    Just watched all three of your videos on button locks. Good work. Given the experience you have built up on how the buttons create a detent, I’d be interested in your views on how the various styles work at the other end of the travel - the lock up. There must be various differences there as well. On a slightly different note, I think I read that the Rockstead buttons don’t provide the detent action at all. I assume they have a more traditional detent in addition to the button mechanism. Perhaps someone will lend you a Rockstead button lock knife to analyse. Keep it up.

    I've have my Cara Cara 2 since it was first released and it is one heck of a tough knife! Spyderco's proprietary tempering process makes that 8cr13MoV hold its edge for ages. Personally I prefer the comet shaped hole over the circular hole.

    I hear many reviews where they state it’s not made for heavy use. What exactly is “heavy use” for a pocket knife anyways? Will it cut the tape on all my wife’s Amazon packages? That’s all I really use one for so maybe this is overkill.

    In your opinion, is it better to go for the Civivi without the button lock? Civivi Elementum 2 button lock just looks like a future point of failure imo, looking to buy my first Civivi

    • @jakefromohiostate

      Welllll…. It’s definitely a VERY personal opinion,,, but I avoid most buttonlocks anymore. I don’t see it as a point of failure, I just get really annoyed with detent! I prefer a standard liner lock. If you are considering the Elementum I would suggest the Mini Praxis first….same exact materials and size,,,$25 cheaper🤷🏼‍♂️. Civivi is a fantastic company anything you pick is going to good

    This is funny. Offhand I'd just say that you're a malcontent except.. I keep looking at buying this one and then I keep backing off again. They make one with engraved brass handles that looks really smart and yet... Personally, I think it's the blade shape. I feel like even a little bit of a clip point style would make it stand out but, as it is, there's just something so overwhelmingly average about this knife that makes it difficult for malcontents like us to take a liking to it.

    • @jakefromohiostate
      @jakefromohiostate Год назад

      Well I can’t remember my exact feelings towards this knife, it was close to a year ago…..buuuuut I wouldn’t classify myself as a malcontent overall. I think the action and the lanyard backspacer threw me off way too much. I generally like “boring” (sleek, clean, simple) designs. Perfect example, the CJRB Pyrite…I absolutely LOVE that knife! Enough that I bought 2 of them!! I don’t know….after 20 years of collecting knives I have definitely became extremely finicky, I will gladly accept that label. Thanks a lot for the comment and moment of retrospect!!

    I've owned a couple of Byrd line knives. The Cara Cara 2 is my favorite. As for those alternatives you showed here, they don't have the same features I like (back lock, thumb hole, weight, grip style). I do a bit of backpacking and I want the length of blade for cutting through summer sausage. It's easy to keep it sharp. It's light weight for the size. Feels good in my hand, doesn't hurt my wallet when I lose one, and it does what I need it to do.
