a bit of backpacking and I want the length of blade for cutting through summer sausage. It's easy to keep it sharp. It's light weight for the size. Feels good in my hand, doesn't hurt my wallet when I lose one, and it does what I need it to do.

It’s a great option for a budget knife. When this video was released the Cold Steel Airlite wasn’t priced as good…you can now get that knife for $60 on Amazon. Although it’s not thumbhole opening…it is quite a bit better!

Good vid. I agree, a good option for a low cost knife to beat up. I also agree there are better choices. I used to have a Cara Cara but got rid of it. Look forward to your next review.

I have a tenacious and do enjoy it quite a bit. I haven't tried a byrd knife yet but seems like a series I need to look into. Great review 👍

I would suggest the Harrier 2 or the Raven 2 in the Byrd lineup. Thanks for watching and commenting!!

Spyderco 8cr comes in at 60 to 61 hrc , that not normal for 8cr. Just saying

I get it man…HRC is really important. It just hurts my knife collecting heart to see such an antiquated steel hahaha. Kershaw still pawns it off at $20. But whatever I have such a love/hate relationship with Spyderco

@@jakefromohiostate i hear you, I have Byrds but I don’t carry them. I like the form but choose a k390 endura wharncliff as my work knife. I feel like spyderco in general only shines in the high end.
